This is an intriguing book with characters that have motives that they aren’t telling anyone about. It’s intriguing and interesting and I was caught up from beginning to end.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

Heads up, this is a sequel, so definitely read LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO first! (Or at least check out my recap 😉). I TOLD YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN won't really make much sense without the background.

This is a good follow-up to the first book, and it's interesting to see where Carrie ended up after.

Both of Elaine Murphy's books are silly, over-the-top, and such fun rides. What else would you expect from a story that's from the POV of a serial killer's sister? This is a fun, goofy popcorn read, and you'll love it if you go in knowing what to expect. I love the unique perspective.

I'm confused by all the other Goodreads reviews saying Carrie is the serial killer--she's not, it's her sister Becca! It says so in the blurb lol.

Fabulous beach read and great suspense book! Butttt I didn’t realize it was the second book in the series so definitely need to go back and read book one now!

Thank you to NetGalley and all for an ARC copy in return for an honest review.

I read the 1st and 2nd in this series back to back! I couldn't get enough! So funny, and crazy the situations she got herself in!

Suspenseful, Sinister & Spine-Chilling

I was so extremely excited to see that there was going to be a follow up to “Look What You Made Me Do.” It was wonderful to get back to seeing what Carrie's life was like after losing her sister. This thriller started out with a bang, and I was unable to put it down! Murphy's debut novel had me hooked from the first page in both of these books and her writing style is everything that I love in a mystery author! I highly recommend this author and I'm excited to see what she releases next!

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

I had to request this book based off the cover. I absolutely love it!
I didn't read "Look What You Made Me Do" before reading this one. I actually didn't know this was the sequel. Ooops! It didn't matter though because I found this book so entertaining and wasn't able to put it down!! I was constantly guessing and had some laugh out loud moments. This book is definitely thriller/dark comedy.
I do recommend reading the first book just so the reader can get some backstory on Carrie and her sister, Becca. I'm now going to go back and read the first book!

Carrie Lawrence is at it again - but this time covering up her own crime rather than her sister's. It's so suspenseful throughout, though juxtaposed nicely with humor. There's something so absurd about Elaine Murphy's books that just makes you go "But why??", giggle, and then turn the page. I'd say that this book feels much lighter than the first, though I wouldn't recommend reading this one first. (I know, I know...)

But this is the perfect summer beach read for someone who wants a bit of suspense and humor, and overall super enjoyable.

I loved this book even though it’s about a girl that gets away with terrible crimes as does her sister - normally I don’t think I would like this type of book but the author does an excellent job telling the story (it's not terrifying) that you don't even really dislike the characters. The plot is outrageous but there's something about it that you really can get into. After reading the book, I found out it was a sequel but honestly that did not impact being able to read this without having read the first one - I did it and I still LOVED the book. I will however read the first book now because this author is great! I didn't want to put the book down - it was a fast and easy to read book - it had alot of great characters - it also had twists and turns that you didn't expect.

I thought the author did an excellent job of describing all the characters in the book. For example, with regard to the second realtor, I could just imagine working with him and feeling his desire to sell me something I didn't want.

What I liked about the book - the author was able to get you to actually like the two sisters, especially the one that helped her sister even though she had done things that are not acceptable behavior in society. I liked the dysfunctional relationship between the two sisters. There was slight humor throughout the book again even though the subject was not funny at times. I liked the nice things that the one sister tried to do - like let the dog loose so the mother that needed a sign could find it. I liked the ending - it was not predictable but it felt like an ending.

What I would change about the book - literally nothing. It was fantastic!

I tried really hard to get into this one but I just couldn’t and I don’t know why. This is typically everything I want plot wise in a book but I just couldn’t get sucked in like usual.

Did not realize this was a sequel but then read the first then read this and loved. Thank you Grand Central for the ARC for my honest review.

First off I had no idea that this is a sequel so it can be read as a stand alone. Now I will read the first one because it will provide a lot more back story. The book was a super fast read. It had a good amount of humor, darkness and emotions. Now off to go read the first book!

I will start off saying this is book 2 is a series which I did not know. This is not the best as a stand alone. Grab book one and then read this and it will be more likeable

I was halfway through this book before i realized it was a sequel — oops! Maybe I lost too much context by reading this one first, but i didn’t enjoy it enough to go back and read the first. The characters were irritating, and I wasn’t invested in their arcs.

I Told You This Would Happen is a sequel to Look What You Made Me Do, so of course I had to go read and read that one first. While you could probably read each as a standalone, I was definitely glad I read them in order as it really helped build the relationship of sisters Becca and Carrie. While there are definitely some laugh-out-loud moments throughout the story, it was overall anticlimactic and slightly drawn out for me. I did appreciate the development of Carrie, but found Becca to lack any redeeming qualities. As a serial killer, the reader will immediately dislike her, but I kept wanting a reason not to. The fact that Carrie puts up with her sister at all annoyed me throughout the story, but without the co-dependence of the sisters, there really wouldn’t be a story. The book was entertaining in the moment, but not super memorable. That said, I would still read a third book if one came out!

A huge thank you to the author, Grand Central Publishing, and NetGalley for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. #IToldYouThisWouldHappen #NetGalley

I didn't realize this was a sequel when I requested it and I might have liked it better if I read the first one. I really dislike books with unlikable main characters and this one just didn't appeal to me. I had high hopes for the book but it was a miss for me.

I Told You This Would Happen
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 4 stars
by: Elaine Murphy
Genre: Thriller/Fiction/Mystery/Suspense
Thank you for the arc copy @netgalley @grandcentralpub

Carrie Lawrence is trying to live her best life. She is hopeful for an engagement with her boyfriend, Graham, very soon. She's trying to piece her life back together after the death of her sister, Becca, that happened four months ago.

Becca was a serial killer who planted evidence on each body to lead the investigators to believe that Carrie was the murderer. Becca used this as a way of blackmailing her sister to help her move the bodies and to keep it a secret. Sisterly love right?!

Now all signs are leading to Becca actually being alive and on the hunt to find her next victims. Once again Carrie is smack in the middle of it and she's afraid everything she's built, since Becca was presumed dead, will be lost. Very shocking plot but very intriguing. I didn't want to put it down!

DNF!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this book. It has a solid plot and good character development. Initially, it seemed very interesting to me, but as I kept moving forward with the story, I grew to dislike the female lead more and more. I have no problem with dislikeable characters but her relationship with her sister (serial killer #1) is beyond my comprehension. The way the sister acts, even if she is a psychopath and deranged, it makes no sense and possibly makes you have homicidal thoughts.

I can see how this book could be entertaining to some, but it wasn’t for me. The writing felt rushed and I kinda of hated knowing everything up front. Hopefully I’m in the minority and others end up loving this one

Poorly executed with a ludicrous plot.

I Told You This Would Happen is the follow up to Look What You Made Me Do by Elaine Murphy. The story starts 4 months after Carrie Lawrence loses her sister Becca, a narcissistic serial killer, to another serial killer called Footloose (rolls eyes). She feels like she's finally free, because she doesn't have to help her sister hide bodies in the middle of the night anymore. After attending a meeting for the Brampton Kill Seekers, a group of amateur sleuths, she realizes that her secrets are at risk of being revealed because she's not innocent to at least one murder. A series of events to keep herself from being implicated causes her to become even more guilty.

Elaine Murphy seamlessly blends background information from the first book into I Told You This Would Happen. I honestly felt like I wasn't missing out by not reading Look What You Made Me Do. However, Carrie and Becca's toxic relationship is the only thing that kept me reading. It attempted to show how familial obligation can take over a person's whole life. Carrie is a boring and unlikable main character, because all she does is complain about having a serial killer sister and never take responsibility for her part. In short, Carrie makes me cringe. As she's being followed and cornered by the detective I'm hoping she gets caught and has to come clean. The climax fell so short. I was like wow that's it? This story had potential because the writing style was addictive and edgy. Yet, the bulk of the plot was incredibly disappointing. I don't know what adult is going to read this and think it's intriguing or realistic. I started to wonder if this was supposed to be satire. I hate to say it, but read this only if you want to laugh at a bad popcorn thriller.
