I usually love this author's work so much! This one fell a bit flat for me. It felt like it drug on and was slightly predictable for me.

Thriller? Mystery? Yea, some of both. Sloan takes a job at Widow Falls and finds out the person she is replacing has disappeared. Then she finds out many others have disappeared too. They just walk into the woods and disappear. When she finds a picture of the girl who disappeared and then her journal she is convinced there is more to the story but as she investigates she feels she is in danger. Is she or is she being gaslighted? There is more going on here than she knows...

Reading Between the Wines book review #123/115 for 2021:
Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: Widow Falls
Author: Kiersten Modglin
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASES on December 14, 2021!!! GET YOUR COPY

Sipping thoughts: This was a premise that I have not seen done much and was surprised as I read it. Widow Falls is one of the most books that keeps you guessing even until the end. I know I changed my mind on what happened at least every other chapter. And in normal KMod fashion there was a twist right up into the last few chapters.

Quick Synopsis: Camp life. People go missing. Sloane is now there as a new camp counselor. A Pretty Little Liar meets Sometime I Lie feel. Message left for Sloane which scares the bejesus out of her. Mystery. Lies. Suspense. Danger.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @DreamscapeMedia for an advanced copy of @WidowFalls.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kiersten Modglin for this audio-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.

Sloane takes an exciting new position in a beautiful place called Widow Falls. There she meets her co-workers and they seem to be hiding something. Sloane quickly learns that people go missing at Widow Falls. The person she's replacing "ran away" from the job supposedly. Soon she finds a diary telling her not to trust anyone. Sloane can't even imagine how wrong things can go.

I am a huge fan of Kiersten Modglin. She always finds new ways to surprise me! I swear one thing is going to happen in a book and bam another happens. I can never anticipate the ending and this book was no exception. The characters were wonderfully flushed out. I felt like I was in Sloane's shoes. The ending was amazing! Honestly I want a follow-up book to this.

Oooh I was NOT expecting that ending! Loved listening to this book! I say this in all of my audiobook reviews, but there is something so relaxing about driving & listening to a good thriller!

Sloane started working at Widow Falls with a group of other employees. She found a journal that belonged to Landry, the employee she replaced. While reading Landry’s journal, she discovers she can’t trust anyone, especially Claudia. Weird things start to happen. Will Sloane make it out alive?

I give this audiobook a 10/10 & highly recommend. Very entertaining & the ending was not expected!

Widow Falls was awesome. Kiersten Modglin hasn’t disappointed me yet! Her novels just get better and better. Her talent for writing familiar, interesting dialogue just keeps me glued to the story. She skillfully pulls at me with her growing suspense and I’m all in until it ends. With few words she creates a complex thrilling outcome with fantastic mystery. I’m highly recommending this one who are fans of suspense-mystery.
Great job Kiersten! Please keep writing.
I chose to listen to this book on audio and I loved, loved Jess Nahikian as the narrator. She brought delivered an outstanding performance and hope to hear more from her.

Audiobook
Very good.
A great premise and enjoyable, but missing some key elements to make it great.

Sloane takes a job at an infamous whitewater rafting camp. She lives in close quarters with the other guides and realizes quickly that everything is not what it seems. Part of this is due to the strange traditions of the camp and the rest is from a journal she discovers that details the last days of the guide she replaced. Landry's journal tells a different, darker side of the camp. As Sloane reads more and more about danger, she feels time is running out. But what is the big secret of Widow Falls? Do people go missing and why?

I did like the premise but wish there was more atmosphere to the white water rafting and the camp and the party. More detail would have made this an amazing book - the kind that makes you forget about your everyday chores and life Still, it's a good mystery tale and recommended to those who like mysteries, and camping-type tales.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stars

Sloan Marshall has accepted a position as a Guide at the Widow Falls Whitewater Rafting Camp.
Many of the Guides have been at the camp for years; however the Guide Sloan is replacing disappeared.
Additionally there seems to be a bit of a mystery with others going missing.
Sloan finds a note, saying “Do Not Trust anyone at Widow Falls.
Coworkers laugh it off.
This reads like a Teen/YA ~ nothing wrong with a good YA story. However, these characters are in their twenties and a few are older; they are so immature that I found myself rolling my eyes at their reactions as well as the games. However things get really interesting!!!

This is only my second Kiersten Modglin novel, my first was “Just Married” which was a WOW 5 Star read for me! That had a twist that I didn’t see coming; so I was sure there was going to be twists and turns in this story.
Aww Yes! Wait for it!!!

Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audiobook. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.

Widow Falls was possibly the most "un-thriller" thriller book I have read, which is a surprise given Kiersten Mogdlin as the author. But ultimately the story revolves around Sloan working at a rafting company in the boonies in a tiny tiny town. The conditions of the camp are beyond questionable, like definatly not legal working conditions. The rafts are patched up, the vans barely operate, no air conditioning. The employees all who are out of college and one guy who is super old, act like 16-18 year olds "living it up". This really irked me how immature the characters were and how they behaved. It was a pitiful display of characters. Case in point one of the younger guys is a former male stripper, I felt like Mogdlin threw in random details like that just to be "funny" or "edgy" it did not add to the story in any way. Throughout the book there were several "who care" moments that did not mean anything: Descriptions of the swimming hole which was built up to be some important thing, but it wasn't. How many times did we have to read that Kayla braided her hair?? I know at the ending the braid is important, but like seriously.....she braids her hair, got it. I don't need to be reminded every time she shows up in the book.
Okay so Sloan is working with this immature group of Peter Pan's at this rafting company and she is treated like poo. She finds a diary of a girl who went missing, come to find out a lot of other employees have gone missing as well. Red flag girl!! Get Out, including the opening page in the diary which tells her to not trust anyone. So all this weird stuff goes on (which doesn't lead anywhere, except you really are irritated by the characters). She goes to this weird house party of Chase a Super Wealthy guy who apparently owns the rafting company. After the party Sloan who is assaulted finally puts some brain cells together (Oh and she lives off of protein bars and the 1 restaurant--that irritated me as well, I find it hard to believe there was no other food option, for the measly pay they received they could somehow afford to eat out everynight? Chase wasn't paying them enough for that....) and realize she needs to escape. So she gets in her car drives off then is so easily convinced to drive back to the camp with the cop. Dumb! The ending was such a let down and totally unbelievable, basically Chase was a sex trafficker and was "selling" the employees that had disappeared. It was dumb. She took a real and tragic reality of this world and did a poor job of telling a story that involved it. The premise was good but the execution was a fail.

Thank you NetGally for providing this Adanced Audio Copy of this book. This review is my honest thoughts and opinions.

I have become such a big fan of Kiersten Modglin! If you are looking for binge-worthy, fast-paced "popcorn" thrillers, look no further. Pick up a KMod book!

Modglin's books are always 100% entertaining with amazing, mind-blowing endings and Widow Falls is no exception.

I highly recommend this one! The Arrangement is still my favorite, but all the others I've read have still been enjoyable.

Kiersten Modglin is the queen of thriller books! All of her work is written well, told beautifully, and makes your head whip around with how twisty the twists are. And I am here for it!!!! This story had such a creepy vibe that made me cringe (in a good way) but I also wanted to know what the heck was going on between these characters and their surroundings. You could just tell something was off. I sort of thought I knew what was going on and was almost correct as the book was ending. I liked how it twist went, and didn't see that one coming. Major props to this one! I'd totally recommend it to my friends, and anyone who likes to read wild thrillers.

Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this book!

I loved it! Widow Falls just gave me all the creepy vibes from the beginning, and I just could not get enough of it. Sloane's discovery of the journal added a fantastic element where you are hearing Sloane's perspective while also learning more about the girl who went missing throughout the book. I love books that are setup this way, and this one did not disappoint. I also felt that the audio was well done and easy to follow! The twists at the end were not what I expected, and I really enjoyed this book!

Sloane takes a job at Widow Falls when she realizes people have mysteriously disappeared. She then finds a diary that says don’t trust anyone.

I found the premise of this novel to be suspenseful, but I found Sloane to be incredibly weak. She was such an over thinker, which drove me nuts. In all honesty, I was waiting for her to go missing 🤷🏼‍♀️. However, I heard great things from this author so I’ll be sure to check out her other works.

Thank you @netgalley , Kiersten Modglin, and Dreamscape Media for this ARC.

The story has a good start and the premise is interesting. Sloane takes a job in a summer camp. Although everything looks fun and cool in the beginning, things start to spiral out of control and deep secrets start to be unraveled.

The book is well written, however on from time to time it felt like it over amplified what was about to happen and when what was supposed to be the big event came along, it felt short to deliver the gripping, suspenseful scenes.

Nevertheless a good read and, as always, Kiersten Modglin has a few twists saved for the very end.

A big thank you to Netgalley andDreamscape Media for allowing me to read this nice book!

Kiersten Modglin is a fairly new to me author, but I have managed to read 4 of her books in the past few months. I have loved all of the ones I have read, but this one fell a little short. I enjoyed the story, but it was a little slow. I think I just wanted more suspense. Nothing really happened for the first 70% of the book and I think if I was reading the physical book rather then listening to the audiobook I would have struggled to get through it. The narrator really helped move the story along.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

"Widow Falls" by Kiersten Modglin is a total creep-fest with a twist I never saw coming! I absolutely devoured this audio book and didn't want to do anything else while I was listening besides just be completely absorbed! Sloane is off on her newest adventure - being a white-water rafting guide with some other folks about her age at a camp all summer. Once she arrives, everything seems fun, sure there are a few haunted woods tales about Widow Falls and the town around it, but overall it seems like a dream job and a fun season ahead! However, things quickly start to go wrong and she questions what she really knows about this place and her co-workers. Who are these people? Who is her boss? What is really going on at Widow Falls?

This was absolutely fantastic! Kiersten Modglin does a great job choosing just the right words, and I even very much enjoyed the narrator's style as well. I listened to this alone in my house at night and it totally gave me the "someone's watching me" creeps. 5/5 stars from me!

When Sloane landed a new job at a rafting company in Widow Falls she quickly realized that there was something strange about the small town. She learned that the guide she was replacing literally disappeared. When she starts asking questions she soon learns that the place has a mysterious past with stories to tell, but they are just stories right? Nothing to worry about. So then what really happened to the guide Sloane came to replace?

Although this book was not as thrilling as I expected it to be it was still a good read. If you have not read anything by Kiersten Modglin start now! You will not be disappointed.

WOW, I went into this book blind just like with all the other Kiersten Modglin books I've read so far and once again was blown away! I literally could NOT stop listening! I listened to this in ONE sitting because it was just so good. Widow Falls was intriguing, mysterious, twisty and just crazy. The audio was so well done and well paced and just sucked me in with its vibe. Just do yourself a favor and pick this one up!
