Kate Wallis is hiding out after fleeing an abusive marriage. She is just starting to rebuild her life with her three year old daughter Portia when she sees Leslie Bailey again. Leslie helps run her parents diner. They met months before on a hiking get together and shared a memorable kiss but Leslle hasn’t seen Kate since. Kate finally feels she is a place to start dating and hasn’t forgotten Leslie. Leslie is ready for a relationship and embraces Portia too. But ex-wife Wendy shows up and starts menacing both of them.

I was interested in the story and can’t imagine the stress someone in that situation would feel. But Kate didn’t always make the wisest choices in my mind. I felt she and Portia were safer at her sister’s home than on her own in an apartment. I do appreciate the author didn’t direct the threats toward the child. An intense drama/romance. Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
