"I thought I could escape my past, but I was wrong....."

Right there, this book hooked me in. This was a gripping psychological thriller that pulled me in right from the start. Although, I sometimes I like to go slow to enjoy the book, that was not in the cards for this one. This is probably the fastest book I have ever read. I just could not get enough.

Ruth Heald, delivers. I was looking for a true nail biter after being in a book slump for some time. This was all that and more. The anticipation that led up to the major twist at the end was not one I could have planned for.

This is a must read. 5 stars.

I’m not sure what to think of this one. It was kind of a complex tangled mess. Sophie turns down a proposal from her long time boyfriend because she realizes she wants more. Then within a week she finds this too good to be true job in London. They pay well, have free housing, and even help her pay off her debts even though she has just started the job.

When a past employee shows up telling her she should be concerned and bad things about her bosses and the office atmosphere, she brushes the woman off and chooses to believe her coworker, and new boyfriend. I found this part infuriating. As the whole story we are learning that Sophie accused someone of rape and no one believed her and now she’s doing the same thing to someone else.

As I said, it’s a long winded and tangled mess of the workplace and the past rape. I’m not really on board with how it turned out.

I was lucky to receive an advance copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinions. This was another great book by Ruth Heald! She never disappoints and will keep you guessing until the very last page. I started this book late at night and was not able to go to bed until VERY late as I was totally sucked in from the beginning. I highly recommend you start this much earlier in the night!

Another fabulous book from Ruth Heald! I loved everything about this book - Sophie's new job in Soho turns out to be anything but straightforward, plus her accommodation is weirdly connected to her job and she no longer knows who she can trust. There are twists and turns and a big surprise at the end. Pacy and original, I'd definitely recommend it.

The story revolves around Sophia, who has recently gotten a new job, a new flat, new friends, and a new boyfriend. Everything seems to be perfect. But the past has a habit of catching up to you, and Sophia's past is far from spotless.
This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good thriller!!
Absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the tension - impossible to put it down.
Certainly recommended!

Thank you Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I liked this book, I didn't love it - but it was easy enough to burn though relatively quickly. I liked that a few red herrings were thrown in occasionally to throw you off the scent, but I didn't love that events didn't seem to flow well together for me.

It felt like there was a slow build up, but unfortunately the suspense was lacking for me. I also felt like a few events were slightly far fetched and severely underdeveloped, especially towards the end of the book. Resolutions seemed to occur without any consequences but then the ending totally fell flat for me.

A promising start that just fell a little flat for me.

This was an excellent, solid thriller. I enjoy a fantastic workplace-based thriller so this novel really appealed to me. Sophie is looking for a fresh start following the end of a relationship and finds herself in London, securing a job that is way beyond her expectations in a small family-owned marketing company. With exciting social opportunities, the perfect flat and the attentions of a handsome admirer, it all seems too good to be true. There's plenty of suspense to keep the reader's attention and it has chunks of unpredictability. Well worth a read. 😀

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Behind her dream life hides the perfect nightmare. I couldn’t believe it when I got the call to offer me my dream job. It was right in the heart of the city with a flat provided. I jumped at the chance and within days I had made new friends and am dating a wonderful man. For the first time in years, I feel safe. It’s a world away from the life I ran from…But soon strange things begin to happen in my flat: odd noises in the night, the feeling that I’m being watched. When I discover an old dress hidden behind my wardrobe and wear it to work, the atmosphere chills instantly. The dress belonged to a girl my boss would rather forget. The girl before me who vanished without a trace. I tell myself not to worry; that I’m just imagining things. But when a young woman arrives on my doorstep, she warns me to leave my new life behind. She tells me there are more girls like me and we are more connected than I could have ever imagined. Then I come face to face with the reason I ran all those years ago and it soon becomes clear: someone knows my secret. And they will do anything to keep me silent.

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own hone\st voluntary review.

Before you have even opened a Ruth Heald book, you know you’re in for an exciting read, and The New Girl delivers excitement in spades.

Our main character Sophie think she has left her old life behind when she starts work with an advertising agency in London. But soon after, she begins feeling like she’s being watched, and then her past threatens to crash into her new life.

I liked Sophie, but just occasionally she tested my “suspension of disbelief”, especially with her relationship with the loathsome Charlie. Why waste ten years on such a person? The characters were fleshed out perfectly, enhancing the story rather than distracting from it.

Overall, this is a well executed psychological thriller which had me gripped all the way to the end, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a clever, exciting, book. I gave The New Girl, by Ruth Heald, five stars.

This is a good read, but I would call it more of a romance/mystery.
Sophie had to leave the city due to awful circumstances. She lived in Dorset and her boyfriend Charlie wanted to marry her and was excited to show her the house he was renovating for them. Sophie was not ready to settle there as she was ambitious and wanted to follow her career in the city.
She sent resumes out and was delighted when she was offered a job in London. There was even a bonus - the job came with a flat paid for her by the company.
The 3 main partners of the firm seemed really nice and welcoming and it wasn't long before Sophie began dating. Then things started to make her feel unsettled. She heard noises, received a strange email and a former employee warned her to leave her job. Could her past be catching up with her.
I thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book gripped me right from the very arresting prologue and I found it impossible to put down.

Sophie is very likeable, and it’s hard not to want things to work out for the best for her, but I couldn’t help but feel that she was a bit naïve as events progressed. The expression that if something seems too good to be true that it usually is, made me wish that I could get inside the book and warn her not to be so trusting!

It’s impossible to know who to trust in this web of lies and deceit. Sophie has her own secrets from her past, and I couldn’t figure out if this was linked to the present day, but this very clever and twisty plot keeps you guessing until it all comes out at the end.

The tension and sense of danger builds in this book until the climactic ending, and the epilogue finishes it off just perfectly.

I really enjoyed this thoroughly engrossing and addictive book, and would really recommend it for anyone who likes a good psychological thriller.

A really pacy thriller full of twists and turns that keep you turning the pages. The ending was a little rushed, but it didn't take away from the great read that this book is. Would definitely read more from this author.

This is a first time read for me by this author, so I had no particular expectations going into it. The story was well-written and interesting and held my attention from beginning to end. The plot was intriguing and there were some twists and turns which kept me thoroughly engaged. Sophie can't believe her luck when she lands the perfect job. With the job comes a fabulous new place to live, rent free. Her life is going well and she even has a romantic interest. But then strange things start happening, not to mention the odd noises she hears in her flat. Then a strange woman warns her about her employer. Could it all be too good to be true and could there really be something sinister behind it all? Plenty of suspense and intrigue kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. A gripping story you won't be able to put down!

I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
