A glimpse into how the other half live but with a very dark undercurrent running throughout.

An elite school where wealth and winning are the most prized attributes and the lengths some parents will go to get their kids to the very top. With the girls soccer (football!) team a main feature of this plot line yet the competitive isn’t the girls on the pitch, it’s most prevalent between the parents, in this case the mothers!

These people on the surface have it all, wealth, houses, designer clothes, cars, talented children in an elite school at the top of their game, and yet, not all is as glossy as the magazines they all read.

The well loved and coveted sports coach who is as driven by winning as both parents and students alike also appears to be living the dream with his job at this elite wonderland of a school, his famous movie star girlfriend and love of his job and good standing in the community. Yet as with most things, take a peak under the surface and things are never what they seem.

This is a really well written, fast paced suspense that has enough plot twists to make your head spin! The characters are all flawed with some more likeable than others, you can’t but help to get involved in their lives and situation and route for them, right up until the very end. And what an ending it is!!

A brilliant book, great characters, plots galore and an ending that will both shock and delight.

Initially, the first couple of chapters of this book were attention grabbing. Enough to be intriguing.
But things get pretty confusing, unrealistic and unrelatable pretty soon that it took me a while to get through this.
I feel like it wanted to be 2-3 different things at once and ultimately it didn't work in the end.

The Lying Club has an attention grabbing opening, a young woman awakens in her car after seemingly having blacked out she retraces her steps, which are evident in the snow, and discovers a body in a pool of blood. Set in a well off elite school community in Colorado the story navigates the twisted relationships between the students, parents, and school staff in the six months leading up to the event. Everyone is lying, to themselves and each other. The characters are unsympathetic, unrelatable and unlikeable. The writing is well paced, engaging and full of twists which makes up for them and drives you to find out what really happened. I love it when that happens!
Thanks to Quercus Books and Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book.

A body lies in a pool of blood in the gymnasium of an elite private school in Colorado. When it is discovered , two bodies are taken out on stretchers…but who and why?

“The Lying Club” starts six months before and follows the lives of three women leading up to the event - Asha, who suspects her husband is cheating with another parent at the school, Blake, recently separated and determined her daughter succeeds, and Natalie, the administration assistant who watches the drama of the school unfold.

As a big fan of similar books like “Big Little Lies” I was keen to delve into another domestic drama at s school. However, I was a bit underwhelmed by the book. The three women featured in the book are just so unlikeable and for the first two thirds of the book it all felt a bit shallow and superficial. I would probably give this section a two star review, as I was tempted to DNF.

However, things really picked up in the last third as the true personality of one of the characters was revealed. I really feel the author did a brilliant job writing such a toxic, narcissistic personality and relationship and I was surprised at the lengths the character was willing to go to. This section is definitely four stars.

Overall, it’s not the best I’ve read in this genre but it was it was worth reading to the end.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

The book is full of liars, cheats, rich people and of course murder. This book has many twists and turns that keeps you wanting more. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged.

I'm quite conflicted when writing this review as this book was nothing new or unique about the plot, it felt like 3 or 4 other books I had read before.

The Lying Club is a dark academia thriller that is set in an elite private school in Colorado. You find out 2 bodies were found at the school and all the main characters are suspects who all have their issues one a serial cheater, one who self medicates and one a sexual predator however each characters 'tropes' got very convoluted during the book and became hard to follow.

The book was lengthy and unnecessarily descriptive at times.

Natalie Bellman, wakes up early one morning in her car in the parking lot of the Falcon Academy, an elite private school in the Colorado mountains where she works as an administrative assistant. Vaguely thinking she’s done something regrettable, she wanders over to the gym.

This was a very disturbing but good read.

Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish and could not get enough of.

This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good thriller!!
Absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the tension - impossible to put it down.
Certainly recommended!

While there were a lot of lies being told in this book, it didn’t seem like there was a lying club. The story was about the parents, students and staff at an elite school - Falcon Academy where rich and entitled parents would do whatever it took to advance the prospects of their rich and entitled children while the school appeared to be oblivious. Reputation is everything!

I could not relate to these rich and entitled characters. The parents were almost worse than the children. The children were bratty and secretive and indulged in dangerous behaviour. The staff members that the story focussed mainly on were Coach Nick Maguire who liked to look at pictures of naked teens and Natalie Bellman, the naive young receptionist. Natalie was probably the only potentially likeable character in the book but she spoiled it by overdoing the uppers and downers, drugs she purloined from various sources. She also made breathtakingly stupid decisions.

So that’s the setup and clearly it is a recipe for disaster. So while we are waiting for the inevitable train wreck we have to slog through a lot of detail, much of it I didn’t think was necessary. It slowed the pace of the story down. I felt the book could have been shorter and would have crisper for it.

Overall it is a good story that, for me, got too bogged down. Others will disagree, I know a lot of people rated it higher but I’m giving it three stars. Thanks to Netgalley and Quercus Books for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

Thank you for the chance to review this book. It was a winner for me gripping me from the first page.

I found the pace great, plotted well throughout. Well formed characters and a good amount of mystery.

I would recommend this book and would love to see it made into a TV series too!

This book was a wild ride! I loved the twists - some were expected & some were unexpected. I enjoyed seeing the story from different perspectives, and I felt that Asha, Brooke & Natalie were great characters. The story felt a little disjointed at times, but it worked & wowed me when everything came together at the end. Secrets are revealed, people get hurt, reputations are ruined - I loved every minute of it!

This is the first book that I have read by the Author and won't be the last. I devoured this book in 2 sittings as I really wanted to see how it turned out. The characters are well rounded and for the most part unlikeable and if not a touch shady. Honestly part of the fun of this book is trying to work out who is telling the truth, is the story being distorted, who are the villains, how is the victim or victims and how will it resolve. Like any good mystery it begins where as the reader, you are aware that something horrible has happened, but just not yet sure exactly what has occurred. From there you are taken on a journey to unravel what has exactly happened, as you get to know each of the characters and their stories, with the knowledge that some life changing event is around the corner. Set in an elite suburb with an elite private school as the backdrop, this story is a good page turner. To me, the writing style and story is in the vein of Liane Moriaty's "Big Little Lies". If you enjoyed that story, then give this one a go!

The Lying Club by Annie Ward is a psychological thriller and one I devoured in two days. My first read from the author and it won't be my last.

The story begins when 2 bodies are found in the gymnasium, but who did it and why? We follow the story of our 3 lead characters. Natalie, Asha and Brooke are all connected by Falcon Valley private school in Colorado. Both Asha and Brooke have children that attend the school with their daughters Mia and Sloane being very talented soccer players. We find out something is not right with the girls. Natalie works in the office at the school and ends up falling in love with coach Nick. Everyone has a motive and everyone is a suspect.

The book is full of liars, cheats, rich people and of course murder. This book has many twists and turns that keeps you wanting more.

Thank you Quercus Books and Netgalley for a copy of this book for my honest review.

Annie Ward has written a very fun and addictive book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

An elite private school that is inhabited by a sea of the wealthy and filthy rich parents who have too much money and have over the top expectations for their children. The children are also on a different level, entitled, full of themselves and have a lack of respect for others, only wanting to fulfil their own needs and desires. Of course this leads to disappointments for many and ultimately to revenge and murder. Sounds wonderful doesn't it and this is exactly what makes this such a gripping story, again another book that I read in one sitting.

Again this is a new author to me so I will once again be looking up Annie's other books as if they are good as this they will not disappoint me. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Five stars!!

The Lying Club by @annienighward is a 4 star read 📚

Three woman one man and a killer secret.

I really enjoyed reading this book, I got into it straight away the story had me hooked from the start, the story was cleverly plotted and written with characters that are like something out of desperate housewives, what I loved about this book is that it keeps you guessing it has you wanting more and each page it drip feeds you a bit more information.

I really loved how the story was connecting together how the women where being drawn into each other’s lives and how everything came to a deadly conclusion what's more is that I liked the ending I thought it was the perfect fit for the story and for the characters, this is a book that could easily be a successful TV series I would highly recommend this book if you love a book with twists and turns this is a book you will not want to miss or put down.

The Lying Club was the first book by Annie Ward that I have read but I will certainly be on the lookout for more. This was such a fun read, quite the page turner, full of unlikeable characters and toxic relationships.

Spoilt, rich families who will do anything for their children. But how far will they go? I certainly wouldn't want to live in the community full of liars, cheats and egotistical people. In this town in Colorado, an elite private school becomes the centre of attention when 2 bodies are found in the gymnasium. Who are they and who would want them dead. 3 women all have different reasons, and we learn about these as the book progresses. IT is one you won't want to put down and become enthralled in from the start.

I won't lie, I literally stayed up for an extra 3 hrs to finish this book! And I have no regrets!!! Its just so enthralling and so well written that you just have to know how it all ends. I loved thebstyle of writing and that the characters weren't all perfect or too basic or predictable. They had their own distinctive voices and personalities and ultimately, their own reasons for doing what they did and I love that. This one is very much worth a read!!! I guarantee you won't be able to stop until you hit that final page

The Lying Club by Annie Ward

I was so excited to read this as I've previously read and loved 'Beautiful Bad' by this author. Two different books, two amazing stories. The Lying Club is set in a prestigious Colorado high school. A beautiful setting full of some crazy, dysfunctional staff and families. Brilliant mystery thriller with unpredictable characters. Highly recommended. I recommend everything by this fantastic author xx

Edgy, Addictive Suspense….
An affluent, elitist school is at the centre of this one sit, edgy and addictive suspense. The neighbourhood populated with equally affluent and elitist parents and their entitled offspring. Strange doings are afoot, however, and things are about to take a downward spiral and get very dark indeed. Gripping from the off, populated with a credible cast of mostly, and quite rightly, unlikeable characters and with a narrative style that doesn’t let go until the very final words this quickly became impossible to put down. Superb.

Awesome.
Natalie, a young office assistant, dreams of having a life like the school moms she deals with every day. Women like Brooke-a gorgeous heiress, ferociously loving mother and serial cheater-and Asha, an overachieving and overprotective mom who suspects her husband of having an affair.
Their fates are bound by their relationships with the handsome, charming assistant athletic director Nicholas, who Natalie loves, Brooke wants and Asha needs. But when two bodies are carried out of the school early one morning, it seems the jealousy between mothers and daughters, rival lovers and the haves and have-nots has shattered the surface of this isolated, affluent town-a town where people will stop at nothing to get what they want.
Seriously this was a fun read, enjoyed it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Quercus Books for giving me an advance copy.
