This book was absolutely fantastic. I've already added it to our list for order this year and will recommend it to students.

Told in multiple POVs, this moving YA romance is down-right swoon-worthy. I could not tear myself away from Serene and Lian's stories, who are seemingly the only Chinese teens in town. Serene, who moved to America as a young child, watched her mother grow an fashion empire and be a single mom. Now, Serene finds herself supporting her mother through illness. Lian moved to China just a year ago, and he's having trouble adjusting. Not only is he subject of bullying and racism, but he misses his friends in Beijing and feels stifled by his parents' expectations.

When Lian starts a Chinese Club to enhance his college applications and hopefully get some time to work on his stand up routines, he doesn't know that Serene will walk through the door and their lives will be forever changed by friendship and love. A must-read romance from Kelly Yang, whose YA fiction shines just as much as her middle grade successes.
