I really enjoyed this domestic thriller! Fresh new perspective on the #metoo movement. Great character development that kept me flipping pages.

Nobody But Us is a story of a couple on a romantic getaway. Steve and Ellen still have a fairly new relationship of 6 months and are still getting to know each other. But as the weekend transpires they find that they really don't know each other at all!

Fairly quickly this stress free getaway becomes chock full of stress and danger. The book is described as a locked room mystery, but it's more of a twisty thriller. There is some choppiness and a bit of confusion on what drives each character but it is still an enjoyable ride. If you like fast moving thrillers, domestic based twisty turning stories, or maybe you are planning your own get away? #NobodyButUs might be for you!

This is a really tough book to review, because on the one hand I was frustrated with the choppy storytelling and the dramatic cut off from the buildup back to a long stretch of character back story, but on the other it was a really cool story overall! I think if you know what you're getting into, and that the buildup isn't going to be on par with your typical thriller or horror novel, you'll enjoy this one more. The author definitely knows how to create an engaging story, and maybe in the future a bit of storytelling format revision would earn a 5 star rating from me.

Thank you to NetGalley, Grand Central Publishing, and Laure Van Rensburg for the advanced copy of Nobody But Us in exchange for my honest review.

This is well written, but I unfortunately had a tough time with the pacing. It started off very intriguing, as I really had no idea what was going on or where the plot was going, but once the big reveal happened, I felt like the book dragged on. So much so, I skimmed the last 50ish pages just to find out how the book would end, which is not something I typically do.

I will say that I was pretty blindsided by where the plot took me, and as I previously mentioned this was very well-written. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future!

Hmmm… when I start a review with this opening, you may sense I stuck in the limbo balloon that I couldn’t decide what I’m exactly feeling about the book I’ve read!

Firstly: the plot of the book is AMAZING! A couple: a professor and young student who are harboring big secrets from each other deciding to have a romantic weekend getaway for celebrating their 6th month anniversary ( awww how cute) at Chesapeake Bay but now they are in a haunted, terrifying house as the weather conditions keep deteriorating! That’s truly my kind of plot line I could devour in one sit!

Secondly; the ending of the book is mind blowing!

So you can keep asking me why the hell you’re dealing with complex feelings. Are you out of your meds? Is your Chardonnay stock empty? Just give the freaking five stars, give your recommendations and finish your review to jump into your next reading journey!

Okay… honestly… I have problem with choppy writing style. When I was reading something about the characters’ present time, at the next paragraph I returned back to a past incident which affected their relationship and then boom we move forward again! I felt Captain Kirk teleporting between different time zones!

And I have to say: both of the characters irritated me a lot! I couldn’t connect with them.

The winners of the book are not the MCs! The real winners are the thrilling atmosphere of Chesapeake Bay and THE HOUSE scared the living daylights out of me! Location wins! Characters fail!

I’m still rounding up 3.5 stars to 4 smart ending stars! Because I enjoyed the special message the author gave us at the end, even though I want to stuck out my tongue at characters!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my purely honest thoughts.

Nobody But Us by Lauren Van Rensburg, is atmospheric and scary. I was so excited to read it, but did it live up to the hype?

Synopsis:
Ellie and boyfriend Steven have been dating 6 months. To celebrate their half-a-year anniversary, they take a trip together to Chesapeake Bay. They rent a large house in a secluded area to enjoy basking in their love. Unexpectedly, it snows and the couple is stranded together in the house without cell phone reception or way to leave the area. They soon learn they do not know each other as well as they thought. Could their secrets turn deadly?

What I liked:
The setting of the book is spooky. Who does not love a hair-raising story set in a snowstorm? Add in a large frightening house and it's the perfect terrifying aura for the book. The author tackles a very difficult real life topic. It is a important story that demands to be told.

What I disliked:
The storyline is choppy and hard to follow. The characters are not likeable (which is understandable given the topic), but they push the boundaries of realism. I wanted to love this book, but sadly it fell short for me. We are all different and you may absolutely love this book. I urge you to give it a read if you enjoy horror and gritty mysteries. (3 ⭐⭐⭐ rating.)

Nobody But Us will be published April 12th.

This book was sent to me by Netgalley electronically for review…horror…mystery…whew…I couldnot finish this book…for those who like to read the horror of this book…enjoy…just not for this reader…the positive aspect is that this is a talented and gifted author…the woods seem to be alive…the house is a character…the descriptions and images are some of the best ever…it was the problem of the main characters…the people…that I could not stay with…that being said…try it…

This book was so engrossing and impossible to put down. I loved the backstory with the characters and how they connected. My advice would be to go into this one as blindly as possible because there's so much more to the story than what one would expect.

This book was everything I wanted in a thriller! I didn't know what to expect as I read each page. It was truly a page turner that kept me on the edge of my seat!

Ellie is awesome! She is smart, feisty and no shrinking violet which I loved. Steven seemed very professorial- at least in the beginning...

Your opinions of both of them change as the book reveals more and more about them and their secrets...

This was truly a one sitting read and a well executed thriller that keeps you in suspense to the very end.

This book is such a scary, intense thriller. The setting is an isolated spot and both characters are hiding secrets. I was absolutely tinting on the edge of my seat until the last page when I found out what happened. I would highly recommend the story, I loved it.
