Great thriller that keeps the reader on the edge of their seats for the whole book. Well done story line that moves and never grows stagnant.

What I liked most about The New Girl is you didn’t know who to believe. Of course, I was a staunch supporter of Sophie, but who just was her enemy? I changed my mind many times as to who could be the person wanting to destroy here. I was so eager to find out the truth that I raced right through this book.

Admittedly, I did skim a bit. For one, it was the character dialogue that drew me in most. Also, as much as I liked Sophie, I found her irritating at times. I understand that she was a vulnerable character, hence why many were taking advantage of her, but she seemed to unrealistically naive at times.

While it wasn’t the most jaw-dropping psychological thriller I’ve ever read, it certainly was entertaining. The perfect pick-up for when you want to get lost in a book.

Thank you Bookoutre and Netgalley and sorry I took so long to read this - when I eventually retire I will be quicker!

A good twisty read that does keep you guessing. I enjoyed it and couldn't stop picking it up to read. The only downside I found it a little slow in places.

I look forward to reading more from the author.

A bit scattered here and there. Twists and gripping suspense. Sophie has dreams and ambitions that do not include her current boyfriend, so she moves to London and is soon involved with an exciting new job and new friends. But she is tormented by the past too much. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.

Sophie thinks she is leaving her past behind with a new job in a new city after ending her relationship. Little did she know her past was haunting her the whole time.

This was a great read and helped me get out of my reading slump. Following along with Sophie's journey in London and her new job that seemed a bit too good to be true. There are twists that you wouldn't expect and it keeps you hooked until the end. Definitely going to read more Ruth Heald books after this one. Thank you for my copy.

I loved everything about this book. It was definitely a thriller from beginning to the end. Cannot wait to read more books from this author and love the characters in this book. If I had to write this book, it would be an A++++++!!

I’m gonna say No to this one. Bland characters and uninteresting tone. Next, please!

Thanks to Netgalley!

This wasn't bad, I figured it out halfway right, but not completely. I thought the reason for everything happening was a little juvenile, something that would happen in high school amd not something mature adults would bother with.

I found the main character to be very frustrating. I found the story was long and drawn out and the ending was also disappointing. Parts of the book were very predictable.

Social Media, Me-Too ...
Starting in a small Dorset town in England, this tale takes Sophie from her restrictive relationship with Charlie to London to her dream job in advertising. This is despite her pushing down her bad memories of an event in London that made her pull out of her under-graduate degree in a prestigious university, to complete one in an unknown online institution. Now she wants to resume her career. But the memories surface all the more, especially as social media posts have re-emerged that threaten her.

Is all that glitters gold? The job seems too good to be true. A higher salary than she thought possible, a free flat and rich admiring boss.

The reader wonders why Sophie allows herself to get drunk at London parties when she was trying to protect her past lurid experience in London, from the trauma that led to her aborted degree and to flee London. While not blaming a woman for the actions of lecherous men, the reader does question why self-care doesn't come into it – from protecting her glass from being spiked to being alone with no form of transport home, and not being around anyone she can trust.

And who are these young women coming out of the woodwork to warn Sophie? Sophie, who, having learned nothing from her past remains gullible, falling for the first man that comes onto her.

A predictable story, that doesn't have the pace or mystery of a suspense; this reader saw the bad guy a mile off. Requires a large suspension disbelief. The writing style is pedestrian, surprising for a published author.

I loved this book! It was very twisty, with lots of layers and it definitely kept me on my toes, trying to figure out what was going on!

"The New Girl" Sophie is so thrilled, her dream job, dream flat, dream man, Charlie out of the picture, on her own making a red hot go of it in London, Sophie's finally made it. Sophie knew she could do it, work hard, play harder, in her element, burning the candle at both ends, winning the big marketing campaigns, bringing the big players onboard, James and Cassie and Max are so pleased with all her efforts, she is being noticed the big wigs are taking notice – she’s it the big time – finally.

Until – something feels off, something smells off, something doesn’t feel quiet right, Sophie doesn’t trust Max, Sophie’s trust of Cassie is waning, Sophie trusts James, James is so kind to her, James looks out for her, she can trust him, James is her boyfriend.

This book is very real, this book should be read by grandmothers, who hand to their daughters to read, who then hand on to their daughters to read, this book is a warning for all women to go with your gut – it’s the only thing you can trust.

Thank you Netgalley and Ruth Heald who thankfully has a back catalogue I can’t wait to get my hands on.

This was a solid, addictive psychological thriller that I've come to expect from the author.

After feeling stuck in her home town in Devon Sophie flees to the bright lights of London. After being offered her dream job in advertising Sophie's 'new life' can start.

The up and coming company is small but offers everything Sophie ever dreamed of and more. The perfect job not only gives her more responsibilities and opportunities than she thought possible but also comes with a fully equipped apartment. The allure of the much needed cash may be giving her the 'perfect' life but has she jumped in too fast?

Now living the life she's always wanted, socialising with colleagues in the 'trendy' bars.

The only problem is what secrets she has left behind... the past and present soon collide. Who can she trust?

A real roller coaster of a read that had me hooked for the first 3/4 but I'll admit the last 1/4 left me wanting more development before the amazingly twisty ending.

4*

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

This book felt like it had a lot of promise but ended up falling flat for me. The twists were obvious but the biggest issue was the main character's incredible naive attitude which almost felt required for the story to work and was hard to get past. I would however like to see the author's next book and what she does next. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

Sophie has a secret from her past that she wants to forget. Something happened at university which caused her to leave and return home to live with her dad. She has a boyfriend Charlie who is very possessive and wants them to settle down, marry and start a family. Sophie realises that this is not what she wants and decides to leave her hometown and move to London to pursue a career in advertising. She goes for an interview and gets her dream job. Everything is perfect. She is enjoying her new job, making new friends, enjoying living rent free in a company flat and has a handsome admirer. But soon things that happened in her past begin to invade her new life and she doesn’t know who to trust. A really enjoyable psychological thriller which I can highly recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is the perfect remedy for any reading slump. It kept me guessing throughout the story, never knowing which way it would go. The plot is fast paced with a feeling of uneasy tension that leads to the very surprising and satisfying conclusion. Not only was this thriller suspenseful and extremely entertaining, but inspiring as well. I enjoyed the twists that kept me intrigued from start to finish. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
