Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score is a small-town romantic comedy told in the third person. The story follows the relationship between Maggie, a home renovation internet TV star, and Silas, the landscaper working with her on her latest project.
Silas is infatuated with Maggie from the moment he sees her. There’s definitely insta-lust on his part, but his intentions go beyond simply getting his rocks off. I’m calling it infatuation because Silas thinks “fate” brought Maggie to his town—that she might be “the one”—and he’s genuinely interested in getting to know her. She’d have to be a horrible person to cure his infatuation, but that’s not the case—far from it! The more Silas gets to know Maggie, the more he admires and desires her as his feelings grow in substance and depth.
Maggie is attracted to Silas, but she’s not interested in a serious relationship. Her time in town is temporary. She’s there for the renovation, and plans to move on when it’s over—just like she always does. But the charming, hot landscaper and the feelings she’s having for him are complicating matters, and Maggie needs to decide what she’ll do when the project is finished. Will Silas convince her to stay? Or will Maggie move on as planned?
I enjoyed Maggie and Silas’s story, but I had a hard time choosing my rating for Maggie Moves On. It was light, fun, humorous, and a pleasant reading experience overall, but the third-person narrative kept me from connecting with the characters as much as I would have liked, keeping them at arm's length. This made it easy for me to put the book down and walk away to do other things. I usually take a day or two to read a book, but this one took five even though it was shorter than other Lucy Score books I’ve read.
Third person lends itself to rich setting descriptions and a broader view of characters' thoughts and emotions, because the author isn’t limited to telling a story through the thoughts, opinions, and knowledge of the point-of-view characters like in first-person narratives. So I understand why third person was the appropriate choice for this story. Even so, I want to FEEL when I read, and for most of the story, I didn’t feel very much. I say most, because there was a moment in chapter 46 where—oh, my heart!—I felt EVERYTHING. This moment definitely gave me 5-star feels, and is the reason Lucy Score continues to be one of my favorite authors.

I love Lucy Score and she definitely delivers with her new book! Maggie Moves On has small town romance down to a T. Quirky side characters, beautiful historic homes, a loveable dog (and kittens!), and a beautiful insta-love hero. I loved how Cat King was mentioned, especially since I just reread Mr. Fixer Upper before this book by pure coincidence! I love when stories connect and bring in characters from other books, and we already know Lucy knows how to create a dynamic world within her series (hello, my favorite Blue Moon Series!!!). 4/5 stars!

I am no stranger to Lucy Score and her library of work, it's pretty typical for me that at least one Lucy book shows up each month in my stack of books read. That being said, I liked this book quite a bit, but it wasn't my FAVORITE Lucy book. I think part of this might be because I read it shortly after her other newest release, TWNGO (Things We Never Got Over) and I absolutely ADORED that book, so that was a hard act to follow. For starters Lucy is brilliant when it comes to building an ensemble cast (i.e.. Riley Thorn books - AMAZING) and she sucks you in with little character flaws, witty banter, mega chemistry and making your own tribe. It's hands down one of the many reasons I gravitate to her books, and the laugh out loud moments are hard to beat. This story is especially relevant for today's world, as it follows a YouTube star and her home reno show and the people that help make it happen. Enter in her newest project in a small town in the hills of Idaho, enter a "hot landscaper guy" and it's on! I really enjoyed the added historical searches and the mystery that Lucy always finds a way to rope into her plot lines. There were touching tender scenes, and self realization moments that hit a little too close to home. The reason I didn't give it a full five stars, like I so often do with Lucy's books, is this one just seemed to take a little longer for me to get into. It was a slower start for me than other books, such as Rock Bottom Girl, either of the Riley Thorn books, Forever Never, or TWNGO - all of which I felt like I couldn't read fast enough and couldn't put them down. Overall though, it was a great read, fantastic characters, and a really fun story line with a few unexpected twists and turns! I am, and always will be a Lucy fan!

This book has everything I love. Small town charm. Hilarious banter. A swoony, cinnamon-roll hero who falls first. A supporting cast of family members, friends and animals. A touch of mystery. I laughed, I cried and I didn’t want it to end.

I love Lucy Score’s books but this one I had a hard time getting into. I’m not really a big fan of stories written in the 3rd person so it took me a long time to get through this. In the end, I did like it, just not as much as I hoped I would.

I read this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
In typical Lucy Score fashion, we have a well rounded romance, with extra characters that we can't help but fall in love with.
There's family, friends, issues that are decades long, regrets, cute animals, unforgettable experiences, and a whole heap of chemistry. As a reader, it's hard to put down and walk away from.
Lucy Score has done a great job of writing this novel, and I love how all the wonderful things you discover are explained and concluded.

Oh Lucy. I love "Maggie Moves On". Silas has won my heart for book boyfriend. He knew without a doubt that him and Maggie were a done deal, just took a little while longer for Maggie to catch on. The storyline is adorable and the side characters need their own book.bc they are just amazing. They are the perfect support team for Maggie. Maggie can do anything so long as she has her crew with her - including steal my heart. My first 5-star read of 2022!

WHERE IS THE ADVENTURE IN FINDING ONESELF IF ONE USES SOMEONE ELSE’S MAP?
“It’s our sign. I’ve been carrying you around with me since I was twelve years old,”
Maggie Nichols has enjoyed a good life buying, renovating and flipping houses while maintaining a popular YouTube channel documenting the progress. With her partner/ex husband Dean she purchases “The Old Campbell Place” in Kinship, Idaho. (Against Deans better judgement). What Sean doesn’t know is that Maggie first saw the house as a 12 year old while on vacation with her mother and it left a lifelong impression on her.
Silas Wright is a local landscaper that is chosen to handle all of the outside lawn restoration. From the time he sets eyes on Maggie he is convinced that she is “the one”. Maggie, however, takes some convincing as she is used to “moving on” once she completes a project. Silas pursues Maggie, who is definitely smitten but hesitant to jump into a relationship when she knows she will be moving to her next flip project.
The story flows well, wonderful character development, lots of humor and heat. Silas’ roommate, Kevin, is introduced in the beginning when Silas is admonishing him for eating an entire pound of bacon. Kevin is a therapy dog failure, a huge Pittbull that loves everyone, eventually becoming nanny to two kittens he finds at the job site.
Maggie Moves On is a true delight. The book held my interest from the opening page. I had to force myself to go slow and savor it as I know that it will be a while before Lucy’s next book will release. I don’t hesitate to recommend this to everyone, you truly will not be disappointed!
I received an advance reader copy of this book and my review is given freely and without compensation.

Thank you NetGalley for my ARC and Grand Central Publishing for making it possible.
Maggie Moves On is the first tradionally published book from author Lucy Score. The remainder of her titles having been published independently, but what ever means of publishing used, Maggie Moves On contains all the hallmarks I've come to expect from a Lucy Score book: Characters who are throughly thought out and feel real. A well executed story, containing multiple elements all interwoven into a solid plot. And ensemble cast which complements and fills out the story, both human and animal.
Maggie Moves On focuses on a home improvement YouTube star, Maggie Nichols, and her business partner Dean, who choose to restore a historical Queen Anne home in Kinship, Idaho. There Maggie meets Silas Wright, a local landscape contractor, who turns out to be her literal Mr. Right.
This simple sounding premise was anything but, and I enjoyed watching a sweet romance slowly emerge and eventually heat up. I thought it was a great read.

Maggie and Dean have a YouTube house flipping show. She buys a mysterious old Victorian in an Idaho tourist town. Silas, the hottie landscaper she hires, wants a relationship. Maggie, the quirky renovator, wants a summer fling while she renovates the house; because she doesn’t do commitment. As the renovation and their relationship progress, they both realize what they want out of life and love.
The secondary storylines with Sy’s family and the locals and a historic gold heist mystery were a fun addition to the main story. The story was well paced, nothing felt rushed and despite the length of the book, I wasn’t skimming through pages because the story was dragging. The romance between Maggie and Sy felt believable, it wasn’t instalove or realized at the end of the book.
I think the thing I liked the most about this book was that it was a unique storyline, compared to the romance themes that everyone seems to be writing lately.

Oh wow. This was a fantastic book. Full of intrigue, romance and so many laughs. This is a favourite author of mine and I loved the little nod to Rock Bottom Girls Vicky. I would definitely recommend this book.

Haters to lovers is my all-time favorite trope so I was super excited to dive in! I will say it's worth a read and cute, but it wasn't my favorite book by this author.

I loved the book. Story was great. I had a little confusion about who Diego was on a single page 68% through the book. I figured out it was a mistype but should be checked.

It is impossible for Lucy Score to write a bad book, and this one is no exception! Maggie Moves On is full of heart and sass and humor, with a little angst and mystery woven in, just enough to make it unthinkable to put this book down, but not enough to make it a stressful read! This book is 100% a standalone novel and it wraps everything up so beautifully, I love a good epilogue and this one hits the mark without leaving you guessing on how your favorite characters flourish in their happily ever afters.

This book was made to be a movie. This book has the perfect combination to make a perfect romance. The chemistry between Silas and Maggie was both spicy and sweet, with tender moments of vulnerability mixed with laugh out loud zingers. There’s nothing that I love more than two people creating together while being able to fall in love over smashing out walls.
Silas, oh Silas. He was beyond adorable with his backwards baseball cap and his inability to know how to text a meme or even know what “u-tube” is. He’s adorable and likable with his unabashed cocky charm mixed with a boy next door sweetness. I love Maggie's take charge attitude and being the boss in every situation , but I love even more the Maggie who cannot control the lovable Silas. It was fun watching the walls she so carefully placed over the years get knocked down one by one with every one of Silas flirty comments. But it wasn’t just all obviously flirtation. There are quiet moments where a true connection between them flourish.
Though this insta-love happened faster than my heart was ready for, it wasn’t hard to see the connection between Maggie and Silas. I liked how this steamed organically from a genuine friendship to something more. This book had all the smiles while almost making my heart swoon. This is my first book by this author and it certainly will not be my last. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever Pub for this eARC

I wanted to love this book. I LOVE the author and count her books among my favorites. But this book just seemed to drag on and on and I just could never get behind the characters the way I have in her other books.

Full disclosure I am a huge Lucy Score fan! I was thrilled to receive an ARC copy to review.
Maggie Moves On is a story with many layers. It’s about friendship, family (the one you are born into and those you choose), self discovery and finding love.
Maggie Nichols has carved her name into the home renovation world, figuratively and literally. She is on a quest to gain followers and build her brand. Her newest project brings her to a small town in Idaho. What she finds there is more than just a dilapidated home set high on a hill.
Silas Wright is the lucky landscaper hired to work his magic on Maggie’s home. He is a man on a mission, to convince Maggie to stay and put down roots. He’ll need to use all his tools to break down her walls. The signs are all there, will Maggie be open to receive them?
Small town living, slow burn to steamy fun, family dinners, quirky pets and grumpy townspeople, while solving a decades old mystery. Maggie Moves On will grab you and not let go.

It was a great book! I enjoyed this one and it would be fun to see it as a movie! The book was different than most because she was building a house. I’ve never read anything similar and I enjoyed it.

Loved this book - a bit of mystery, a lot of comedy. And bundles of love and romance! Maggie knows exactly what she wants from her renovations, but not so much from her relationships. Silas knows what he wants and goes for it with gusto! Sprinkle in lovable, quirky characters, complicated families, and a goofball dog and his kitties set in a project house with secrets and you have another wonderful Lucy Score tale. The romance is sweet with plenty of spice. Thank you for the opportunity to read this in advance!

2.5 rounded up to 3 stars. The dialogue was very cheesy which took me out of the story. I loved Maggie’s character, but I didn’t see the chemistry between her and Silas. Mostly because I didn’t like Silas… the way his accent was written drove me crazy. I couldn’t stand the “darlin’” and “baby”’s; completely took me out of the romance. I did enjoy the setting of a home flip, though.
