This is one of the most adorable manga I read for the past years! When the main heroin decided to rescue a strange animal from the street, we meet a cute, fluffy....tanuki. If you don't know a tanuki is a Japanese spirit, looking a lot like a dog (pomeranian I think) for whom its goal is to protect the humans.
And It's so funny because in this manga the "dog" uses a notebook to write and communicate. Everybody, besides the main heroin, seems to understand that the animal isn't a dog but nobody has the heart to say it, as it's just extremely cute.
I must say I was sad to end it so fast, but It only means I'll keep an eye out for the second volume!

C'est sans aucun doute l'un des mangas les plus mignons que j'ai lu depuis de nombreuses années! Quand l'héroïne principalement trouve un étrange animal dans la rue, nous rencontrons un adorable...tanuki. Si vous ne le savez pas, les tanukis sont des esprits ressemblants fortement à une race de chiens (les pomeranians je pense) dont le but principal est de protéger les humains.
Et c'est hilarant car dans ce manga le "chien" utilise un carnet pour communiquer. Tout le monde, sauf l'héroïne, sait que ce n'est pas juste un chien mais personne n'a le coeur de le dire, car il est juste beaucoup trop mignon.
Je dois reconnaître que j'étais triste d'arriver aussi rapidement à la fin mais cela signifie juste que je vais garder l'oeil ouvert pour la sortie du tome deux !

This is a slice-of-life manga with 23 short chapters. We follow our MC (whose name we never find out) as she adopts a tanuki (who is also never named) that masquerades as a dog, or cat, depending on who he is interacting with. Several times characters try to point out the fact that he is a tanuki, but he doesn't seem to want to be known as one for some reason. Perhaps he prefers human company over his own species ?

The MC lives alone, but seems quite close to her family, with her dad being a regularly recurring character. She only ever seems to interact with the immediate people around her, such as neighbors, so I'm unsure if she has friends. Nevertheless it looks like the tanuki fills a hole in her life she didn't know she had.

This manga is very adorable, with an art style that compliments the story well. The tanuki is just the cutest thing, and I cannot get enough of him. Obviously, since this is slice-of-life there really isn't a plot, just sweet moments between the woman and the tanuki. It definitely gave me some warm, fuzzy feelings, so this a great pick-me-up if you're having a bad day. My only complaint is that I do wish the chapters were a bit longer, but that's pretty minor. I will be keeping my eye out for the second volume.

A lovely story about friendship, pets and connections.

The illustrations throughout are beautiful. The character and story are a heartwarming journey.

First and foremost, I'd like to express my gratitude to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with an e-ARC of this manga.
Unfortunately, this manga did not meet my expectations. There were no advancements from the first page to the last, other than the repetition with the same scenarios about the pet and the owner. Their connection was endearing. As per the owner, her life is no longer empty, when she has a person to actually pay attention to.

This was simply delightful!
I don't have much to review, only to say that I recommend it if you have a little free time and want to read something cute and beautifully drawn.
It's a little ridiculous, but that's what makes it so endearing. I love how no one wants to actually SAY it isn't a dog.
But the little creature is to adorable to ignore. I'd definitely check it out if you want a pick me up and a short fun-time.

ARC Copy...I thought was cute and coozy slice of life manga with the only "magical" element being the "dog's" intelligence. Note tanukis are a real animal (and realistically drawn here somewhat) but they can't write on notepads.

With You and the Rain is a really fun, sweet slice of life manga about a woman who finds a Tanuki in the street, and doesn’t think it’s odd at all that the ‘puppy’ she’s taken in can write and eat with a knife and fork.

Ridiculousness aside, I really enjoyed the light, cheerful personality of the woman and the mischievous personality of the Tanuki. There were more touching, serious sections where we saw some of the Tanuki’s past, individuals he’s been around and places he’s been. Every time he meets someone, you can tell there’s a magic there in that they know something is wrong, but not quite what.

Overall, I enjoyed this Manga. The art and the whimsical storylines joined together to provide an enjoyable read that was quick and brought a smile to my face. The few characters that were truly presented were effective and stayed in the mind – I especially enjoyed the father. However, I’m not sure of the longevity of the series, as I can imagine the premise would get old quickly.

OMG, I already loved the description and the cover... but I love love reading it even more. This is one of my fav books of December 2021! 

In this book a girl walks through the rain and she meets a tanuki (first confusing him for a dog). He bribes her with an umbrella (and shows he can do a very interesting talent) and the deal is sealed, he becomes her pet. And so throughout the chapters we see day to day events happening with her and her new pet. From just lounging at home after work to going to a stationery store to get some new paper for his talent to going to the beach. It is all very slice of life and all just what I needed. 

But there is also enough to laugh about with all the things that happen when people realise that this is no ordinary pet. It is not even a dog. It is a tanuki. Some people have some hilarious reactions, some recover better from the shock than others. Like the vet is just one big weirdo but he was also just awesome. Then there is our MC's dad who at first is totally like WTF but then totally falls for the little guy to the point of him buying shirts and outfits. And so there are more on the the daily adventures of these two.

There are also some melancholic and sadder moments which I also liked because they fitted very well with the story. 

I had a laugh at the German couple our MC meets when shopping, I knew exactly what they were saying and loved it!

The art, OMG OMG OMG OMG, this manga has just such stunning art. There are some wonderful scenes that just had me going OHHH and AHH! It was just so pretty. I wouldn't mind having some of the panels up on my walls.

All in all, I am going to be buying this manga very soon and keep an eye out for future releases. I would highly recommend this one!

With You and the Rain is an odd and quite interesting manga actually. I'm not usually a fan of gullible characters, but the main character seems OK. She picks up a tanuki thinking it's a dog and the tanuki uses notebooks to communicate. It writes on them and shows the signs. Everyone tries to tell her that the animal isn't a dog, but somehow they don't succeed. So, mostly the manga is about the girl and tanuki's mundane adventures and friendship. The manga is quite deep in a sense and finds beauty in everything, which was great. It's a collection of sequences in their lives and well done slice of life with peculiar elements. A humor series even if you like.

The art looks super nice and detailed with a hint of sparkle. The characters are lively and the tanuki is realistic and cute at the same time. The art is detailed and light at the same time, so it pleases the eye a lot. My only concern is whether this can offer anything new after this, since there's no real content. This could even be four stars, but for that I would've liked a little more.

With You and the Rain is a slice of life manga with an adorable addition of magical realism. The main character picks up a stray "dog" in the rain and takes it home, "dog" being an extremely intelligent Japanese raccoon dog who is able to communicate through writing. It goes as well as you'd think it would: awesome. Reading this book was great stress relief.

4/5 Cute little manga!

I love slice of life mangas so it was no surprise I liked this. The art was beautiful and the story wasn't confusing to follow at all so four stars! I'd recommend this to lovers of slice of life and short manga lovers.

I was given an ebook copy from Netgalley and the publisher so I want to thank them first. The artwork was beautiful. I loved the fact that they keep calling it a dog. This manga was a quick and calming read. Loved the comedic bit. As for a story... it was just a girl and her dog. If you are looking for something cute and light I really suggest this book!

This was really cute and a bit funny. A tanuki that can write, I actually thought it was a cat Nothing really serious, just a short and cute slice of life manga.

Our protagonist adopts an animal that communicates by writing notes, and every time the question what kind of animal they are comes up, they write "I'm a dog".

Very cute stories in a kind of comic strip style, that fill only a few pages. Slice of life about having a tanuki as a pet. Utterly adorable. I am going to recommend this to so many people!

Absolutely adorable!
The main character adopts a stray tanuki that she mistakes for a dog, starting a sweet and joyful relationship. This light-hearted story is told in short episodes that are beautiful in their simplicity while clearly communicating humor and emotion.
The art style is detailed and simply gorgeous - one of my favorites ever!
I hope there are many more volumes of the adventures of these two.

I am alternately bemused and enchanted by this. The art is cute and the Tanuki (? Why is this a question?)
is a sweetheart.
But there's not much plot other than girl and Tanuki hang out and no one questions it.
So A for art and cuteness

3.5 to 4 stars, because I did breeze right through this.

I absolutely adored this, it isn’t super long, but I so enjoyed my time with it. The mini stories, following their lives with the ‘dog’ are beautiful. I love the illustrations, very nicely done. I will certainly read through this again, and I so hope there will be a volume 2! We all love our furry companions, and this manga illustrates this well. Thank you for my copy of this.

A super cute slice of life about a woman who finds a tanuki on the box on the side of a road and thinks it's a dog so she takes it home. This story is a bit silly and very endearing!

This is super cute. Not much of an overarching story, but something easy and laid back. Th main character finds a "dog" in a box on the street, though it's actually a tanuki (raccoon). This tanuki can write words on a notepad to express its wants and feelings. While the girl never seems to realize it's not a dog, she loves it and everyone around is skeptical, but see how much happiness the tanuki brings her.

The art is great and the relationship between the girl and the tanuki is absolutely adorable. Very cute and would recommend for something light, simple, and heart-warming.

An adorable and heart-warming slice-of-life manga!

With You and the Rain by Ko Nikaido focuses on the daily life of a woman and her strange pet she rescued one rainy day. It has short stories that feature a different aspect of their everyday life, sort of like how The Way of the Househusband by Kousuke Oono is drawn and written.

I enjoyed this so much. It’s so beautifully drawn and reflects the tone and pacing of the story.

This manga is absurd at times that it’s so funny. Especially during the trips to the vet! The poor doctor! The beauty of this manga is the relationship between the owner and her pet - how much they seem to be each other's support in the most unassuming ways. There are poignant bits on the manga that I find utterly charming, like the woman and her pet boosting the self-esteem of their kid neighbor. It’s a touch reflective too, like the bit on feeling lost. This manga really is right up my alley of what I love in a slice-of-life manga, and I’m looking forward to more of this!
