The Girl Who Knew Too Much by Tiffany Brooks is a wonderful YA mystery that has a little bit of everything for someone: a treasure hunt reality show, a main character with a reputation to repair, and characters that can't be trusted. This was a really interesting book about our main character, who made a terrible mistake that shattered her reputation and caused her to be expelled from her high school. In order to repair her reputation, she goes on a treasure hunting reality show - but what the other contestants don't know is that her uncle died searching for the same treasure on the same island and she has been there before. As she navigates relationships on a show similar to Survivor, her reputation, and her family ties to the cause, she begins to uncover a mystery she didn't know existed on the island.

4/5 stars, I really enjoyed this one!

Reality Show Teen Thriller.

We follow Riley who is looking to re-invent herself in the eyes of her peers. We went through some trouble at her old school that lead to losing friends and being a meme. She figures if she finds a lost treasure that people has been looking for, it will give her a better narrative than the one she has now.

The show she joins reminds me of survivor in a sense. I wish there was more "thrilling" moments. There were a couple of twists that occur, but nothing that left me overly shocked or surprised. Overall, this book is an average read that was enjoyable.

Thank you for the publisher, author, and NetGalley for allowing me an early listen to this book.

I couldn't get through this one. The idea is excellent and I loved that the author added snippets of behind the scenes of a reality show. I gave it three stars for that but I couldn't finish. It wasn't keeping my interest and it was too far fetched for me.

Riley is looking for something big to change her image. After a “meme” mishap, she needs something that is going to improve her reputation. Enter a Survivor-esque reality television show on an island Riley has history with. She could win the show, find the missing treasure, and save her reputation all at once. However, things don’t go as smoothly as she wants. She will have to face a cursed island, conniving adults, and scheming teenagers.

I listened to The Girl Who Knew Too Much on audio. This was angsty and mysterious and I loved every second of it. Of course, every character aggressively annoyed me, as do most YA characters. Still, I was hooked by the treasure hunt/mystery aspect and really found myself rooting for Riley. I especially loved the narration and discovered I couldn’t listen to this without becoming distracted as it played like a movie in my head. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a YA mystery!

This part Indiana Jones, part Survivor combined my favorite pulse racing challenges into a really fun, but campy book. I read this in a single sitting, it was so much fun. While I do feel like the treasure hunt could have been more, it was just enough for a cold afternoon. I do think the title is a little misleading. To me, the title reads like a thriller, but I felt like this book was more of an adventure.

The tag line for this book is "Survivor meets Lord of the Flies" but I think it should be "Survivor meets Tomb Raider".

I switched between reading the ebook and listening to the audiobook and both formats were enjoyable. This book started out really strong and started to lose me towards the very end. But due to spoilers I won't say what bugged me. Luckily I did stick with it and I'm glad I did because that bugging feeling didn't last long! I enjoyed the reality tv aspect with the twist of treasure hunting. This idea felt fresh and definitely made me want to keep reading to find out what was going to happen.

Riley was such a great main character. She was an outcast that is full of flaws/personality. I can definitely see a lot of readers being able to connect and relate to her. There were a lot of side characters and the author did a great job of giving them their own backstory and characteristics. I didn't care for all of them but instead had my favorites that I was rooting. This always happens when it comes to reality tv!

One thing I could have done without was the light romance in the story. Personally, I didn't see the need for Riley to have a love interest. I would have much preferred if she focused more on herself and trying to mature rather than have a insta love/obsession with a certain character.

Overall, this was a great YA thriller. It will keep your interest throughout and will make you guess what's truly going on. I recommend reading this book over a few days rather than in one sitting so it's like you're reading episodes of a show!

Thanks to NetGalley for audio ARC.

I had high hopes for this book. A teen reality show set on an island with a mystery, sign me up. I was really into the book for the first 25%. After that, the characters started to fall flat. At first, there were too many characters to keep track of. Riley's love interest was also as exciting as a wet paper bag. She also complained about him constantly until she magically was into him.

I thought that the book would be more focused on the reality show. Really, that aspect was more for setting than actual plot. The main focus really is the treasure hunt.

I wanted more thrills, excited, and reality show drama. Also, some more diverse characters. I'm tired of YA books full of white characters who fall into "jock, emo, influencer" stereotypes.

The concept of this book is super fun. This book is essentially Survivor or The Challenge for teenagers. 20 Teens have the opportunity to beat a few challenges and either win a million dollars or find a buried treasure on a deserted island that legends says will need 7 people to die before it reveals itself.

I was very torn between the book not having enough suspense and the fact that these teenagers were essentially unsupervised throughout this experience. Things you normally expect like love, deceit, and a plot twist are all present. It just didn't hit the mark for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I had hoped that this was going to be a great book, but I was bored throughout. The concept sounded good, but it did not hold my interest. Thank you for giving me the chance in reviewing the story.

I had big hopes for this YA novel featuring a survivalist reality show and a hidden treasure. The narrator was perfect for the role, but the ending was somewhat unfulfilling. I would recommend this to readers that enjoy watching Survivor and The Challenge.

This was such a fun book with so many twists! 'The Girl Who Knew Too Much' really reminded me of Survivor and I loved this concept! It was fun to see how the reality TV aspect affected many of the characters relationships and urge to get to the end and win the prize.. or find the hidden gold! I think what I would've enjoyed reading more of would be the eerie or thriller aspect of this location. Overall great novel and I would rate a 3/5 stars. I enjoyed the audiobook narrator as well - I liked how she put different emphasis on certain characters.

Thank you again for letting me listen to this novel.

The Girl Who Knew Too Much by Tiffany Brooks is a fun teen thriller combining the outline of reality T.V.'s Survivor, and a murderous Hidden Temple

At 17 privileged Riley finds herself needing to reinvent her image after an embarrassing school event and social media snafu. So of course she goes on a teen reality show where 17 year olds are dropped on an island to compete in games and find a real life hidden treasure. The lore of the island says 7 must die before it can be found and 6 are dead!

Narrator Stephanie Willing makes this YA thriller audiobook fun nailing the angst of these teenagers in her performance. A few twists keep it suspenseful.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the publishers via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

This book reminded me of a YA Survivor series. It's set on a beautiful island with a bunch of random (so we think) teenagers trying to win the grand prize, but also search for a treasure that is buried on the island.

Riley is wanting to redeem her image. She was recently involved in a scandal at school and thinks going on a game show will change everything for the better. There she meets the typical cast of characters-the nerd, the jock, the goth girl, the influencer, etc. to vie for the grand prize of being the lone contestant not getting voted off the island. No one knows she got onto the show because her dad is mega rich and helping with products for the show. But then again, none of the group are as they seem. The group has to do challenges and learn to trust each other, but will they find the treasure and who will win the game.

The book was great. I will definitely put in the hands of my students in my library. My only big complaint is the cover. It doesn't fit the book at all.

This was such an intriguing premise to me as I’m a huge reality tv fan, with Survivor being one of my favourites!

Drop 20 teens on island and make them compete for a million dollars? What could possibly go wrong! Oh yeah, the islands cursed too 😉

This was a fun and thrilling YA book that I found to be very atmospheric and I really enjoyed the lord of the flies vibe as well! I’d love to see it adapted and think the show within a show aspect is always entertaining!

3.5 rounded to 4 for goodreads

This book was not what I expected at all. I expected more of a who done it kind of thing instead of a scavenger hunt thing. The story and idea bashing this book was well thought out and really good, however it just wasn’t for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for the arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was really excited to read this book after reading the description, however it didn’t live up to it. The narrator was one of the few that I just didn’t want to keep listening to. The story itself was a little boring and predictable.

The concept was good but there was too much focus on stereotypical drama. The main character should have been more focused on finding the treasure instead of being obsessed with a boring boy she just met and barely interacted with.

They say seven must die before the treasure is revealed.

After becoming her schools pariah, Riley joins a TV show where her and 19 other teenagers are dropped off an island where they are to do survivor like challenges and voting to send other players home. But there’s a twist, if they are able to find the treasure they will also get a prize for doing so. Riley has an advantage on the other players though. She has been to the island before and has experience with hunting for the treasure. She also knows this is opportunity to change her image that others believe of her. What could go wrong?

The characters in this story are mostly unique aside from the extras in the background. You have a interesting group of strangers at the beginning but as you get to know the key characters the story really starts to build into a fast pace story.

Riley herself is a typical teenage girl. She’s just looking for a place to fit in again after losing all her friends. But at the same time she’s also so focused on the treasure that you can tell how much finding it means to her.

One of the things I don’t get is in the synopsis this story is referred to as survivor meets lord of the flies. You definitely feel the survior connection but this story is more like survivor for young adults. The only reference to lord of the flies I really felt was a group of teenagers on an island. It’s not like there’s a bunch of teenagers attempting to murder each other and no adults in sight. This story is so much more than that and honestly so much better in my opinion. I really enjoyed this story and had a hard time turning the audiobook off.

NARRATION REVIEW

I really enjoyed this audibook. It was well done and read in away that keeps you emerged. I wished I had a day to just sit and listen to the whole book in one sitting. It was definitely an intense story at times and Stephanie Willings did an excellent job bring the story to life with her reading of the girl who knew too much. This audiobook will not disappoint.

I listened to the audiobook. I did not like the narrator at all. Her voice irritated me to the point where I almost quit. The story was ok. Nothing really memorable.

Twenty teens compete on a deserted island in hopes of winning the cash prize. The main character Riley has an ulterior motive. She is determined to find the treasure rumored to be hidden somewhere on the island. Unfortunately, as it turns out, she’s not the only one. Dun dun dun..

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape media for this arc.
