One Elephant Went Out to Play is another song that my children and I used to sing together when they were young and we were huge fans of the Elephant Show starring Sharon, Lois and Bram. This book was written by Sharon's daughter, Randi Hampson and it changed it a bit adding a variety of jungle animals and children from different ethnicities and abilities. It is also a counting song, but they do add five monkeys in one fell swoop. Once the Smiley Snake arrives and there are ten animals, everyone is invited in to party. How strong is the spider web they are playing on? Will all of these animals and children cause the web to collapse? Read this book to find out. My grandkids enjoyed this book and especially loved the illustrations by Qin Leng. I tried to get them to sing with me, but the words didn't have the same repetition as Skinnamarink, so was not as easy, but with a couple more rereads, they will get it. We did enjoy this story and I was happy to bring something from their Dad's history to them so we could all enjoy it together. I know we will enjoy this book again.

Sharon, Lois and Bram’s One Elephant Went Out to Play picture book gave me all the nostalgic feels. This was the theme song to my childhood. I loved Sharon, Lois and Bram and this book will totally be a staple.

Overview of the story:
Sharon, Lois and Bram invite readers to join them in a musical story about a magical spider web. Jungle animals and kids in costume join in the fun on the web, including a glamorous giraffe, a cranky crocodile, a silly, smiley snake and five monkeys. After the 10th animal is invited onto the web, EVERYONE is invited to the party -- but is the web strong enough?

I really loved the images created and how the song was expanded to help with counting. This is a magical story starting with the elephant on the web, a diverse crowd continues to join in on the fun and joins the spider on his web... one by one. Kids will love the fun and even the breaking of the web brings fun, and the knowledge that the spider will build the web again the next day.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion. Sharon, Lois and Bram's One Elephant Went Out to Play comes out this August 2022.

When Skinnamarink was released, it was my favorite kids book of the year. Its became my go to kids book for baby showers, birthdays and every occasion in-between. Now this delightful gem! I could not love it more! The pictures, the nostalgic goodness. It's perfect from beginning to end.

As a child I was a huge fan of Sharon, Lois, and Bram and I adored seeing one of their songs brought to life in this book. The illustrations are beautiful and have lots of fun details that will make this book a fun one to read over and over again. Lots of great animal and children illustrations, and numbers to practise counting. I really enjoyed this one and think it's a great read whether or not you grew up singing this song.

Not only are my children big fans of the Skinnamarink book, I am a late-80s baby who grew up watching Sharon, Lois, and Bram.. so I was very excited to be selected for this book to review! The illustrations, much like the first book, are absolutely stunning! My 3 year old adored the rhyming sing-song text - we will absolutely be buying this book, and recommending it to others.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for an ARC!

My childhood! I remember growing up with Canadian tv and watching the Sharon, Lois and Bram show. Much like Skinamarink, this is a blast from my past that I’ll be very happy to relive again and again. I can’t wait to recommend this to my customers, put my staff pick on it and sell as many as I can. Thank you so much for giving me access to this title. Can I put more than 5 stars???

This was so much fun (much like the original song).

I really enjoyed the artwork - I like the feel of it, it matches the tone of the song so well.

I also really enjoyed how the pictures were inclusive without the story being *about* inclusivity. We need more of this!!

This is a delightful counting book from the creators of Skinnamarink. These icon childrens' entertainers have made another winning contribution to the picture-book world that kids will love.

"One elephant went out to play upon a spider's web one day.
She had such enormous fun, that she called for her baby elephant to come."

This imaginative book spun from the talented trio's songbook is mesmerizing. A diverse crowd joins the spider on his web... one by one. When number ten climbs aboard everyone is having so much fun that they call for EVERYONE to come play with them. ALL the jungle friends respond and climb aboard to have a blast. Oh my! Is that a good idea? How strong is that spider web anyway?

"Uh-Oh! SPLASH!"

Kids will not be disappointed because the mishap turns into a celebration with EVERYONE invited to a party after the spider spins his magic and rebuilds his web once again!

The whimsical illustrations are extraordinary. They are full of action, happiness and delicious detail. Kids will go back again and again to enjoy this fun book. I highly recommend "Sharon, Lois and Bram's One Elephant Went Out to Play!"

Ah, the nostalgia. Growing up in the '80s in Canada, we got our fill of Sharon, Lois & Bram. I remember this particular song well. So well, in fact, that I kept remembering the original words as I was reading the book. No matter. This is a lovely picture-book adaptation of one of the trio's famous songs, charmingly illustrated by Qin Leng. Sharon, Lois, Bram, and a diverse group of friends (including an elephant) take a walk through a jungle. They meet a friendly spider who spins a curiously strong web and then invites all her new friends to play in it. Things are going great, and the spider dutifully counts each new playmate as they're added (five monkeys get added at once, so the book isn't too long), but then... there's just one new friend too many. But it's all good; even failure is fun here, and there's a promise of more play to come.

The illustrations are really cute, and show a great variety of kids. There's even a child in a wheelchair who somehow manages to join everyone else in the web (hey, it's fiction). The sense of fun and play is really on display here.

Adult fans of Sharon, Lois & Bram will probably love this, especially since it's a potentially great introduction to the trio for their own kids (or grandkids). Also be sure to check out Sharon, Lois & Bram's Skinnamarink, which came out in 2019; it's based on another of their songs, expanded for the purposes of the picture book, and also completely adorable.

Warm childhood memories will be created and recreated in another thoroughly joyous book by Sharon, Lois, and Bram. "One Elephant Went Out to Play" immediately awoke feelings of childhood nostalgia for me, having enjoyed 'The Elephant Show' in the 80's. Creatively, Randi Hampson has adapted this book from the tv show's original song, extending this version to include a jungle of a group that will have readers giggling along. Recalling the tune from memory, I sang through the story to my children and they were singing along with me before we were through. This rhyming adventure can also be enjoyed by readers with their own tune, or no tune at all. It was wonderful to see Qin Leng's friendly illustrations again, combining colorful numbers and animal friends as unique as we all are. My children and I will continue to enjoy the lovingly fun, sing-song-story that is "One Elephant Went Out to Play".

ARC Copy... I am very happy to review this in particular. The Trio and Elephant were one of the first tv shows I watched both as a young kid and new immigrant to Canada in the late 80s. I still very much remember many years. Even the picture's story context-approach is little bit different from the original theme song...still feels like a wondrous delight to read through and the illustrations help too!

Sharon, Lois and Bram's One Elephant Went Out to Play is a children's counting and rhyming book based on the trio's song and poem One Elephant Went Out to Play, and the children's television show...THE ELEPHANT SHOW.

Told in ABAB rhyming scheme, each numerical ordered stanza begins with same opening sentence, with only the 'number' and 'animal' changing....the animal playing on the 'spider web'. The images are colorful and fun.

The book brought back memories of my children's earlier years, watching Sharon Lois and Bram on The Elephant Show. The skits and songs were fun, easy and often accompanied by dance. The book represents 44 years of children's entertainment.

What a wonderful iteration of one of my personal childhood favourites. Growing up with Sharon, Louis, and Bram meant that I was more than excited about introducing this tale to my own children. Full of beautiful images and new lyrics that encourage counting for kids and induce memories of childhood for the adult reader. A wonderful addition to any family or classroom library.

This book is my childhood! I loved Sharon, Lois, Bram's shows and I loved singing along to this song.

The illustrations were great and I could not read it without singing the lyrics in my head. For anyone that grew up in Canada in the 80's this book will bring back all the memories. If I had a small child (I don't think the 24 yr old would appreciate this book) I would buy this and read (sing) it with them every night.
