This is my second book by Rachel Hawkins. I just don’t have a love for the writing though.
I kept hoping for the book to grow on me but sadly it did not.

I received an audio of The Reckless Girls from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange of a honest review..

I gave The Reckless Girl it’s only star because it had a beautiful cover. This book is preposterous. It’s neither a thriller or a fun beach read. Maybe a cool drink on a sandy beach with a gentle breeze would be better than reading this book. Just not on Meroe Island.

Meroe Island has all sorts of bad vibes, but Lux and her boyfriend Nico decide to take two Hawaii tourists on an adventurous trip there. The foursome decides to party with another couple visiting the island, when a seventh stranger — and a grungy, sketchy one at that — crashes their party and Lux is reminded that she truly can’t trust anyone on this island and there’s no one who will be able to help her escape should she need to.

This one has resided on my TBR — mostly because I knew I wanted to take it on this trip but also because I’ve heard mixed reviews. Overall I thought it was ok — it’s one of the ones where you just have to accept that all the decisions made are going to be stupid and you have to hold yourself back from screaming, “well you’re the one who went to a remote dangerous island with strangers!!? What did you think would happen !?”

I do love an atmospheric thriller though so definitely would recommend a read if you’re still trying to ride the last ~wave~ of summer!

“Reckless Girls” by Rachel Hawkins was a wild ride and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Definitely recommended!

I am a big fan of Rachel Hawkins, and this book did not disappoint. The descriptions of the island were amazing, and I found myself wanting to visit—if it weren’t for the fact that the island is also incredibly creepy with a very sordid past. A must read for me!

This was my first, but certainly not last Rachel Hawkins book. I really enjoyed the story line and the twists and turns. The narration was well done. I loved the remote setting.
Thanks to NetGalley for the audio eARC.

A fun twist on a classic - just like Hawkins' previous entry, The Wife Upstairs. Six young people sail off to a deserted island with a shady and mysterious past. Quickly, they realize that there is more to the island - and one another - than meets the eye. A long, drawn out suspense read that takes a rather intense and crazy turn at the end. None of the characters are likeable, and it's hard to root for them to make it out alive, but the end is definitely a twist you won't see coming.

There is not much that I have found about Rachel Hawkins writing that I don't love. So it came as no surprise to me that I absolutely adored Reckless Girls! I am actually quite behind on my reviews and I can still VIVIDLY remember reading this book and what it was about from back in January (it is now July)! It left that much of an impression on me!

I think one of the things that I loved the most about this book was the setting and story were so different from your every day, run-of-the-mill mystery novel. Again, that's exactly what I love about Rachel Hawkins! She sets herself apart from everyone else and their writing with unique characters, plots, and settings!

Parts of the story were slightly unrealistic, but to me, that's not that big of a deal because in my eyes, I'm reading fiction to begin with so I don't expect every aspect of a book that I'm reading to be or feel factual! Some parts had me shaking my head like, No No No, but other than that, it didn't seem to distract me from what I was reading.

I felt like Hawkins really delved in and provided complex and interesting characters. There were quite a few important characters, but they weren't hard to keep track of who was who and who was doing what, which I really appreciate in a book!

Reckless Girls was narrated by Barrie Kreinik and I felt like she did a fabulous job! This was my first time listening to a title narrated by her, but I wouldn't hesitate to listen to another title from her.

Overall, as it was no surprise to me, I was thoroughly impressed with this book and super stoked that I got to read it! As is the usual case, I can't wait for the next book written by Rachel Hawkins!!

I would like to offer a HUGE THANK YOU to Rachel Hawkins, Macmillan Audio, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of Reckless Girls, which has allowed me to contribute this honest and unbiased review.

This great story never stops. It keeps you guessing every step of the way. The ending keeps you interested until the very last page. Great beach read

Although Reckless Girls has a different vibe from The Wife Upstairs, what both have in common is that they keep you guessing the whole time. I enjoyed the the plot wasn't predictable and loved the narration. I wasn't very attached to the characters and felt some impatience with Lux's insecurity. Overall, a fun thriller and a great narration.

I gave this book 4/5 stars.

The story was a bit slow at the beginning and I truly didn't care too much about the main couples past. I just wanted to get to the island and see what happens. And the author did not disappoint.

One of my favorite books ever is Island by Richard Laymon. While this story wasn't 'horror' it still made me think of that book. I just think everyone who ended up on that island was insane on some levels so it was bound to end up being a good(or bad) time.

I received an advanced reading copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This thriller was a fun read, one that I should not have read immediately before going deep into the woods to camp for four days. The characters are developed well, the pace is good, and the plot is enjoyable. I did also enjoy the narrator.

I loved this thriller. I’ve read the wife upstairs last year and enjoyed it more than this one. This was still fun and following these characters was interesting. There was a very eerie feeling in this book and I enjoyed the ending! The audiobook was well done!

This book has all of the elements of a thrilling adventure story—mystery, danger, and romance.

It's a complete departure in story line from Rachel Hawkins' previous novel, "The Wife Upstairs", but contains the same twists and turns that keep the tension high and you trying to figure out what's really going on until the end.

In short, the characters are interesting, the plot and setting offer a nice "change of scenery" from domestic thrillers, and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a not-too-heavy but still exciting read/listen.

I was provided an advance copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book up until the ending. I felt like the ending was out of character for many of the characters in the book.

Barrie Kreinuk is a one man show. He delivers in a big way. Adding layers upon layers of depth to these characters. Reckless Girls kept me on the edge of my seat. From Hawaii to Meroe Island I felt the minutes ticking down. What a crazy adventure! Reckless Girls felt to me like reading a few intersecting stories that come together brilliantly.

Rachel Hawkins is an auto buy for me. Highly recommend all her books or audio recordings. Go in blind and enjoy the ride.

I enjoyed this book, but I had a hard time empathizing with the main character when she was upset with her boyfriend. I wanted her to grow a backbone. Ended up with a satisfying ending though so it was worth it!

I'm just going to be honest. This was one of my most anticipated reads, but it ended up being a DNF for me. I meant to pick it back up, but I haven't had the urge to at all. If I do, I'll update this later, but for now, I don't feel comfortable leaving an official review.

I was so excited for this title after liking the author's previous book "The Wife Upstairs". My expectations were another retelling of a classic story but it is not. It is a story of mostly entitled 20 year olds and the results of their recklessness. Hence the title I suppose. The story is a locked room mystery with a touch of gothic suspense. Not a wild thriller but still a good story.

'The character Lux is the narrator and she goes through the experience of taking care of her ailing mom until her death then is left without resources to go back to college. As many stories go, she becomes a waitress to pay the bills. In walks Nico who exudes charisma and sweeps her off to Maui where they meet with some tough times that leads Lux to taking care of bills while Nico is his old self "fixing the boat" and basically doing what he wants. They meet with two colleges aged besties who pay for the boat repairs and bond with Lux so they sail off to a isolated island for the adventure. Add in one mysterious stranger and the adventure begins.

Hats off to the narrator Barrie Kreinik. The ability to make these characters come alive is a terrific asset to this book. I liked the book but did not love the book.

Thanks to the publisher Macmillan Audio, and the author for a chance to read this book through #netgalley and to give my honest review
