Wow, did I love this book. Badass main female characters, a thrilling storyline that keeps you hooked and not wanting to put the book down. And a story that brings what women go through and deal with on a daily basis into light. Huge thanks to the publishers for the advanced copy!

The Change by Kirsten Miller is one of my new favorite books! Strong writing, strong story, but most importantly, strong female characters. These women are #goals.
There are three phases in a woman's life - education, creation, and power. Nessa, Jo, and Harriett are all women who have gone through "the change" and now have enormous gifts - powers that make them strong. But more importantly, all three stop caring what a world run by men thinks of them. These powers and attitudes come in handy as the dead bodies of young girls start showing up in there town, and they team up to bring down some very sinister men.
I seriously loved how each woman evolved in this book. Both Harriett and Jo climbed corporate ladders, aiming to gain the respect of their male colleagues. Nessa thought her life held little meaning after the death of her husband and her daughters had grown. But they each learn how wrong they were when they embrace their powers and reject the "rules." It is liberating and funny and infuriating and delightful all at the same time. The story twists and turns as these women work to bring justice to the murdered girls, all while blowing the doors open on the myth that a woman can survive a man's world by obeying a man's rules. I flew through this book and already can't wait to read it again.
Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC!

The Change is the book I have enjoyed the most this year-so far- easily. It is just witchy, feminist, fun. I would have read another four hundred pages about Harriet, Jo, and Nessa. Even though I knew how everything would work out, I could not stop turning the pages. The detailed description of their Long Island town’s is full to the point I can believe this is a place that exists. The awful experiences that unite all of the women in this book are unbelievably authentic. This book is so smart and well-written, that even when you are sure of what is going to happen, you care so much about the how that you keep going.
Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for the ARC!

Missed the mark.
3 feminists set out to use their supernatural powers to solve a crime in their seaside town. Starts out great and then veers into sidestories, side characters and plenty of man hating which was as overdone as parents' steaks.

I started this book exactly when I needed an angry feminist book about avenging wrongs against women. Nessa is able to see ghosts, Harriet is a green witch, and Jo feels the fire of women's rage (literally). While the book revolves around these women's magic the issues the book addresses are very real.
There appears to be a serial killer murdering teen girls right outside of an upscale (think billionaires) community. However, there's no one looking for these girls or for justice until Nessa hears them calling. This novel addresses the very real world problems women and girls face all the time from harassment, gaslighting, being passed over for promotions, having ideas stolen, work passed off as someone else's, to assault and murder.
I enjoyed how this story wove magic through realistic story lines and allowed for women to rely on other women. It showed the power of men and money, but also shined a light on how strong and powerful women can be when given the opportunity or motivation to do so. This book makes you root for these three women even when they make questionable decisions and have you wondering who's side they might be on.

This exceptional book couldn’t have come at a better time. Our three female main characters are changing, growing into their powerful true selves. They use these new found powers to hunt a killer.
Kirsten Miller writes about women as they truly are and as they should be seen - as powerful, funny, beautiful, intuitive keepers of balance and life.
This book is a light in a dark time for women and for that I am so grateful! ♡︎♡︎
Thank you Netgalley and William Morrow for an advanced copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I love the cover I thought it was very interesting and eye catching but after reading it I love it so much more now knowing how it ties in with the story. This book was amazing! I loved Nessa, Jo, and Harriet the bond they formed and the transformations they all went through while trying to find out who murdered the girls made for a great read. Will definitely read this one again soon.

This was such a fun read!! A witchy revenge thriller about three women who discover they all have special powers in their middle age and need to team up to solve a mystery... and seek vengeance. Can't decide which of the three I liked the most because I liked them all so much. Such a wild ride, pls read this so we can discuss thx!!

OH HELL YES. Women taking down shitty men with their powers? Social commentary? Magic? Revenge? Yes yes yes and YES I suspected I would love this one AND I DID.
This easily going to be one of my favorite books of the year. It was a fantastic mystery/thriller that has all the elements of fantasy/magical realism/powers that I love. This book just blends so many genres together so seamlessly.
The characters, the empowerment, the friendships, the premise, the investigation, the dialogue, the flow, the twists are all *chefs kiss.* The way our three main characters use their powers combined is just amaziiiiiiing.
The only thing I wish is that the book was shorter, but it really doesn’t change my rating at all because I enjoyed every second of it.
Read this. Or don’t - but you’d be missing out.
5 stars, duhhh.

The Change has a sweet revenge story that I have always been a sucker for. Three middle aged women are brought together by the powers they’ve been given to find , protect, and avenge lost women. Nessa inherited her family’s gift for hearing the cries of the murdered and being able to find their bodies. Jo is super strong and her hot flashes can burn literally. Harriet has a green thumb and the power to unleash revenge from the botany world. They uncover a string of murders in their small town and bring about justice the only way they know how. Rich characters and a twisted plot make for an unputtdownable thriller that left this girl longing for more vigilante justice. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.

This book far exceeded my expectations! It’s so full of anger and fury and I loved every second of it. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. I requested the copy because it was a book club pick on Instagram. I had pretty low expectations going into it. I’m a huge fantasy fan and really enjoy books about witches, especially those where they are fighting the patriarchy and righting wrongs against women. I have also come to love books about women finding their power in midlife. But the blurb for this book left me wanting and not prepared for how amazing this story truly was.
I am absolutely in love with Harriett’s character above all others, I’ve never wanted the ability to just lay around naked in my garden smoking pot more than I did after reading this book. I love all three main characters but she is by far my favorite. I was put off by all the side stories of each woman in the book at first, but as things started to come together I appreciated how every woman in the story was represented. The twists and turns and ultimate resolution of this story really are spectacular. This is definitely a story for all women, but especially those who know what it’s like to struggle in a man’s world. It deserves ALL the stars!

I've been seeing The Change all over Bookstagram and Goodreads and the reviews are outstanding! After hearing multiple readers say they could not put this one down, I jumped at the chance to read an ARC. I'm always in the mood for a twisty thriller and why not spice things up with the addition of a little magical realism?
Sadly, I didn't love The Change. The story was fine, but I didn't need 480 pages of it. It was very repetitive at times and I got bored quickly. Also, I'm no grammar expert so if I'm finding typos and missing words pretty frequently it's usually a bad sign. Hopefully a lot of these errors were fixed by the time the book was released.
The snark was fun and the characters were definitely unique. Maybe if I hadn't been expecting an "unputdownable thriller" I could have enjoyed this more but ultimately it wasn't for me.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book; all opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for allowing me to be an early reader.

This was a tale of two books for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the supernatural powers the main characters had, but the “all men are evil” aspect of the book was off-putting to me. There were a couple of decent men in the book, but, by and large, the rest were evil. Although the mystery intrigued me I almost put it down a few times. But that may not bother all, so if you can ignore that and just enjoy the story, give it a try!

I read this on kindle, and think I would have fared better with a physical book. It's 480 pages, and books over a certain length feel draggy even when I enjoy them when I read them on kindle.
Plainly, I like this book. Strong women who are no longer shying away from who they are and who are not afraid of their anger. Harriett in particular was an excellent character. I figured out what was going on very early, but that did not stop me from enjoying it and it shouldn't stop anyone from enjoying it.
Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book so much that I was only about a third of the way through and hoping for a sequel. Kirsten Miller's "The Change" was full of strong, quirky, interesting characters, whose complexity had me completely enthralled. I loved Harriett, Nessa, and Jo like they were old friends. "The Change" was an impactful look at how money and power can do so much damage in the wrong hands, and how we all have feelings of helplessness that we need to work to overcome.
I truly thought this was a fantastic read!

I was recommending this book to others before I had finished reading it, really I was only halfway through it! Equal parts mystery, fantasy, magical realism, this was a wild ride! Three very different women unite to solve a mystery when a young girl is found dead near a remote beach. The powerful residents of the oceanside community have no idea what they're in for. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for female empowerment!

This was a pretty badass book. The way it was written was thought out well. The main characters were memorable. I really do enjoy books with magical realism, couldn't put it down.

Three women with powers. Strength, Retribution, Hearing the Dead. And midlife is the perfect time to reinvent themselves-and help the helpless along the way.
As a late 50s woman I could not love this more. It’s not too late to make a difference-amd show your inner witch sometimes. Read this book.

If you like witchcraft, female friendships and revenge, then you’ll love this! The mystery is a good one with a satisfying ending and I loved the character of Harriett. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy. This is a fast-read and well-written. Very enjoyable! 4.5 stars!

This book is so different from what I’ve been reading lately, and I really enjoyed the mix of feminism, fantasy, and revenge that was seamlessly blended together.
Three women living in the oceanfront community of Mattauk are experiencing big life changes. One woman hears voices and sees ghosts, another is growing a garden that could ultimately kill everyone in the neighborhood, and yet another is able to channel her hormonal rage and hot flashes into a useful weapon. But these three women come together for one purpose: to find out who has been murdering young women in their small town and to take matters into their own hands.
Nessa, Harriet, and Jo were fantastic characters and each unique in that they were all experiencing different midlife crises, and yet they rose above and used their less than perfect situations to their advantage. They all had one common goal, and though they went about it in an unconventional way, it shined a light on the strength of these women and how far they would go to protect other young women.
Definitely recommending this one!
