Oh My! What a well crafted mystery! I loved the slow burn. I loved how Hill casually tossed out reveals starting at about 50% and then kept the flow of the story moving. These were little reveals that seemed like a major turning point, but the story just kept moving in a straight forward direction at the same pace! Absolute genius! I was flipping pages like we were in a San Francisco car race and the author was continuing to add plot points!

The characters were well defined, even if deceptive. All the various mysteries in this convoluted story were nicely resolved by the end.

This is my first book by Edwin Hill but it certainly won’t be my last!

This ARC was provided for me by NetGalley and the publisher, Kensignton Books, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This was most enjoyable. 5* all the way!

Two sisters try to solve a mystery…what really happened to their father? Family dynamics abound in this book as the sisters work together and apart to discover what happened…mystery and intrigue…this book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley. Moves somewhat slowly…

This was one scary read! The sort of two sisters embroiled in the aftermath of their father’s suspicious death, they are in it far beyond their wildest imagination. A fascinating book that I stayed up very late for!

A well written suspense novel that has so many twists and turns you can’t and don’t want to stop reading.
When Natalie and Glenn were young their abusive father was murdered and their mother blamed for the crime. Now adults, Natalie a detective and Glenn, an author find themselves unwillingly hurled into the past as another murder is committed. A fast paced interesting plot, this is a mystery/ suspense book you won’t forget anytime soon.

Edwin Hill does it AGAIN.

While not a a Hester Thursby mystery, we do find our favorite librarian sleuth offering her assistance every now and again, and as always, I love it.

In 1995, Natalie Cavanaugh and her sister Glenn Cavanaugh Abbott watched as life as they knew unraveled with the discovery of their father's murder, and suicide of their nextdoor neighbor Diane Sykes.

Flash forward, Natalie is a detective and Glenn is a social media influencer with her own blog and soon to be released cookbook.

Natalie has spent the years burying her grief in work and booze, and Glenn with her daughter, husband, and pursuit of stardom. But, despite their facades, the secrets of the past still haunt them...and when bodies start to pile up...it seems the present is about to dig up the past.

How deep will Lieutenant Angela White have to dig to find out the truth of who really murdered Alan Cavanaugh...and how is his murder linked to the body in the factory and Glenn's deceased husband?

Filled with twists and turns, this title is destined to be a best seller! #LibraryGirl

Edwin Hill is such a talented author and this was well-evidenced in his latest standalone domestic suspense. Two sisters are forced to come to grips with terrible secrets from their past when present day events mirror what happened to them long ago.

I love Hill’s writing and found the plot to be both gripping and entertaining, with lots of unexpected plot twists. Though this is a standalone, there are appearances from characters in Hill’s also excellent Hester Thursby series, which I loved. Hill’s writing keeps getting better and better. Fans of Allen Eskens and Paul Doiron will devour this.

Many thanks to Netgalley, Kensington Books and Edwin Hill for my complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

The secrets and twists in this book kept me up long past my normal bedtime! Already a fan of the author and his Hester Thursby series, I jumped at the chance to ask for an advance copy of this new stand alone from the publisher and NetGalley. It didn’t disappoint. The story unfolds from the point of view of two sisters, Natalie, a Boston detective, her sister Glenn, a baking blogger on the verge of commercial success with a cookbook being published in days, Maeve, Glenn’s daughter, whose resourcefulness made her a standout for me, as well as others. Natalie and Glenn have recently lost their mother, she passed away after she developed dementia, but they really lost her years ago, when as children she was suspected of murdering their abusive father. When Natalie responds to a murder things quickly begin to unravel as her family is pulled into the investigation, and her past may be the reason.
Not a book to read when you don’t have a long stretch to just curl up and enjoy every page of it.

The secrets we share was like nothing I’ve read in the past year. This book hooks you from the first chapter and honestly doesn’t let up until the last page when everything unfolds. The authors keeps all of the answers locked up tight for most of the book, while leaving enough bread crumbs to keep you absolutely addicted, not in a frustrating manner at all. Normally at least some of the scenarios I work out in my head end being relatively accurate - but in this book I was only putting the pieces together exactly when the author wanted me too.

Originally I felt slightly overwhelmed by the influx of characters being introduced, however once I got the lag off all the characters it was intriguing to watch how they all wrapped up nicely and how they all played their parts in the secret from so many years prior.

Overall the Secrets we Share set the bar high for all of the thrillers I’ll read this year !!

3.5 stars, rounded up.

My thanks to Kensington Books, as well as to @NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of The Secrets We Share.

Although Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott are sisters, they couldn't be less alike. Natalie is a cop with alcohol and commitment issues. Glenn is a popular food blogger with husband issues. They are both still deeply affected by the murder of their father twenty years ago, although they try to keep that fact hidden from each other and the outside world. Through a series of current incidents, the women are drawn back into their shared past. If the past murder is connected to the current murders, maybe there’s much more to know!

This book grabbed me from the beginning! It's a stand-alone from the author's Hester Thereby novels, and I must admit to now wanting to read that series! I loved Hester and her family in The Secrets We Share, although they weren't primary characters. My FAVORITE character, hands down, was Glenn's daughter, Mavis. She's an interesting adolescent who is addicted to detective shows - plus she has watched every episode of CSI Miami ever made. 😀

In all honesty, I had some difficulty keeping all of the characters straight. There were a lot of them, combined with a couple of name changes. I found myself wishing I had taken notes, starting from the beginning of the book! (Maybe I'm just old, haha.) I also have to say I didn't see the conclusion of the book coming!! Wow!

Thank you to Netgalley, Kensington Books, and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review of the book.

Having heard good things about Edwin Hill's Hester Thursby's series, I was very excited to receive an ARC for this new standalone. And, indeed, it was worth the excitement.

This story starts with a punch--literally and figuratively. By the end of the first chapter, I had gasped out loud twice. Hill knows how to make his reader identity with a character and shock them out of their comfort zone. As the story begins, young Natalie has a secret (which we discover within a few pages): her father--a despicable man--is dead, murdered, his body in the woods behind their house. Time fast forwards about 25 years, and we find Natalie grew up to be a sharp but struggling detective who is thrust into a new case involving her sister and niece. And it soon becomes clear that the murder of her father all those years ago isn't dead and buried.

This story kept me guessing and searching for culprits. I was most attached to the characters who were children--in the present and in the past. One minor issue I had was that there are a number of players in this drama and sometimes I had to stop and think about who some of them were--though I also read this at a very busy time of my semester, which may have been part of the problem.

This was a great novel that kept me turning the pages. And now I'm going to get started on that Hester Thursby series for sure!

Edwin Hill draws you in from word one. If you happen to be a fan of thrillers this one is for you.

Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott are sisters who couldn't be more different. Natalie is a detective who prefers to be alone while Glenn has a successful baking blog along with her husband and daughter. But they are bound together by the trauma of their childhood: their father was murdered twenty years ago and their neighbor was accused of the crime. When Natalie and her partner begin investigating a recent murder it starts to unravel a long, twisted trail of lies and betrayal that will bring Natalie and Glenn back to their childhood trauma. This book was intriguing and suspenseful throughout which kept me guessing right up until the end. There was also a twist near the end that was executed well. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

I was so completely drawn into the wonderful characters in Edwin Hill's The Secrets We Share that I read the entire book in about 8 hours. I could not put this down!

Not only were the characters great, but the plot was so exciting and the details as they unfolded, were more reasons for me to keep reading. This was a deviously plotted story - things were not as they seemed and the more I learned the more I wanted to know.

Edwin Hill has crafted an edge-of-your-seat riveting read that will keep many readers up past their bedtime and maybe even cause a few to call in sick to work to finish this fantastic thrill ride of a read.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this book. You'll want to share with friends and family as well, I'm sure.

Thank you to the publishers, author, and Netgalley for granting an ARC at my request. All thoughts are my own.

Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books, Kensington for the arc of this book. I usually love Edwin Hill books, but had a tough time getting into this one for some reason, maybe I am having concentration issues right now. However, the writing was great and the story was too. The ending was completely surprising, and made me want to read the book again to see if there were clues I missed. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4

I am in love with Edwin Hill's writing. I love his characters. While this book may not be characterized as a "Hester" novel, not to worry, she's here. This group of characters are some of the best in books today, they've got one another's backs through thick and thin and have made themselves a family in the best sense of the word. More, please!

Glenn and Natalie, on the surface two sisters who seem as different as chalk and cheese. Glenn is a media darling/cookbook author and Natalie a no nonsense Boston police detective. But the sisters share a dark past; no one really knows the story of their father’s body being found in the forest behind their house when the girls were young; supposedly killed by the neighbor he was having an affair with. Now, Glenn tells her sister that she’s getting online threats and innuendos about that long ago day. And when a body is found in an abandoned building, Natalie wonders if the assumptions made about her father’s death were wrong….dead wrong. Suspenseful storytelling with strong, well developed protagonists

Thrilling! Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott are sisters but complete opposites. Natalie is a no-nonsense lonely police detective and Glenn is a high maintenance instagram baking sensation living in an enclave with husband, kid and the soccer mom lifestyle.

The book opens with what happened to them both 20 years ago when growing up in a violent household. Both had left the past far behind, but now someone is stalking them and alluding to the past events. Disparaging social media messages, dead bodies, notes, and clues, Natalie and Glenn need to make peace with each other in order to get to the bottom of this dangerous issue!

This book has domestic drama, family drama, police procedural, office politics and of course mysteries and murder. There is something for everyone and it's wrapped tightly and seamless. If you like mysteries and thriller, you cannot go wrong with The Secrets We Share, one of my top reads of 2021! #TheSecretsWeShare. #NetGalley
