I received a copy of this work from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Descent into Darkness is the second book in The Chronicles of Deneb series. It stands fairly well on its own but would clearly benefit from being read in sequence. This book could be improved with a bit more proofreading and slightly tighter editing as it does suffer from some egregious typos and some pacing issues. That being said the plot is fast paced for the most part and, while the character development is lacking, the reader's interest is engaged enough that it wasn't a struggle to finish. Some clever concepts and a good setting help to mitigate the book's few flaws. Overall, an enjoyable read, though one that could be bumped up to a true success with a bit less information dump exposition and a bit more character development. I'd say overall this is probably a 3.5 out of 5 but I'll grant it a 4-star rating because I did not read the 1st novel in the series.

I didn't realize it was a sequel when I started reading it. Which is my bad. I saw the cover, read the synopsis and went for it. I recommend reading the first book in the series first. It was a little hard to follow at first for that reason.

The writing is great. I liked the style. It kept me engaged and reading long enough to figure out what was going on. I enjoyed how the different points of view wove together to move the plot along.

This books is the second in The Chronicles of Deneb series. The Flight of the Mayflower is the first book. The story is about a group of humans who escape earth in a massive spaceship and land on a world with aliens , who seem to share human DNA. The first book must be read to follow the action in Descent into Darkness.

A science-fiction military action novel. I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, The Flight of The Mayflower before diving into this sequel. I didn’t and had a lot of blanks to fill in. My loss. In this second novel, humans have integrated into their new alien worlds and are facing their new reality. What happens when the problems you hoped you left behind haunt you? How do you handle the ones your new world have in store for you? Will you do more harm than good? The author is an expert on military matters so everything in that vein was totally believable. The large cast of characters was complicated but well thought out. Very realistic as a military action novel but lacked the hard science fiction details of the aliens and their worlds this reader was hoping for. I suspect we’ll see more from this author.
