Rhett Gallagher’s adventurous life is imploding. Her relationship implodes and her grandmother dies. All of this sends her home to the family farm. She does have one thing going for her, the book she wrote is a wild success. The only thing is that she wrote it under a pseudonym, the success scares he and convinces her friend to attend the book events. Can she find her feet and her confidence and stand up to her mother and make a life for herself?

In her Boots is a reflection of a childish young woman who after 20 years of trying to find herself and run from confrontation with her mother. Rhett is the author of a successful book called the Modern Pioneer Girl. She wrote this book using. Pseudonym, based on her travels and her Instagram persona. When one day she receives a message online from the Today Show to appear to promote her book. She begs her best friend, Jasmine to film the today show slot. Jas will have to become the face of her book. Rhett as a character seems immature and although I enjoyed how she learned so much as a hands-on person and her travels it appears she did not grow personally in her approach to people. Estranged from her mother for twenty years, Rhett must face her in order to save land that is very special to her. So much is riding on this, and Rhett is not sure due can pull this off. In Her Boots is a touching story about forgiveness, second chances, and being true to who you were born to be, even if it means disappointing others.

Thanks to Netgalley, the author and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for this ARC.

Parts of this book hit a little too close to home. I too was an only child whose relationship with her mother was less than stellar. And I was an adult before I truly realized that my mother loved me and did the best she could given the circumstances. Although this book was a little long to get to the punch line, it was an interesting read throughout. A story for all woman who are making it on their own but still grappling with the feelings of not being good enough or faking it.

An enchanting story, where I was rooting for The Modern Pioneer Girl’s growth at each step of the way.

As a traveler and nomad myself, I could relate to her life on the road -but ultimately Rhett’s decision to come home and her struggle to own and succeed with her grandmother’s New Hampshire farm are what won my heart and made me love this novel!

A charming, escapist, and heart-warming read with lovely moments of levity and humor. So made me smile, and I loved the focus on the power of friendship.

In Her Boots is a cute, adorable story about friendship, family and happiness. This coming of age story features Rhett who is learning to overcome her youth and her relationship with her mother to achieve the life she wants. She's incredibly tired of hiding in the shadows but she's intimated by the one person who's always questioned what she does, her mother.

The homeyness of the story, along with the secondary cast of characters including the farm animals, add warmth to the storyline that's bursting with small town feels. How we learn to forgive can give us the power to move forward to be the best version of ourself.

Thank you PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons for the advance reader copy.

KJ Dell'Antonia is back with another delightful novel, the bestselling author of The Chicken Sisters returns with another book sure to keep you laughing and turning the pages, and just leave a big smile on your face. She does not disappoint!

In Her Boots follows Rhett Gallagher also known as The Modern Pioneer Girl, an Instagram influencer whose influence is posting anoynmously about finding joy in the journey and taking the road less traveled. Her identity is a secret, that only her best friend Jasmine knows, until life brings about a return to her roots and small home town.

I loved K.J. Dell'Antonia's first book Chicken Sisters and was thrilled to be able to read In Her Boots. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it and am happy to report, I loved In Her Boots just as much. It is such a fun story written with humor and heart as well as thoughtful wisdom sprinkled throughout. I loved the friendship between Rhett and Jasmine they were the shining light for me. The book felt like a fun mix of Gilmore Girls and Parent Trap.

A funny thing happened on the way to The Today Show…

In Her Boots is a story about a girl returning to save her family farm from the big bad university….and her mother. While at it, she just may have a second chance at love.

Rhett learned the hard way that she got into the college she was attending because her mother was the President of the university. She also overheard a flippant comment from her boyfriend, Mike, that it is why he was dating her. Fed up, she left it all behind and began living a nomadic lifestyle working various jobs around the world. It wasn’t for naught. The chronical of her lessons were channeled into a bestselling book under the pseudonym Modern Pioneer Girl…a book that took the top spot over her mothers. Which led them both to The Today Show.

This is a story of life lessons, confronting what is holding her back and moving forward. It was fun and lighthearted most of the time. You couldn’t help but root Rhett on!

4 stars

In Her Boots by KJ Dell'Antonia was the perfect book to bring for my plane read on my recent vacation. The story sucked me right in and made my flight go that much quicker because it was such an entertaining read. Rhett has returned to her family farm after losing her grandmother. She is determined to redefine her life by making the struggling farm a major success. She must battle her mother in order for this to happen. Many hijinks ensue. Read and enjoy!

Rhett has been off on many adventures but comes home to New Hampshire when her grandmother dies, and she thinks she must take on the family farm. Rhett is also secretly The Modern Pioneer Girl as she has written a bestselling book about finding your true self in nontraditional ways- like not going to college or perusing one career. Although her pen name is secret, she is asked to do publicity now that she is back and doesn't want her stuffy college dean estranged mother or the world to know who she is. In order to keep her identity secret, her best friend Jasmine stands in for her. But can the two friends keep the Modern Pioneer Girl's identity secret, and can Rhett put down roots and face people from her past?

I picked this book up based on liking the author's previous book The Chicken Sisters. This one has many of the same things I liked about that book- messy family relationships and friendships, a stand-off, returning to your roots. However, I actually liked this one a bit more. I liked that this one had a different setting, and I liked the tension between many of the characters and how it played out. It is pretty predictable but I that did not put me off (although some of the plot points were just silly and felt like the author took the easy route.) I did have a little trouble keeping The Modern Pioneer Girl separate in my head from the Pioneer Woman (who cooks, whereas Rhett in this book does not). I wish the author had chosen a slightly less famous name. I also wish the author would have called the best friend Jasmine instead of many times calling her Jas- it took me out of the story to have to match the characters up with their nicknames so much. Despite this, I enjoyed this story and found it very readable. I will continue to read Dell'Antonia's books as I think she is writing different stories that many other authors out there.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy for review.

I really, really enjoyed this women's fiction story about Rhett, an anonymous social media influencer who's made her living promoting her "Modern Pioneer Girl" lifestyle. But when her beloved grandmother dies, Rhett returns home to the family farm only to discover she has inherited it jointly with her estranged mother who wants to sell it.

Together Rhett and her mother work to reconcile past hurts while Rhett tries to convince her to keep the farm. Rhett also gets help from her friend Jasmine who ends up pretending to be the face of the Modern Pioneer Girl with disastrous results. Full of heart and humor, this was a pure delight to read. I also really enjoyed the author's interview included at the end of the book. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

A fun, humorous romance. Loved the characters and loved reading about them evolving into better more caring people. Cute cover that definitely is perfect for the book.

We stand for a book about with a plot like this one. This book is made me feel all the feels and I will be adding this to my “read again list”.

This book has adventure, small town revisiting and a character who shows her family she can do it all no matter how tough things get.

There is something that always gets me in a book when a character has to prove she can do it. Especially a sting female lead (of course).

I really thought this was a great story! I loved the characters, the lesson's learned, and the pull yourself from your bootstraps mentality. I would read this one again for the first time if I could!

This one started a bit slow for me, but then really sucked me in. It was a nice girl-boss type twist on a rom com, and the romance took a backseat to figuring out family issues and what's next for a 40 year old. Recommend!

Fun, fun! A feminist adventurer dives into self discovery… And growing up at 40 years old. I started this book a few times, but finally got moving and actually enjoyed the story. Romance part was a little so so and the mom— eh. But enjoyed this read.

After reading and loving KJ Dell'Antonia's debut novel, THE CHICKEN SISTERS, I was thrilled to read her newest release, published 7/5/22. Dell'Antonia has a knack for writing truly engaging contemporary women's fiction with just a pinch of family drama and subtle romance. I would love to see this delightful story made into a Netflix show or movie!

If you're looking for a feel-good story...this is it!

The main character Rhett wrote an insanely popular book called "The Modern Pioneer Girl," which she published under a pen name. She's not keen on being in the spotlight, so when she gets asked to speak on a popular morning show, she forces her best friend Jasmine to take her place. Now, there is a face to the MPJ name, which is the last thing she wants. When she finally returns to her rural hometown to take over her families farm after her grandmother pasts, she realizes the property wasn't left to her. So, now she is forced to come face to face with her estranged mother, having to prove to her that she's more than capable to of running the farm on her own, and by buying her mother's half of the property. In Her Boots is an adorable, corky, farm-loving story.

Finished this one slightly after publication and, while I felt it was a little bit long, I enjoyed it. Especially great for those looking for stories about platonic girlfriends and the ups and downs of female friendship and the ways we can support each other. Another hit from KJ!
