I really enjoyed ALL THAT IT TAKES and recommend it for fans of Christian fiction and clean romance.

At first, I felt like I was sort of missing something, like I'd been dropped into the story. Well... come to find out, this is a sequel. Ha! That explains it... I probably should've read the description more closely.

However, I'm really glad I stuck with it and, upon reflection, I truly don't think you need to have read the first one before diving in to this one.

Val and Miles are well-crafted, complex characters with genuine emotions and hardships. Deese does a fantastic job of taking the reader along for the ride -- both the ups and downs.

Ultimately full of heart, this novel's ending provides a satisfying conclusion to the characters' journeys.

I loved everything about this book! The main characters, Val and Miles, are fabulous; they just feel REAL, with depth and real struggles and real strengths and weaknesses. They were so relatable as they had to deal with disappointments and fears and figuring out their paths in life. The plot also really pulled me in right from the get-go and there weren't any moments that dragged. The messages in this book--including seeing how God leads us through disappointments or change sin plans to end up exactly where we want to be, how our talents can help us find our personal ministries, and the need for connections and help from others in our lives. were powerful but not heavy-handed. This book is just so well-written, with humorous moments to balance out the serious topics--and the ending was just perfect!

I read an ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I liked this author fun, fresh voice in thought-provoking, Contemporary Christian Fiction, storytelling. This is the sequel to All that Really Matters. Each can be read as a standalone, but so much better together.

In this novel we get to fully know Val Locklier and Tucker as they set out on a courageous journey to Spokane, Washington to work for her dear friend, Molly in her new business adventure. Things get off to a shaky start as Molly’s brother Miles McKenzie and Molly have a misunderstanding about her brethren’s new tenants. At the same time, Val gets an unexpected invitation to an elite filmmaker’s mentorship which has been her forever dream. Dare she hope she could make it into the finals.

Pastor Miles McKenzie is having a crisis of faith when his boss tells him to take over the ministry at Riverside Community center. This was not on his hopes and dreams list. It was a dying ministry that included a clinic to help pregnant teen moms. He shows Val Locklier the clinic, and they start brainstorming on how to reach people, bring them in the doors and maybe pump life back into this ministry. Little do either of them know how this ministry would change both of their lives. I liked how the author talked about how we are made for community and shows what that might look like.

This author creates a powerful storyline through Miles and Val’s character that is authentic, believable, and has a surprising depth that brought tears to my eyes and hope to my heart as I’m reminded that God moves in mysterious ways, as He works all things to His glory and our good. You’ll be thinking about these characters and the story long after you close the book. This is a novel works well for book club and is one you don’t want to miss.

All That It Takes is the follow up to Nicole Deese's All That Really Matters. This book tells Val and Miles story, both of whom we were initially introduced to in the previous novel. While I would certainly recommend reading the previous book to get a little more backstory (and frankly, it's just a great read), I do believe this would be just fine as a standalone as well.

One of the things that I really loved about the previous novel was that it was a beautiful blend of romance and faith, while also managing to handle some more sensitive and important topics. I found the same to be true for this one as well. The chemistry between Val and Miles was sweet and enjoyable, with bits of humor mixed in--- thanks in large part to Tucker and his inability to keep secrets... I definitely feel like he added so much to this story! Beyond that though, there were beautiful messages of faith and the importance of community, taking on the topic of unexpected pregnancy in a way that was absolutely wonderful. I must admit I found myself reaching for the tissues more than once with this one.

Overall, I found it to be a really enjoyable read and one that has cemented Nicole Deese on my 'must read' list.

**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

All That It Takes pulls at your heartstrings while also making you laugh out loud. But even more than that, it carries such a beautiful message that is so relatable to many. The storyline explores tough topics such as abortion, adoption, single parenting and physical pain, but is an easy read and not heavy. The main characters, Val and Miles, are both confronted with obstacles on their own and in their relationship. The supporting characters range in age, gender and dynamics - I wanted to get to know them all and felt that I did by the end of the book. The story develops exposing their personal imperfections, but also allowing them to discover spiritual truths. You can feel the emotions of the characters and will find yourself rooting them on. It is not often I highlight passages in a fiction book, but the message of faith was so beautifully woven in that it stirred deep within my soul. I wanted to come back and read it again. Although it is a spin off of Deese's previous book, All That Really Matters, it can be read as a stand alone as it explores the secondary characters.  Nicole Deese has quickly become an author that I am impatiently waiting for the next book. All That It Takes will certainly be one of my top reads for 2022.

Val is a beautiful, needy vulnerable soul. I loved getting to know her in this story. She takes a huge risk and moves across the country with her son, to begin a new job for her friend Molly.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t quite work out as expected, and Val finds herself facing other opportunities.
This is also the story of Miles, Molly’s twin brother.
I loved seeing the relationship between him and Val progress.
Nicole Deese writes books filled with feeling and depth, and this one is quite possibly her best yet.

I loved seeing both Miles and Val grow in their relationship with God, too.
This story is touching and deals with some hard things, relatable to all of us.

I loved this book! All That It Takes picks up where Deese’s previous book left off; single mom, Val, has come with her son, Tucker, to live near Molly and ends up renting an apartment from Molly’s twin brother Miles. Nicole Deese doesn’t shy away from tough topics like abortion and the difficulties of megachurches, but writes with such heart and humor that readers will fall in love with all the characters.

Wow..... that's all I can say about this book. This book touched some very deep places in me. I discovered Nicole Deese a couple of years ago with her "adoption" book "Before I Called You Mine", which was one of my top reads for that year. While this one doesn't top that one in my opinion, it's right up there with it and will easily be one of my top reads for this year. For fans of the author who have read "All that Really Matters", this book follows some of the minor characters from that book - Val (Molly's virtual assistant) and Miles (Molly's brother). If you haven't read "All that Really Matters", you'll still be able to enjoy this book as the story stands well on its own, but fans of the prior book will be glad to see Molly and Silas pop up again and see how married life is treating them - as well as seeing the story for Val and Miles.

Val was scarred by both an accident in her youth and the relationship that resulted in the birth of her son Tucker. When we meet Val, we know she's a single mother with a limp who is super tech savvy and sweet, but exceptionally introverted. Miles is an outreach pastor for a large church that is ending the support of their international outreaches, much to Miles' dismay. When Val rents the apartment above Miles' house, they become better acquainted. In this story, both characters have a major obstacle to overcome and both have stories to tell. This book chronicles their growth and development - both as individuals and eventually as a couple. There was a solid faith thread as Miles comes to terms with the trajectory the church has put him on and Val learns to trust in God more deeply, and recognizes his hand in her past. The romance felt a bit fast, but it was sweet and I had to remind myself that the characters have history through their shared affection for Molly. There were a number of deep topics including feelings of abandonment and loneliness, as well as abortion, adoption and single parenthood. Themes of healing and forgiveness abound as well. There were a lot of feelings going on throughout. This book had me laughing out loud in various places and openly weeping in others. The story was simply beautiful and it's one I'll not forget.

Special thanks to the author and publisher for an advance copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

All That it Takes is another fantastic Nicole Deese book to add to my shelf! This story was full of emotion, humor, and heart. Nicole Deese has a way of allowing characters to work through deep and hard issues without making a story heavy and that is the perfect balance for me! The layers of growth that these characters undergo is paced perfectly with the romance and this author is not afraid to highlight the parts of our hearts we keep hidden through her characters. Miles and Val had a comfortable chemistry right from the start. Their friendship was like a fuzzy blanket and a warm cup of tea. Val’s son Tucker even endeared himself to me! Y’all know I don’t prefer a kid in the mix of my romance novel, however Tucker really added a brightness and perspective to the story that was appreciated and necessary for the plot! The spiritual these throughout this book are front and center and real and I love how this author is able to represent faith and struggles in a genuine way. I really loved this book!

Last year, Nicole Deese’s book “All That Really Matters” was one of my favorites of the year. I was excited for “All That It Takes” but I wasn’t sure if it’d live up to it. Wow, just wow! “All That It Takes” blew me away. Every thread wove together perfectly and the story held so much power. I loved it and am waiting with batter breath for the next thing Nicole Deese writes.

All That It Takes by Nicole Deese is a sequel to All That Really Matters. However, it can be read as a stand alone. This book features Val and MIles. I love them. They have so much depth and want so much to make a difference in the world. Miles is a missions pastor. Val is a single mom who tells stories from behind a camera. Her son Tucker steals the show. He is adorable. I loved every page. I was hooked from the beginning. I am very inspired and I am encouraged by the message from this fantastic read. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves romance and inspiring characters. Characters who are flawed but who overcome and are being the hands and feet of Jesus.
*I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

Fantastic read. MIles and Val are relatable characters who are trying their best to live the way God wants them to live. But, they are human also, and make mistakes, like we all do. Nicole Deese does not shy away from these issues, but brings them to the forefront without glossing over them. One scene that stands out to me is the argument between Val and Miles. It is hard to say this about a fight, but it was done so well! The jabs that they took at each other is something we have all done. And, of course, in the end, the happily ever after came, which is my favorite part of any book.
Excellent book and a must read. I promise you will not be disappointed.

I love when minor characters in one book become main characters in another! Nicole Deese writes another excellent story that weaves the theme of trauma, adoption, crisis pregnancy, outreach, and storytelling into All That It Takes. A book with authentic characters who unknowingly are hanging on to past hurts that are influencing their current choices. When both of their worlds come crumbling down, will they be able to pick back up the pieces and press forward?

Another great story from Nicole Deese! This book is part of a series but there is no way in reading this story that it feels like it. Strong characters and plot that goes in places you don’t expect. I loved it and was so glad to have the chance to read it. Readers of Christian contemporary romance fiction will love this!

All That It Takes is a fantastic sequel to All That Really Matters by author Nicole Deese. Either one can be read as stand-alone but you really will love reading them both!

All That It Takes is a fantastic sequel to All That Really Matters by author Nicole Deese. Either one can be read as stand-alone but you really will love reading them both!

All That It Takes is a beautiful Christian contemporary story that delves into the lives of Val Locklier, who makes a courageous move with her son Tucker from her parents home in Alaska to Spokane, Washington to help her best friend Molly with her new business. She seriously contemplates an invitation for an elite filmmaker's mentorship which is her really where her interests & talents lie. Molly's brother Pastor Miles McKenzie just returned from ministry abroad to find he has a new tenant, and he is put in charge of a local dying ministry that isn't his area of expertise, including a clinic to help pregnant teen moms. I love his mentor "Rev". "So tell me Miles, what's not wrong with your life?" "His signature question of the last decade was more than just an opener I'd come to expect, but a five-minute exercise in gratitude."

Nicole Deese writes such authentic characters, beautiful storylines, and with such humor and depth that it's really a treat to read her stories. You will root for Val as she navigates being a single Mom, a courageous move, and her physical disability, you will love Miles as he tries to find his way after a huge church reorganization, chuckle with Tuck's inability to keep much a secret, and want to help Carlee with her unplanned pregnancy, and definitely want to work with Lady Gwen.

I got a kick out of the playful texting and humorous banter between Val and Miles, and their servant hearts. Be prepared to go through all the challenges right with these characters as they find out where God is leading them.

Courage, managing expectations, serving others, and finding your purpose are some of the themes in this beautiful story.

I highly recommend All That It Takes by Nicole Deese. Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

ALL THAT IT TAKES is another most enjoyable and inspirational novel by NICOLE DEESE with very real characters and a lovely story.
When Val moves to Spokane from Alaska with her ten year old son Tucker to take on a permanent position with her best friend Molly McKenzie, things do not turn out as she expects them to.
When Pastor Miles McKenzie arrives home late one night from his mission work in Mexico, that has just been terminated by the elders of Salt and Light church, he is surprised to find Val and Tucker living in his upstairs apartment.
It is a story about broken people finding restoration and joy, especially when they help others who are going through the same sort of problems. It is about relationships and family, and following where the Lord leads, rather than running away or hiding from difficult situations. This author is really good at describing her characters’ emotions and integrating a good Christian message into her novels. There is also a heartwarming romance and some humour, the latter mostly involving Tucker! I cannot recommend All That it Takes highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

I loved this read!!

I read Deese's book _All That Really Matters_ a year ago at this time, and absolutely loved it--and _All That It Takes_ is even better. Truly. It's also timely as we sort of, kind of, maybe come out of the pandemic?--I hope? LOL!--because it reminds me of the importance of being involved in my local church and community, and compels me (in the best way) to do so.

Having been involved at church in varying degrees and ministries over the years, I could relate a good deal to both Miles and Val, as well. Both story arcs lent depths to those experiences, and oh boy, are the two characters relatable! Vividly brought to life, flawed (as are we all), and yet, talk about iron sharpening iron!

Fantastic book; a 5-star rating for this Q1 2022 read.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Nicole Deese has once again written a book with a powerful spiritual punch, delving into the many layers of the soul. This one features Val, who made an appearance in her last book, although they can be read as stand alones. Val has left everything she is familiar with in Alaska, living with her parents as a single mother, to move to Washington state for a job with her best friend. Miles returns from a missions trip to find changes have taken place in his ministry that he is not the least bit happy about.

Situations happen here that cause both Val and Miles to re-evaluate their stances on their life and it's not a pleasant experience for either of them. Val's story is powerful in itself, but it was Miles's story that really pounded my heart. You see, to hear from God, we must actually listen to Him. Even in the hard things. This story will minister to many, I am so sure. I was crying during many scenes. Truly a job well done.

My thanks to Bethany House Publishers for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion in this review is entirely my own.

Oh, my word. What an amazing book? I've read all three of this author's traditionally published works, and boy, she always packs a punch. I loved this book. I liked Miles before, and Val, and I was so happy to see that this was a continuation of the prior book. I was not at all disappointed. This book is intense in all the right ways. It will linger for quite a while.

Last year, I discovered Nicole Deese after having a book of hers recommended to me over and over. Well, now I’m the one doing the recommending!

All That It Takes is a tremendous book. Tremendous. It’s the kind of story that reaches into your heart and gives you things to think about in your real life… and introduces you to fictional characters you wish were part of your real life. This story is a sequel to the truly outstanding All That Really Matters, and while this one stands on its own, there’s a special reward for those who read them in order, fully understanding Val’s journey and transformation on the pages of All That It Takes.

Val and Miles’ story is special and unique and intricately layered with emotion from past scars, internal uncertainty, external conflicts, and beautiful resolution. Prepare to fall in love with Val (if you didn’t already for her heart and friendship with Molly from the first book), 10 year old Tucker (who steals every scene he graces), and sweet, wonderful, flawed-yet-still-absolutely-perfect Miles.

Prepare to root for Val’s dreams, hope it doesn’t take Miles too long figure out everything, laugh at Tucker’s inability to keep a secret, want to hug Carlee, wish you could video chat with Lady Gwen, and overall practically burst with every kind of joyful, heartbreaking, and heartfelt emotion.

Not only does Nicole Deese deliver a skillfully crafted story wrought with emotion and unforgettable characters, she summons deep introspection in the hearts of her readers. Am I a good neighbor and friend? What is God calling me to that might be different than what I thought? How do our comfort zones hold us back? And the beautiful reminder that even though we might now always see it, sometimes all that it takes is one person/moment/caring conversation to change a life.

Applause and all the stars for this shining example of what Christian Fiction is supposed to be.

I was so grateful to receive an advanced copy of this book for review from NetGalley and Bethany House. My opinions are my own and I was not required to write a positive review.
