At the start of this book a man is killed in a hit and run. His family moves away shortly after. It is a small community known as The Close. When a new neighbour moves in everyone is curious. All of the members of The Close seem to have their own quirks.
The New Neighbor is told mostly from the main character Isobel's point of view.
Interesting and mysterious characters kept me interested.
A twist at the very end that I didn't guess until about 2/3 of the way through is always a plus for me.
I have read other books by the author and will read more as they come along.
A 3.5 star book for me.

Many thanks to netgalley and Inkubator Books for the arc.

This was a very short book but it took me a long time to read it. It felt a little repetitive but it did surprise me. About twenty-five percent in one the author gives away one of the reveals, I really appreciated that. It shows that Ms. Rijks respects her readers enough to realize we'd figure it out. I love when an author does that as it let's us get on with things, like the more important second reveal...who was responsible? That I didn't figure out at all and I enjoyed being surprised. Told through the lone perspective of our main character, Isobel the book was too much of a slow burner for me and didn't get going until I was almost finished. Even though I was surprised by this one it was a slog trying to get through it.

I don't think I've ever read a book by Miranda Rijks without loving it. I love the way she writes, I love the characters she creates.. This book kept me on my toes from the very beginning and sucked me in until the end. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this pre-release in exchange for my honest review.

“The New Neighbour” by Miranda Rijks is a suburban thriller (if that’s a thing). In this book, a new neighbor, Linette, moves into a small community called The Close. Isobel, the main character, welcomes her into the community but things start getting strange after that. This book had a number of twists, turns, red herrings, and mayhem. This book was a really fast read that kept me engaged. In a number of ways this was a rather layered book - there was the public “all is okay” layer, but - as always - there was a private or hidden “we’re all just trying to keep afloat here” layer. Isobel’s actions weren’t always ones that I’d take and her thought process didn’t always match what I’d be thinking, but for her they made sense (though I did like when she showed some steel in that backbone!). My one minor nit is that I didn’t really feel engaged with any of the main characters - though my heart melted when Isobel’s son asked Santa for “friends” for Christmas and I’ll take a loyal Labrador in a heartbeat. If you like engaging thrillers, I'd suggest reading this one.

A young man is killed in the dead of night, apparently the victim of a hit and run, in the small English community known as The Close. Devastated, his parents leave their house, and, some months later, a strange new neighbor moves in. The newcomer, a single woman, is alternately everyone’s best friend or their worst enemy. When she is thrown into the previously, and apparently, average mix of residents - a single man who works in some kind of security business and who flies a drone around the neighborhood, two apparently normal couples with young children, and an elderly man and his apparently somewhat demented wife - strange things begin to happen in what appeared to be an oasis of normalcy, albeit one whose edges have started to fray.

Gossip is spread. Lascivious behavior heretofore not experienced is stirred up. The new neighbor gets a pig (not a pot-bellied pig, but a big, pink, livestock pig) as a pet. The pig ruins gardens and fields and digs up hedges. Marriages and friendships fizzle and sizzle. And then the new neighbor is found dead.

There are so many twists and turns in this book that my head spun. And I’ll just say this - I never saw the end coming.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this ARC with me.

This is another fantastic thriller by Miranda Rijks. I found that once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing and the culprit was unexpected.
This is a great book and one that I’d definitely recommend.

The New Neighbour by Miranda Rijks is a twisty novel of domestic suspense with an ending that you won't see coming! The story revolves around Isobel, who lives in an idyllic neighborhood with her husband Mike. She knows all of her neighbors; she's in a happy marriage; everything seems perfect. Suddenly, bodies start turning up. Who is the murderer? Is Isobel living in domestic bliss or domestic terror?

Here is an exciting excerpt from the Prologue:

"It gets dark so late during this time of year, and I need to make sure that everyone is fast asleep, so it's one o'clock in the morning when I step out, ready to do my Good Samaritan deed. If truth be told, I'm a bit nervous, but needs must. It's not like I'm hurting anyone. I've put the tools in a dark grey holdall, which is slung over my shoulder, and a torch is strapped around my forehead. I take a deep breath and creep outside. It's pitch black, and my heart is thumping, but then I think about the consequences of my actions and how happy she'll be. I grin when I think about the smile it'll put on her face. Yes, it's definitely worth it."

Overall, The New Neighbor is a domestic suspense novel that will appeal to fans of Kiersten Modglin and B.A. Paris. One highlight of this book was the ending when the murderer was revealed. I was truly surprised, and I was happy to be surprised. If I had to complain about one thing, I would say that the majority of the book is very slow-moving. It doesn't get exciting until the very end. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of domestic suspense, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in December!

It is strange that we people, although live in a society, a community and a family, should live together in harmony, but they do not succeed. In this book, this community is represented by The Close, which consists of only five houses, five families, the environment is idyllic and harmonious, yet no one is happy, neighbors hate and watch each other with suspicion. Harmony is not complete within families either, there is cheating, jealousy and constant suspicion everywhere. The experience from this book is also that we live in a community, yet we are very alone, we can only count on ourselves.

I’m always a little worried to start a book written by a woman, a woman is the protagonist, and through her eyes and thoughts we can follow the story. And lately, these books are mostly written for women as well, as most of the readers come from them. But now my fear was unfounded, I could hide in Isobel's skin, the character was sympathetic, I was excited that by the end of the book everything would turn out well.
The story is a standard suburban thriller with intrigue, silenced sins and secrets. The author of the book masterfully adds tension, every word, every sentence is in place, everything serves the purpose of maintaining interest and entertaining.

The events and the twists were a bit predictable, but that didn’t make the book boring. I didn’t always agree with Isobel’s actions because maybe she was the only one who loved her family unconditionally and cared about her neighbors as well. All she wanted was for her to be reciprocated, for her opinion to be listened to, and for her interests to be taken into account. Unfortunately, that’s why she’s the one the others are watching with suspicion, rumors about her, all about what’s wrong. Of course, such is the police, who still prove that it is not always in their best interest to find the real culprit, but only to arrest someone, and then it will be up to the judiciary to decide whether he is guilty or he is a victim. While a good law enforcement organization should work to always find the perpetrator of the crime, the court should have only one task left to determine what punishment the perpetrator should receive.

To sum up the previous ones, this is an unputdownable, suspenseful suburban thriller with a bit of social criticism.

Another amazing thriller from Miranda Rijks.
This was a quick and entertaining read, that once you start, you won’t be able to tear yourself away from. Expertly plotted and perfectly written, Miranda Rijkis has delivered another addictive and enjoyable read.
This book was extremely well plotted and written.
The story here is fascinating, wild, and unpredictable.
I’ve read most of Rijks books and each is better than the next.
Each book is a surprise and The New Neighbour is a riveting read.
This book is intense. You will never believe the things that happen, and the twists keep coming.
You will never guess what will happen, and even when you think you’ve figured it out-you will be wrong.
The ending will leave your jaw on the floor and your pulse racing.
Very well done!

Isobel's dream house is part of the Close - a small enclave of large houses on a quiet country road. Her, her husband Michael and their two children have lived there happily for years. Unfortunately, there was recently a hit and run that killed a neighbor's child. This event highlighted how little Isobel knows of the neighbors and their lives.

Now her closest neighbor friend Josie won't speak to her, her husband is acting angry and distant and a new neighbor that seems to enjoy creating havoc has moved in. What is going on in The Close? What is the new neighbor Linette up to? What can Isobel do about her marital problems and does any of this have to do with the hit and run?

I quite liked this book, I didn't guess the ending and I found that it tied up pretty neatly and with a fairly believable ending. There was enough family issues to call it a domestic thriller and enough strange moments to call it a mystery. All in all it was a great quick read about a new neighbor and how much a new individual can upset a community. If you like mysteries, thrillers and domestic stories, The New Neighbor is for you #NetGalley #TheNewNeighbor

Isobel enjoyed living on a quiet street in a neighborhood called, The Close. Everything changed however when there was a hit and run accident involving the neighbor's son Wilson Walker. The family has since moved out and has now rented the house out to a lady named Linette. Isobel thinks Linette’s arrival is a perfect chance to help repair the community. Linette is unaware of the events that occurred in The Close, but she soon finds out. First, strange things begin to happen after Linette moves in and then another death occurs. Isobel fears that her family is in danger. Who killed Wilson? Were these two deaths somehow related?

This was another entertaining read by Miranda Rijks. I loved the quick pace and exciting twists in this book. I did not predict the ending, which is always a nice surprise. Pick up, THE NEW NEIGHBOUR, if you are in the mood for a page turner. I will be looking forward to reading more of Miranda Rijks' future books.

I always enjoy novels by this author and this one is no exception. A fast paced psychological thriller that is full of suspense and twists.

Isobel lived in the in a quiet road situated in the beautiful English countryside, a lovely place to live, what could go wrong. But the atmosphere of the close changed around six months ago when a young man was killed in an hit and run incident in curious circumstances. The police undertook vast enquiries but the killer was never found and the case remained open.

The local community never returned back to normal and there was an eerie undertone and a feeling that someone knew more about the death of the young man. The young mans family moved away from the area and Linette moved into the house completely unaware of the tragic story surrounding the house. Isobel is hoping that a new neighbour will be the tonic to help repair the relationships in the area. Unfortunately someone else has a very different plan, and bad things start to happen.

Another death follows and Isobel realises her home, her marriage, and her family are all in terrible danger. She suspects that the latest happening’s are somehow connected to the hit and run and the answer to the current incidents lies with what happened six months ago.

This is a typical Miranda Rijks novel, full of suspense, fast paced plots that are genuine page turners.

Yet another amazing thriller by Miranda. She has the ability to keep the reader engrossed in the story with this book no exception. Linette moves into a house that has been empty for months following the hit and run of the son of the owners. She attempts to integrate herself with the neighbours but at the same time disturbing things start happening since she arrived. The story is told from the perspective of Isobel, one of the neighbours. I really enjoyed this story. Many thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator publishers for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review
