I liked it! I am always a fan of books that represent different types of reality shows, and this one definitely reminded me of Survivor. Throwing in buried treasure to the plot was not my favorite, but it all comes together in the end. I found the characters intriguing and this audiobook kept me very entertained.

Thank you to @netgalley I got the opportunity to read one of my anticipated books of 2022!
I enjoyed every aspect of this book! The reality show of teens on an island was mind blowing. Loved the drama which is expected from a reality show and seeing behind the scenes was very interesting

Genre: Mystery and Thrillers, YA
Actual Rating: 3.5 stars
Content Warnings: Discusses murder and pedophilia.

“The Girl Who Knew Too Much” follows Riley Ozment as she joins 19 other teenagers in a Survivor-style reality show that’s located on a deserted island off the coast of Brasil. Riley’s hoping to redeem her past and succeed in her future by winning on the show but, mostly, by finding the hidden treasure that’s been lost in the island for hundreds of years.

This is a perfect YA novel. And by that, I mean that the plot is entertaining and different, and the main character is an immature teenager that’s just figuring out who she is. Childishness aside, this is a great (fictitious) adventure book.

Thanks to NetGalley, I was able to listen to the audiobook of this novel and I must say I loved Stephanie Willing as a narrator. I will definitely be looking at other audiobooks narrated by her. I rounded up the rating from 3.5 stars to 4 stars in Goodreads just because of this awesome voice actor.

I would recommend this book to young adults (and YA-literature lovers) who enjoy outdoorsy adventures and reality TV. I can’t recommend this book based on any other book I’ve read before, because it’s that unique. But remember: it’s YA. It is far-fetched at times, and it is ridiculous, but that’s also what makes it fun.

ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sorry, more like 2.5 stars.
First off i want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to honestly review the audiobook.
I had a hard time finding the characters believable. I understand people can be smart, without having much common sense, but this story took the light bulb above the head and dumb decisions to a new level.

Riley's is embroiled in an internet scandel. She hopes that appearing on a reality tv show will help the public view her in a better light. She also hopes that spending time on the island where she show is set, will allow her to find a hidden treasure. Part treasure hunt, part reality tv mysters, and all timid, heartfelt characters, readers will root for Riley to learn to trust the trustworthy, and avoid the rest!

I really enjoyed this book. The concept of a treasure hunt reality tv show and seeing the behind the scenes was really interesting to me. The author was able to capture a vast array of personalities of individuals who would be on that type of show and use their motivations, skills and faults to keep you guessing what will happen next.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audiobook.

Overall I found myself enjoying this, almost in a guilty pleasure kind of way (it is a "reality show" basically). I liked the little details with the treasure hunt and thought those bits were pretty interesting. Wasn't a huge fan of the main character and her insta-love connection but even that wasn't terrible. The narrator was really good. I'd say this is a quick, easy read if you want something you don't need to concentrate on too hard and like YA and reality shows.

This was a fun YA book. If you take survivor, set it on an island, have kids compete, and add a treasure thats been missing for years… you get this book!

I’ll start off by saying I’m STILL not buying that a treasure has been hidden for hundreds of years, professional treasure hunters have been unsuccessful in finding it, but a group of kids show up and solve the first clue in 10 minutes… NOT GONNA BUY IT!!!!

However. Once you get past that little bit the story is fun. It’s light hearted, mysterious, and overall a good story.

Did they find the treasure? Did the TV show get cancelled? Did the girl really know too much? Pick up this book and find out!

I received this ARC as an audiobook from Net Galley for an honest review.

When I read the synopsis of this book, I was excited to read it! However, this book didn’t live up to the promise. The storyline was confusing and I felt like it was too much for one book. There was treasure hunting, a contestant show with random challenges, pirates, and a poorly developed love interest. The storyline was half thought out and only scratched at the surface. Definitely needed more development in the storyline. The characters were very stereotypical and the main character was whiny and did the “poor me” thing that I didn’t enjoy. I don’t think I would recommend this book to anyone. It wasn’t great and it wasn’t terrible. Just one I’d like to forget and will most likely forget. Nothing memorable about this book!

Note: the narrator of this audiobook did a phenomenal job. I would listen to her again in a heartbeat!

I really enjoyed the premise and plot of this book. It was very much reality teen television show meets Lord of the Flies. However I was a little disappointed by this book. Riley the main character is so unlikable. Not just run of the mill boring unlikable that you will often see with main characters, with that I can usually push through and find something redeeming that shines through with them. Riley was whiny, fake, and super self absorbed. To me she didn’t have any redeeming qualities that would make her the least bit relatable or likable. This issue with this is that secondary characters were more interesting than the main character. I really wish I like Riley more because with the love I have for trashy reality television i would have absolutely loved this book and surely given it 5 stars.

I enjoyed the narrator The Girl Who Knew Too Much. I was drawn in by the book's premise—a Lord of the Flies meets Survivor. Sounds intriguing and thrilling. The book was a bit slow to start the actual "survivor" scenes. However, I would not call this book a thriller. I also did not care for the romance part. Overall, the book was enjoyable, and I liked most of the characters and how they were portrayed. It was a quick audiobook to listen to and made for a good afternoon escape. I would rate this a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an advanced audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

The girl who knew too much is the story of Riley and her decisions after a huge fallout at her school that has basically ruined her life. In order to rehab her reputation, she decides to enroll in this new reality show that is basically like Survivor for teens. She'll spend several weeks with 19 other teens who all have something to prove. The island where the show is taking place is legendary for a hidden treasure that was supposedly buried there hundreds of years ago, and the teens are encouraged to try to find the treasure as part of the show. But Riley has a secret-- her father is a venture capitalist who is very involved in treasure hunts, so she has actually been to the island before to search for the treasure. She even saw her father's best friend get captured by "gold fever" and die as a result of his treasure seeking.

There is SO much promise in this premise and I'm genuinely sad about how disappointed I was in this book. Riley was one of the most insufferable main characters I've read in a long time. She spends most of her time alternating between whining, pining over a guy she met 10 minutes ago, and being super fake in order to try to make herself look good on TV. The other teens in the show were way more interesting. Even though we had several stereotypes of kids-- the goth, the jock/s, the influencer, the rich kid, the nerd, etc-- they each had a lot more nuance than you would expect based on how they were initially presented. I especially loved AJ and Marin. Willa was also a really interesting character who grew on me.

But all that aside, the writing wasn't great, and the actual plot was just absolutely insane. I couldn't suspend my disbelief for the accidental clue solving, the worst Survivor knock-off I've ever heard of, 20 teens being sent off to an island for a month with no parents, instalove, and the extremely convenient ending. My least favorite part was the ending-- the bad guy who has been trying to sabotage the show and the treasure hunting is someone who makes absolutely no sense. I was hoping it would turn out to be the show runner or the love interest, but instead it was this rando person. After the bizarre ending, we get a whole chapter about how everything is SO perfect now for Riley and she has the guy, the best friend, the super dad, etc. It was almost sickening.

Some parts of this were fun and campy and there were several characters I genuinely enjoyed. But those few positives weren't enough to help me suspend my disbelief and just lean into the camp. This book tried to take itself too seriously when it just isn't a serious book-- it could benefit from changes that would make it more intentionally silly and campy.

I really enjoyed the narrator of this book.
I am not usually in the genre but I do read my daughter's books on occasion and this sounded good.
It is not what I expected though! The description of survivor meets Lord of the flies, let that go, not a true or accurate thing. This is more just about the behind the screens of a reality game show and the reason the girl went to be on the show.. I gave the book 4 out of 5 stars

Thank you NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and the author Tiffany Brooks. I have to say the audiobook was done very well. The book was not really for me as I think I can not read all YA books as they are not that thrilling. Some are do not get me wrong, but this was not a thrill for me. I listened with my teenager and she liked it but this is my review that I won't bash it but say it was not for me.

I have read a lot of books this year where the marketing for it is at completely odds with the actual contents of the book, but The Girl Who Knew Too Much takes the cake for the worst misrepresentation.

Described as Survivor meets Lord of the Flies, the only connection that the book has between either of those is the fact that all of them are set on an island. I can see the Survivor angle a little more because of the reality show aspect, but the fact of there being a reality show is again the only connection. On top of the poorly done media comparisons, the nail in the coffin for this marketing fiasco is classifying this book as a thriller when there is only one scene in the entire book that could be considered thrilling.

I might not have minded how badly the marketing set me up for this book...if the book itself knew what it wanted to be. The Girl Who Knew Too Much is really trying to be two books at once - a YA contemporary about reclaiming your identity after a public shaming and an adventure/thriller novel. For me, moving between both of these "plotlines" left the book feeling uneven with characters that didn't resonate and a plot with low stakes. Combined with the fact that I was coming into the book with a specific idea about it that was not met, this book ended up being somewhat of a disappointment.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for a fair and honest review!

If you enjoy the reality show, Survivor, and/or treasure hunts, this is probably the audiobook for you!

Riley is one of twenty teenagers dropped on an island to participate in a Survivor-styled reality show. The island also is rumored to have a hidden treasure that multiple players are trying to find!

This was simply fun, and the narrator did a great job with the audiobook. I thought the scenes surrounding aspects of the show were entertaining, and I wish there had been more of them! Lastly, although a bit predictable, I enjoyed the twist at the end.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I love love love Survivor (who doesn't!) and could not wait to pick up this AUDIOBOOK described as a mix between Survivor and Lord of the Flies.
It did not disappoint! 20 teens are cast to play in a reality game very similar to survivor in which they have tribes, vie for challenge wins and vote off unlikable tribe members. Riley, is our narrator and at first she is a bit off putting, but as you learn her backstory you cannot help but root for her. She is a wealthy teen, and her tie in to the island is a bit contrived, but I enjoyed her point of view and there wasn't the excessive "me, me, my feelings" that you get with some YA books (which for me, may work in a book but are too much in an audiobook).

As Riley navigates the game and the tribes, we learn about the legend of a hidden treasure on the island (and the many deaths associated with it). Riley, searches for the treasure and tries to redeem herself in the name of social media all while potentially finding love. Best yet, there are a lot of behind the scenes info that has changed my perception of my beloved real show Survivor.

I enjoyed every bit of this! The narrator has a great voice and I was never distracted when they changes characters. I do wish there had been more game and more challenges and hope that Tiffany Brooks writes another novel soon (and bonus if there are Survivor challenges). If you like Survivor, competitions, islands living and scavenger/treasure hunt stories then grab this book or Audiobook Now! #NetGalley #TheGirlWhoKnewTooMuch #TiffanyBrooks #DreamscapeMedia

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape media for providing me with an advanced copy of this book to review.

I really enjoyed this book, and I think teens will too. Maybe I just like this sort or story line because I love books like the Robert Langdon series and movies like Fool's Gold with Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. I also watched the first few seasons of Survivor and was really into them, and I always enjoyed teaching Lord of the Flies. This is a bit of all of that combined. I liked the survival reality show and competition premise and the added bonus of treasure hunt adventure. The story line was constantly moving and kept my attention. It had a little romance, but not too much to drag it down. I am not sure about the title. I think something better could have been chosen. It feels more like it should be on a murder witness thriller than this. I think the characters could have maybe been better fleshed out, but overall, a solid book that I would recommend. I will probably recommend it for MASL Gateway Award also.
