I really wanted to like this book. However I just couldn't warm up to the characters. I'm not sure why, the dialogue is cute and the story fresh. I will try the book again in a few weeks.

Fun cozy mystery with well developed characters that’s well-written.

This is a fun mystery with lots of well developed characters and a twist at the end that feels "fair" but not overdone! I also loved the fact that the main character is an author (who writes a series of detective novels) and was trying to simultaneously write a novel and solve a related mystery all in one. This is definitely a series I will keep following, although I'm not sure how the author will keep this up!

Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Buried in a Good Book follows Bestselling Thriller writer Tessa Harrow as she heads to her family's cabin with her daughter Gertrude in hopes to finish her novel and finally have time to heal and bond with her daughter after her recent divorce. But what Tessa did not expect was to be thrust into a real life murder investigation after only a few moments into her vacation. This begins the wild adventure between Tessa, a murder investigation. her daughter, the worried and slightly crazy neighbours, and the really cute Detective.

This book really is a perfect cozy read. Although I got a little bored in some parts, the majority of the book was super easy to read. A great start to a series by Tamara Berry.

Thank you to the publishers for sending me this ARC through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review!

The characters in this book were incredibly distinct and loveable. The main character, Tess, is an author who is detail oriented and pushes standard boundaries. In this book, there is a murder and various other criminal activity that Tess intends to solve. Throughout the unfolding story, we get a glimpse in the mind of Tess and how she rationalizes the information that she learns. Tess gets suspicious of plenty of characters, which therefore made the narration biased and made me want to keep reading to eventually find out who was truly guilty! Due to Tess being an author, she has colorful thoughts and I never wanted to stop reading. It was so interesting to see how this character learns, develops, and interacts with other characters, especially my favorite, Sheriff Boyd.

On another note, one of the crimes that occurred with animals was kind of strange and felt out of place, almost leaning towards unbelievable territory. For a book like this, it would make more sense to keep things within realistic bounds. Overall, I loved the characters so much and I definitely want to read the next book in this series!
