This is a book that wants to be about everything but the dang mystery. My ADHD is now medicated, but even so, I still have limits. So if you'd like to hear every detail of her teen patients' absolutely first world problems or her father's TED talks on violence and the state et cetera, then this protagonist is the one for you. I, on the other hand, did not care for it.

A solid addition to the thriller genre that lives up to the hype. A recommended purchase for collections where thrillers and Scandi-noir are popular.

As a lover of thrillers, I had high hope for this book! Mostly, I enjoyed reading this story, but did feel at times thing were a bit predictable- which isnt necessarily a bad thing. I prefer to be a bit more surprised.

I enjoyed this book eventually but it really is a slow sort of noir novel, not a fast paced thriller. The premise appealed to me as it's about a psychologist. My mother was a psychologist so I really grew up in that world. It takes place in Norway and sort of follows two timelines, the present where the main character's husband has gone missing and seems to have lied to her, and flashbacks and dreams about their lives until now.

I did not guess all of the "whodunnit," though towards the end I guessed the twists and part of it. I liked that the author gave you pieces to figure it out on purpose for part of it. It's billed as a psychologist who begins to doubt her own sanity, but I don't know that it really entails that. She more seems to be spooked by what starts going on (rightly so) and bothered that the police doubt her sanity and/or honesty.

This book was translated from the original and the translation seems to have been well done. It's apparently being turned into a movie and I think it would suck as a movie to be honest. It would be way too easy to figure out everything that happened, because you really need the long and boring bits about everything in her life to get what happened but not figure it out right away. Movies have to be too fast and edited, and there's no way you wouldn't guess it all if they focused on the bits that lead to what ultimately happened. Perhaps if it were turned into one of those Netflix limited series with 8 parts... but two hours? No way. It only works with the minutia.

I read a digital ARC of this book via Net Galley.

I have been patiently holding my breath breath for The Therapist by Helene Flood.
This cover is just so eye catching and the description is intriguing.
Let me say it did not disappoint.

This character driven story is one for the books. It was full of suspense and questions as the story progressed.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning with this great storyline and the great and believable characters. I can’t say enough good things about this book!
The twists are clever and unforeseeable leaving this reader perplexed and afraid for the potential outcome.
This is the type of book that needs to be devoured.
A rollercoaster of a story and one you won't want to stop until its over.

Mobius Books,

Sara wakes to what she thinks is a normal day. She is a therapist and deals predominately with children. Her husband Sigurd is part owner of a architectural company. Sigurd kissed Sara goodbye and left for a fun guys weekend. He is to meet his two buddies Thomas and Jan Erik at Thomas' cabin. Approximately midmorning Sigurd leaves a voicemail on Sara's phone telling her he arrived safely.

Later that day Sara receives a call from Jan Erik saying Sigurd never made it to the cabin. Sara is confused. At first she thinks the guys are pulling a joke on her, but as time goes on and she does not hear back from Sigurd, she realizes that he really is missing.

"The Therapist" starts a little bit slow, but ends with a shock that I did not see coming. It is a domestic thriller with lots of secrets and big reveals that will shake the reader up. This is my first Helene Flood novel. I can't wait to read more from her. "The Therapist" will be published February 1, 2022.

Thank you NetGalley and Mobius Books for this intriguing e-book. I am honored I got to read it.

Excellent psychological thriller. Sara has no idea that when her husband wakes her in the morning to say goodbye before a trip away with his friends, that she will never see him again. When Sara has trouble contacting him later that day and then hears from his friends that he never made it to his destination, her life changes forever. As strange occurrences start stacking up, including someone breaking into her home multiple times, Sara knows she must find out the truth on her own, especially since the police don’t seem to be helping. Fast paced, suspenseful thriller.

I really enjoyed this thriller! The author is a psychologist herself and she skillfully created many situations which played with character’s mind. I was so creeped out myself by the things that were going on in the main character’s home. The plot twist was predictable and the ending was a little odd but overall pretty good read.

Sara is a psychologist and runs a small practice out of her house. She specializes in troubled kids and currently has three unique patients.

She receives a voicemail from her husband Sigurd that he has arrived at the cabin for a weekend away with his good friends, Thomas and Jan Erik. She returns her husband’s phone call only, he doesn’t answer. Thinking nothing of it, she goes about her day. Later on in the evening Sara receives another phone call, this time from Jan Erik saying that Sigurd never made it to the cabin.

At first Sara is angry. Why would they play this cruel joke on her? However, as the hours pass, she begins to worry that she hasn’t heard from her husband.

The events that follow lead Sara to question everything she has known about the people in her life as well as her own sanity.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Interesting story of a therapist whose husband disappears and is murdered. told both in flashbacks and the present, it is a story of a marriage gone wrong and a possible unreliable narrator. Is she being targeted by the same killer? did she do it? is it all in her mind? both a psychological study as well as a police procedural

I picked this novel up due to the cover and was not disappointed. Absolutely loved this thriller! Sara is a troubled teen therapist married to an architect named Sigurd. When she wakes for a busy day at work she find out that her husband did not arrive at the cabin to meet his friends for a fun weekend. Strangely enough, he has left her a voicemail stating he was in fact in the cabin. Thus starts a creepy narrative between the police, Sigurd's secrets and Sara's own personal life. You won't guess what going to happen next and you won't be able to put the book down until you find out!

I cannot wait to read the next book by Helene Flood (The Lover). As a psychologist who works with trauma, she has all the experience to paint a believable and interesting story. If you like cat and mouse games, psychological thrillers, domestic thrillers, this is a great book for you!#MobiusBooks #Mobius #NetGalley #HeleneFlood #TheTherapist

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

I really enjoyed this one- the coldness of Scandi Noir, with extra twistiness. The fact that none of the characters are remotely likable only adds to the story- you’ll have to read it too see what I mean. Even though I didn’t feel comfortable in this little world the author has created, I was sad to finish the last page, and I miss them now. Definitely want more from this writer
