I'm just going to be honest. This was one of my most anticipated reads, but it ended up being a DNF for me. I meant to pick it back up, but I haven't had the urge to at all. If I do, I'll update this later, but for now, I don't feel comfortable leaving an official review.

I was so excited for this title after liking the author's previous book "The Wife Upstairs". My expectations were another retelling of a classic story but it is not. It is a story of mostly entitled 20 year olds and the results of their recklessness. Hence the title I suppose. The story is a locked room mystery with a touch of gothic suspense. Not a wild thriller but still a good story.
'The character Lux is the narrator and she goes through the experience of taking care of her ailing mom until her death then is left without resources to go back to college. As many stories go, she becomes a waitress to pay the bills. In walks Nico who exudes charisma and sweeps her off to Maui where they meet with some tough times that leads Lux to taking care of bills while Nico is his old self "fixing the boat" and basically doing what he wants. They meet with two colleges aged besties who pay for the boat repairs and bond with Lux so they sail off to a isolated island for the adventure. Add in one mysterious stranger and the adventure begins.
Hats off to the narrator Barrie Kreinik. The ability to make these characters come alive is a terrific asset to this book. I liked the book but did not love the book.
Thanks to the publisher Macmillan Audio, and the author for a chance to read this book through #netgalley and to give my honest review

This book was archived before I had time to read it, so I am not able to give accurate feedback. Thank you for the opportunity, sorry I was unable to get to it in time.

The narration on this was fantastic but the overall plot left me wanting more. A bit predictable yet still entertaining enough to finish. 3.5 stars but not enough to fully tilt this one into 4.

I absolutely loved this book. I swapped between the audiobook and ebook because it was so suspenseful. I instantly told a friend to read the book, then recently recommended it to my book club. When I saw it at Costco the other week, I said to my husband who didn’t care, “hey I read this book! It was so good!”

I read THE WIFE UPSTAIRS on audio when it came out in 2021, and I was so happy to be able to read RECKLESS GIRLS in the same format. This is a fast-paced thriller that makes for a great pool-side or beach read. I'll definitely be picking up Hawkins' next thriller in the future!

Fun story of murder and intrigue on the beach. The story slowly reveals itself with a wonder surprise ending. I love the twists and turns this story took

Wow. I loved this book. Some of the ‘letters’ included didn’t make a lot of sense for the story but most did. I’m curious to know what was the lump inside a building.
2 friends want to go to an island that was used in WWII and possibly haunted. They hire a boat that’s manned by the lead characters bf. Then they boat out to paradise for 2 weeks. What could possibly go wrong?
I was hooked from the beginning. I kept wanting to read to find out what secrets everyone might have. I was nearly late to work because I couldn’t stop reading it.

I started this one, and really didn't like the main character, I wanted her to grow a backbone. It seemed a little silly to me so I didn't end up finishing it.

3 stars. The book was fun and enjoyable. It took awhile for the action to get started but overall it was a good mystery. It wasn't the most original but was a good pallet cleanse and a fun read.

This book was really good, It gave major Lucy Foley vibes. Very similar writing style and similar to Foleys book called The Guest list. I thoroughly enjoyed reading/listening to this audiobook, the narration was really good and there were so many plot twist I enjoyed ! Honestly there are so many good parts in this book I can’t choose which one to talk about ! Honestly just read book and you will understand my enthusiasm !
Only part that I didn’t like and skipped were the spicy 🌶 parts but there were only like 3 . So it could have been worse .
🤔Age recommendation: 16+

An atmospheric, fast-paced thriller with plenty of twists and turns! The ending felt a bit rushed, and left me with a couple of unanswered questions, but nothing that really detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book. Barrie Kreinik does a fantastic job with the narration, especially the various accents!!

WOW!!!!! I had heard so many great things about this book and it did not disappoint. Such a great read full of twist.

Reckless Girls is the first Rachel Hawkins novel I’ve read, and I’m interested to see if her others follow this one-dimensional premise, or if the other has a bit more depth.
Initially I was drawn in by the cover, and honestly, it might be the Netgalley tinny sound that distorted my enjoyment, but overall it’s a fast-paced thriller that would probably make a decent Netflix or Hulu series.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the audio copy of this one. As with all the audiobooks on here there is a bit of a tinny sound that is annoying and for that I will knock a star off my rating of this book.
This was an interesting premise- a girl and her boyfriend going on a trip to a deserted island and picking up some travel companions along the way. What will happen on the creepy island? Will everyone survive?
Ultimately this was just an okay story for me. If I had read it I may have had a hard time finishing it. There were some shocking events but it wasn't that exciting of a story.

I really enjoyed the narration of this audio book! The story flowed well, and the different accents made it that much more enjoyable! The narrator's voice was also very pleasant to listen to!
The book itself I really enjoyed. I had no clue where the story was going and was shocked at the twist at the end. I enjoyed the various flashbacks that gave a little history of the female characters, and how they tied into the overall story in the end. Overall, this was such a fun and enjoyable read, and I can't wait to pick up another book by this author!

After reading The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins, I was excited to read Reckless Girls. I was even more excited after seeing the cover. But after reading the novel, I was left disappointed and confused.
Reading Reckless Girls was a lot like watching a badly made-for-TV movie that you can't stop watching. The characters were one-dimensional and made predictable bad decisions.
The book was fast-paced but lacked exciting plot twists and multi-layered storylines. In fact, instead of a concise storyline, Reckless Girls was riddled with plot holes that I could not ignore. The ending was cliche, and I could see it coming long before the book's final chapters.
Reckless Girls is a quick and semi-entertaining read, even with the predictability and horrible characters. I would give Reckless Girls a solid three stars out of five because the book did keep me engaged.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

WOW! Couldn’t put this book down. I just finished reading it. If you like islands, ocean and suspense you will love this book!

You won't be able to stop listening to this book! You'll want to know what happens next! Fun listen!

This was an interesting premise, but I didn't find it quite as unputdownable as The Wife Upstairs. The island vibe and the dysfunctional cast of characters kept things interesting, but maybe they were a bit too dysfunctional. I didn't feel invested in what happened to any of them. For me, it was enjoyable enough to say it was time well spent. Good, but probably not going to be one of my favorite books of the year.
*Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced reader's copy.
