Thriller

Another action packed thriller!

I was a HUGE fan of Redfearn's 2020 release In an Instant. When I read that some of the main characters from that story would be in this novel, I knew I needed to read it.

Chloe, Mo and Hazel are friends and roommates. Chloe's life has just gone off the rails because her long time boyfriend just took off and took her money with him. Mo's life on the other hand is looking up. Her business is taking off and her boyfriend only has 3 more months in the military before he is home for good.

Mo and Hazel go out to celebrate Mo's most recent success and when Mo steps out to take a call from Ryan, her boyfriend, Hazel gets roofied and disappears. Chloe and Mo set out to find and help Hazel but things go off the rails when Mo is accused of attacking Hazel's attacker.

There is a lot going on and with three protagonists it's hard to keep everything and everyone connected. As such we don't really get a full character in Hazel. There is also a pretty big plot point that doesn't really get explained.

I loved revisiting a few of these characters from In an Instant and seeing where their stories lead. I did really like this book as well.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC of this novel.

Moment in Time by S. Redfearn is a full-length, stand-alone novel. The story deals with sensitive subjects and is not for the faint of heart.
Chloe, Mo and Hazel are friends/roommates. The woman are different from each other, but on the other side they're great friends who stand by each other.
When bad happens to one of them, all three are involved in one way or another.
This is an highly emotional read with characters that through a lot and have the scars to prove it. A story that goes under the skin, heavy stuff.
A book that stays with you long after reading the last page.

Know in advance that Redfearn has used characters from earlier novels to craft this latest one- which works, I think if you remember those plots but not so well if you're new to the party. Chloe and Mo,, who survived a terrible car accident, are sharing an apartment in San Franciso with the smart and talented Hazel. A night out turns dark and violent for Hazel when she picks up a drink meant for one of the other women. She's sexually assaulted and then goes missing. And then the man who did it is found beaten. The afterword explains why Redfearn chose these themes. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Not my favorite of her books but still a good read.

Picking up with Chloe and Mo, who have aged eight years after we last saw them, was such a treat. These two women are such well written characters. Having experienced tragedy in the past, it’s not surprising when a horrific situation arises that these women band together to make things right. Unfortunately things go horribly wrong. You can’t help but root for these women to prevail.
At its heart this story is about good overcoming evil and examines the idea of seeking revenge. With her insightful writing, Redfearn raises awareness of the real life horror of victims being “roofied.” The compelling tale kept me on the edge of my seat and is one I recommend. I believe readers will enjoy it more if they have read “In an Instant,” but it could also be read as a stand alone. Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

„From the bestselling author of In an Instant comes a heartrending story about the power of friendship during the most challenging moments in life.“

Picking up this ARC from NetGalley I did not realize that this was a sequel to In An Instant. Nevertheless, I had no difficulty getting into the story because the author mentions fills us readers in here and there what had happened in the first book. You can go in and read this as a stand-alone.
The story was fast paced and the main characters were likeable and relatable. Sometimes I caught myself thinking that they were fictional characters more than I usually do, which was probably because I was missing depth to some parts of the story.
I, honestly, still can’t come to terms how I feel about the way the driving topic of this book (rape) was handled. The story also shows how the rape affected the offender’s life rather than only focusing on the victim’s story. I don’t know if I’m ok with this, I don’t know if I’m ok with giving (even a fictional) offender the room for expression in any way.
I am lucky that if didn’t trigger me, but I’d suggest anyone to whom rape is a triggering topic in books to think well about going into this one.
What I did looove about this book is obviously that Chloe is rescuing a stray dog! Immediately elevated the story for me and my dog loving heart.

This book was full of surprises. About half way through I was wishing I had reread In An Instant before starting this. We meet up with several of the same people from that book. This story takes place eight years later.
Mo and Chloe rally around Hazel after an attack. Things are done and said and before they know it, everything is a mess. It’s a good book certain to keep you turning the pages.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

I had really high expectations for this book as I absolutely loved In an Instant. I was excited to see that this book included characters from In an Instant as reading about characters from previous books is like visiting with old friends. However, I didn't find Chloe or Mo (characters from In an Instant) to be very likeable. In my opinion, they both seemed immature, self-centered, and irresponsible. They also, individually and together, made some terrible decisions that affected their loved ones in addition to themselves.

With that said, overall I found this book to be okay. I never considered not finishing it, but I really didn't connect with the characters.

You can read this book without having read In an Instant, but if you want to better understand the numerous references to the previous tragedy that befell Mo and Chloe you may want to read it before reading this book.

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for providing a copy for review.

I really enjoyed Suzanne Redfearn’s novel ‘In An Instant’ so I was super excited to get to read this sequel early in exchange for an honest review!

Taking place 8 years after the devastating accident that occurred in the previous book ‘In An Instant’, Mo and Chloe are trying to move on from their past and trying to navigate life as adults, but are definitely having a hard time doing so. After a sexual assault occurs towards a character named Hazel, Mo and Chloe find themselves in a position where they are fighting to get justice while also trying to avoid further trouble.

This wasn’t the story i was expecting, I didn’t picture it to be so mysterious and ‘whodunnit’ style but it definitely worked and kept me on my toes, wanting to find out what truly happened and it kept me rooting for Mo and Chloe and their fight for Hazel. Great book about friendship and what you would do to keep your loved ones safe.

Although I enjoyed the first book much more, I still like this one too and will definitely continue to read more of Redfearn’s work!

I would definitely recommend reading ‘In An Instant’ before this one, as there are major spoilers for the first book and quite a few flashbacks too, which I loved!

I read In an Instant a couple years ago and loved it, so I was excited to see Suzanne Redfearn brought back a couple of the main characters from that novel into her new book. Unfortunately, I was mostly disappointed in their trajectories in this one.

Mo and Chloe, who survived a catastrophic accident eight years ago, are now in their mid-twenties when they get tangled up in another tragedy centered around their roommate Hazel. I had to keep reminding myself that the girls were supposed to be adults now, because they all acted so childish and made horrible decisions at every turn.

I think Moment in Time's biggest issue is a lack of editing. There are plot holes everywhere, the characters aren't very well developed (I think readers would be really confused if they didn't read In an Instant first, and I still had some trouble keeping up after just a couple years), and the story goes off in too many directions and at times certain lines just seem to drop off a cliff.

The subject matter (TW: sexual assault) is very sensitive, and I didn't think Redfearn gave it the care and detail it deserved. With In an Instant, I thought she did an excellent job writing about various sensitive topics and using them as both teaching moments and points for discussions, but I thought her main message was sloppy here.

I'm a big fan of the author and have loved all her books. This one hit me in my happy place, as Chloe (sister of Finn) is a vet and also in the midst of rescuing a stray dog.
The storyline is a harrowing one but also the theme of friendships, good hearts and generally wonderful characters (and dogs) is amazing, I really loved the whole book, and catching up with old friends from In An Instant is poignant and wonderful.
Absolutely superb read from an amazing author.

I vould not get i to the novel i liked the idea of it i loved the authors other story so i thought i would love this too but it was a miss for me

Another book that continues the story of another book but is billed as standalone. I do not like this trend at all. I felt like this book was just based on exploiting some trauma because I didn't connect with the characters but maybe I would have had I read her first book. I didn't so I am left feeling like this was sort of forced.

Not realizing that this was a sequel to In An Instant, I requested this ARC from Netgalley. I had no difficulty getting into the story because Suzanne Redfearn mentions here and there what had happened in the first book. That was a big plus and if you're like me, not having read In An Instant, please don't let that stop you from trying Moment In Time.

The author's note at the end of this novel gives insight as to how she chose this subject to write about. Definitely take the time to read it.

Primarily this book was about friendship and how the three main characters were always there for each other. They had a wonderful friendship and that was my favorite part of the book. Unfortunately Hazel, who is the focus of the book based on what happened to her, isn't really given that much time in this book. It's more about Mo and Chloe and the poor choices they make. At their age and with the level of responsibility that they have due to their jobs, I was surprised at their choices.

Shining through everything was Ruby, the rescued dog. I loved her.

I would recommend Moment In Time to fans of Redfearn's work and those who are interested in the subject matter. Thanks go to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for an ARC at my request. All thoughts are my own.

After reading In an Instant, I had great hopes for this follow up. I was hoping the characters, 8 years later, would exhibit more maturity. Chloe has become a veterinarian and Mo has launched a very successful news source and is highly regarded in the field of journalism. However, these women and their new bevy of friends act like Middle schoolers – 13 year olds.

Throughout my time reading it, I kept wanting to put it down, but kept going. At 80% I closed my Kindle. I can not recommend this book to anyone, but obviously a lot of people liked it looking at the 4 and 5* ratings.

I appreciate this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I wish mine could have been better.

Perhaps a sequel to In An Instant, this one explores two survivors, Mo and Chloe, of that horrendous accident eight years ago that changed their lives. They are now in their twenties, rooming with Hazel, establishing themselves. Chloe is a veterinarian. They are still dealing with their issues when Mo decides to go out with Hazel, a wallflower, who needs a push into the social scene.

Unfortunately, Hazel is drugged and sexually assaulted and then goes missing. Mo and Chloe pull together to find her. In the background are a couple vague sub-plots.

I’m not quite sure what happened with this novel and was a bit disappointed it didn’t have the driving emotional, compelling plot of the previous, forcing a reader to the next page. While there was some thoughtful prose, quotables, I kept questioning the decisions these two were making. An insta-love addition to the plot was distracting, annoying, over the top, and twists didn’t feel authentic.

This one didn’t leave me breathless, exhausted, wanting more. It used the two characters from In An Instant, as well as others, recapping scenes from the previous books, so this time they were a little flat (assumed familiar) and I couldn’t engage. I’m not sure I’d recommend this as a standalone. Still, I’m a fan of the author and look forward to her next novel. 3.5 stars

It was such a thrill to know a moment in time was about Mo and Chloe, 8 years after the disaster of in an instant. Chloe a vet and Mo.... running a business and succeeding at it.
she
Chloe reeling from a breakup and staying with Mo and their friend Hazel, balances her job while just trying to get through the day then something awful happens to Hazel. Something that should have happened to Mo but a phone call saves her from that fate.

Chloe and Mo go on a whirlwind trek to find Hazel before hazel does something she will regret. After the man who attacks hazel is found drugged and beaten, the race is on to discover the truth.

The whole book centers on Mo and Chloe, how their friendship is evolving and they are both discovering things about themselves in their quest to find the truth.

I adored watching Chloe really shaping herself into a woman I can admire and her tenacity and spirit never faltering even in spite of how bad things get. Her passion for dogs and the need to do the right thing, made her a woman I could be friends with.

I was on the edge of my seat for 90% of the book. I couldn't put it down. The writing was flawless and beautiful and flowed off the page like the river flowing over a rock bed . I felt like I was right there with all 3 women. Their personalities shone through and they felt so real. Each character had real depth and I felt wonderfully emerged in their lives.

If you love a good mystery with classic undertones, this is the book for you. I think the author did an amazing job of holding the suspense, giving the book a real nice twist and covering a difficult subject while never losing sight of the storyline. Never lost its rhythm and my attention never waivered.

Definitely will be buying a copy upon release. 5 stars! Wish I could give it more.

Moment in time by Suzanne Redfearn is a continuation from her previous novel In an instant but you can read it as a standalone.
Eight years later after the accident, the girls are now in their mid-twenties. Chloe is now a self-employed vet and Mo has a media start up and Hazel all live in San Francisco. Hazel goes missing after being raped and the girls go and find her before she does something stupid and fight for the right of women who has also suffered the same way.
This story is also about strength of the girls’ friendships and far they go to help each other in a time of need and with their partners. The story was a bit slow to start with but got there in the end. This had a great storyline and characters, especially the dog Ruby. 4 stars from me.

Although this is the second book featuring some of the characters it is easily read as a stand-alone as I did. Mo, Chloe and Hazel are roommates and best friends, when one of them is sexually assaulted the other to what to get justice for her. The main characters for likeable and relatable, they make some bad decisions just like real life! It is a fast paced,, easy to read and deals well with what still is a difficult subject.

I clicked request on this title as soon as I saw it because I've read every book by this author in the past few years and always enjoy them. I loved Hadley and Grace and really liked In An Instant. So because I made an impulsive choice without reading the blurb, I had no idea that this was a follow-up from In An Instant. Imagine my surprise! That notion stayed on my radar as I read through, and several times thought to myself, I wonder if people who didn't read In An Instant will understand the story well enough to enjoy? I imagine they do get enough back story to follow it because it's another time and another location, but I suggest perhaps reading the other story first for your best enjoyment.

I was quickly pulled into reading this and trying to follow the clever clues left behind by all of the 3 MC friends who turned out to all be unreliable narrators, with the chapters alternating POV's among them. The second half of the book takes off and kept my interest while eating dinner and straightening up my kitchen. I had to know what happened! But then I found out what had happened... and I was a bit confused at being played by the author. This is not a spoiler. From chapter one you'll realize that you have to pay close attention or you'll be left behind. Read closely, pay attention, form your own theory about what happened after that horrible night when one of the best friends is date-raped. But have fun reading this well-written suspense about 3 close friends who will sacrifice anything for the others' safety and reputation. 4.5/5 and recommended
p.s. The author writes a compelling afterword to explain how and why this story came to be. Don't skip it!

TW: As mentioned in the book blurb which is pretty spoiler-y on it's own, you should know that the story's main plot revolves around a drugged date-rape. Avoid this if you're sensitive to this topic.
