I have loved Chen's books because of the (for the most part) inspirational figures included in the author's books and did one did not disappoint. However, I did miss the colorful illustrations so I will have to seek the book out when I can.

I loved this book and had a great time listening to it with my children. My daughter was especially excited to hear that they were all amazing girls, just like her. I enjoyed hearing each person and it was interesting telling it through colors. I am going to have to buy a physical copy because I think the pictures are a must with this book. I look forward to reading it that way as well. The audiobook was a fun way to experience this book as well though!

This was a fun audio version of an awesome picture book. I would recommend having this be a supplement to the picture book, not a replacement. I LOVE that it was narrated by the author, that is such a fun addition to the pictures book. But the picture book is what will really appeal to the young readers it was created for. This is such a fun way to approach the diversity of achievement by mighty women that this book is celebrating.

I was able to review Colors of Awesome! 24 Bold Women Who Inspired the World
by Eva Chen Macmillan Audio for providing me with an advanced ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My daughter and I enjoyed this audiobook. With a theme of colors, it shares the struggle for women’s rights throughout recent history. This audiobook was fun to listen to 24 women who are AWESOME!
Eva Chen, the author, associates each color with a series of women. From Judy Garland to Sandra Day O'Connor to Cher, Chen briefly highlights their accomplishments in an easy to understand way.

Colors of Awesome! by Eva Chen was a great book. We have other Eva Chen books (A is for Awesome is a favorite here in our home!) and we were so excited for the opportunity to read another of her books! Kids need more books like this–it introduces kids to important women from history and gets them interested in learning more about their story. By connecting color to famous women of history, kids will remember and make connections with these figures when they encounter them again later in life. This book is great for fostering understanding and compassion in our little readers and I would recommend this to all parents and kids.

4 Clever Stars!
When I saw this, my first thoughts were ~ How clever! This is perfect for upper-level elementary school students. It highlights the accomplishments of inspirational women and connects us to them by their signature color: Such as Judy Garland as Dorothy with her red slippers in the Wizard of Oz.

There is no doubt that it is too short, definitely needs a companion piece; something with more detail on each of the women. However, it would make for a great school project.

Personal Note: When I was working on my masters in School Counseling, I was a 4th Grade Teacher’s
Assistant. I can totally see those fourth graders getting into this project. They could do a detailed report
on one of the women mentioned or pick another one they were willing to research.

Remember;
Do something awesome today and come let your true colors come through!

Want to thank NetGalley and Macmillan Audio ~ for this audio eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.

I did not post a public review anywhere. I also did not finish the book, though short.

While I would not discourage anyone from reading, it is not a book I feel that I could recommend or even include in my classroom library. Most of my career has been in a very small, very conservative town. There would be an epic uproar if the parents came across the section about pussyhats. While I try to keep anything political very neutral within my classroom, and personally am liberal, I don't really know how I feel about including such a polarizing movement in a children's book.

Thank you for the opportunity, but it felt best for me to pass on posting public reviews.

This book is a fun look at 24 women who are, well, as the title suggests, AWESOME! Eva Chen, the author, narrates this fast read. Chen associates each color with a series of women. From Judy Garland to Sandra Day O'Connor to Cher, Chen briefly highlights their accomplishments in an easy to understand way.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for making this audiobook available for an honest review.

Super cute book about colors in women’s history. Fun read, and educational. The only downside in my opinion is the use of the specific name of Pussyhat. While that is the correct name, I think some parents will choose not to read this book to their children because of it. Most children will not get the reference to a pussycat and parents will have to have a conversation they are maybe not ready for. Overall I really liked the book, but I think it would be a hard sell to parents especially at my library.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the advance audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

My daughter and I enjoyed this audiobook. With a theme of colors, it shares the struggle for women’s rights throughout recent history. The vingettes were interesting and comprehensive, with details that brought the story to life. We enjoyed the narrator, who I believe is the author, also.

Overall, a good listen that we would recommend.

The audio of the book was crystal clear, and I had no trouble hearing every single word.

I listened to this on audio and it was very good!! Pairing historical women with the colors of clothing items that they have worn before is awesome!!! From Princess Diana to Kamala Harris to Judy Garland…there are 24 women highlighted thru colors!!

I believe the actual book will have a bigger impact on the readers at our library but I did enjoy listening to this book.

Thank you for an early digital copy!!

Inspire young female and minority listeners to overcome challenges and make the world a better place. Stories are organized around the colors that these famous females are connected with throughout recent history. Stories range from artists, activists, athletes, scientists, and so many more. Peppered throughout with quotes from famous ladies throughout history, this book is narrated by the author in a bright, determined voice.

Colors of Awesome! is a short book about American women who have overcome challenges women face or whose achievements have moved the needle positively for women in America. This review is of the audiobook version, and a nice page turn sound was added to the audio. Sometimes the nature of the connection to the color wasn't always clear since I couldn't see the images or illustrations of the women who are profiled. The short biographies of each women are the perfect length for young children.

Eva Chen did a wonderful job narrating this book and I cannot wait to see the printed version which I can only imagine will include beautiful and colorful illustrations based on the name, cover, and content of this book.

In a world and time where so many girls around the world are still fighting for their rights, their education, Colors of Awesome showcases many strong and powerful women from different backgrounds, religions, and ethnicities.

I though the way the “colors” were introduced to the women was extremely clever and original, like nothing I have encountered before.

Can’t wait to purchase this book as gifts to nieces, friends, students, and my own kiddos.

This book is awesome! A perfect opening for a biography unit, a history lesson, or a moment to empower young girls and boys, this short book mentions some of the best examples of sisterhood in history.
The “colors” part started off great - but then loses its traction and its connection to the women it features. I would have loved to see examples such as Kamala Harris’s white power suit and Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland)’s ruby slippers continue, that is what makes this book unique.
The audiobook doesn’t really work as a standalone if you are looking for the color connections, but would be a wonderful companion for my students who need the support of an audio to accompany print.
That said, I will happily purchase both the print and audiobooks to add to my classroom library. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest opinions.

In a similar vein as the empowering female voices books such as She Persisted and Rebel Girls, the Colors of Awesome! by Eva Chen introduces the reader to strong women in history and the current era. The stories follow the colors of the rainbow, and draw connections such as red for ruby slippers, and then tell about Judy Garland's nomination for an Academy Award in The Wizard of Oz.

The connections between colors and accomplishments was a fun way to celebrate the various women who are writing their stories with empowerment and grace.

I highly recommend the audio version of this book! I especially enjoyed that it is narrated by the author.
