An engaging second chance romance along with a suspenseful mystery or two or three. Many exciting moments. A little too much detail about gluten-free diets and god, but easily overlooked. Often books are padded with hobbies, clothing, or other things to fill up the pages. Some find these interesting while others do not. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. Edge of Dusk is a trip back to Rock Harbor on the Upper Peninsula of Lake Superior in Michigan and what a trip! I read the Rock Harbor series years ago and really enjoyed it. This new one is a great addition with chills, danger, action, twists, turns, and reconnecting. Annie Pederson has had many losses in her life. First, her younger sister was abducted while they were children, then her parents and husband were killed when their boat blew up. She only has her nine-year-old daughter Kylie. She works as a park ranger and runs her family's marina. Her hands are full. Her first love, Jon Dunstan, is back in town to renovate his family's cabin to sell. His father is with him. Jon is a successful orthopedic surgeon and his career got in the way of their engagement years ago. Jon's past creeps up when bodies of two young women he was seen with years ago are found on Annie's property. The two work together to find the killer but it just puts Annie in danger. This is a wild ride to find answers and stay alive for Annie. There are several things going on in this story to figure out, including a strange young woman named Taylor working to help Annie with Kylie, and some attacks on campers. Taylor seems to have some ulterior motive against Annie. It does end with a little bit of unfinished business in my opinion so I cannot wait to read the next in this new series. I enjoyed seeing original characters from the series.

Edge of Dusk by Colleen Coble, an Annie Pederson Novel ~ these few words say so much. As we venture in to this story we discover the Edge of Dusk plays a very important role in several scenes. It ominousness (is that a word) that is portrayed through this title adds to the creepy suspense that runs through the tale. Annie Pederson is the main character in this suspenseful drama. The implication that there will be more stories involving this strong, independent, park ranger is exciting.
Coble returns us to the UP where we're reunited with Kade, Bree, and Anu. The adventures that surround this setting are endless. The coldness of Lake Superior seep through the pages as we journey the islands and harbors with Annie, Kylie, and Jon. This story holds several threads that will no doubt lead to more mysteries in the sequels to come.
I enjoyed this story with it's lush landscape blowing through many scenes. The loons are their own character and sent me searching to discover more about them and exactly what they look like. There are a few directions the story took that I didn't quite track or didn't find to fit the story but I suspect some of that will clear up as the series continues.
Coble is an excellent mystery, suspense, romance writer. I enjoy her imagination and the colors that overflow through the end of her pen.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book. All opinions are my own.

I had so many great expectations for this book, but sadly, they weren’t met. The story’s synopsis made me expect a great mystery reading, with gripping moments, but all I got was an attempt of a “getting back together” romance with some hints of suspense, but that in the bigger picture doesn't account for much.

Honestly, I can’t decide where to begin pointing out some of the things that bothered me so much it made this book almost unbearable to continue until the end, but I hoped it was still going to save itself somehow, which didn’t happen. First of all, we see a person of interest in a disappearance-turned-murder case being involved in the investigation like that would be just a normal day occurence. Then, from about halfway through the book, a lot of chapters were just incessant ranting of how Annie loved Jon and vice-versa, and how both were so sorry about how things turned out between them, which do not add anything interesting or useful to the story and just makes the book longer.

It got so worse and forceful for me to continue reading that when I got to plot twists that would make me shiver and be wide eyed things simply did not have that effect on me and were just uninteresting events. Even the biggest revelation about who the killer is, which happens in the last 5 chapters, wasn’t enough to make me crave finishing it and I only did so out of spite for not leaving it unfinished with so few pages left.

I sincerely was not hooked to this story and it didn’t make me want to read any further Annie Pederson’s stories or look for the past books set in Rock Harbor.

Story Notes

I was so glad to get to return to Rock Harbor! I loved the first series and was so excited to see how this one tied in with it. Annie is a great character and her flaws mixed with her tenaciousness make her a character to cheer for. Her love for her daughter and her job give her a nice relatability, which is sometimes hard with a new series. The interactions between her and Jon were wonderful and I loved how he tried to hard to win over Kylie. That little girl has some serious issues with Jon - almost overwhelmingly so. Not sure what that stems from but I'll be curious to see how that plays out in the next books. The suspense/mystery part of the story was good too. I did have my suspicions about the culprit but wasn't entirely sure until the end. I definitely want to see what part Taylor will play in the upcoming stories too as I can see she's going to be a continuous character. The flow of the story was very well done and I loved how Colleen kept things from getting too slow or fast by only revealing things slowly. It makes the pacing of the story more realistic - always a plus in my opinion. I'm certainly going to be recommending this book and definitely looking forward to the rest of the series. I have a good feeling it's going to be one that I really enjoy from start to finish.

Edge of Dusk is a captivating start to her new romantic suspense series. Annie's life is on more even keel after losing her husband and parents in a boating accident. Now a park ranger, she is still haunted by the kidnapping of her sister when they were young. While taking a vacation to take of her family marina and to spend time with her daughter, her life is shaken up the return of her former fiancé Jon and a dead body in the marina. Now that his father has suffered a stroke, orthopedic surgeon Jon has returned to sell their Lake Superior home. Jon still loves Annie and is hoping for a second chance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. There is a good solid mystery that kept me guessing. I was pulled into the story also by the mixed emotions of the main characters. Surprising news for Annie at the end of the book has been looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Jon and Annie were teenagers sweethearts. His mother died and to honor her and the future she imagined for her son, he expected Annie to follow him to college. She declined and they had a big fight then broke it off. His best friend Nate stepped in to comfort Annie and since her father kicked her out of the house after finding she and Jon in a compromising position, Nate proposed. She knew he had feelings for her and he made her feel safe so they started a life together.

Flash ahead almost 10 years. Jon is back in town to renovate and sell his Dad's cabin. When he sees Annie again he realizes his feelings haven't changed. But someone is trying to frame Jon for the unsolved murders of two teenagers. Add in threats and attempts against Annie, suspicious visitors, and mayhem against campers making for non-stop action and suspense.

A good read to new books in an old series. It would be 5 stars but I felt it was obvious who was tormenting Annie and Jon. I received an ARC from Net Galley and the publisher and I'm voluntarily submitting this review.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson Publishers and NetGalley for this review. I am leaving this review voluntarily. The title of this novel was well chosen as there was a darkness and a definite creep factor in this suspense novel. Colleen Coble has taken the reader back to Rock Harbor which was the setting for a suspense series she first started writing in 2001. Some of the characters from this series are worked into this new book with smaller roles. Annie Pederson is a young woman with deep emotional scars. When she was only nine years old, someone kidnapped her younger sister while she was with her, and her body has never been found. She lives in Rock Harbor with her daughter, Kylie. Jon Dustan was Annie's first love, but she feels he deserted her years ago to pursue his dream career of going to college and being a doctor at the Mayo Clinic. He has come back to town to help his father, but there is a dark shadow from his past as well. He was a suspect in the disappearance of two young girls right before he left for his new job. Their bodies were never found either. It seems his troubles have found him again. Recently, she is still reeling from the loss of her husband, Nate, and her parents. So, when she finds body that washes up on the shore at her resort, she does not realize her troubles have just begun. Annie is a law enforcement ranger, and it soon becomes apparent she has a target on her back. Jon still has feelings for Annie, and he is worried about her welfare and well being. She grudgingly realizes that she will need his help. You will then go on a wild ride of intrigue, suspense and mystery as they race to find out why the darkness has descended onto this town. The plot line was engaging and intriguing to me as the reader. There are some mysterious characters in this book, some of which will leave you scratching your head wondering who they are. Colleen Coble knows how to write heart pounding romantic suspense that will leave you wanting more. In this book you are left with a jaw dropping ending and unfinished business at the end leaving you as the reader to count down the days until the next installment in this series!

It's 2:30 am, and I just finished the book. As sleepy as I was, I just had to find out how it ended. BUT.... where WAS the end? It left us hanging! It usually upsets me when a book does that. However, since this appears to be the first in a new series, I assume the story will resume in the next one, and I'd like to read it.

At times I was confused, but that's partly my fault, as I was reading two books at the same time (both provided by NetGalley) with very similar plots: Big sister keeps relieving little sister's death and blaming herself, can't quit thinking of her and feels a compulsion to solve the case and find out what happened to her. Many of the characters shared the same names, also. "Find Me" was also provided by NetGalley from whom I received a complimentary copy of both books. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This one had more back story to keep the interest going, and I really appreciated the fact that it was clean with a Christian element. Hoping that Thomas Nelson Fiction makes the next in the series available on NetGalley, as well.

Edge of Dusk by Colleen Coble in book one in the Annie Pederson series.

The way the portrayal of the characters were done was just amazing.
I enjoyed being in their company and reading their story!
The storyline is absolutely ram packed with mystery which kept my interest the entire time.
The details and mystery in this book was so well done.
I found it to be a riveting page turned that captured my interest from the very first page! This was a brilliant read that had me flipping the pages and glued to my seat.
I was not disappointed by this one. And I can't wait to read the second story Dark of Night.

This is a book you don’t want to miss out on. It’s full of suspense and mystery that keeps you guessing at every turn. I loved the relationship that started being between Annie and Jon. It kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning!

This book was SO good!! And I can't tell you how happy I am to realize it's the first book in a new series (yay for me, for starting a series in order for a change)--and still set in Rock Harbor, MI! I've loved Coble's other books set there, and so enjoyed seeing some familiar characters. While readers won't need to have read those first, they are a fantastic Easter egg for those who have. :)

Coble continues to prove she is a master of romantic suspense with _Edge of Dusk_. I was kept guessing until the end (a particularly nice change after some other books I've read lately, ha!), and a few loose ends here will--I hope--carry through to at least the next book. There's plenty of material there, for sure! (And yet, yay for the most pressing questions to be answered, haha.)

Excellent, excellent read.

4.5/5 stars.

Captured my attention:
I thought this was another interesting and engaging romantic suspense with a light Christian aspect. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense and thought the plot moved along at a good pace. However it was not quite as crisp as I would have liked and some of the time frames didn't quite add up. There was quite a lot of tension between Annie and Jon given their past but I enjoyed watching them reconnect and rekindle their feelings.
This book marks the beginning of the Annie Pederson series which is a spinoff of the old Rock Harbour series. Whilst set in the same location and with past characters making cameo appearances, it can nevertheless be enjoyed as a standalone. It ends with a happy for now but it looks like some things are going to be carried over to upcoming books in the series. I look forward to seeing what lies in store for Annie and her family next time around.

Colleen Coble has masterfully written another nail biting romantic suspense. She goes back to Rock Harbor with new adventures for her heroine Annie Pederson. The former characters from the earlier series make appearances and the action is non stop. I could hardly catch my breath I was turning pages so fast. I throughly enjoyed it and I can't wait for the next novel. There are suspenseful questions that didn't get answered in this book. I'll be waiting on pins and needles for the next installment.
*I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers and this is my honest opinion.

Loved it!!! I didn't read any of the Rock Harbor Series, so I wasn't familiar with Bree or any of the other characters. (Now I need to read all the books in that series.) It didn't matter because Annie is the main character and the story focuses on her, her daughter and Jon. I was hooked from the start when Annie's sister is kidnapped and completely disappears without a trace. From the start I knew Taylor had an ulterior motive for wanting to work for Annie. I think I know the truth about her identity and I can't wait for everything to be revealed. Annie and Jon have a great relationship and I love the way that they are together. Once Kylie got her diagnosis, I knew what it would reveal. I definitely don't think Kylie will be happy about what she learns. There were so many twists and turns throughout the book. I never suspected who was behind the murders. It never even crossed my mind. I can't wait to read the next book. This was a great first book and I'm excited for what's next to come for Annie and Jon. Rock Harbor sounds like a beautiful place to live, despite the people being killed. Although, I definitely wouldn't be swimming in the freezing water. Note to killers, when you are trying to kill someone you should always make sure they actually die before leaving the scene. Hopefully everything will be explained about what actually happened to Annie's sister.

Definitely recommend the book. It was a great mystery/thriller. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Of course it had to end that way!! I need to know the truth about Taylor. Look forward to reading more books by the author. Loved the cover of the book.

I enjoyed this Christian suspense read! There is a lot going on here, and there is a beautiful setting, one that should bring peace of mind, but there is evil lurking!

The story starts with a body washing up, and then a cold case of missing teens surfaces, and also it has been twenty-four years, that Annie Pederson's sister went missing.

Jon Dustin is also back after being gone for nine years! Suspicion revolves around this talented Surgeon, he is a suspect in the missing girls, he said he just gave them a ride?

Wow! So much going on here, and some answers come, and yes, there are a lot of surprises. I am hoping that more answers are revealed in the coming books, I felt like I was left hanging with some of my questions!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.

This is another great thriller from the master mind of Colleen Coble. The ending has a few twists and turns that will keep you guessing. When you find out who the bad guy was, you may think, "Really? I thought he was such a good guy. The romance part is very well done and not over the top. It gives you another look into single parenthood.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC for an honest review.

Loved going back to Rock Harbor and reconnect with familiar characters. Never a dull moment for Annie Pederson. A body that washed up and her former flame's return. Lots of suspense in more than one way. Wonderful story!

Edge of Dusk is a romantic suspense novel featuring Annie Pederson, a detective and owner of a resort and marina, who’s sister was kidnapped from Annie’s side when they were children. Annie has a troubled young daughter and since that fatal day, two decades ago, her parents and husband have also all tragically died.

There is a lot going on in this novel and it’s rather complicated. There are multiple mysteries, countless crimes occurring at once, and an assortment of family issues and complexities. The mysteries are rather graphic and gruesome and the characters are clearly flawed, to the point that it’s a bit difficult to root for them. There is a nice Christian message, which I appreciated, and it definitely has an action-packed and suspenseful plot, even if it is a bit unbelievable.

Edge of Dusk is the first in a new series and is quite scenic and atmospheric. If you enjoy Christian romantic suspense and novels that pack a lot into the plot, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this story.
