Wow, I did not expect the twist 3/4 of the way through. The book had me entertained and wanting more. I enjoyed it greatly and have it for the library. Thank you for the ARC #netgalley.

I am a sucker for thrillers, especially with family drama! I wanted all the information, and that had me speed reading, trying to guess what was happening and who did what. I will say, this was a quick read, but there were a few moments were I had to force myself to focus. Of course, that could just be a "me" problem! The bodies discovered are not the only secret being kept hidden, and I didn't see the big twist coming! I loved these characters and the twisty turns of the plot. I will definitely add a physical copy to my collection, Claire Douglas is an auto buy author for me now!

This was a slow paced but interesting family drama. I loved the premise and the twists at the end. Some were predictable while some were not. This was a good read and I enjoyed it.

This was good. Not sure its alot to write home about but it was a good read. Had me guessing but the characters were alittle blah for me. I was a quicker read so that was a good thing.

This was a fast and interesting read.. I thought the ending was good. I enjoyed the characters and loved Rose’s POV. I also really liked that we had Theo’s POV as well. I think that added a little something extra to the story.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this digital arc which is my honest review and is not affiliated with any brand.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one! It was chilling, well-paced, and twisty and I loved as everything unfolded and skeletons became unearthed. I'll definitely be looking for more from this author!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy!

This book was a 5 star read ! The plot was full of twist and turns and kept me guessing. A young couple, Saffy and Tom, have just recently moved into her grandmothers home and expecting a child. In order to really enjoy the cottage they decide to renovate the property. During the renovations an unimaginable discovery is uncovered in the garden, 2 bodies. Saffy must inform her mother, Lorna , who currently lives in Spain that she needs her to co me back home to help her deal with this mystery. The two women have never been close but share the love for the aging Rose Grey, who is the mother to Lorna and grandmother to Saffy. The discovery of the bodies is not the only secret that will be unearthed in this wonderful book. Thanks to Harper Collins and Net Galley for the advance copy from Claire Douglas.

I lost interest in this one so quickly as it was not what I expected it to be. When a kitchen renovation reveals that there are two bodies buried in Saffy and Tom's backyard, I was on the edge of my seat to figure out what happened at 9 Skelton Place 30 years ago. Family secrets are revealed, but the way they unravel left me feeling dissatisfied and sometimes confused. Ultimately I am happy that I picked this up, and I think that for some of my library patrons it will be a hit!

What would you do if you moved into a new home and found dead bodies in your yard? For Saffron and her boyfriend Tom this is a real problem. But here’s the kicker the police think that maybe just maybe her grandma had something to do with it.⁣

I really enjoyed this one, it was a quick and easy to read. I also definitely did not see the ending coming. Overall, I would recommend this one to mystery lovers!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Multiple point of views and dual timelines are some of my favorites when it comes to a book, and this had it! Engaging all the way until the end. Really good twists, and enjoyed seeing the story unfold.

Another great read from Claire Douglas. I didn't read it until later in the year, but appreciate getting it from Netgalley before it was archived. It's twisty and has multiple narrators who may or may not be reliable. There were a few too many characters who tripped me up a couple of times but overall it was a solid suspense story that held my interest. Also I learned a new British phrase, "memory care homes." In the US we just call these nursing homes or assisted living, but memory care home sounds more compassionate, at least to me.

This domestic thriller is full of lies and deceit with some emotional, gripping scenes.
Introducing the residents, The Couple at No 9, is Saffy and Tom expecting their first baby. There is so much excitement having a cottage gifted to them from her mother Lorna, who also inherited it. Lorna never knew it existed until her mother, Rose, was placed into a nursing home with Alzheimer's. The excitement turns to uncertainty when 2 bodies are found during an excavation of the garden. Autopsies reveal they died 30 years ago. When detectives question Rose, her memory comes in fragments due to this cruel disease of the mind. This makes the story intriguing with each visit as bits of history are displayed. There are a lot of characters introduced but necessary to rebuild the past keeping you on the edge of your seat.
As new people make an entrance, be aware they are not all kind, leaving trust an issue and a trail of crime scenes. Some secrets are better left untold. A shocking ending and a devastating blow to some of the kindest people undeserving of their pain and just looking for answers

Pregnant Saffron has moved into the family home with her boyfriend Tom. When they start renovations, the builders uncover human remains. They are from about 30 years ago, when her grandmother lived in the cottage. Her grandmother has Alzheimer's, and can't, or won't help the Police.

Tense and well-written, with some twists I didn't see coming!

Thank you Netgalley and Harper Paperbacks for the ARC!

The book has a very slow start so it is hard to get into it when it’s like that. This book is unfortunately dull and very predictable.

This is my first book by Claire Douglas and I need more. I truly enjoyed this book. I liked the atmosphere of the small, quaint and a little creepy town. The beginning of the book was a bit slow going as the characters were developed, there were a lot of characters to get to know as the story unfolds. It's well written and when the story starts to pick up pace there's a simmering suspense with a couple surprise twists and a few I did manage to guess. Overall an enjoyable read.

Saffy and Tom get an unexpected surprise when they are renovating their house, The construction crew discovers human remains. Since this is a family home, given to Saffy by her grandmother, it opens a world of questions. Told in dual timelines, the story of the house and its inhabitants, past and present, are uncovered. There were some great, surprising moments in this story, but it also dragged a bit during Theo's chapters. I believe this is my first book by this author and I would like to read more.

Claire Douglas is a favorite author so I was thrilled to get approved for The Couple at Number 9. I enjoyed the dual timeline. There were so many twists and turns that surprised me and I love that in a book. Highly recommend adding this one to your TBR.

Claire Douglas never ceases to surprise me when I read her books and The Couple at Number 9 was no different. I loved the premise with Saffron finding human remains in her backyard, and since that is the first thing that happens it really set the tone for the rest of the story. There are multiple viewpoints and while I won't say who, I definitely had my favorites. I really enjoyed the blend between past and present and Douglas created a very lovely ominous feeling throughout the story. I was shocked by all of the reveals, and I didn’t have anything guessed which is something I always appreciate. I thought it was a very original storyline as well and I loved the mystery.

The audiobook is where things got a little dicey for me and while I loved Nathalie Buscombe’s narration for the female viewpoints, I found it hard to understand Kenton Thomas who narrates Theo. I would be able to listen to Buscombe at a faster speed but whenever Theo’s chapters hit I would have to slow it way down to be able to understand Thomas and he also sounded a little muffled. For some reason, Buscombe isn’t mentioned as a narrator on Audible or Libro.fm either, and I don’t understand that since she narrates basically the entire book. Either way, the audio for The Couple at Number 9 was not my favorite thanks to Thomas, and I would personally recommend reading Theo’s chapters since I ended up following along in the book for those myself. Minus the weirdness of the audio, the book itself was very twisty and enjoyable, and I loved this newest release from Douglas!
