I requested this book assuming it was an eBook and couldn't find the time to listen to the audiobook so I missed the window to read this before it got archived. Recently I was able to find a variation of copies through my library apps and settled on the ebook with added narration. Very grateful I picked that formatting because it added an animation to the beautiful illustrations done by Morris. I genuinely adore stories that involve hair days as it was such a communal aspect to the week with my family, sitting around the living room watching whatever show was on, so to read this gave me a bit of nostalgia. I'll be sure to grab a copy for my future library.

I wasn’t able to get through this story easily, even though it’s short. The music in the background, and the tempo, are just way too slow. It had a hard time keeping the attention of my children, and even myself.

I would love to look at this book in hard copy format. I feel like the story could be great! Giving the characters our own voices, and being able to look at beautiful illustrations would make it so much more engaging.

I would love to give this story another chance as a hard copy. To add it to my library for children to look at.

The illustrations were good, the story line just did not hold the

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced electronic audio copy of this book. This is a story about two girls who are self-conscious about their hair. It provides multiple examples of various Black and Brown historical figures who have very curly hair. Even though this book seems to be targeting young readers, there are concepts and vocabulary that are too complex for them and require further explanation. It is, otherwise, a nice book.

This book is a little difficult to understand as an audiobook. It would surely be better in a print format with the poetic type writing and descriptions of many people in history as hair through the years is what this book is based on. What I did get from this was informative and I love the definitions at the end.

The combination of poetry, history, and cultural experiences of African American and Porte Rican Americans. Talk about the life and struggles of the girls and women because of their hair. Their triumphs, their personal reflections and their abilities.
The audible book is a little confusing. because of the text would be better with the book, a great read for self reading books for students.

Hair Story starts with a rhyming tale about two girls' relationships with their hair and the strengthened familial connections it provides. Then follows a history of cross-cultural hair perceptions and individuals who have played a role championing or advocating for acceptance of all hair types followed by a glossary of terms used in the story and narrative that followed. The back and forth of the dual narration kept the story flowing, as did the use of background music and sounds. The historical non-fiction portion of the story may sound a bit rote to younger children but should hold the attention of older elementary and middle-grade listeners.
