COWBOY WOLF OUTLAW is the sixth and final instalment in Kait Ballenger’s contemporary, adult SEVEN RANGE SHIFTERS paranormal romance series. This is Grey Wolf assassin Malcolm Grey, and witch / bartender Trixie Beuregard’s story line. COWBOY WOLF OUTLAW can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but for backstory I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout. The SEVEN RANGE SHIFTERS series is a spin off from the author’s Execution Underground series.

SOME BACKGROUND: A group of cannibalistic shifters known as the Volk were forging ahead to take over the territory once used by the Seven Range Shifters. Reluctantly partnering with the Volk, the vampires are taking aim at the shifters, destroying anyone who get in their way.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Malcolm and Trixie) COWBOY WOLF OUTLAW follows the building relationship between Grey Wolf assassin Malcolm Grey, and witch / bartender Trixie Beauregard. Malcolm had lost his previous mate Bo to the Execution Underground, and struggled for months with the grief of his loss, choosing to drink away his pain at the Midnight Coyote Saloon, served by the woman that stirs at his heart but Trixie Beauregard is much more than human, and a woman who is struggling with her own demons from the past. When Trixie overhears plans to take down the Grey Wolf Pack, our heroine is pulled into a spiral from which she can never return but Trixie must take refuge with the Grey Wolf Pack, a pack that will see betrayal at the hands of our story line heroine. What ensues is the building relationship between Malcolm and Trixie, and the potential fall-out as Trixie becomes payment for a debt owed, a debt Malcolm is willing to take on his own.

The relationship between Trixie and Malcolm is a frenemies to lovers relationship in which Malcolm struggles with the loss of his mate. Trixie knows the pain of betrayal, of loss, of secrets and lies, and in this, tries to seduce our hero into something more. Malcolm never expected to find himself falling for our story line heroine but his fall threatens the pack that he was learning to call his own. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my ‘romance’ story line.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, supernatural secondary and supporting characters including Wes (Cowboy Wolf Trouble), Colt Cavanaugh (Cowboy in Wolf’s Clothing), Packmaster Maverick (Fierce Cowboy Wolf), Blaze and Dakota (Wild Cowboy Wolf); Warlock ‘Boss’; former waitress Dani, vampires Alaric, Corbin, and Cillian; Detroit Rock City MC shifters Dom, Reaper and Rigs. The requisite evil has many faces.

COWBOY WOLF OUTLAW is a story of betrayal, secrets, lies and forgiveness. The fast paced premise is intriguing and entertaining; the romance is impassioned and fated; the characters are broken, struggling, powerful and healing.

It’s bittersweet to finish reading a series that is now complete. I feel like I’m saying goodbye to characters I’ve come to love and a world I will miss. That’s exactly how it feels with the Seven Range Shifter series by Kait Ballenger. I finished reading the last book, Cowboy Wolf Outlaw, this past week. I’m sad now that it’s over, but I know Kait Ballenger will have more books to read later that I can devour as I did with this series.

Storyline/My Thoughts: The last book, Cowboy Wolf Outlaw, is Malcolm Grey’s book. He’s the executioner/assassin of the pack. Everyone is scared of him and stays away from him, except the bartender, Trixie Beauregard, who happens to be a witch. She knows she should stay away from the dangerous cowboy, but she knows he wants her and can’t seem to stay away from him. She knows his pack is in trouble, but she has her own trouble that she is dealing with herself. She does something that even her boss says she needs to fix on her own. She will ask for the sexy, dangerous cowboy’s help, even if it puts him in jeopardy too. Malcolm has his heart set on revenge for what recently happened to his pack and losing a fellow wolf warrior. It’s bad enough he lost another person he loved dearly in the past that he still hasn’t gotten over. Now, he’s risking his heart again with a witch who could be his downfall.

I fully admit that I loved Malcolm Grey in this book and didn’t care for Trixie Beauregard that much. I didn’t connect well with the FMC because of what she did in this book. Malcolm told her not to keep secrets and lie to him. Well, she did just that and more. It’s frustrating when one of the characters doesn’t stick to their word. I could understand why she did it, but it still didn’t make it right. She infuriated me whenever I read her POV. I wanted to knock some sense into her to trust the wolves, especially Malcolm. What can I say about Malcolm that made me love him right away? His loyalty to the pack who took him in after what he did when he was younger. He had it rough growing up. He didn’t even know he was a wolf shifter. He found the love of his life, and when he did, he lost that person. It broke my heart to find out what happened to Malcolm. He deserved another HEA. Yes, I said another HEA because he did have one initially. The dangerous cowboy may have won me over too, how he was alpha-like like in the bedroom and was about consent when it came to Trixie. There were spicy scenes between Malcolm and Trixie, so be prepared. =)

As for Trixie, now, don’t get me wrong. I did like some of her qualities. I liked how she was a witch, and I got to read her powers in action in this book. It was unique to read her character in a series that generally had wolf shifters, vampires, and humans. She may not have been my favorite FMC in the series, but I liked how she opened Malcolm up and had him find love again. I also liked how she handled her own problem with a certain someone that backstabbed her. That person deserved what came to him for what he put her through.

If you read the series from the beginning like I did and were hoping for an epic conclusion to this addicting wolf shifter series, then just know you will get one. Kait Ballenger ends the series with one final battle that the pack has to deal with, and they will receive help from others to deal with the villains.

Overall, this book receives four stars from me. Again, I’m sad this series ended, but I know Kait Ballenger will have new books/series that will eventually feel that void of missing the Seven Range Shifters world/characters. It also helps that I can always reread the books whenever I want. =)

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Seven Range Shifter series, and each follows a new couple, so each book could be read as a standalone. As someone who has read all six books, I recommend reading in order. You’ll miss out on the other couples that have already received their stories. I recommend starting with Cowboy Wolf Trouble, the first book in the series since Cowboy Wolf Outlaw is the final book.

Steam/Spice: ⭐️ ⭐️ 💫

Trope(s): Fated Mates; Shifter Romance

Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you haven’t read the Seven Range Shifter series, then I highly recommend you do. It’s a paranormal romance series with wolf shifters who are cowboys/cowgirls who are living together in Montana. Think of the show Yellowstone but with shifters. The first book came out before the Yellowstone show debuted.

Delightful Mix of Shifter and Cowboys!!

Our main characters are Trixie Beauregard, a veritas witch who can tell truth from lie; and Malcolm, a wolf-shifter who left Chicago as he didn’t belong, but he also doesn’t quite fit in Yellowstone.

A war is brewing between the pack and the vampires and the Volk. Politics, alliances, binding spells, loss, and romance fill these pages perfectly.

This is the 6th book in the “Seven Range Shifters Series”. This is the 2nd book that I read by this author and I will most definitely be reading more from Kait Ballenger. Up front and center is Trixie who is a veritas witch and Malcolm is a wolf shifter and an assassin. Malcolm did not come from a good family; his father was horrible and his mother didn’t care about anyone but herself. Trixie has made mistakes that she is not too happy about. Malcolm’s pack is in trouble and being attacked. Trixie is a loner working at her bar and Malcolm is out for revenge for death of his friend. Trixie has been recruited to spy on the grey Wolfs and she has deep feelings for Malcolm. With Trixie coming on to Malcolm and being flirtatious Malcolm has other things on his mind as the battle with vampires and not really ready for a relationship. Trixie comes to the pack in need of help and things heat up rather quickly between Malcolm and Trixie. This is an awesome plot that is fast paced an easy read, entertaining, action packed and definitely a page turner that you will not want to miss out on.

I received an ARC via NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca and I am leaving my review voluntarily.

4.5stars
Very interesting paranormal read. It is a read about trust and finding love in a person you least expect. Both Malcolm and Trixi are interesting and very well developed and they make a very hot, interesting story. I love Trixi's sassiness and Malcolm's dedication don't forget about their chemistry. I love the story and how it developed in their own HEA.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley

Having not read the previous 5 books, I was definitely lost. A lot of characters and storylines running at the same time.

Grey Wolf pack is suffering. Recent attacks by the vamps and the volk have left them in a precarious position. Pack assassin, Malcolm Grey feels the sting of losing his best friend in the attack, He now only wants revenge, determined to take his vengeance on the lowlife scum who killed his best friend.
Bartender Trixie Beauregard is a loner. She knows better than to mess with a shifter. With a host of problems to deal with, getting involved with a shifter is a mistake she knows she shouldn’t make. But the attraction between Malcolm and Trixie is undeniable and irresistible.
Secrets are revealed, allegiances are tested and questions of trust are raised in this final chapter of the Seven Range Shifters series. Malcolm and Trixie will both be tested in ways he they haven’t been tested before.

This is the most character driven book in the series. While the action is at a minimum, the emotions are at an all time high. Loss, rage and pain lead to passion, love and self discovery. The final chapters reflect some of the author’s most powerful writing of the series and had me tearing up more than once. This was the perfect conclusion to an amazing series.

Cowboy Wolf Outlaw brings the Seven Range Shifters series to its conclusion. It’s always a bittersweet moment when I’ve loved a series and have to face saying goodbye to characters I’ve enjoyed and have become a bit vested in their happiness.

Malcolm is hurting in a way that only a wolf shifter who has lost their mate can feel. Bo was Malcolm’s world, and while Malcolm is bisexual and has a flirting conversation thing going on with Trixie, the waitress at the local bar, he isn’t actually acting on that in any real sense. He’s more drowning in grief than anything else – and the dangers that his pack still faces are at the forefront of his mind. All that is about to change when Trixie comes to him with new information – and a need for protection.

Trixie is a witch, and her unique talent as a witch comes in handy at the bar she works at. She’s been trapped here by a commitment given without full knowledge of all it entailed, and getting out might be a dream for one day. Until she learns plans that she knows Malcom’s pack needs to hear. Soon she’ll find herself fighting a stubborn wolf while simply trying to stay alive long enough to get him to see what they could be to each other.

I have enjoyed the Seven Range Shifters series so much. It’s hard to let it go. Cowboy Wolf Outlaw brought everything that I’ve enjoyed to this final story. One grumpy shifter, one caring human (witch but Malcolm uses human as almost an insult), pack danger, vile villains… and laughter, tears, fond memories as we get to see old friends, and of course the sizzling chemistry between Trixie and Malcom. This was a good wrap-up… and who knows, maybe we’ll get a spin-off one day and have a few cameos involving old friends. I had fun here, and although this one “could” be read as a stand-alone, I believe reading the series in order gives you access to so much more of the overall series – plus, every single one of these stories was amazing. Now begins the wait to see what this author brings us next. I can’t wait.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Malcolm is a wolf shifter and executioner for his pack. He just lost his mate, Bo and is still grieving. Malcolm is also bisexual which makes sense later on when we realize why he's so antagonistic towards Trixie in the beginning because he feels something for her. But the way he treats her got on my nerves more than once. Trixie is a witch and a bartender but Malcolm pretty much sees her as a human since she's not a shifter and he doesn't want to get involved with a human, so his feelings are being pulled in several different directions.

When Trixie overhears a plot against Malcom's pack, she goes to him and tells him what she heard and asks for his help since she's now in danger. Trixie's boss has something over her and uses it to his advantage. There's much action as the vampires are out to get Malcolm's pack and they have to find a way to win the fight.

I've been reading this series for a while and liked this book but even though you could read this as a standalone, it would make much more sense to read the series in order because there are so many characters and storylines going on. I liked this story but the romance fell short for me. Trixie was great but Malcolm didn't feel like he really wanted to be with her and it showed but for a fated mates story, Malcom's attitude was less than thrilling for most of the book.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The series is best read in order.

Although the book has some good action scenes, the suspense elements were weaker. This is a personal preference though, and may not be an issue for other readers.

Although it is marketed as a fated mate romance, this element was less obvious. Malcolm is still grieving the loss of his mate, Bo. Trixie is attracted to Malcolm but given both characters are fairly flawed and broken in their own ways, the attraction seems less organic.

Malcolm spends some time at the bar Trixie waitresses, drinking away his grief. Trixie is under a “slave” labour contract with her boss working off a debt she was tricked into. Because of this, her loyalties must lie with her owner / boss. This sets her up against the wolf pack Malcolm now calls home in a frenemies trope.

The book has some very intense passionate scenes between the MCs but I was not convinced of their ultimate "mate" status.

Malcom Grey has never felt at home at Wolf Pack Run. Trixie Beauregard is trapped in a situation she wants to leave. Together, they might be able to run and start over with a new beginning.

Cowboy Wolf Outlaw was the sappiest and most romantic of the Wolf Pack Run six book series, but I think it might just be my favorite. It still had some sex, danger, and action, like the previous ones, but I was sad as I read knowing it was the last. Overall, I loved that the ending of this one led to new beginnings with a great wrap up of the series.

Cowboy Wolf Outlaw by Kait Ballenger brings romance, action, and some suspense to the sixth (and final) book in the Seven Range Shifters paranormal romantic suspense series. Set in contemporary times in rural Montana near Billings, this novel features Grey Wolf assassin Malcolm Grey and Beauregard, a witch who can tell when someone is lying. This was an engaging and entertaining read that I did not want to end.

This book was so intriguing.
This is the last book in a series but I think it can be read as a standalone. The author fills the reader in on anything they would need to know beforehand so I was never lost or confused while reading.
This is a romance between two broken individuals; the werewolf pack's executioner whose just lost his mate and the bartender witch stuck in indentured servitude. Both of them have had a hard life. This is why I think their romance works so well. They understand each other on a level that no one else can. They are both outsiders in their communities and find solace in each other.
The action scenes were intense and exciting too.
Overall I think this is a great paranormal romance that many readers will be satisfied with. I will need to read Kait Ballenger's backlist straightaway!

I haven’t read any others in this series and i was still able to enjoy this story. I feel I would have gotten more out of it if I had read the others. Malcom and Trixie have a good chemistry together. She is a bartender and Malcom is the enforcer for his pack. She knows that he is a wolf shifter and she herself is a witch and she can tell when someone is lying. She has some troubles of her own and ends up turning to malcom for help. I really enjoyed this story and will definitely have to go back and read the others.

Cowboy Wolf Outlaw marks the end of Kait Ballenger’s Seven Range Shifters series. While the romance was very enjoyable the series story ARC wrapped up with a whimper instead of bang. There wasn’t as much danger and action this time around but there was more in the previous book so I guess that’s understandable.

Malcolm is still dealing with his grief over loosing his mate Bo. He’s always been grumpy and surly but a witch by the name Trixie seems to bring it out of him a little more.

Trixie is a bartender at a supe bar and doesn’t take men serious and flirts with everyone but one wolf has grabbed her action.

Both Malcolm and Trixie wear a mask to the world to protect themselves from getting hurt again. Every once in a while they let those masks slip but only to each other. There is an instant chemistry between them but neither want to fall in love. Malcolm lit a fuse one night when he kissed Trixie. Now they’ve been dancing around each other. Trixie wants to jump Malcolm but keep her heart out of it, he’s afraid if they go all the way his heart will get broken.

While the raise in action and story ARC of the series comes to a head with a final battle these two have a few personal battles they struggle with on their way to a HEA. Cowboy Wolf Outlaw is a fun, sexy and touching paranormal romance. Series fans will want to see it to the end and new comers will enjoy the romance but might be a little last to the supe war.

I look forward to what Kait Ballenger writes next, perhaps she will give us a story about different shifters?

Malcolm Grey and his packmates have buried another one of their brothers. Malcolm is still reeling from losing Bo, his mate, and now his friend, Austin.

The Grey Wolves know the battle isn't over with the Volk or Vamps, just a matter of time. Malcolm and Blaze are at the Midnight Coyote saloon for a meeting to convince other wolves to join in the fight.

Trixie, the bartender, knows the pain Malcolm carries and she has the ability to read people as a witch. The two play a game with one another, but neither acknowledging the chemistry underneath.

Trixie's soft heart for those she loves gets her into trouble, and while fleeing, she manages to hook Malcolm into her mess by claiming to know a secret if he got her out of the saloon alive.

That trouble isn't going away and when she returned to her apartment, discovered the door ajar and her place ripped apart. A burner phone on the bed beckoned her, and when she placed the call to the only number she learns new terms to save herself, but rather than her helping her loved ones, she's being told to leave them out to dry.

Malcolm and Trixie have both been burned and have trust issues, but when Trixie shows up with her dog, Dumplin, in tow asking for protection, Malcolm opens his heart and only asks that she never lie to him. Trixie needs to find a way out of this mess she got herself into, even if it costs her freedom or life to protect those she cares for. She didn't realize that forgiveness was one way she didn't count on.

I love the world Kait Ballenger has created in this shifter series! I loved Dumplin and how he was a big teddy bear with all the other shifters but Malcolm. One scene where Malcolm was objecting to Dumplin being off his lease because the dog nearly bit him, and Maverick, the packleader, telling Malcolm to bite him back made me laugh out loud. Malcolm and Trixie were both outcasts, who would've thought that a witch and a wolf would be a good match?

I received an ARC from NetGalley via Sourcebooks Casablanca and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.

Book 6 and conclusion of the Seven Range Shifters series. Paranormal wolf shifter romance, This has been a wonderful series to read and I'm sorry to see it end.

What a great conclusion to an amazing series! Full of drama, emotion, and love, this book delves into tying up loose ends and healing old wounds. Malcolm and Trixie are written beautifully made for each other, if they can survive the upcoming war.

Trixie has been working at a bar that serves all supernatural customers. Her favorite one is a very grumpy and reclusive grey wolf named Malcom. He doesn’t hardly ever speak but she feels a connection to him like no other. Since they kissed once she knew that this man was something different and maybe special. She herself being a witch had a gift of knowing when a person lied and she knew that honesty is something he took seriously and never lied. Malcom has finally reached a place where he can move on from loosing his mate Bo. Trixie is someone he has developed feelings for over the last few months but he was determined to ignore them but she is very persistent. The one thing he wants is to be able to trust her completely. Will he be able to do that and declare his feelings for her without loosing her? I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Cowboy Wolf Outlaw by Kait Ballenger
Book 6 and conclusion of the Seven Range Shifters series. Paranormal wolf shifter romance. Best read as part of the series.
Malcolm has been the enforcer for the pack though he has never really considered himself included or part of the pack. Trixie is a bartender at the local pub. As a witch, she’s able to detect lies. She’s intrigued by Marcus when he doesn’t act like the typical drunk and protects her when there is a huge brawl in the bar.

There are a lot of interesting setups in this book.
What isn’t fully addressed in this conclusion is that ultimately it was a war between the vampires and wolf shifters, most of which took place in the prior two books though there is a minor piece still here. That sets up the series for the most part.
Malcolm was bi when he joined this pack but his partner was accidentally killed by a police organization which Marcus doesn’t believe was accidental. This sets up part of his anger with the pack in full.
Trixie is under a “slave” labor contract to her boss working off a debt she was tricked into. Because of this her loyalties must lie with her owner aka boss. She doesn’t have a choice.
Trixie is a strong and confident woman and witch. There are several very steamy sexual encounters between her and Marcus but to me it included very little romance.

Overall it’s a dark brutality between the wolves and other shifters ands the suppression of Trixie bothered me as she is pretty much a slave.
I’m glad I was able to read the conclusion of the series that wraps up a few things. I would recommend the series in full for people that love shifters vs vampire troupes with an underlying romance. Each of the six books has a different couple but it’s always the same shifter pack and some of the characters, such as Marcus and Maverick, are in all the books.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.
