I received the audiobook on Netgalley. This is an honest review that I wasn't paid for.

I am on the fence on this one. Did I like it? Yes. Was it the best book I ever read? No. It was well written, but for me-and this shouldn't dissuade you from reading-I didn't sense chemistry. The narration was great. I just felt some of the language and interaction was stilted. The main characters were perfect, but then there had to be some kind of problem for them. It felt almost forced. I liked all of the characters and, like I said, the writing was good. I just didn't feel the romance. Having said that, you should read it for yourself. This is only my opinion and I congratulate anyone who writes a book.

"What the Cat Dragged In" is a fun and light-hearted read. While predictable, the book still grabs your attention and keeps you wanting to hear more of the story. "What the Cat Dragged In" is a classic 'best friend's brother' story where you could map out the plot from the beginning, but McMurray creates such likeable and personal characters that keeps you wanting to learn what is unique about their situation. I would recommend this book to my fellow romance readers. *I received an advanced reader audiobook in exchange for this honest review.*

Huge thank you for the audio arc netgalley!
This was such a fun cute read! I love novels that have pets in them and this had a cat cafe! ❤️ This one was such a Hallmark Movie romance story and especially during this time of year I was swooning for Josh and Paige! Their romance was so dang adorable and I loved the dual perspective! The side characters where so amazing and I’m excited to see this is a series and I can’t wait to pick up book one, Like Cats and Dogs, because that means I get to see these characters again and I’m so excited!

I did not know this was a sequel to a previous book- but you can read this and still enjoy it alone. Just probably would’ve had a better back story of characters if I had read the first book. Sweet little rom come that cat loves are bound to love. Everyone loves a happy ending.
I listened to the audiobook and I love audiobooks but with this one I honestly felt like I would’ve liked this book more if I had physically read it.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC copy in return for an honest review!
Pros: Super cute rom/com story, very hallmark-esk. I loved this relationship and the fun banter between these two was the best!
Cons: It is definitely a fun read but there isn't anything that stands out from other similar books.
The plot was ok but the banter was a win!

Not going to lie, I was drawn to this book simply based on the fact that there is a cat on the cover and the story takes place in a cat cafe. 😹

This story is a cute and simple ‘best friends brother’ type forbidden love. The story is absolutely predictable in every way, nothing surprising and no real conflict besides the obvious. My favourite parts of the books were anything to do with the cats, which isn’t surprising! Volunteering to help save feral cats, cat cafe, cat adoptions, and all the descriptions of cats and their attitudes - sign me up for it all! 😹

Overall, definitely a cute and easy to read romance with a little bit of spice and a lot of cat.

Thank you for Source Books providing me with this advanced e-copy in exchange for an honest review!

Out December 7th, 2021 !

This was a fun lighthearted romance with dual character perspectives. The dual perspectives allow readers to connect with both protagonists and see each scene from their viewpoints. The setting was well developed with world-building that instantly drew me in and the ending had me happy, sappy, and ready for more!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5

Genre: Contemporary Romance (rom com)

What the Cat Dragged In was an ARC read and will be officially available in just a couple days on December 7th. It follows the life of Paige Danvers who works as an event organiser at her best friend Lauren's New York City cat cafe. Paige runs into Lauren's lawyer brother Josh at a cat rescue event and the two hit it off instantly, but neither is thrilled when they realize they have Lauren in common.

This was such an adorable read. Like most rom coms, there really wasn't much depth to it and I would absolutely classify it as a fluff read with a very predictable plot. However, I honestly loved the writing so much that I didn't even mind.

The characters each had distinct and detailed personalities that came alive in the ways they were written. I grew to adore every single one including not just the main characters, but the side characters as well. The book also had various cats who appears throughout it and they too were so incredibly well developed! The author has either spent a lot of time around cats or did a significant amount of research on them because they were incredibly realistic and their unique, feline personalities were hilariously genuine.

My love for the characters (and cats) meant that the plot had me hooked and invested despite its formulaic nature and similarities to most other rom coms. The writing flowed naturally and allowed me to just sit back and enjoy the uplifting and heartwarming love story that it was.

As I side note, I actually listened to this as an audiobook and the narrator did a really phenomenal job. She's definitely one of my new favorite narrators, and I would recommend listening to it for any fellow audiobook lovers.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend this book for the next time you're in the mood for something quick and light. Especially to anyone who loves cats!

Sweet, cute, funny :) I have to admit there were things I really didn't care for about the characters personalities, but the overall story was one I really enjoyed. the narration was good and I look forward to seeing if there are more stories about some of the side characters!

I am not going to lie. I almost DNF'd this book at the very beginning. Their very first "interaction" was a bit cringy and I was afraid all of the book was going to be that way. I am glad that I stuck with it. I actually really enjoyed the story and the characters, although I wanted to shake Paige more than a few times. I think Josh is an absolute sweetheart and was so easy to fall for. I also really enjoyed the pop culture and Jane Austen references. I didn't think I ever needed a book to have both of those, but I did. I thought this story was adorable, the cover was adorable, and the narrator was great. I would definitely buy a physical copy.

This book was Hallmark-level cute! I love the cat cafe aspect and how much fun it brings to the story. Paige and Josh have a great connection and their romance is light-hearted and swoony. If you’re looking for something sweet, this is a good read!

I received an ARC copy of the audiobook in exchange for this review.

Thank you to Netgalley for sending me a free arc of the audiobook
4/5 ⭐️
This was really cute! I’ve never read a book that involves a cat cafe but I was totally here for it! The characters were likeable and not to to insa-lovey. I also liked the fact that Paige didn’t know who Josh was at first so that caused a lot of back and forth between them.

I was fortunate to receive an audio version of this book. Suehyla El-Attar Young narrates this story. This was my first narration by this narrator and I really enjoyed her. Her voice was amazing throughout the story.
Paige is an event planner for a cat cafe and there she meets Josh while volunteering. Josh is the brother of the owner of the cafe. I enjoyed this book over all. The story did feel rushed at times, but overall a nice sweet romance.

I received this ARC through #netgalley and I am voluntarily reviewing this book

Light-hearted romance to delight and entertain you for hours with a sweet happily ever after! This one is perfect for the Hallmark movie romance crowd and I am happy to say that I enjoyed it very much. A varied cast of characters that you will delightfully become invested in. I am thrilled to realize that there was another book before this one and that it is a part of the series! I have downloaded book 1 to listen to and catch up with the characters backstory's so that I will be fully prepared for the next book to come out as I can't wait to hear how all the cast members stories go as well as keep up with the characters that played a starring role in this book! I do love a good series!!!

this was a decent romance novel. It wasn't anything special but I enjoyed it. It was fun and light hearted which is exactly what you want in a book like this. This is book just sadly isn't all that memorable. I felt like I had read everything in this book before just with different characters. It all just felt sort of dull. Overall this was a good book just nothing to write home about.

I adored listening to this book. Paige loves her life. Mostly. Something is missing, but she as her dating life has been, well less than stellar she has decided to put that part of her life on hold for a bit. How many bad dates can one person truly live through? Then when out on a kitty rescue mission she meets Josh, a seemingly really good person who may just be “the one” except for one teeny problem. She is the brother of her BFF and boss at work. Josh is also recovering from a broken heart and while trying to survive his first year at a law firm he has little time for romance. Except there is something about Paige. This is a sweet, face paced, no nonsense great listen to will they, won’t they, and what if’s? This can absolutely be read as a standalone, though I will be downloading the audiobook as soon as I finish posting this! If you have a heart, like good people and are all about animal rescue than you will absolutely adore this wonderful listen (or read). The narration was perfection.

This romance follows Paige, who left her corporate job to work as the event planner for the local cat cafe, and her chance meeting and one-night stand with Josh. After their night together, they think there just might be more to their relationship, but there are a few roadblocks along the way. It's revealed very early on that Josh's brother is Paige's boss and very close friend, and that Josh is just starting a very demanding and time-consuming job. What follows is their push and pull, and give and take, while they balance their happiness against those odds.

I really enjoyed this sweet story, with a few spicy spots. I liked the strong female representation and the kind male lead. The cat cafe background gave it an adorable angle that I enjoyed. Overall, this was a solid romance with great narration that I would recommend to others.

What the Cat Dragged In
by Kate McMurray
Narrated by Suehyla El-Attar Young

I described an audiobook arc of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

So I was 100% enjoying and onboard with this book until about 78%. It’s a light romantic comedy filled with fun and irreverent humor and characters who are great at not taking themselves too seriously. And like all stories in this genre there was the necessary conflict/problem/tension that builds until you come to the make or break crisis moment. And while you could see it coming and I don’t think it’s a problem that everyone would necessarily see as that big of a problem I could go there with the plot so I’m along for the ride and then we get to the crisis and the communication especially from the heroine just breaks down to the point where I was very annoyed with her. I’m one of those people that as a friend will just tell you - just talk about it! Talk to each other! Put all the cards on the table!

Also - (***FYI spoilery stuff ahead***)

She tells him - I need some time to think this through. And being the good guy he is he says ok and gives her what she asks for. Then without coming back to talk to him again to let him know her decision etc she just kind of assumes they’re over and goes to a singles event 🤦‍♀️ not that anything happens really. There’s no cheating. But why would you even go to something like that - and give some guy your phone number - when our poor hero doesn’t even know where they stand ?!?

Then when she does realize that oh she really does want to be all in with the hero she feels she needs to make this big stand about it and make a big gesture…… but then the gesture is just going to an ice cream shop ….. 🤷‍♀️ I mean I can get behind a big gesture when it’s showing the other person that you are making room for them in your life to show how much they mean to you, like moving, or quitting a job, or learning something hard etc. but if something like that isn’t really needed to support the future of the relationship- just go talk to them as soon as possible 🙄 you made him wait long enough geeze.

Also there’s a reference to someone who was secretly pregnant rearranging their work schedule to deal with morning sickness. First trimester nausea doesn’t just click off at 10 am or something. I have 2 kids, every time I puked with them was at lunch after eating BBQ which apparently they were not fans of while in utero. Flying under the assumption that it only happens “in the morning” without at least commenting something like “while that’s not the case for everyone it was for this person” just makes the reference seem uninformed.

There is an HEA but I didn’t feel like they earned it. So 4/5. Would have gone 3.5 but a cat cafe with cats named after Jane Austen characters is just too fun. Also great job to the narrator differentiating between characters.

I wouldn’t say don’t read it but I would say - don’t try conducting your relationships like this at home kids - just be straight with people - it’s ok to not know sometimes and it’s ok to talk it out.

A cute story about Paige who works at a Cat Cafe and Josh who is a hot young attorney. The two meet at a cat Cafe and end up hitting it off. The story of hot new romance and heart break intertwine. The story takes place in Brooklyn and you get the feel of the big city, in a small neighborhood like Brooklyn.
