I found this to be an entertaining and enjoyable debut story. Carli's true passion is writing music. Until she gets her big break and so she can pay the bills, she's working as a junior account manager at an entertainment firm. She's sensible, grounded, and follows the rules. Then Tau is assigned to her as a client and he really stirs things up. He first comes off as just a playboy looking for a good time, but we soon find out there is more to him than meets the eye. It was interesting to see how the industry works behind the scenes instead of just the glamour usually portrayed. More than just a romance, the story is also about following your dreams.
I think this was a good debut book by this author and I would definitely try one of her books again.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

A story based on the music industry, a young woman with dreams of making it on her own, working on her own, then of course finding love in the midst to it all. I loved Carli, she was such a strong character, she was so relatable. She is a woman in an industry where women are not as respected, and she wants to make sure she holds on to her reputation. Then she meets Tau, an artist that's going to be working closely with her boss and her firm where she works, and as soon as Tau saw her, the rest is history. Carli was not letting him get anything easy, but their connection was too powerful to let pass. He respected her as a writer, as a woman, and also encouraged her. There were a lot of in-betweens that made her question her whole career and her romance, but the way she pushed through for her dreams? it was admirable, I loved how the author did that. This was an inspirational read for me. Thanks Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Trying to get her big break, fledgling songwriter Carli works as an assistant to a music agent. When R&B star Tau shows a romantic interest in Carli, her boss warns her about the rules against fraternizing with clients. Will Carli choose business or pleasure?

This is a complex story with complex characters. It's smart, emotional, and uplifting. I enjoyed the music industry elements and Carli's self-confidence.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Carli is a singer-songwriter hoping to make it in the music industry. In the meantime, she works at a big media company to get by. Then, she meets and gets involved with superstar, Tau Anderson, both personally and professionally and the lines between business and pleasure begin to blur. This is a charming romance. Carli is a hardworking admirable heroine trying to make it in a business that overwhelming favors males. Tau is a surprisingly unstereotypical rock star with a big heart and a genuine thoughtfulness for those he cares about.

The story delves a lot into what is is like to work in the music industry both in general and as a female working in the industry. The former is fascinating if you have an interest in learning about that sort of thing. The latter is infuriating but not necessarily surprising. The end of the book is very open-ended although it seems hopeful especially if you like to look at things optimistically and assume they will work out. However, if you prefer things to be more tied up at the end of a story or you're more of a pessimist, you may not like that.

I did not finish this book and DNF'd at 50%.

Here are the reasons I did not finish:
-The pace was very slow and I didn't have the patience to continue reading.
-I really liked the main character, and her experience and career ambitions, but there was so much information about the music industry which, while interesting, is not why I'm reading this book.
-There wasn't a lot of engagement between the main character and the love interest.
-Overall, I didn't understand what we were driving towards. There was no overarching goal or plot point that told me what we were trying to achieve or what this novel would culminate in.
-I think the book was well written, but this is a case where the book was just not for me. The writing style isn't one that I enjoy and the dialogue seemed off.

Overall, I think there is definitely an audience for this book, but this one just wasn't for me.

If you're interested in reading about the music industry that also has a hea I think this might be the book for you. Though the book started off a bit slow the representation and family/friend dynamics was worth it.

I was excited for this book & I love reading about the music industry. Unfortunately, I didn’t click with this one! It was a bit too chaotic for me.

Thank you for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Love books set in in the music industry. This was a glamorous read
That gives an inside glimpse into behind clothes doors type information.
Has a great premise, characters, writing style ect.
High key recommend and enjoyed
Would make a great television series or movie

Carlisa “Carli” Henton is a musician and songwriter hoping to follow in her father’s musical footsteps. But, biding her time until she makes it big in the music industry, she works as a junior account manager at a big-name media company to cover her New York City rent. Carli meticulously balances her work with her musical endeavors as a songwriter—until a chance meeting with rising star Tau Anderson sends her calculated world into a frenzy. Their worlds collide and quickly blur the strict lines Carli has drawn between her business and her personal life, throwing Carli’s reputation—and her burgeoning songwriting career—into question.

A smart, timely, energizing romance, Good Morning, Love shows us what the glamorous New York’s music scene is really like and takes us into the lives of a rising but somewhat troubled R&B star and a promising protégé who knows her job better than she knows herself.

With fresh and honest prose, Good Morning, Love examines the uncertainty of being a new professional looking to chase a dream while also trying to survive in a world that’s not always kind to ambitious women.

Good Morning, Love is a story about Carli Henton, a junior account manager at a media company. Carli dreams of becoming a songwriter but once she meets superstar Tau Henderson they begin to blur the lines of business and pleasure.
After reading, I struggle to consider this book a romance. Unfortunately, I did not find Tau’s cocky demeanor endearing and it was difficult to root for Carli and Tau as a couple. The story does pick up about 30% of the way through and Carli quickly changes her mind about interacting with a client. However, this leads to her and Tau having to hide their relationship.
While this story's romance was not strong, I did appreciate Carli’s relationship with her friends and the diverse cast of characters. The author's knowledge of the music industry came across easily and the character’s passion for music was evident. Besides that, the characters did come across as a bit two-dimensional. I would recommend this for readers who enjoy music and the workings of the entertainment industry but not for a love story.

I really really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately, it struggled to hold my interest. I am thrilled to see more diverse stars in romance and that's absolutely something we desperately need. However, I just felt like there was too much going on. Maybe I'm just not interested enough in the music industry, but this wasn't the book for me.

I don’t feel like I’m the right reader for this one. When it comes to romance, I’m not a big alpha male person. It also felt a bit flat for me. I also thought that the lingo that was supposed to be ‘cool’ felt out of place and pulled me out of the reading experience each time it was used.

*3-3.5 stars

Carlisa Henton is a beautiful and talented young musician/songwriter working as a junior account manager at a big-name media company when she meets their new client, Tau Anderson, a hot R&B pop star. He pursues her relentlessly but her boss warns her that she will not tolerate any fraternization with clients. What's a girl to do?

This is a charming story with lots of insight into the NY music scene. I enjoyed meeting Carli and her friends in these pages. Light summer reading for fans of Jasmine Guillory.

I received an arc from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks for the opportunity to read a novel from a talented new author.

Long story short, Tau deserves better! It’s common for main characters to be a bit annoying in romance novels as part of their character development. Carli wasn’t that for me. She was essentially a horrible human that didn’t deserve the pureness of Tau’s love. Carli is the definition of selfish, and she learned it honestly from her daddy. Tau is written as my personal kryptonite: he’s an handsome, honest, and cocky man with dimples and some deep personal trauma to resolve. Carli is written as a selfish, one-note, and absent-minded person.

I was not rooting for them AT ALL!! When Carli got in that car for BWI, I gave up on the story entirely. Their love never felt developed for me. Tau was all in yet kept calling everything “kicking it” not to scare Carli, and Carli kept miscounting the time since meeting him as an excuse to LITERALLY hide from their relationship. Once or twice, this could be taken as cute then you remember that she’s damn near 30, and she did this EVERY TIME they were in public. I appreciate Tau calling out her on this BS just for that to also not matter when she then does it again and again. I understand the power dynamics of a relationship and wanting to stand on your own, but even I saw that she was embarrassed/uncomfortable to be with him in public.

The book also had some inconsistencies that bothered me. At first, Carli had body insecurities as to why “Tau could never be with her,” but we didn’t hear anything about that after their first car ride. The slang was all over the place and didn’t match the tone of the book. I was frustrated by some additions to the story such as the Marisol plot point. That entire plot point could’ve been removed, and the story would be exactly the same. Honestly, all of her backstory felt inconsistent and not needed as it just made her appear even more selfish friend and an even worse human. I wish we had more backstory on Tau, but I also wish that he found someone that ACTUALLY gave a damn about him.

Lastly, the story didn’t really feel like it ended, but I was also very glad to be done with it. There’s clearly a time gap between chapters 32 and 33 that weren’t exactly explained. I just hoped that she finally let go of that bull-headedness and actually began to love Tau. More so, I hope she has some idea of what she wants because she DEFINITELY didn’t throughout the book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Read this if you like: Multicultural representation, music, NYC setting, quick reads

Carli meticulously balances her work with her musical endeavors as a songwriter, that is until she meets rising star Tau.

It shows what the New York music scene is really like. The chemistry between our two MCs is good but not a constant. This book to me is more women's fiction than romance. It shows the lives of a rising but somewhat troubled R&B star and a promising protégé who knows her job better than she knows herself. The characters weren't as developed as I hoped. I wish it had been a dual POV but that may just be a preference. I liked it but it lacked something for me. I wanted to be more engaged. You may love it. Get it June 21st.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Simon & Schuster the gifted copy! ❤️

3.5/5

Going into this one I thought it was a romance but I realized soon enough that it definitely leans more to just straight up fiction than a true romance novel. No big deal but I hate when my expectations are off so figured I would share that. This follows Carli, whose 9-5 job pays her bills but gets in the way of her real dream of being a songwriter. When she meets Tau, who is a rising star in the music industry, her life gets shaken up. My favorite part of this one was the behind the scenes look into the music industry in NYC and LA. I find that so interesting and thought it was showcased well here. It did have a bit of a slow start and I wasn’t fully invested until about halfway, but then my interest was piqued and I was into it. As I said before this was more fiction than romance and any romance there was was pretty tame and definitely felt like a secondary plot. The focus was more on Carli and her personal issues and while that was cool I think there was potential to do more with the romance. The ending was also super abrupt, I actually went back a chapter in the audio version because I was like, no way it just ended like that, right?? Speaking of the audio the narrator, Angel Pean gave a fantastic performance and I credit her with keeping me engaged. As a debut I would definitely read the author again, the writing was good and this was entertaining enough I just wish there was a bit more romance and closure in the end.

Alright y’all. I really enjoyed the first 80% of this book. It is such a good and fun story. But, to me, it falls apart in the tail end of the book. What feels like should be a major side story for Carli feels rushed and brushed off. The whole end of the book seems rushed to be honest. But I will say that the first 80% is worth reading. I love how this book explores women, particularly women of color, in terms of business and relationships and society. I love how Carli loves in this book. Its a cool story so give this one a read when it comes out on June 21.

Carli is an aspiring songwriter and marketing executive when she meets R&B star Tau. They hit it off immediately, but she is determined to keep it professional. Will Tau win her over (and leave behind his womanizing past) and will Carli be happy with her place in the music industry and with a famous musician?
This book is a cross between the tv show Empire and the book Seven Days in June. I really liked the music industry insider stuff and liked the two main characters a little less. Carli didn't seem to know what she really wanted but was stubborn and misfocused, which I found to be kind of annoying. I was also confused by the very abrupt ending. It was not a long book and it seemed like the ending was cut off? I could see this being a series but wish the story arch at the end had not just run into a cliff.

All in all, I liked this romance set in the music industry, especially its uniqueness.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy for review.

I read another romance novel prior to this one and thought maybe I was just burnt out on the genre. Nope. I really enjoyed this storyline and CC's desire to make it on her own. Great strong female character. Hearing about the music industry was interesting. I felt the ending was a little abrupt. I really want to know what happens next

I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Ashley M. Coleman is a storyteller and community builder moonlighting as a writer and music industry executive. Whether working with music makers or writers from marginalized communities, creating safe gathering spaces and education for creatives is at the center of her world. Her freelance writing has been featured in ZORA Magazine, GRAMMY.com, and The Cut, among others, and covers culture, lifestyle, and personal narrative.

“Finding my voice taught me everything I wanted was outside my comfort zone.”

Carli is a force of nature. She is a rockstar at work and works equally hard in her free time to make her dream of being a songwriter come true. When her job leads to an encounter with a huge pop star, the last thing on her mind is a relationship. Until she gives him a chance, now, her world is flipped, and she has opportunities she only dreamed about.

I loved the characters in this book. I loved how diverse, and well rounded they were. For being a debut novel, Ashley Coleman crushed it.

I enjoyed this story. I loved Carli, her personality, drive, and understanding for who she is was beautiful. I loved her relationship with the people in her life, her outlook on life, and her hustle.

I loved the pacing, this was a hard book to put down. I enjoyed following Carli as she worked for her dreams. I loved how she represented herself, women, and especially women of color.

This was a really beautiful story, that flowed beautifully. It is clear that Ashley Coleman has a solid understanding of the music industry, and she represented it well.

It was awesome getting to peek behind the curtain and reading about how things are done. I loved that the focus was more so on the behind the scenes aspects of creating music. That brought such a rare and wonderful aspect to the story.

I thought the book ended somewhat abruptly, but I’m not mad about it. I enjoyed Carli’s journey, and I liked that I was left to basically decide how things went.

This could be a series, which would be amazing. There are so many characters and avenues to explore. This was a feel good novel, filled with so many beautiful moments.
