Closed room murder mysteries are my favorite, especially when the characters are trapped somewhere remote and don't know who, if anyone, will survive the night. I really enjoyed the different characters and their stories. I was engrossed in unravelling the mystery and had to know who the killer was and why. Solid mystery by a new-to-me author. I will have to check out her other books.

Wow if you love a, who done it and lots of chaos. This thriller is for you! Lol. 7 characters is a tad too many for me to be keeping track of. Thankfully the author mentioned who was speaking at each chapter.

All of the characters are very very different but also have some similarities or lots of lies......this reminds me of the movie Clue where everyone has secrets...

Lauren is a HUGE BITCH. Sorry I don't like her and she is just a horrible human. While everyone else has some negative sides to them she is just plain nasty to everyone!!!!! Blaming your deaf sister for everything is just insane.

I will be honest being lost in a wildlife preserve while snowing at night with a murderer somewhere would definitely be a huge HELL NO lol. In the middle it did get a little repetitive.

I thought I would really like this book but I found it to be just ok. The characters are a bit one dimensional and some come across as very immature. Other then that the story moved very slowly and I found myself skimming the pages.

This book was a little hard for me to follow with so many POV's. It was a slow read, but the final twist made it overall enjoyable.
I really loved that one of the characters (Emily) is deaf. What a fantastic way to bring some deaf awareness. :)

The synopsis of this novel had me intrigued. Seven friends go into a nature preserve to watch a bird murmuration and only six come back out - who killed whom? It's anyone's guess.

Except...they're not friends. I don't think a single person in this group truly liked anyone else. I had a hard time believing they put up with each other even enough to make it through one bird watching session regardless of their motives. The fact that there were seven narrators made things extremely muddy - they all blended into each other and I had a hard time keeping up with who was who and what motives they had as the book progressed. It felt like there were too many irons in the fire, both in POV and in "drama" - we had family drama, stalkers, poachers, revenge...everything was thrown in there but nothing truly got hot enough to spark.

Sipping thoughts: I love Nell Pattison’s way of writing. This was another one setting whodunit. Once you start reading this you will accuse every character of being the killer. At one point I accused the victim himself, lol. If you like the “group of people together, all with secrets, all with motive” books then this is the one for you. And the last few sentences in the book is the cherry on the sundae. I look forward to the next Pattison books-I REALLY hope it is the next in the series of Paige Northwood (Silent) series.

Unpopular opinion, I think, but I did not love this book. While each character was properly introduced, all 7 of them quickly became interchangeable to me and it was very difficult to discern them. They all had their own secrets to keep up with, and yes, things converged, but it was scattered for me. The plot was enjoyable, reveals and twists abound, but the character stuff just lost me. Thankful for the ARC.

3.5 star for me! the shock and the twist was great and I felt like this had a typical storyline where one of them is a killer among the friend group. But overall the writing was good and I finished it and enjoyed it myself.

This is the third book I have read by this author and I have enjoyed all of them. An isolated nature preserve sets the stage for murder. Seven friends go out to bird watch and only six come back. One of them is a killer, but who? Everyone of them has a secret. One secret proves to be deadly. This story demonstrates that actions and decisions have consequences. Some consequences may result in murder! This slow burn mystery was entertaining with many unexpected twists. The final twist was shocking and clever. Thank you NetGalley and Harper 360 for my copy.

I thought this was going to be another one of those “friends get together and someone dies”, but it’s actually a group gathering on Christmas at a nature reserve who are tangentially related by their interest in…nature reserves, I guess? (Sorry, city girl here.) Oh, I remember, they are bird watchers and there is some scheduled murmuration (I love that word!) that they want to witness. Except that no one is really there for the murmuration (well, maybe one character and that’s the one that dies first). I probably won’t say much more because I don’t have much nice to say – most of the characters were unlikable;the only likable one was a PoC who ended up being a criminal, which felt icky to me. Several of the twists were quite clearly telegraphed. The final twist was batshit, and not in a good way. I need to figure out a way to avoid these suspense books with very dark endings, because that’s not something I really enjoy. My grade for Nowhere to Hide is a C-.

Good book, pulls you in.

I really enjoyed Nell Pattison's first Stand-alone book. It's a quick and entertaining read that was a nice break from heavy subjects a lot of my recent reads have contained.
I loved the isolated setting of the woods... especially in Winter!!! A group of 7 people in A Nature Group are celebrating Boxing Day with a hike into a Nature Reserve for some bird watching. Though the Reserve is closed for the Holiday, the group had gotten permission to use the grounds. This group of 7 we NOT friends.... In fact, there's a lot of resentment among all the Members. Especially from Lauren regarding her deaf Sister Emily. Emily has never let her hearing loss hold her back and has enjoyed a lot of success following an App she created for the Hearing Impaired. Lauren, who has to bust her hump just to make ends meet is definitely very resentful. Morna doesn't get on with Lauren because she feels SHE should be the group leader. Ben seems nice enough. He's a bit shy and the feelings he has for Emily borders on obsession. Dan, the newest member, is very quiet and keeps to himself. He's still feeling from the loss of his Wife and Child. And Kai rubs EVERYONE the wrong way with his arrogance and condescension. Then there's Alec. He claims to the group that he knows all of their dirty secrets. Is he telling the truth? Did he just say this or of anger to get under their skin?
As this group gets into the hike, it starts to snow and they divide up to climb the various tree stands for a clear view of the Starlings. Suddenly a gun shot rings out. Now one of them are dead and another of them are the murderer. But which one?
This is where the tempo picks up speed. They are alone in the Woods (remember.. the reserve is closed), it's snowing, it's now getting dark, and one of them just killed someone. If that's not a seriously creepy situation then I don't know what is!!!! At this point they decide to split into 2 groups to try and find help. From here, panic ensues. Everyone is running frantically through the woods, unable to find the way out. They are lost, scared, some injured and fully aware they could be the next victim. The pace hits full speed as we are given more information. The Author has a few twists up her sleeve and I was happy with the ending.
Overall, this is very enjoyable with the creepy feels and the tension of not knowing who is the killer. As with her previous books, we have a character who is deaf. There are a lot of very interesting facts regarding this topic as well as on bird watching that I found only enriched the reading experience. Another very well done book by this author and I eagerly await the next book!!!! A great read... especially for after dark. Whew! That was intense. From the first page to the last, the tension and suspense was built up and maintained throughout. Told from the POV of all 7 characters, it did get confusing at times and I found myself getting characters mixed up - I think a little more character background and development in the beginning would have helped this. But I still thoroughly enjoyed this claustrophobic, trapped in one location, whodunnit. I was guessing right up until the reveal, and appreciated that there was still a bit of a surprise twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. This was my first Nell Pattison book, but won't be my last!

Nowhere to Hide is your classic, who-dunnit thriller. Set on a nature reserve, 7 friends get together to watch a bid maturation. Told from 7 different POVs, there's a murder, shock, fall out, and the group splitting up and trying to survive.

Starting off, this book pulled me in with the cover and the synopsis. I love a thriller set in the elements... always a "yes" for me. The beginning of the story is strong; the author does a stellar job introducing and giving history to all 7 characters. Each character was rich, with a secret or two to uncover.

The writing was solid. I liked the dialogue and interaction between characters. The plot was wildly complicated and it definitely kept me intrigued.

I liked this book enough to finish it but there were some issues. The pacing really struggles after the murder; so so so slow. I found myself skimming most of the details and almost didn't finish it. I think part of the pacing problems had to do with too many characters. I know I called out the introductions of each character a strength, but it definitely weighs the book down.

I didn't see the ending coming and think this is still a solid read for those that can't get enough of the thriller genre.

I absolutely love Nell Pattinson's book. They are instant requests for me here on NetGalley and I have yet to be disappointed. I always appreciate the light she sheds on the deaf community. The way she writes her thrillers always keep me guessing, and Nowhere to Hide did not disappoint. The ending is a total trip!

Decent mystery thriller with a few shortcomings. Too many pov characters and way too much chasing and build up before the reveal. I loved the character of Emily and the experiences of living without hearing seemed authentic. The ending was a bit over the top.

This story missed the mark for me in so many places. I usually enjoy a multiple POV thriller whodunnit storyline but the writing was trying to do so much that it underserved in a way. Instead of foreshadowing and implying doubt on characters, the author wrote several paragraphs as to why each character could be a suspect. It felt so elementary. I really struggled to finish this one.

A group of friends ( and I use that term loosely) out on a hike…what could go wrong? Well, a lot. For starters, a killer is picking off members of the group. Is it someone they know? An outsider? Who will make it out of the woods?
Great thriller, will be looking for more from this author!

Seven friends. One killer. You can run, but you can’t hide…

First of all, yikes, I definitely felt/still feel a little bit like the odd-one-out once l finished this book and came onto Goodreads to review, because a lot of people are rating this book a 5, 4, or 3 star….

But it is what it is.

Although, I will say, this is my own opinion. That being said, someone else who really enjoyed it, is not wrong for having that opinion and may have picked up on some pros to the story that I did not, making it a better read for them.

And that is okay!

I am a little disappointed though, because I wanted to like this book. I was so looking forward to it. The synopsis sounded good… the cover was intriguing… the multiple storylines… just the whole concept in general reeled me in, but I guess in the end it just wasn’t enough to make it a great read for me.

To me, the writing was bland. Sometimes I found myself being so bored. It just reads very slow, because of how much extra detail(s) and background information is in the story and on the characters that I felt was just unnecessary. A lot of the information felt like it was just there to fill space, everything was just dragged out.

I honestly wanted to keep reading in hopes that it would get better because my last read was a DNF, so I held onto this one. I will say there is a lot more enjoyable parts of the story this time that kept me from marking DNF, but once I got to the end, I questioned if I should have even stayed. I would hold off from this one.

Prior to requesting Nowhere to Hide, I had just concluded reading Silent House and absolutely loved it. To request Nowhere to Hide, was a no brainer.

I have always been a fan of Nell Pattison's books and his writing style . Nowhere to Hide, is no different, this is sure to be a hit amongst his fans and soon to be fans.

Nowhere to Hide, is a standalone, which is nice compared to the usual series. I have been having commitment issues lately and like to bounce around between authors and genre's. Knowing that this would have a conclusion and not be left with a cliffhanger, was a breath of fresh air.

This is a character driven, murder mystery novel that will have you guessing right up until the very end. Once I started, I was unable to put this one down. The suspense completely consumed me.

Seven people at a closed park for a nature hike? Cue the eerie music, this just sets the tone for the fear that is about to explode amongst this group.

Filled with secrets, twists and turns, this is sure to be a page turner for anyone who decides to pick this one up. Oh, and the ending? You wont see this one coming!
