My 6 year old really enjoyed Scaredy Squirrel Gets a Surprise! As an anxious kid, I like making sure he read books that give him more perspective outside of his fears and anxieties. Would definitely recommend.

It was an okay book, but I'm not really a fan of having or introducing the idea of horoscopes for young children. I normally like Scaredy Squirrel books, so this was a little bit disappointing. My 4 year old son liked it, but had many questions about horoscopes.

A funny second graphic novel. The style looks a little like non-fiction, a little like a graphic novel. Fans of the picture books will love to read these with their little ones. This is good for fans of series like Narwhal and Jelly. I think the reading level is a little higher.

Scaredy Squirrel gets a surprise, and what oh my is that surprise?
In this book, beloved Scaredy Squirrel is delivered a surprise parcel and readers get to follow along as he tries to send it back. afraid it contains something awfully frightening!

The story is fantastically laid out making it intriguing, with so many different page styles and images throughout the book, it is bound to keep readers hooked! Because we are curious beings we want to know what is in the box! Is it a good surprise or a bad surprise? Will readers agree with Scaredy's determination of the surprise? or will he succeed in sending back, therefore, quelling any need for fearing the unknown?

I cannot wait to get my hand on this so I can read it with my students and get their feedback as we read along and they find out...

Scaredy Squirrel’s back, in new a Nutty Adventure: He decides it’s a good day to read while sitting in his tree. (It’s always a good day to read, Scaredy.)

Then, a mysterious crate arrives. When Scaredy investigates, he worries it might be something terrible, but three of his friends show up to help him deal with the surprise, and then they all get to enjoy it together.

It’s so great that Scaredy has returned! I loved reading stories about the ultra-cautious squirrel with my child years ago, and it’s good to see that Scaredy hasn’t lost his charm in this new book. Scaredy is still very, very cautious approaching anything new, but learns, with his friends’ support and through investigation and analysis, that there’s nothing to fear about this new experience. Melanie Watt, and Scaredy, thereby also reassure any anxious children dealing with new things.

I look forward to accompanying Scaredy, and his friends, on his new adventures.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Penguin Random House Canada and Tundra Books for this ARC in exchange for my review.

. . . 𝕂𝕚𝕕𝕤 𝔽𝕖𝕒𝕥𝕦𝕣𝕖 !
This was the first children’s book that we’ve requested on Net Galley, but who could resist Scaredy Squirrel?! We’ve enjoyed many of Watt’s books, but the Scaredy Squirrel series is amongst our favourite. Between the cheeky humour, the normalization of anxieties, and the bright illustrations, there’s lots to like.

This is the second in her series of longer graphic novels featuring Scaredy and friends, and we will continue to follow on this lovable & nutty squirrel's adventures.

Well this was a happy little book with lots of loveable characters. I read this with my 4 year old who found many opportunities for a laugh. Melanie Watt always delivers with Scaredy Squirrel. Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the e-ARC version of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was super cute. I liked that this graphic novel is longer than her other ones. The younger students who are just beginning to show interest in graphic novels will enjoy this one and it will help them gain confidence with their reading. Absolutely loved it!

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Melanie Watt's Scaredy Squirrel series will never disappoint. The story is so consistently good, funny and so much little details. In this story, our lovable, paranoid little squirrel receives a crate and all breaks loose. My daughter learned about horoscopes from this book and she said her favourite parts are all the lists, and how all the objects have two words descriptions that start with "will" (will poke, will cause algae etc.), she thought it was hilarious. We both loved this new book.

Scardey Squirrel is once again full of anxiety and fear in this second book in the new graphic novel series by Mélanie Watt. He makes it clear that he is not a fan of surprises but rather likes to be in control of what's happening at all times.

He discovers a huge mysterious crate outside his tree home and he cautiously needs to seek out its content. He finds out that it's a pool and once again Scaredy's imagination takes over as he envisions perhaps it may contain sharks, eels, and algae! Oh my!

His friends Ivy, Timber, and Rash finally convince Scaredy that all his fretting and inward turmoil can be counter-productive. They encourage him to let those feelings go, relax, and just have some good old-fashion fun with his friends! Will Scaredy take their advice and allow himself to enjoy all the benefits and happy adventures that the new pool is able to provide for himself and everyone else?

The author does a stunning job of creating detailed illustrations and penning playful humour scenarios throughout the book. The comic book/ graphic novel format will be a hit with kids and the characters involved are adorable. Scaredy learns a very valuable life lesson... that it's okay to step out and try something new. I love the book and recommend it for classrooms and elementary school libraries. Both young and old will be delighted with the book and I am looking forward to book #3 in this series.

Not my first Scaredy and Ivy adventure and definitely not my last. Love the graphics and wacky humour.
This series does make hyper-cautious children be less scared and more relaxed about all manners of things that seem frightening - great fun AND educational!

I love all the characters in this funny and adorable book! The colour palette and illustrations are cute, and I find myself giggling at them. I can imagine how engaging this would be with its fun questions. I'll gift this to my fave children!

I love Scaredy Squirrel books and so do the students in my class. I see this is an early chapter book/graphic novel and the age range stated is 6-9 years, which is perfect. The humor is sophisticated enough to appeal to older readers and there are some scientific facts in there as well.

I think this book would work well as a read-aloud for a grade 1-2 class or as an independent reader for the same age group. There are lots of things to discuss and the crazy ideas Scaredy has about what might be in the crate would really appeal to that age group. I can see lots of learning opportunities that would present themselves from this little book. Highly recommended!

ARC Copy...never fear it's another hilarious adventure with Scaredy Squirrel where Scaredy has "alot" fear and worry. Along side an important lesson in just being "enough" worried about surprises.

Scaredy has some very patient and understanding friends! I love the security checklist at the beginning of the book, an analog robot test. I loved the ending of this book because it shows that Scaredy is getting better at trusting his friends will keep him safe.

All in all a fun book.

Love the graphic novel format for this longer Scaredy Squirrel story! Great visual and word humour on so many levels, making it appealing to adults and kids of all ages and making the reader come back time and again.

Oh, I so love Scaredy Squirrel.
This is a fairly ridiculous book, as are most by Melanie Watt. The horoscopes were cute, as were the penguins. I always enjoy the illustrations, and the angry eyebrows.
Definitely a fun read.

Scaredy Squirrel is still cute and still scared of most things but this story was really long. It started to get tiresome and could have had the same message in a shorter timeframe.

We love Scardey Squirrel in our house it’s brilliant for adults and children in every way and this new adventure is no exception.

A brilliantly funny look at the life of a squirrel who is slightly over cautious and a little too keen on risk assessments.

This book had me laughing out loud the whole way through. The comic book style makes it engaging and it is full of little details that you notice each time you read.
