“This is just going to be a one night stand” to “oops, your older sister is my boss” with some adorable animals thrown in. What the Cat Dragged In was an enjoyable listen, but the sister not approving of her brother and friend getting together dragged on way too long and caused an unnecessary third act breakup.

Narration: This was a new to me narrator and I loved their performance. I’ll definitely be seeking them out for more audiobooks.

Thanks to Dreamscape and NetGalley for my chance to review.

This was just such a cute read. I love when polar opposites come together and give each other what the other is missing. This story was just overall a really fun escape from reality and I thought that Josh and Paige were so cute.

This was a sexy and touching rom com - enough emotion to keep it from being cheesy, but not so much that you feel wrecked after reading. It did have me laughing and the heat level was super spicy. Definitely NSFW! The narrator was talented and I was able to get into the story without being distracted by the voice actor.

I received an ARC of the audio version of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. The opinions are mine alone.

The cover initially drew me into this book - I'll admit it I'm typically a "judge a book by the cover" girl when choosing books, especially more light reads. This book definitely goes into the "easy reading" category but sadly, wasn't a favorite of mine. The back and forth between the characters didn't particularly draw me in and while I didn't love the characters, I didn't hate them either. I feel pretty impartial to them, to be honest.

A very light, simple language read that would make this a good pool/beach book. While I'm not a huge cat person, I did like the backdrop of a cat cafe.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this gifted audio book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a cute enough concept -- event planner at a cat cafe meets her employer's brother but there wasn't enough specificity in the execution. The real issue is that this contemporary romance was light on laughs as well as substance.

A very shallow contemporary romance. I didn't connect with or sympathize with the characters. Just not for me. Also I hate the cover.

Thank you so much NetGalley for the copy. This book just did not do it for me. I really wanted more and I just didn’t get it.

What The Cat Dragged In | Kate McMurray

★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

I listened to this book last week, and thought it was adorable. I mean.. a cat café? Yes please. It was exactly what I needed to break up all of these emotional stories I’ve been reading lately.

The characters were lovely, and the story was very sweet. I hadn’t realized that this was actually the second book of a series, so I’ll have to go back and read the first one. (If you read this book first, obvs the ending of Lauren and Caleb’s story will be spoiled, since they’re the characters from the first novel, and are also heavily involved in this one).

In the name of honest reviews:
There were two things that annoyed me about this book.

1. I found a lot of the conversations didn’t feel natural. Sometimes the characters spoke in a way that didn’t seem like it would ever take place in real life. That being said, I think that could just be the narrator. Every now and then odd words/syllables were accentuated, and I think that may have been my issue. I feel like if I’d read it myself instead of listening to audio, it wouldn’t have bothered me.

2. I don’t understand why Paige made such a big deal out of having to do a grand gesture, and then... didn’t do a grand gesture. It was very weird to me. It seemed like the author just hadn’t been able to think of one? Idk.

All in all, I think it was a cute, light listen. A breath of fresh air. I do wish I had read it instead, but that’s life. If you’re a fan of Hallmark-style movies (like me), I think you’d enjoy this!

What The Cat Dragged In comes out tomorrow, and I can’t wait to see what you all think of it! 🐈

thank you NetGalley, DreamScape Media, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the advanced copy.

A cute and fun romcom, easy read, light. Great for a lazy afternoon or beach read.
The cat lover in me approves of this book.

Although this was fairly fun there wasn't anything too splashy or exciting. Just some people meeting at a cat cafe. The two main characters were okay but the issues they had seemed minor. I'm not mad I read it but am not inspired to read the rest of the series.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. Hmm I just couldn't get into this book. I found the main female character just very very immature. She is suppose to be almost 30 and her thinking process and decisions make her act like she is 19. To me this book just threw "Woke" in your face and it just got to the point to where it was just obnoxious. I also did not care for the narrator. Her voice for the main female was just monotone and boring.

This book started off great for me. I loved how Paige and Josh met. The spark between them was apparent right away. However, by the second half of the book Paige started to get on my nerves and I couldn't relate to her motives at all. The ending nicely wrapped up the book.

Cute and funny best friend's brother romance. As a cat person, I liked that aspect of the story - the cat cafe and cat rescue. An enjoyable read overall.

A cute rom-com. I liked the main characters, but the could learn to communicate a little better. The cat cafe was a fun part of the book and I liked the friend group. Some of the situations seemed forced, but overall it was a light fun read.

This was a cute romantic comedy and I was instantly sold once I saw it involved a cat café. The feline characters were by far the stars of the show. I liked the two main characters Josh - a first year attorney working crazy hours and Paige - event planner for the cat café, but I did feel that they both could have been developed a little more which would have improved their relationship. I didn’t love Lauren in this one (Josh’s sister and Paige’s boss/best friend). I know every romantic comedy has some type of drama but I didn’t love the direction it took in this one. The writing was good and the story definitely moved quickly.

It was cute but a very mediocre book. I don't think I would read any other books by this author but the concept in general was quite cute.

Who would have guessed you could capture feral cats and hot lawyers at the same time. Paige and Josh hit it off and fall into bed quickly but the next morning discover Josh is Paige's best friends brother. Do they keep seeing each other? Maybe a coffee or two at the Cat Cafe? Does their relationship have paw-silbility?

Paige is a woman claiming to want to find her person. Josh is a self proclaimed workaholic in his first year at his law firm. These two start as nothing but friends with benefits but quickly find themselves catching feelings for each other. It was a little to much yes no yes for me but man I appreciated the purr worthy love scenes.

What the Cat Dragged in is another cute rom-com from Kate McMurray and the Whitman Street Cat Cafe series. After Caleb and Lauren's story in the first book, this one is about Lauren's brother Josh and her employee/friend Paige (who we met in the first book!) I was looking forward to this one after finishing Like Cats and Dogs, it didn't *quite* live up to the first. I didn't feel the intense chemistry and connection between Josh and Paige like I did with Caleb and Lauren (that enemies-to-lovers/hate sex totally hits different), and the entire story fell a touch flat because of the lack of the same connection. The reason they couldn't be together (best friend's brother/sister's best friend) felt weak and the resolution seemed a little convenient and easy. I did enjoy the narrator - Suehyla El-Attar Young did a great job with the characters. She added plenty of character through tone and inflection and I found myself laughing quite often more from the way the story was read than the story itself. I just wish the dual POV story would have opted to use dual narrators.

I wish I would have gotten a eARC Of this instead because I got a bit into It and almost drove Myself crazy. I couldn’t stand his the person reading the story would try to deepen their voice to imitate the male, it made the story big flow as nicely and frankly hurt my brain. Other than that, the story seemed good and to be progressing but I could not fully finish it :(

Umm yeah. While I did like Paige and Josh's dynamic more than Lauren and Caleb's, these are still very flat characters. And what the hell is Ch 20 when Paige and Evan are at the singles cooking mixer and "Paige looks around and saw a lot of mixed up gender pairings, same and opposite sex, and a few non-binary couples, which made her smile." Oh ok. Didn't know you could just tell a non-binary person on sight. What do they look like exactly? 🙄 Oh but box checked, the author managed to get "non-binary" in her book! Yay diversity! That was just REALLY weird.

Evan should be who the third book is about but I have a feeling it will be about Lindsay, who was not even in the first book but all of a sudden is part of the crew and Lauren, Lindsay, and Evan have known each other forever...
