This was such a cute book! I love Lina and Aaron! Aaron is definitely a new book boyfriend favorite. There were some cheesy parts that had me rolling my eyes a bit, but ultimately I really enjoyed this book and the cheese. 🤪 I did find it frustrating that it took Lina so long to figure out the obvious, that Aaron loved her. It was pretty clear from the very beginning. However, I still enjoyed this one.
Thank you @atriabooks for the ARC via @netgalley. #TheSpanishLoveDeception.

Why is this book almost 500 pages? It seems excessive and in desperate need of editing. I know this was originally self published but maybe an editor should have cute a lot of things before reprinting. Booktok will still fish about it though so no worries I guess.

This book was laugh-outloud funny, especially the combined wedding shower athletic events. Catalina and Aaron were an easy couple to root for. I loved the extended Spanish family and would love to read a short story about their trip to the US that was mentioned at the end.

I enjoyed reading this book and loved the plot. It was a great beach read that I brought on vacation!

This book was cute, but based on what I'd heard from others I was definitely expecting more. The last 25% or so of the book felt forced and rushed.

I know this is one of the hot TikTok books but it just wasn't what I thought it may be. It started out too slowly for my liking and I found my self skimming a lot to move along faster. Lina seemed a little too oblivious and self centered for my liking. The romance itself was well written, but getting there was definitely a struggle. I did enjoy seeing Lina's family and their love for her. My heart ached for Aaron but I was glad that Lina was able to get her head out of her butt in the end and step up for him. I've definitely read worse books, but I don't think this will be something I would read a second time.

“Because it was all you were willing to give me. And I’d rather have you hating me than not have you at all.”
I know The Spanish Love Deception has been critiqued for its similarities with the Hating Game, but I absolutely loved this book. It was a super easy and fast read that kept me entertained from the first page all the way to the last one. Aaron's character surprised me the most--not expecting the grumpy guy to be so loveable. Catalina's story was both touching and endearing.
The best thing about Own Voices books is the ability of the reader to get a glimpse into different cultures, and I definitely enjoyed taking a trip to Spain.

It took me a while to get into this book. I almost didn't finish but am glad I did. I enjoyed the ending.

I kept seeing this cover pop up on Instagram and knew I had to read it! It was a super fun read, full of office antics, travel adventure, a loyal best friend, an over the top family, and of course, the slow burn romance of Aaron and Catalina. Thanks for the opportunity to read it!

I loved this spicy romance. The conflict between the characters and the building tension kept me turning the pages for more. I would definitely recommend this book to all romance readers!

In one sentence: Catalina needs a fake boyfriend for her sister's wedding, but her best option is her work enemy Aaron.
I enjoy the fake dating trope, so I had to check out this TikTok sensation. This book ended up being a bit of "it's not you, it's me" scenario - I can see why others enjoyed it, but it wasn't my cup of tea. This book is a slow burn, without much steam until 75%, and then the steam is endless. I prefer shorter novels, so a 448 page romance novel was always going to be a tough sell.
That being said, Aaron is a great book boyfriend, and I totally get why readers have fallen in love with him. If you're a big romance fan, I think you might still love this one (although you may have already read it since I'm late to the party!)
Thank you to Atria Books for providing an ARC of the paperback edition in exchange for an honest review.

This book is definitely hyped. I ended up investing in the audiobook and found that was the best way to consume this book This was a companion to walks. Love Lina and Aaron, the family, the slowest burn. This book was delight.
Elena was a guest to the What to Read Next Podcast and her episode is live.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning, I could not put it down. The characters are lovable and the author did a great job of building them up and giving the reader what was needed to have a good idea of who they were reading about and a perfect mental image as they read. I enjoyed the back and forth between languages. It wasn't full fledged dual language but when she interacts with her family she switches back and forth. As someone always trying to add to my Spanish Comprehension I really enjoy that. I am looking forward to more from the author in the future. Also, I am obsessed with the coral colored cover. It caught my eye right away and always makes me happy when I stumble upon it as it circulates my library.

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas is a delightful romcom about Catalina, who loves her family so much and doesn't ever want to disappoint them. So, she lets them believe that she has a new boyfriend that she is bringing with her to her sister's wedding. The problem? She doesn't actually have a boyfriend. But, the super annoying guy at work volunteers to help her out; and she has not other options, so she accepts his offer. I'm pretty sure I looked crazy while reading this book, since I was smiling during the entirety of it. I loved this feel-good romance and would definitely recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

I was looking for a good sweet romance and kept seeing this pop up on my booktok and just knew that I had to give it a try after reading the synopsis. Boy was that the right choice. I was hooked from chapter 1 not only because of Chris Evans ( I suggested this book to my friends just because of this), but because of the quippy writing and the easy going nature of our lead. This is so far one of my favorite read of the year. I fell in love with Aaron Blackford even before Lina knew her feelings for him. He is the perfect book boyfriend and goes in the top 5 of my list. The book was well paced out with a slow burn. I loved the fact that we got to see Lina face issues that many working class women of color do in their life and she faced it head on without the support of a man not that I would say no to Aaron helping out. Their relationship was consensual and came together beautifully. Now we just have to wait for a movie and maybe Chris can play Aaron? Here's to hoping.

This was such a wonderful book! Great enemies to lovers romance in the style of The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. I loved the characters and really appreciated its discussion of how women can be mistreated in professional settings.

This book was the perfect enemies to lovers romance! It's my favorite trope and I was not disappointed. I am looking forward to discussing this novel with friends, but it is too mature for my students. I can't wait to see what Elena Armas writes next!

I listened to the audiobook version and I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. First I have to say that the narrator did a wonderful job. Second, I am a sucker for the love/hate relationships trope and this definitely falls into that category. The author does a wonderful job of not giving everything away in the beginning. Instead she gradually releases information to build interest in their love story. One thing that I really did enjoy about the book was the blending of the American and Spanish cultures. I appreciated that the character took time to learn about the other characters culture and language. I look forward to reading other novels by Elena Armas.

Catalina needs a date for her sister's wedding in Spain. She can't go back alone, not after being humiliated by a situation she couldn't control, can't risk being the subject of gossip and pity and nosy cousins. The only guy available to go with her as a fake boyfriend is the insufferable Aaron Blackford.
I love how this book explores what women deal with on a daily basis in the workplace working in a male dominated career. The family dynamics were familiar and fun (Spaniards are like us Italians!). And the female friendship in this book is a perfect example of women lifting each other up. So much to love about this book!

This was my second read and I love it just as much...so happy it's re-releasing, it's on the top of my list of romance reads next to The Hating Game.
