Thank you to NetGalley and W. W. Norton & Company for the ARC
I thought the start was a little fast but then I realized it was to get the story to where it needed to be. The storyline was good something I had not read before. I loved that it was not all focused on the main characters but the other characters also had story lines and they were good. This was a easy read and fun read.

This book was not for me, I really disliked the writing. The story itself was cute and I did enjoy all the Christmas. If you like cute romantic stories with a lot of Christmas this book might be for you.

Ivy is an aspiring screenwriter whose first successful script is for a loosely autobiographical movie- only instead of her longtime ex-boyfriend Nick dumping her she kills him off in a snowmobile accident. The movie is being filmed in their hometown where Nick, a vintner, still lives and Nick is not amused by the ending. Drama unfolds when the star of the movie starts to fall for the real Nick at the same time Ivy and Nick restart their friendship (or more?).

This is a humorous look inside the movie business as well as a fun romance. Although sometimes a snippet of the book is repeated in a different way or is explained in a pedantic way.
Sure a phrase or term might need to be explained but the author sometimes chooses an awkward pedantic way of doing so. An example might be (Location 1449) “The scene about to be filmed was near the midpoint of the movie. The midpoint was the middle of the story.” Again ‘midpoint’ is not a technical term that would confuse us if not explained.

But overall this is a feel good book with lots of history for the main characters. They are appealing and the book is fast paced and absorbing.

I would give it a 3.5/4. We currently own only nonfiction by Keith Giglio and I’m not sure I would buy this book for the library.

The Summer of Christmas by Juliet Giglio & Keith Giglio is a romance novel about the filming of a romance movie. The main character,Ivy Green, was heartbroken when her childhood sweetheart & one true love broke up with her. She writes a screenplay about their love story& helps make the movie in their hometown. Her life is flipped upside down when she returns home from LA, it’s Christmas in July & the movie star playing her is invading her life & her former love.
I am the biggest fan of Christmas, movies & love & this has all three. There were lots of movie references & jargon, but I loved that & felt like it was authentic for a screenwriter.
I adored Ivy’s family & was amused by their antics. This book reminded me of why I love Christmas & Christmas movies, so I am appreciative of that.
There were parts where I felt frustrated from the immaturity & the miscommunication of the characters, but overall I enjoyed this book. Miscommunication is one of my least favorite tropes unfortunately. This is a 3 star book for me.
I would honestly love a Griffin book & would love for him to find himself & the love he deserves.

The Summer of Christmas comes out July 5, 2022!

Massive thanks to NetGalley & Sourcebooks Casablanca for giving me the opportunity to read an arc of this in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about reading a somewhat Christmassy book in the springtime, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one! I found most of the characters to be pretty likable, I could easily see this being a fun TV movie. The only thing I didn't love were the COVID references.

I received this eBook free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was super cute! I loved the unconventional Christmas-y setting, and the book generally was a super quick and cute read. However, I wasn't a fan of the pacing, because it felt a bit rushed at times. I would've enjoyed the book more if some necessary scenes were cut out in favor of expanding upon some of the scenes which I felt were rushed. The pop culture references were also a /bit/ much at times; I don't always mind them in books as long as they're done tastefully and not overdone, however this book toed the line a bit at times.

The Summer of Christmas is fun, charming, and great in theory, but it honestly missed the mark for me. I loved the premise of the story but there were some things about it that just didn't do it for me. First, I felt the pacing was off. Things happened insanely fast and jumped around too much. I felt the writing was a little odd too. Things did not flow or transition well. One minute you would be in one character's perspective and then in the next second you're in another's without any flow. Next, I didn't love the dialogue between the characters. Conversations felt rushed or just didn't make sense. I felt that it cheapened the emotion the characters were experiencing. It was an accumulation of all these things scattered throughout the book that really held me back from really loving this story.

What I did love was all the Christmas! This book did a great job of conveying the magic of Christmas. I loved the descriptions of the decorations, the food, music, and more. I am now even more excited for Christmas this year than before. The characters were great too. The main charter Ivy was full of dreams and I found that really inspiring. The families of the two main characters were hilarious and lovable. Lastly, I loved the inside look at how a movie is made, as well as all the old movie references. It was very fun for someone who loves movies.

Overall, a fun read but not my favorite. If you're looking for a happy ending that is simple and fast-paced, then this is the book for you.

This wasn’t for me, the writing didn’t appeal even though I liked the story fine. The writing was disjointed and a bit incoherent at times. I liked the characters but this just wasn’t working for me.

I wanted to love this. The cover and description were gold. But I found it hard to follow, a lot of telling, and over run with film references. Yes, the main character is a film writer but there were many I was unfamiliar with and felt more feared towards movie buffs than the average reader.

To be honest. I struggled to get into this one. Maybe it was the way the story was told, third person dual narrative style or maybe it was thst the narrating was a bit stilted going back between what was happening and what did happen and what would happen according to cues. Great concept and a fun read once you do get into it! I wish I felt more immersed

"Whoever said love wasn’t authentic? It’s the most real thing there is. But maybe we’ve all become too broken by so many things, that we forget all about love."

I have mixed feelings about this one. The writing was engaging and the book had a promising start but the amount of OW drama started getting on my nerves. I could feel the connection between Nick & Ivy but I felt that neither Nick nor the new guy that Ivy met deserved her. The OW showed up all the time and she really got under my skin to the point that she became intolerable and I did not buy her sudden redemption at the very end at all. Nick was very dense and immature, his actions and the reasons behind them annoyed me. The only reason I'm not rating it lower is because I quite liked Ivy and her relationship with her family. Also the parts where Ivy & Nick reminisced their past in between shooting the scenes were cute. Griffin was my favourite character, at times he left me wishing he was the main love interest instead. To be honest, the amount of drama was just too high and because of that the book did not live up to my expectations.

Her script she wrote about her love was becoming a movie in her town . Her dream came true but been in the same place with him is driving her crazy . The female lead actress is all over him and she is trying to live like her . Will she give her real love a second chance ?

This was a cute rom-com story but it felt like something was missing. The way it’s written is a bit odd as it jumps between characters without warning and also switches between inner thoughts and outside observations about a character as if from another character. I love movies and the process behind making movies so that added to this for me.

I read this very quickly because I did enjoy Ivy as a character. I think her relationship with Nick was overshadowed by a lot of side plot and I didn’t get nearly enough time between them for any tension or relationship to build. Also, seemed odd that Nick was so antagonizing to Ivy given their back story. I know it is a romance book but this landed a little too cheesy for me, which I know some people may enjoy. This just wasn’t the book for me.

This book is focused on Ivy, who is a Hollywood writer, and she wrote a revenge script after the man who she thought was the man of her life broke up with her. Years later, she goes back to her hometown, where they meet again.

OMG, I picked this book up because ANY story with a revenge movie written about it is interesting. I love that concept. If I had to pick a trope to fit this story in, it would be the second-chance trope.

Narration wise, I have to admit, there were times when I felt like the story was one of those where they forced an AI to watch multiple hours of specific content and write a script because the descriptions were too far removed from the story, but in the later chapters it got better. I enjoyed it because I love cliches, but if you're not into that, then I probably won't recommend it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Sourcebooks Casablanca, for the e-ARC.

ROM COM ROM COM ROM COM!! The cover was adorable which is an automatic plus and the banter and LOL moments were AHMAZIN! The plot was easy to follow and seemed futuristic but not in the sense of aliens but post-ish covid which was nice to see how the world has come. I would LOVE to read more of this author and hope their new books live up to this with new twists to the writing world!

Up-and-coming LA screenwriter Ivy Green is about to have her life turned upside down. Her movie, based on her and her high school sweetheart, Nick Shepherd, is being filmed in her hometown. In the middle of summer, during the month of July, the production crew creates a winter wonderland Christmas.
Nick is less than thrilled to see Ivy after all this time. To complicate matters, Ivy isn't sure of her relationship with the producer and the actress playing Ivy develops a crush on the real Nick! Now, with renewed and confusing feelings about Nick, Ivy is determined to see if there is anything left between them, but in the end, Ivy will need to re-write her life script to finally get everything she ever wanted.

Love this juicy story. So many LOL moments. The situations are totally hilarious. Both of the main characters are likable and have great chemistry. A quick fun read.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
