I enjoyed learning about all of the rituals and history of the winter solstice through this novel. Though I had not been familiar with Llewellyn press prior, I am now subscribed to their updates and will look forward to sharing their titles with patrons that will find them engaging and fulfilling to their lives. I will be reading this again for this years' Yule celebration. Thanks Llewellyn for allowing me to review this title :)

Thank you to NetGalley for the audio version of this book. To be honest I had a hard time getting through this book. It is full off information but I just could not get into the book. I did listen to it but it really is not my style. I am sure there are many who appreciate the wonderful writing.

I love this series. As a new practitioner the holidays can be confusing and everyone seems to have a different opinion. I can always trust Llewelyn to have a clear direction to steer me. In the book, Susan delves into the history of Yule and ways to observe it in a very approachable way. I highly recommend it!

Really did like this book. Hearing can be good to if not want to look through it. Pretty easy to listen to, not to bad of a speed.

Great intro to Pagan winter solstice, or those interested in crafting their own alternative holiday rituals. DIY Festivus / un-Christmas.

Fascinating look into how many of the "Christmas" traditions we do today actually originate from old Pagan Yule/Winter Solstice/Midwinter celebrations, and ideas for how to bring some of those original meanings back into our own modern celebrations.

The subject matter was well compiled and very interesting. As an audiobook, I did not care for this title at all. The narration was not pleasant and I did not even finish listening to the book.

Susan Pesznecker's book on Yule is already a classic, but the audiobook opens up a whole new world to those who prefer audiobooks or absorb them better. Carefully performed, the book is cheerful and smart, with plenty of pauses and cautions for those who want to use the audiobook to perform a ritual live or write down the workings to use. The recipes are delicious (I have cranberry cordial prepping on my counter now) and the history behind Yule is fascinating. Whether you're new to Yule or are looking for new ways to celebrate the holidays, this audiobook is a fabulous option.

This was an interesting intro guide to Yule and a brief history about the practices that are involved with the Winter Solstice. I enjoyed the narrators voice and listening to the histories and practices since most people don't understand the symbolism of the Tree and all the other symbols at the different solstices that have been absorbed into Christian holidays.
The recipes, rituals and spells section I may need to get a copy of the physical book though I was able to take notes. It reminds you to pause and get a pen etc.
My daughters and I used the sugar cookie recipe while making our cutout cookies this weekend and I want to make some of the dream pillow magical bags. I have trouble sleeping and then with bad dreams so any help will be appreciated
This calming spiritual book was relaxing and had some very useful items I want to try and add to my purse and nighttime routine.

Thank you for letting me listen!

A good introduction to the Wiccan holiday of Yule. The book opens with a general overview of many Northern Hemisphere winter traditions and holidays which was very interesting. It moves into crafts and decorations for the home that could easily blend into most people's "Christmas" decor. The sections on spells, prayers and invocations will be a serviceable introduction to beginners and those that are curious, but will be a disappointment to people who have been practicing.

The audiobook was well produced and did have suggestions for when you might want to pause and grab a pencil and paper to take notes which I thought was helpful and novel. But, the narration suggested too many pauses and it broke up the flow making it seem clunky. It would be useful, however, for visually impaired people who wanted to copy the rituals exactly and repeat after the narrator.

Recommended for those curious about winter traditions or the basics of Wiccan Yule, but are not interested in an in-depth source.

Look, everyone who reads Llewellyn books knows that they're in for a slightly dry read. There's no way around it when one tries to pack that amount of information into a relatively small book. But anyone who reads Llewellyn books also knows that there's no better place to get detailed, accurate information on a vast variety of topics. Yule is a high-quality book that explores many facets of midwinter and the traditions and practices that surround it. I especially appreciated the focus of the author on inclusivity and not making assumptions about others' beliefs, because as the book indicates, there is wide diversity in how the same general holiday is celebrated across culture and geography.

This is the first time I've listened to a Llewellyn book on audio instead of reading the print copy, and it was a little bit of a different experience. I usually consider these types of books to be ones that I read slowly, making notes and bookmarking pages for later use. I think lots of people use them more as reference guides than something to be read straight through. I did, however, love the narrator and thought she brought a lot to the book with her engaging narrative style. There were a few diagrams in the book that I didn't look at because I was driving while listening, but I don't think I lost information as it was also reflected in the text.

A good handbook with ideas on how to celebrate Yule. Christmas Even has always been my favourite day of the year and these spells, rituals, recipes, etc. are exactly the kind of thing that I always loved about it so I'm excited to add them to my repertoire this year! My family isn't religious and I follow the atheist path of witchcraft so I think I could introduce these new traditions to them pretty easily.
