Definitely my kind of easy to 'get into' kind of story. I was unaware it was part of a series, but this didn't deter me from soon getting to know the setting & it's wonderful characters, loved it, can't wait to read the next one in the series

Back in the beautiful Port Agnes. This is the fourth book in the midwife series and it focuses on Jess.

Jess didn't have an easy life and wants to give something back and is approved as a foster carer. Jess finds a baby on her doorstep and this begins her journey as a foster carer.

An emotional read but Jo Bartlett does it once again. Draws you into the familiar characters.

A twisty story full of angst and childhood trauma. Every character has a background story that we get to explore that makes them friends and we care about them. This time it's Jess story. It's the first time I have read a book in the series but I enjoyed it.

Loved this instalment of this series as much as I loved the first one. Well written, heart warming, amazing characters I’d highly recommend.

Wow! Another fantastic instalment of the Cornish midwives, this time Jess. It’s great the way Jo Bartlett has written each book concentrating one a particular midwife so now we know them all and their stories or do we?
Definitely hoping for more in this series.
Read in one sitting and a highly enjoyable get lost in story

This is the first book I have read in this series but being a fan of Call the Midwife I really wanted to read and review this book. I enjoyed reading about Jess, it was heartbreaking to hear how she had gone from one foster home to another, never feeling wanted and how this affected her ability to get close to people. Now a midwife working with a friendly supportive team she decides to foster and opens her door one morning to a surprise bundle. This is an easy read and I will be looking out more books by Jo Bartlett.

A fabulous and amazing story about the midwife team.

This book is about Jess who’s now a foster carer. One day on her doorstep she finds a baby. Immediately, she falls in love with him. Believing that the baby belongs to a patient of hers.

She will need all the support she can get from her colleagues and Dexter, the social worker whose been there throughout her journey to become a foster carer, to encourage and help her, whist he looks after Riley.

Caring for Teddy, whilst her mother is located, Jess is dreading the day she will have to say goodbye to him. But when she’s told who her parents are, she’s in for a shock…….

We also, get to meet the other midwife Anna’s twins.

It was a heartbreaking read.

Just an amazing feel good book

This is the second book I have read in the Cornish Midwives series. The characters are wonderfully unique and flawed which makes them realistic and likeable. The setting sounds beautiful and I would love to walk on the beach. This book centres on Jess as she begins to foster children. She is trying to recover from the breakup of her marriage and the realization that she will never have children of her own. Her childhood has deeply affected her, living in various foster homes and never feeling like she belonged has left her unable to get close to people. As she leaves for work she finds a baby on her doorstep. The story behind who the baby belongs to becomes the centre of this book. Jess must find the strength to rebuild her life and learn to love again.

The other midwives appear in the story but more as secondary characters. This book could be a stand alone book although it would be easier if you read a the other books in the series so you know their backstory.

Having read the 3 previous Cornish Midwife books I was delighted to see this one available. It was lovely to be back amongst the Port Agnes midwives - they feel like old friends now. This time our story focuses on Jess, who, unable to have children of her own has decided to foster. And then one morning there's a surprise at her front door!

A lovely, gentle read and I hope we can visit Port Agnes again one day soon.

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. Having loved the previous books in this series, I was excited to read this one. It did not disappoint. This was an easy read and I was invested in the characters and the heartwarming storylines.

This is the only book I have read in the series and it stood alone fine. Overall, I enjoyed the story and characters, but it felt a bit repetitive, so dragged some. Fine read, but not so good that I will seek out the others in the series.

Once again, Jo Bartlett manages to create another story mainly focusing on a different midwife each time from the Port Agnes Midwifery Unit but still manages to keep going with the other stories.

The way Jo has written this series and the likeable characters it feels as if we are catching up on a friends lives I feel that invested.

This was such a relatable read to me in so many ways. It was very heartwarming and heartbreaking to see how this story unfolded and I was hooked from the first page.

Midwife Jess knows she’ll never have a baby of her own, but she’s determined to still be a mum. So Jess decides to foster, providing love and support for children who desperately need it – something Jess never had as a child when she was in foster care.

Jess loves caring for the precious babies who come into her life, but letting them go again breaks her heart every time - can she really be a mum after all?

But then Jess finds a surprise on her doorstep – a newborn baby! As the search for the missing mum begins, Jess cares for the precious babe day and night. She desperately wants to reunite mum and baby, but knows that when the day comes, her own heart will shatter.

This is book 4 from the Cornish midwife series. This is the only book I’ve read from the series and from this author but I didn’t feel lost reading this book.

The story felt independent, I imagine from reading the other books in the series you learn more about Jess and the other midwives but just from this one book I felt I knew and understood Jess and felt the passion she has and her colleagues.

I did find the book a tad too long and a little repetitive, I did skim read a good couple of chapters near the end of the book as it seemed to really go slow near the end. I was literally eye rolling at Jess at around the half way point and began to find her character a bit mopey which was a shame as I really enjoyed her character at the beginning of the book and again at the end.

Overall this is a nice read with a great description of Cornwall, midwifery, adoption, heartbreak, love and loss.

Wow this was another amazing read in the Cornish midwife series and I was so excited to be able to read it that once I had picked it up I couldn’t put it down and read it in almost one sitting. This is the fourth book in the series and was fabulous to be able to be transported on a journey of escapism back to port Agnes. These books really get to your heart and are such heartbreaking yet heartwarming reads all rolled into one.

I loved that this one explored the character of Jess further and her chance of becoming a foster parent and how it followed her developing relationship with dexter the social worker who helped her to fulfil her dream of being able to look after a child and the heart wrenching journey and steps she has to take to be able to carry this out and how it helps to strengthen the bond between these two characters I can’t wait to here more about how the relationship between these two characters develops and hope their story is continued in the next novel of this series. We are also introduced to Anna twins one of the other midwifes in the team and also find out more about tori’s developing pregnancy and Frankie reappears back from New Zealand the bond of these amazing midwifes continues to be strengthened through the challenges and Events they face on a daily basis and the community spirit continues to be ever present. These stories are perfect escapism reads yet at the same time are very realistic and cut to the core with their engaging and relatable story lines.

What a lovely book which really made me think. It had sad parts but that’s life I suppose. A really good book that is well written. Well done.

A proper Heartbreaker.
Jess Kennedy of the Port Agnes Midwifery unit lives at Puffins Rest with her cat Luna and it's a busy full on day in the anti-natal clinic, as she is now a foster carer. Social workers are giving her her first placement soon in respite fostering to work around her midwife hours, an unexpected visitor is awaiting her on her doorstep and its isn't Luna her cat. Jess is going to be needing all the love and support she can get from her co-workers and also social worker Dexter who has Riley in his care now. She takes up permanent care of baby Teddy till they find his mother, it will be hard to adjust around her work and this tiny little baby but as time goes on she is terrified of the day when she will say goodbye to him.
Oh this book is so heart-wrenching to read, the bond is so powerful and the outcome of who are his parents is a complete shock to her, I could not put this book down once I picked it up I enjoyed all the other books in this series but this has to be my favourite and awaiting more I hope to come.

An other amazing story about our favourite midwive team . This is the story of Jess who has become foster and one day she finds on the doorstep an infant . She falls in love with the baby boy at first sight . While she believes that the baby is one of her patient at the clinic she discover the real parents of the baby and is a shock for her . In all her journey to fostering she has by her side Dexter the social worker who helped her . He is an amazing character and I love the way he encourage her . We finally meet Annas twins . I hope the next story is about Izzy .
