Loved this book it's a little slow getting into to but once it does you can't help but finish it one sitting the characters were very well written and I just loved seeing how the characters evolved with each other

I loved this book. I loved Will and Genesis. This book has almost everything I needed in an easy romance book.... enemies to lovers, workplace romance, forced proximity. I always look for stories with musical background. This book has an amazing playlist. Check'em out. The chemistry between Wil and Genesis is off the charts. It has swoon-worthy dialogues. I liked the writing too. I'm looking forward to more of Anna Salcedo's. ❤️

Dnf.
I’ve tried to read this book for MONTHS but only find myself stuck. I didn’t necessarily like that the first chapter was about her footwear. I felt like the author tried to make Genesis inner monologue quirky? And the reason for Will and Genesis hating each other was quite absurd and childish. The chapters were too long for my liking.
I loved the diversity in this book though.
I’m going to rate this book a 2 star but don’t take it seriously as I’ve not read the whole book.

If you're fans of The Spanish Love Deception and The Hating Game, then The Unexpected Fall is the perfect read for you! Full of laugh out loud, sexy and sweet rom com shenanigans, Salcedo really hits the nail with this slow burn, enemies to lovers, workplace romance story about Genesis and Will and their journey from hating each other to oh so loving each other.
As a MAJOR lover of rom-coms, I would highly recommend this debut novel!

How is this book not more popular!
The Unexpected Fall follows Genesis, an aspiring music producer who is currently a marketing assistant at a music company. When her company offers the chance to compete to write a song for an upcoming album, she jumps at it believing this is her chance to break into the field. The only catch? She has to write it with her nemesis.: Will.
This book made me all warm and fuzzy. Will is a top-tier book boyfriend. I love the "I've always loved you" more than almost anything so I adored this book. Will just loved Genesis so fully and I really enjoyed reading it, though I really wish we got a chapter or two from his point of view. I also loved reading about Genesis and her family- they were delightful.
I wish I could live in the feelings this book gave me.

TROPES:
- Enemies to Lovers
- Forced Proximity
- Office Romance
- Misunderstanding
The Unexpected Fall is the debut novel of Anna Salcedo and gave me a very strong The Spanish Love Deception + The Hating Game vibe. It is the story of Will and Genesis who, in the beginning are depicted as (sort of) enemies and when they are forced to work on a project together, things change. And well, we know how that horn toots.
For a debut novel, Anna has done a great job setting the scene and drawing the readers into the story. The way she has tackled the issue of sexism in workplace is commendable and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. The plot was pretty basic and the storyline fell apart at the seams in the originality section. However, her narration made up for most of it. Anna’s writing style is alluring most of the time. Sure, there are certain places where the novel felt like it was dragging for too long. This was the case especially during the first half when the book was filled with pages upon pages and internal monologue as opposed to character interactions and dialogues.
The dialogues were cheesy and my inner romantic couldn’t stop squealing. The chemistry between will & Genesis was off the charts and I looked forward to reading more and more of her interactions. There are also some steamy scenes in the book which are be titillating enough. The characters, in all, were coherently penned and the fact that they were diverse made me so happy. With some editing and a few tweaks here and there, this book will be amazing.
In a nutshell, this is a good novel for you to cuddle up with this Valentine’s Day or when you are in the mood for some soft romance. Trust me, this book won’t disappoint.

Calling all fans of The Spanish Love Deception!!! This is the book for you! This book hit the mark, although slow burn for the good first half of the book the pace really picked up! I couldn’t put it down. I swooned, I laughed, I cringed. This is a summer must read!! Ever grateful to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this sweet 🌶 book and review it!

3.5 stars
This was very very good.
I adored Genesis. She was very fun to read even when she was a little oblivious of what was happening around her. really like her relationship with her sister and cousin.
Now... the hero, Will is a bit tricky because for half the book I dislike him passionately but after he and Genesis were paired up to work together (around the middle of the book) things got a lot better. You could see the amazing chemistry these two had and honestly, the second half was a delight to read.
For a debut author this was remarkably good and I can't wait to read more of Anna Salcedo.

This was a really great romance, and I LOVED the setting!! I work in the audio/music industry so I loved seeing a romance set there. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Unexpected Fall definitely makes your heart skip a beat. Their relationship development has beautiful and has you cheering them on. I am a complete sucker for romance and this gave me EVERYTHING.

3.5 stars, rounded up.
I had a bit of trouble getting into this one, mostly because the Spanish interspersed throughout the beginning was totally wrong and that annoyed me. I have my fingers crossed it was fixed in edits, though. That being said, once I got more into the story, I enjoyed it. It was a solid enemies-to-lovers plot line.
I thought there was good relationship building between Will and Genesis. And decent character development for Genesis as well. However, I feel like there were quite a few things that went unresolved and left me with tons of questions. What ever happened with her cousin moving out? Why did she never tell anyone about her big dad-related secret? And considering at the start of the book they made it seem like Genesis's family got together all the time- why did we never see another family get together? I would think that would have been a big step in her relationship with Will- introducing him to her whole family.
Even though I am still wondering about those plot holes, what was in the story was good. It was sweet, yet steamy. And I am hopeful that this was setting up a series for the rest of Will's bandmates, because I love the subgenre of musician romances. Yum!

I didn't get very far, and I gave up without finishing, which is rare for me.
The style was just too boring, too expected. Too many cliches, too many unrealistic dialogues and situations for me.
It may be the right book for some, but it wasn't the right book for me.

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley and Anna for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is UNDERRATED! I am pretty sure if it wasn't for receiving this ARC via NetGalley I probably wouldn't have heard about The Unexpected Fall or Anna Salcedo, which now in my mind is an absolute crime. If you liked The Hating Game or The Spanish Love Deception PICK UP THIS BOOK!
I absolutely devoured this ARC, Forced proximity ✓ Enemies to Lovers ✓ Workplace Romance ✓ Diversity ✓
This book was such an amazing slow burn and the tension between them compliments the character development perfectly! The attention to detail Anna gave when writing Genesis and Will was stellar, the details she gave around their home lifestyles, family and friends and communication tactics made both characters seem so real even though it is only told from Genesis' point of view.
Is this book a bit cliche, yes and did the author use the wrong “your”, yes but sometimes you just need to embrace it everyone makes mistakes!
I am a bit (more than a bit) late in posting this ARC review so The Unexpected Fall is available now and is also in Kindle Unlimited - so you have no excuse to not go right now and download it!

In this workplace enemies to lovers romance, Genesis and Will get partnered with each other in a competition to get a song they create onto the company's upcoming album. This is Gensis's best shot at achieving her dream of becoming a music producer, but being paired with her workplace enemy Will is not how she wanted this to go. I loved the chemistry Genesis and Will ended up having with each other. I didn't love the pacing at the every beginning or the very end, but the middle of the book was wonderful as Genesis and Will navigate their feelings for each other.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers where the love interest has been secretly pining for the main character, and this book delivers that. I love how Will is really patient with Genesis and how he sees who she is behind the front that she shows at work. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
At a glance:
-Single POV
-Workplace romance (music industry)
-Enemies to lovers
-Forced proximity
-Slow burn
-Open door
-First generation main character (Dominican American) and love interest (Japanese American)
Content/Trigger Warnings: death of a parent (past), infidelity of a parent (past), parental absenteeism/child neglect (past), controlling/strained parental/child relationship, some sexism in the workplace

4 stars! This was sweet and everything a romance comedy should be.
Definitely for you if you enjoy:
- One sided pining
- Forced proximity
- Enemies to lovers
When Genesis is about to quit her entry level job to find one where she could have a better opportunity to become a producer, an opportunity is presented at her job. The recording company she works for opens a contest where they can submit a song for an album the company is releasing. The only problem? She’s paired with her nemesis, Will. He’s cold, boring and nothing but a pretty face who (for some reason) hates her.
All they can do is disagree each other but finally they call a truce, both wanting to win this contest. Will insists trust needs to be offered to write an amazing song and soon enough, they find themselves laughing and teasing one another. As time goes one, neither of them can help opening up to Will about their dreams and families. As Genesis’s feelings grow for this person she thought she hated, she tries to just focus on the song but realizes that maybe she’s been reading Will wrong all these years and maybe she’s not alone in these growing feelings.

This one was sweet and fun! I enjoyed it once the book started moving a little more. The beginning (like the first 35%) was really dragging. I though about how it needed to lay a foundation but I feel like it went into too much detail since some of those things never really came back in the book. Genesis’s familial issues seemed deep and like it would be a future issue in the relationship but it just seemed like something that was mentioned many times before and then something that was just magically fixed when it came time to get serious about her relationship with Will. I was waiting for it to come up but it never did especially for how traumatic it would be to a teenager.
Genesis and Will’s chemistry was great and I adored them on the pages together. Again, nothing happened between them for the first 35% of the book but the remaining 65% did make up for it (like really made up for it considering I gave it a 4 star rating). Will’s sweet words were dreamy and warm. He was the epitome of a fictional man written by a woman like yes, where do I find one like this?!
The moments of culture and family were great and usually I enjoy them so much although I felt like her relationship with her sister and details about her extended family were useless details that could’ve been used towards Will and Gensis’s romance. I suppose I’m just someone who likes being dropped right into the action of things and some people may be interested in all the details like that.
Thanks you Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I found the tone of the main character to be a bit grating so this was a book that I did not finish. Normally, enemies-to-lovers is my favorite trope but I struggled so badly with the main character that I could not continue reading.
Thank you to Netgalley for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Reminiscent of The Hating Game and The Spanish Love Deception, The Unexpected Fall by Anna Salcedo was a one-sided enemies to lovers, office romance that was so dang sweet and (eventually) spicy as hell.
It was awesome to see the representation here, as both were first generation immigrants, with Genesis as Dominican Republican-American, and Will as Japanese-American. Both had a lot of love for their families, but tricky relationships and memories related to their parents. Genesis is a marketing assistant at Siren Records, and Will works in accounting. A song-writing contest puts them together, as both actually have dreams of careers in music, with Genesis having a background in song writing and producing, and Will is a singer with his own following in local bars and online.
The whole book is in Genesis’s POV, but you also get to learn about Will’s background, family, and friends. I loved Genesis’s family, in particular the relationship with her younger sister, Alejandra, and cousin, Yari.
Overall, a very enjoyable read! I definitely recommend it if you love office romances, romances that take place in the music industry, and with main characters who have somewhat complicated family relationships.
The Unexpected Fall is available now and is also in Kindle Unlimited.
Thank you to Netgalley, and Anna Salcedo for an advanced copy version of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily, and all opinions are my own.

Genesis Gonzalez, an assistant at Siren Music Records with aspirations to create music, spends painful hours at work answering emails and avoiding Will Kobayashi.
Her mission is made completely impossible when the pair are partnered in a company-wide contest wherein two employees can earn the opportunity to have their song featured on a collaborative album—a dream come true for both Genesis and Will.
While I believe this book will be widely-enjoyed by many it didn’t check all the boxes for me so I’ve split this review into a few pros/cons so you may decide if it might be your cup of tea.
Pros:
- I deeply admired and appreciated the genuine and accessible representation of diverse romance with a Dominican-American heroine and Japanese-American hero; equally, I loved their family interactions and felt these relationships were portrayed so organically!
- Salcedo executes traditional romance tropes (enemies-to-lovers, office romance, forced proximity, slow burn) with refreshing originality through the music industry setting, diverse characters and creative contest concept
Cons
- What pulled me from wholly immersing myself and enjoying this was writing style—at times I felt the grammar choppy, language repetitive and excessive use of “that” disrupted the flow of my reading

The unexpected fall
*Thank you Netgalley for sending me an arc*
That book was good but not my thing, I wasn't really into it and it took a lot of time for them to get to each other or even talk and see how they communicate with each other. I can see some people enjoying it but I didn't. I skimmed halfway through it.
