I managed to read the book before the audio was approved.

Even having read the synopsis, I thought this would be your typical romcom with the typical happy ever after. While you do get your HEA, nothing about this is typical.

I remember once when I was talking to my kids about how words hurt, I used an example I'd seen online to explain it to them. I scrunched up a piece of paper and explained that that is someone's feelings when you say mean things. Then I asked them to smooth it out, and explained that even when you say sorry, the feelings have still been hurt and can't be totally fixed or forgotten, like the paper that can't be restored to its original perfection. Well, reading this book, the paper was my heart. This story well and truly took my heart and crushed it chapter by chapter, just when it started to unfold, the author stomped on it again a few more times just to be sure. By then end it was smoothed out again but still crumpled and damaged. Despite the emotional turmoil I experienced at the hands of Greenberg, I could not put this down and finished it in just over a day.

There were a couple laugh out loud moments which helped to fight off the constant lump in my throat. I loved that Zoey was confident, and willing to stand up for herself and those she loves, and I adored her friendship with Hannah.

What I didn't enjoy while reading this was the constant use of the word complicated. Zoey is complicated, Zoey wishes she was uncomplicated, Hannah is complicated. It was used again and again. Also, early on you learn that Zoey's views on the world and relationships are different to most, and again you are reminded of this constantly.

That being said, I highly recommend this to those that enjoy romance and thank you to @netgalley and @macmillanaudio for the ALC

Wow ... language ... if you have "virgin" ears ... beware. I didn't learn any new words, but Zoe isn't shy about using foul language. Ok, enough said, you've been warned.

I really liked the last 1/3 of the Bad Luck Bridesmaid.

So Zoe is 0-3 as a bridesmaid enjoying a wedding reception. And immediately on the heels of the 3rd failed nuptials, her boyfriend proposes. Zoe is ... well ... complicated. She has always found a new way to be comfortable in her own skin; going to dances, she was content with dancing solo.

Zoe's best friend set her up with said boyfriend (who is a cousin to the BFF); the BFF wants Zoe to be maid of honor for her destination wedding in Ireland after meeting her fiancée only 6 months ago. As you can imagine all sorts of complications arise at wedding number 4. Well, actually, the number and extent of said complications are more than anything you could possibly imagine.

There were really some great lines in this book; once the book is published 11 Jan 2022, I plan to update this review with some of my favorite quotes.

I'm so darn tempted to provide a 4 star rating based on the foul language, but I really liked the last 1/3 of the book. I listened to the audio of Bad Luck Bridesmaid and Sarah Naughton really did a great job narrating.

I saw some reviews where they didn't like the ending; I liked the ending and I thought it was perfect.

Thank you to NetGalley, Alison Rose Greenberg the author, Sarah Naughton the narrator and Macmillan Audio the publisher for the advance read (listen) copy of Bad Luck Bridesmaid in exchange for an honest review.

I actually really loved this! If I sound surprised, it's only because it was so different from what I expected. Rather than being frothy and light, it felt substantial and sharp and thoughtful. It was still fun, though! I loved the characters and totally related to the MC. I laughed out loud several times. And I LOVED that I truly had no idea how it was going to end. It did work out how I hoped it would, but I could see it going a couple of different ways, and the uncertainty kept me totally hooked all the way through the last page. I look forward to reading more from this author!

This was a cute love story. Zoey is bridemaids in three of her friends' weddings. The only problem is that once its time to walk down the isle the friends never get married. Zoey goes on in life thinking that the issue is her- she feels she is the reason her friends never actually get married. One of her closest friends is getting married except its going to be in Ireland. Zoey is still heartbroken over her own romance issues and she is still deeply in love with Rylan who will also be at this wedding. After much crazy fun antics and pre wedding fun- Zoey and Rylan end up realising their love for one another. Zoey also finds out that she is not the cause of her friends failed marriages. Everything works out in the end for everyone.

I listened to Bad Luck Bridesmaid and I am thankful that my friend told me that this is a women’s fiction novel and now a romance. I truly believe knowing that helped me go into this story with eyes and my mind open and in the end I really enjoyed this tale of a woman who believes she brings bad luck to her friends who are brides every time they ask her to be a bridesmaid. Because when they do, they never seem to make it down the aisle.

Zoey is unconventional and she doesn’t want to fall in love but she does when she’s introduced to her best friend’s cousin, Rylan. However, Zoey has sworn off marriage for herself and is reluctant to commit forever to any one person, which poses a problem in her relationship with Rylan.

appreciated that Zoey kept true to herself and it’s a fault of many real life relationships where people ignore certain parts of themselves in order to conform to what life or their partner’s needs are, which can lead to heartbreak. This message is a realistic one and I appreciated how different it was to other novels.

This was a well written book and the pace was steady so that I was kept engaged the entire time. I was always wondering what would happen next and although it’s the ending that I would have loved, it was good enough that it made sense. The narration was also great and I really enjoyed listening to this story.

As long as you know that this isn’t a romcom, I think you’ll like this book as much as I did.

Thank you Macmillan Audio for the alc. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Zoey has been thrice a bridesmaid but never wants to be a bride. All the weddings she had been in have never went through. This gives her doubts that she could ever get married. She is now a bridesmaid for her best friend Hannah, Zoey is determined to get her down the aisle in hopes this will give her hope about marriage.

This was a nice read. It had its funny moments and a few steamy ones. But as warned in the synopsis this is not a rom com. It as modestly enjoyable but I was frustrated with Zoeys actions toward the end. I wont speak for as they are spoilers.

I could see where they could be setting up for a sequel. If they are I may be interested in finding out what happens next. But it would not be the top of my list.

Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an advanced audiobook for review.

Zoey is sure she is bad luck after she is the bridesmaid for three weddings that never were. When her perfect boyfriend proposes she just cannot accept and he finally gives up on her and demands she leave and she is heartbroken. Thinking she is never going to find love, her best friend Hannah gets her to come to Ireland where she is getting married and asks her to be her bridesmaid. This is the last thing she thinks she can do. Will this be the ruin of her friendship and another wedding or will she get back together with her boyfriend. I wasn't sure about this one at times but overall enjoyed it.

This review is really hard to write because I really enjoyed reading this book, it was engaging, the story was fun and the main couple was adorable and with great chemistry. The friendship was amazing too and I LOVE the message of the book, I truly do, but the ending was not what I wanted and that's not the book's fault but it just ruined it for me. I understand it and if I hadn't felt betrayed by it Iwould have rated it higher, but my instant reaction was "well that's bullshit" so I just can't.

I'm really struggling with this review because I could have loved so much about this, but it was really the ending, the blurb and the cover that were off for me.
Zoey Marks is someone so completely happy with being on her own she doesn't do relationships. It isn't because she wants to really keep her options open with men as much as the world. She wants to experience everything and her likes and dislikes can change so fast and she doesn't want to rely on anyone for her own happiness, which is commendable. She is always up front with her partners and that is why she never has relationships for longer than 3 months.
Until she meets Rylan and she falls head over heels. With her string of being the self proclaimed "bad luck bridesmaid" she isn't really interested in marriage and has known that from an early age. Rylan is someone she loves, but will he love her despite the fact she is complicated or will he be willing to give up things to be with someone he loves?
When I read the blurb and saw the cover I was instantly drawn to this book. It was (to me) marketed as a second chance, but it reads more like chic lit. If you are someone who wants to read a funny book about a heroine that knows what she wants and isn't willing to compromise and settle for anything less than she deserves, this book is for you. Unfortunately, without spoilers I can't get into more of the ending, but I gave this book 2.5 stars rounded to three because the writing is good, I just think that maybe my expectations were not what they should have been. If the ending had been different at all, literally the same ending but done differently, I would have been ok with it, but it felt very weird to me as it was. I had no issues with Zoey's views on love and marriage at all.
The narration was spot on, and Sarah Naughton did a great job bringing Zoey to life.
Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillian audio and the author for and early copy.

3.5 stars (4 rounded up) This book had some cute factors to it, but also some I didn’t like. The friends are great, but Zoe thinks too highly of herself. Also the ending was predictable from the start.

#BadLuckBridesmaid:

“Had I become every protagonist in every rom-com? Was I Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, Katherine Heigl... but with a rib cage tattoo?”

Zoey is bad luck. No, really. She’s a badass at life, but every time she’s a bridesmaid, the bride never makes it down the aisle. Does she believe in love? Sure. Does she believe in marriage? Based off the last 3 walks to “The Luckiest”.. not so much. Can she make it 1 for 4 with her best friend now walking and she’s nursing the hardest heartbreak she’s encountered?

I thought this was a fun book. First off, these musical choices between Mazzy Star, hating U2, to Ben Folds, I was swimming in all the feels. I enjoyed Zoey as a character and really loved watching her in different relationships. Sarah Naughton is the reader, and I’ve come to enjoy Sarah after listening to Float Plan. She brought Zoey to life and had me laughing at the best and right times. The snark played out so well with her reading.

The only thing that really didn’t sell me on was the love and heartbreak for Zoey and Ryland. I didn’t really feel so “bad” for Zoey because I felt I couldn’t connect to their romance to really long for that rekindle after the breakup. I felt like all the flashbacks were fun, but didn’t really grip to me long for them to get back together. It helped mold the complacency she felt, but I felt we could see her grow better without with less of the book about that.

Overall, the book was a wonderful depiction of love and long lasting friendships, but I wished it was more about said relationships instead of pining over what was lost. There are funny and inappropriately hilarious parts, that I couldn’t help but think these were my people and my friends.

Thank you so much MacMillan Audio!

3.5 stars. I liked the plot of this book, I just didn’t care for the main romance aspect. it dragged on a little too long for a kind of meh resolution. otherwise I rather enjoyed zoey’s internal monologue, her best friend, and ezra. I just wish we had a little more of him

This book is a perfect lighthearted Rom-Com that I thoroughly enjoyed. The narrator did an excellent job at telling the story and the writing is funny and engaging. The story is good without being over detail oriented. I do think there could have been a bit more background stuff, but liked it despite the lack of world building. At first I didn’t like the flashbacks, but later got the hang of them being a constant theme in the book. rooting for this unlucky girl to have a happy ending to her journey was a pleasure and I could easily see myself listening to it again..

Bad Luck Bridesmaid is a fun, quirky read. After being a bridesmaid for three brides-to-be who don't make it down the aisle, Zoey comes to the conclusion that she is cursed. Greenberg excelled at crafting characters who felt real and I especially felt connected to the protagonist. I cared about Zoey and was invested in her journey of self-discovery. Plotwise, there were quite a few moments that made me laugh and the ending fit the story perfectly (others may disagree... I predict it will rub some readers the wrong way). Overall, I recommend this title and would be interested in reading more from Greenberg in the future.

Zoe is a difficult character to love I can't say that I loved her throughout the book however I think she just couldn't admit to herself the truths and I loved Rylans character I hated that he had a broken heart it made mine hurt for him I hoped they end up together in the end but im glad everyone was finally able to tell their truths

Zoey Marks has been a bridesmaid 3 times... to brides who have not made it down the aisle. Crowning herself 'Bad luck bridesmaid', her view on marriage has been tainted, making her realize that its not for her. When her perfect boyfriend Rylan proposes, she is desperate to have her mind changed, but is unable to take the plunge, leaving them both heartbroken. Her bestfriend Hannah comes to her, asking for her to be the only bridesmaid in her upcoming marriage to a man she just met, in Ireland. Zoey is convinced that if she can get Hannah down the aisle, it means that she will be ready to make it down the aisle herself.

I liked this a lot more than I originally thought I would! The writing style is addictive, and very easy to read. I enjoyed Zoey as a main character, especially because she was flawed and she knew it. I loved the self-discovery journey she began and how her story concluded. I also loved Hannah, Zoey's bestfriend and how supportive they both were of one another. I was not the biggest fan of the way Rylan and Zoey acted at Hannah's wedding - but I don't want to spoil anything. I listened to this on audiobook, and I thought the narrator did a great job with these characters and their story!

Thoughts : I was given a chance to listen to an advance copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review . This was a witty and humorous story of Zoey who is the Bad Luck Bridesmaid .. if you ask her to be your bridesmaid you most likely won’t make it down the aisle on your big day. If you want a fun not to serious read then give this one a try. How many times have you been a Bridesmaid or Groomsmen? Here i am having a little too much fun in the photo booth at my friend Nicole’s wedding where I was a bridesmaid #badluckbridesmaid #alisonrosegreenberg #netgalley #audiobookstagram #audiobook #booklover #advancelisteningcopy #macmillanaudio

I'm going to listen to my instincts and DNF this one. I'm 11% into the audiobook and so far, nothing has happened. The main character, Zoe, has rambled on about things and is kind of an awful person. She is too cool for everything. It is annoying.

***Please note that I appreciate the opportunity. Because this was not a good fit for me, I did not rate it on Goodreads or any other site. Since I did not finish it, I did not want to skew the overall rating.

As much as I wanted to enjoy this one - I had to DNF around the 42% mark. I wanted to hold out hope for Zoey that she would reach her own special version of happily ever after but I couldn't handle it. Listening to her thoughts and just the constant monologues blaming her severe case of anti-marriage on her being a bridesmaid at failed weddings.

I'm sure if I kept on going with it, I might've continued to have a soft spot for Zoey but it just wasn't happening. Her cynicism was just too much for me to handle right now - so maybe it's a me thing?

I hope others read this one and enjoy it way more than I did! :)
