Millie Ward lost her job and doesn't know what to do with her life. All she knows is that she doesn't want to move back in with her parents and follow the path they insist she take. When her best friend invites her to visit the idyllic little surfing town in California where she's an influencer, she jumps at the chance. The fact that it also comes with her best friend's brother who has been her crush from the moment they met in college is just a bonus.
So Millie takes her desire for a better life and a magical dress that her group of friends has shared for years which has gotten the others their dreams and packs up for a visit to California with plans to launch herself as an influencer. Except things are not as perfect as she expected and she's constantly sharing her fails instead of the carefully curated life the town is known for. But it's in those mistakes and getting back up that Millie might just find her own version of nearly perfect happiness.
It's a fun story with lots of the typical fails that are more charming than bad I love in rom-coms. Millie is likable from the get-go and Pete is a great counterbalance to her personality so it's obvious that they're meant to be as soon as they share the page. Millie's friends, even the ones that don't get much page time, are there to add to the story and build up the world and characters in a way that feels natural.
My one complaint is that it goes a bit too hard at making the point that being an influencer is not an easy thing. It's a true and valid point, but it gets beat into the ground to the point where you kind of want to join in with the haters just to escape the continuous nudging. It honestly got annoying.

Happy thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the fun read!

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

This book had lot of good elements of a cute summer read, but ultimately the social media/influencer storyline wasn't very appealing to me.

The cover is bomb and I will definitely be reading more by Libby in the future. I really enjoyed this book and the journey to appreciate yourself in every step of life.

A cute book but had trouble getting into it and connecting with the characters. I liked the overall premise of the book, fresh starts, proving people wrong, being able to do it on your own but it fell a little flat for me. I'd be willing to try other books by this author in the future though. Thank you netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.

DNF-ed will not be reviewing. The writing style was not for me, and since I did not read the whole book, I cannot review it fairly.

The adorable comeback story that everyone wants to be able to relate to. Who wouldn't want to be able to run away to a cute little town and give all our cares away to start over? There are certainly days that I would! Millie and Pete are both adorable characters that make this a quick and fun read!

I LOVED this book! It was so cute. The concept was great and it was so well written. Something I will definitely recommend to friends and family.

As a summer fluff read, this isn't bad. I didn't connect with the main character and so much about her seemed juvenile. It made it difficult to root for her in her situation. Not my favorite.

Such a perfect summer read! I couldn't put it down! It was a little bit spicy and I loved the characters! A lot of my favourite authors enjoyed this one too, so I was glad to pick this one up!

This book was okay. I couldn’t get into it as much as I would’ve liked unfortunately.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review

Four Ways to Wear a Dress Gillian Libby

If you like surfing or Instagram this will be a book for you. If you want to read about a 20something with ADHD who doesn't want to run back to Mommy and Daddy after being fired (again), but wants to stand on her own two feet, this book is for you.

If you like fake romances again this book is for you.

I enjoyed this first book in a series, it was a good "beach read" style of book.

I liked how Millie helped her friends out once she moved back to surf and do instagram.

I did not like Millie's constant complaining or whining about the ADHD situation.

The fake romance took awhile to grow on me.

that said I would recommend it to readers who want a quick read with some funny parts and a nice wrapped up with a bow type ending that led into book 2.

Gillian Libby's Four Ways to Wear a Dress is a refreshing take on the typical rom-com. Millie is a struggling adult working towards being taken seriously while having ADHD and navigating the complex world of marketing. The book starts with Millie leaving New York to find her place after losing her job at a marketing firm. She makes her way to one of her best friends in California and makes it back to the love of her life, who just happens to be said best friend's brother. Adequately titled Four Ways to Wear a Dress, the book also centers a little black dress that she "stole" from Quincy and which the four best friends shared over the years. Historically, the girls all ended up with luck on their side while wearing the dress and hoped that it would also rub off on Millie this time around.
