This was an interesting account of the attorney Barry Slotnick. Slotnick started out as a attorney without many clients but then he caught a break. He became known for the notorious clients he represented. He felt like everyone deserved to have a good criminal lawyer and he became one of the best criminal lawyers in the United States. He goes into great detail in this book about the trial of Bernie Goetz the well known subway shooter. He was also the attorney for John Gotti the famous mobster. And in an interesting twist he did the pre-nup of Melania Trump! That was a little bit of a surprise addition to the story.

This book was definitely not for me. Normally I like crime and trial novels and I listen to true crime podcasts and documentaries. However, this book was a slog. I stopped many times and had to get back to it so I could listen to enough to give a review.. I did not like the main character and found the cases described to be confusing. I ended up not finishing this book.

4.5, I sometimes had a hard time keeping the defendants straight, especially during the Mafia RICO trial. All in all, it was a very interesting book to listen to. Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook.

This was my first ever audiobook and I am sad to say that I had to DNF. As this was my first, I don’t have a lot of experience with audiobooks, but this one was so incredibly boring that I could not keep going. It was dry, monotone, and without any emotion. Maybe this would be better in print or with a different narrator, but this version was just not well done.
