Sara Ennis’ followup to “The Dollhouse” is another fast paced and harrowing ride! I flew through this sequel, on the edge of my seat.

Seventeen year old Angel has attempted to move on from the horrific abuse she suffered at the hands of Alfred. She has become best friends with a Trucker named CB, who finally makes Angel feel safe. On one of their routes, Angel find an abused woman in the bathroom who just escaped from captivity. She recognizes the fear in this woman’s eyes, having been there herself. Angel vows to help this woman rescue her friend Harper who is still captive, even though it forces Angel back into a dangerous situation similar to what she just escaped from.

This book is not for the squeamish, just like the first in the series. If anything this book is even more violent and disturbing than “The Dollhouse,” almost leaning more into the horror category than psychological thriller.

I really enjoyed seeing what happened to Angel after her trauma and how she was maneuvering through life. We see other characters from the first book as well but the novel is told through Angel, CB and Harper’s perspectives. I particularly loved badass CB! She was such a great addition and foil to Angel.

We got to know a bit of backstory on the deranged humans capable of such violence but I definitely want to know more. I think that would have made this a 5 star read for me. If you like movies like “Saw,” this book series is for you!

The Hunters : Sins of the Father
By Sara Ennis

Happy Publication Day 🎉🎉🎉

This is the second book following Angel from The Dollhouse. It could be a stand alone book, but I recommend reading The Dollhouse first.

I thought the first book was wild! Sara Ennis has done it again! In this new instalment we get fast paced and action packed scenes. The short chapters and multiple POV’s make for a compelling and unputdownable read.

I was so thankful to buddy read this with Farah @mamas and we flew through it in a couple of days.

There are a few new characters, and I fell in love with CB, a take no nonsense strong female lead with a heart of gold. I can’t say too much without giving anything away. Swipe for synopsis ➡️

Few trigger warnings in this. So tread with caution. Rape, violence, torture and kidnapping.

Thanks to @netgally and author @saraennis for this advanced reading copy.
Out today!

I loved The Dollhouse, so I was excited to read the sequel!

In this book we follow Angel. Angel survived the Dollhouse and now she’s just trying to live a normal life. Unfortunately, it seems like trauma follows her. She ends up finding Emily, in a rest stop bathroom all bloody and scared. Emily and her friend were abducted and tortured by a police sheriff. Emily escaped, but she wants to go back and save her friend. Angel puts herself in danger trying to help Emily. Will she be able to make it out alive?
This was another wild ride with short chapters, fast paced and full of suspense. We were introduced to new characters, but Angel is the star. We get to see how she’s matured and grown since the Dollhouse. She’s a bad ass, a character that you root for every step of the way.

I feel like this one wasn’t as disturbing and cringeworthy as The Dollhouse. It’s a thriller full of action. I highly recommend! The next book comes out in 2022 and I can’t wait!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Angel survived the dollhouse and is now crossing the country with her friend, CB, when they come across another abused woman. This leads the two of them to help her try to hunt down the predator and rescue her friend. At the beginning, it really felt like this book was an afterschool special about the dangers of hitchhiking, and maybe trusting boys. Thankfully, it didn't go too far down that path before the story came into its own. The abuse was a bit too much for me, but thankfully it was always described as having taken place and the reader didn't have to read as it went on. That distance helped keep the book from being too much for me to handle. Although I still feel like Angel and CB had a clue they never followed up on (and it is really bugging me), I enjoyed reading their character development. Angel is still dealing with her past trauma and this installment in the series showed how it has deeply impacted her personality. I hope the next book is equally as engaging.

Title: Hunted: Sins of the father by @saraenniswrites
Genre: Thriller
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Verdict: Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read this ARC, and I have to say her second novel in the Angel Evanston series is a spine chilling triumph!!
I loved the themes of this novel: Teenage Hitchhiking, finding yourself after trauma, facing your past and breaking a toxic family cycle.
I read this book in a day and a half because, with each chapter, the tension kept getting excited like a bond movie! I loved the characters and the Stephen King Misery vibes!
The writing is both brutal and dynamic, much like King’s, so much so I felt like I was in the book snd and even though I knew where the narrative was heading, I couldn’t look away. I thought the multiple POV’s with each chapter made me sweat. Move over, Tess Gerritsen; Sara Ennis is in town and is hot on the heels of you and Shalini Boland. I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK THREE, where we really jump from the frying pan but don’t just listen to me; Read the book out next year!

This story was gripping from start to finish! I felt my pulse quickening the closer I got to the end and then the last page... talk about a cliffhanger. Although the content of this story is a bit tough to read about, I found the change in POV helped to break it up. I really enjoyed the characters carrying over from the first one into this one and the growth that happened there. Quick-paced, gripping, and twisty!

I thought the way this one ends is a lot different than many thrillers/mysteries I have read and that makes me excited for future work as a part of this series and by the author in general.

I do think it should be noted that this book is pretty graphic in its descriptions. Which is a great job on the author's part but could be hard for some readers so I suggest checking for trigger warnings or going into the novel carefully.

The side characters were great and very likable and the villains were intense! Altogether, a great suspense novel.

Since tragedy struck Angel's life, she has worked to piece herself back together. It's only been two years since her nightmare occurred and she has since taken to traveling the country with her new friend, CB. A random pit stop puts a troubled girl in her path, Angel finds herself unable to walk away. When the girl starts to tell her story, Angel realizes she may just be putting herself back in harm's way if she decides to help her. That is, if she can even comprehend exactly what evil this woman is describing. She hasn't even fully recovered from her own tragedy, can she really help this girl escape hers?

The Hunted: Sins of the father by Sara Ennis

Sum it up:
After angel survives the dollhouse, she is now riding with CB her friend the truck driver. One day they stopped at a rest stop quick and when angel finds a girl beaten badly she knows even though she's still finding her way through her pain she needs to help.

My thoughts
This book just wow I guess I should have read Dollhouse first but this book had me hooked in the first few pages. I love the relationship and the trust between CB and Angel. Angel has gone through so much and she might be timid and not want to face certain fears but in the end, she faces them head-on. Emily has such bravery that she finds along the way after all the abuse she goes through and just jumps back in to save her friend. Sara is now one of my favorite authors, definitely need to read the Dollhouse and can not wait for the 3rd one to come out. I really enjoyed how Sara gave each one a perspective it made it that much more enjoyable seeing it from all of their point of view. If you enjoy psychological thrillers go read them, they won't disappoint.

Thank you for the adjacent copy Netgalley.

This story was extremely intense. There were parts that I felt a little sick with the stuff that was happening which is what I like in dark books. This is the first book I've read by the Author but will not be my last.

What a heck of a follow up from the Dollhouse book! I thought that one was intense but this one went another level of crazy! Note: if you are squeamish about abuse of many kinds and violence this may not be for you.

Angel is recovering from her Dollhouse encounter and has a new friend CB that is a truck driver. One night at a bathroom break she takes she sees a girl named Emily bloody and beaten. A respected sheriff has taken her and her friend Harper and tortured them (in super atrocious vivid ways) and she wants to save her friend. Angel has to confront the situation and deal with another traumatic event.

So so so good! Sara Ennis is unbelievable at writing. Her character development her pacing her narrating it sucks me in and I cannot stop watching the train wreck story in front of me! If you are ready for an intense vivid angsty read this is it! I cannot wait for the next one!

Thank you netgalley and Sara Ennis for the arc in exchange for my honest review!

Wow. The suspense in this one is incredible. This book is the sequel to The Dollhouse. Angel finds herself in yet again, another dangerous situation. Other characters from the previous book pop up as well. I really enjoyed this book. Could not put it down. The Mercy is next, coming Spring 2022. I cannot wait!!!

Thank you Sara Ennis and NetGalley for the chance to read this follow up to The Dollhouse. I love books that return to previous established themes and characters, particularly in a book such as this one that allow a chance to explore themes on resilience following a traumatic experience in the previous book (I like it when an author keeps following up on a character who can offer a lot of valuable story arcs!).

I appreciate how deftly Ms. Ennis handles complex themes on darkness again in this book; I was reminded of true crime material about serial killer Robert Hansen and I liked how this book used clearly real world themes, even though terrible, to, for me, honor those real life victims as well. I found the development of Angel and her recovery from her experiences in The Dollhouse to be realistic, understandable, and thoughtfully developed as overcoming trauma is not a smooth or steady process and can be easily misunderstood by others. I liked that Angel was willing to find the strength to help others and in that way could examine her experiences and offer support to other victims.

I am a reader who does not mind dark themes so I really enjoy Ms. Ennis' books, I hope to continue to read and support her work! Thank you again for sharing your book with me, I look forward to sharing my review on my instagram account, website, and other relevant outlets!

This series is SO insanely intense, I love it! I found this one to be not as disturbing as Dollhouse, but, don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely still high up there for sure and may not be a book for everyone due to sensitivity of the subject matter and trigger warnings!

The Hunted was so action packed! Just like the first book in the series, I had major anxiety reading this - in such a good way. Constantly rooting for characters and devouring page after page, this one was definitely unputdownable! Phew! For my next read I think I need something light and fluffy now though!

Thank you SO much Sarah Ennis for allowing me to read this early copy of your newest book! Anyone looking for a dark, disturbing and adrenaline rushing series be sure to pick up Dollhouse and then grab The Hunted, out November 30th, 2021 !

I already cannot wait for spring 2022 to get my hands on the third book of the series - The Mercy : Angel of Death ! Eeeeek!!!

Great new chapter into Angel's life after her escape from the Dollhouse. This kept the same suspenseful pace and thrilling perspective as The Dollhouse but with whole new characters and villains.

Wow. I loved this book! It kept me wanting to read more. I was hooked from the beginning. I really enjoyed the different POV. I would have liked to have a POV by Jonny Law to fully get inside his head. While I was reading I just kept thinking about how crazy some people really are. This is a must read (read The Dollhouse first)! I can’t wait for part 3 and another crazy ass adventure for Angel.

This is the 1st novel I have ever read by Sara Ennis and I can genuinely shout from the mountain top that it WON’T be my last! In her extraordinary book, The Hunted: Sins of the Father, she effortlessly took me into a world full of beauty - beauty built upon devastation, haunting memories, pain and longing in her main characters. But "living their journey" as I read through this fascinating book about strength, determination & grit, I could see the true worth of the scars each carried. Scars that can either hold you tethered to the past or ones that can remind you of where you've been and all you’ve accomplished since then. Knowing full well that without those scars, you wouldn't be you. I am proud of my scars because they symbolize my survival. I have such a deep admiration for Sara for writing her book about transformation from victim to victory. I am going back to read the first book in this series now! Assuredly a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ novel if ever there was one! Add it to your MUST - READ or TBR lists. Thank you Sara for reminding me that my scars are magnificent. I can't wait to read you next book. 📖 😊👍🏼❤️

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

When I saw that Sara Ennis had a new book out, I knew I had to add it to my TBR list right away! The Hunter: Sins of the Father by Sara Ennis is the sequel to The Dollhouse, but it's fine to read as a standalone if you didn't read the previous book. The book revolves around Angel, a character from the Dollhouse, who stumbles across a broken and bleeding girl one day at a truck stop bathroom. Emily tells her a tale of horror, starting with being kidnapped by a local sheriff. The worst part is, her best friend Harper is still being held captive. Will Angel decide to help Emily? Will they be able to rescue Harper?

Here is a chilling excerpt from Chapter 1, which is from Harper's point of view:

"I hear him say, "Getting tired of the dark-haired one. No more fight in her. 'Bought time to turn her loose."
My pulse quickens. DId he say, "Turn her loose?" Is he going to let us go?
Ha. You're a fool, Harpy!' No way can he turn us loose. They can't leave us alive, not after everything they've done to us. For Harper White and Emily Bright, best friends with rhyming names and big dreams, this is the end of the road."

Overall, The Hunter: Sins of the Father is a heart-pounding thriller that will appeal to fans of Karin Slaughter or Dot Hutchinson's The Butterfly Garden. Just like those books, The Hunter is not for the faint of heart. There are some descriptions of violence, gore, etc. that made me feel a bit queasy. Although there aren't any twists in this book, that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. It's a straightforward thriller with nonstop action from beginning to end. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in December!

I was so happy to see this on NetGalley as I loved The Doll House (Book 1) and Two Lies & a Truth (Book .5) I highly recommend them both as they are creepy as Hell. I recommend you read the first two books before reading this as it helps to see what happened to Angel in the past.

Sara Ennis knows how to write thrilling fiction, she doesn't shy away from dark themes or graphic violence. The violence in this series is not gratuitous, it is used to show just how messed up a mind can get from an abusive childhood, it is also used to help portray the fear and anxiety the victims feel. I also got a sense that when the victims fight back it is to show how we can gain strength from what hurts us. This book deals with female friendship in the best light as well. I liked how none of these people were blood related but considered each other family. I am not usually a series reader but I liked this one so much that I am excited that there is going to be another book in 2022, that says a lot about how much I enjoy Ms. Ennis' writing. I am really looking forward to book three!

2021 has brought us quite a few break through authors . I for one have added at least 5 new authors to my auto buy list .

One book that completely shook me to the core was The Dollhouse by Sara Ennis. If you have not read this yet you need to drop what you are doing and get a copy, now.

Talk about a heart pounding, twisted thriller . I was completely consumed by the first page and instantly became addicted to knowing what would happen next and let me tell you, I could have never prepared myself for what came next .

That leads to me to The Hunted : Sins of the Father . This is book two . Although it could be read as a stand alone I would not recommend it as you get so much out of reading The Dollhouse first .

In true Sara Ennis fashion, this book does not disappoint . I instantly recognized the queeziness that snuck up on me as I began . We follow Angel in the aftermath of the dollhouse. Angel is broken, as anyone would be after the trauma she had faced . When Angel finds Emily bloody and a mess she is confronted with the choice of helping Emily or turning her back on her . After everything that has happened to Angel how can she put herself in the cross hairs of danger ?

Every time I conclude one of Sara Ennis’ books I am left in anticipation of what will she come out with next ? How can they top the prior ? They don’t top one another but they do add more to the story . Both books are 5 stars !

OMG this book was amazing!!! I had previously read The Dollhouse from Ennis and had been bowled over so I had high expectations from the start. And she did not disappoint!! This story is a continuation of Angel's story from The Dollhouse. I loved seeing her journey and watching her grow from that horrible experience. She is a great female heroine. This was also an intense, disturbing story line where the characters were so strong despite the circumstances that they were all put through. The writing was great; lots of creepy and cringe but also lots of wit and humor.. you wouldn't normally think both go together but Ennis has done a great job combining these. Great characters, lots of action and suspense and an explosive ending! Could not put it down!! Cannot wait for more!!
