Great read that kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved the twists and turns that kept me guessing every step of the way.

This book had me hooked in and I totally loved the whole gossipy element of it, with the neighbours of the gated community all knowing what each other is doing. I pretty much dropped everything else I was reading because I wanted to see where this was heading.

I did find the whole business with Lacey way too familiar, having read a certain other book and thank goodness it did have some differences. Unfortunately though, the ending felt really jarring and just didn't work for me.

I really believe this author has great potential, as the story telling was brilliant and captivating. I feel her next venture may reach greater heights.

I received this arc from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

The Girl Beyond the Gate is a thriller that is set in a gated community and focuses on Jodie, who is attempting a new start in life, and her neighbors Norah and Lacey. The chapters alternate between Jodie's and Norah's POVs; however, we also get to know some of the other neighbors (and their secrets) quite well. I didn't particularly like either of the main characters; however, I think they were written to be unlikeable. Despite being unlikeable, the characters are well-developed and the pacing of the book is well done. It's an easy thriller that can be read in a day or two. I've read quite a few reviews that stated that the end was unsatisfactory, but I actually thought it was the perfect end for this book - I honestly quite liked the ending. I definitely recommend The Girl Beyond the Gate.

Well, this was one of them, the one you stay up high alert reading. I loved it. It Jodie ie Madison is ready for a fresh start and buys a home within the gates of Kensington Grove. She begins to take a shine to her fourteen-year-old neighbor Lacey. Lacey is terminally ill and confined to a wheelchair. Her mother Norah is very controlling and overprotective of her daughter. She isolates Lacey from everyone and is suspicious of Jodie and her daughter’s friend. Even the internet is off-limits.
Some people look at gated communities with a bit of envy, after some may turn their heads remembering Lacey.

When Jodie moves to Kensington Grove she’s hoping for anonymity and a fresh start. What she gets is curious. She curious about her neighbor and her sick child. She’s curious about the neighborhood. She’s curious about the perfection of it all. But Jodie isn’t one to let sleeping dogs lie. In investigating her curiosities, she tries to hide the past she’s running from, from this perfect community. Will she find the answers she’s seeking? Or will it all catch up to her?

This was a very quick, easy and engaging read. Day does a fabulous job of keeping the secrets, secret and capturing the reader to keep reading to find answers. Even when I think I had it figured out, there was something new, unexpected, and interesting that made me read faster. I highly suggest you read this if you need a high interest thriller, but want to expend only a little brain power figuring it out.

Welcome to Kensington Grove, the safest place to call home....
Jodie Madison can't think of a better place for a fresh start than the exclusive, gated community of The Grove. But from the moment she passes through the wrought iron gates, she starts to suspect she's made a mistake. Even though she knows she shouldn't Jodie becomes involved with Lacey, the young girl who lives next door and who suffers from cystic fibrosis. Lacey's mother Nora is extremely is overprotective and does not like Jodie or the fact she has become a part of her daughters life.

A twisty story tale with a creepy feel about it but I have to say that this book did not really grab me. To me the characters were unlikeable and except for Jodie there was not one I warmed to. I detested the ending which is always a big failure for me after investing my time in a story. I found it unsatisfying in that it felt like the author just needed to wrap things up and finish the book. A three star read for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

A fun read but twisty to the point of absurdity. Also, there is a tone change toward the end that doesn't sit well with me at all.

A great fast paced read. Jodie moves into a gated community after some personal tragedies and wants to start fresh. She doesn't want to get involved with the neighbours but fast becomes friend and confidante to Lacey a sick child next door. Nora, Lacey's mother is overprotective and soon makes it her mission to keep Lacey away from Jodie. Oh the drama! The begin to scheme against each other. Who is in the wrong? Can't wait to read more from Becca Day.

Thank you Netgalley for this arc

Thank you to Net Galley and Embla Books for the chance to read and review this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

I really liked this book! It caught my attention from the first page because I wanted to find out what was going on in this seemingly perfect neighborhood. It kept me guessing until the end. Speaking of the end, I wasn't thrilled with it. After reading the whole book, I wanted a little more at the end. It felt really rushed. Everything else about the book was great!

A riveting and addictive whodunit. I loved this thriller. It was twisty and chilling with so many secrets revealed.

A fresh start in a new and seemingly picture-perfect community sours. I loved the Gypsy Rose vibe with poor Lacey and I was absolutely dying to find out the truth.

I did not see the ending coming, totally shocking!

Jodie Madison moves to Kensington Grove a gated community so she can start over. She is a journalist who gets to write a human interest piece on her neighbor Norah and her daughter Lacey who has Cystic Fibrosis. Lacey is only 14 years old and forms a friendship with Lacey. Norah is one controlling mom and doesn't want Jodie talking to her daughter.

A resident ends up dead and Jodie decides she must take action and find out about Norah's past and save Lacey. Most of the residents are hiding secrets which makes this a fun read as you are never quite sure what is going on behind closed doors.

Loved this rollercoaster of a read, could not put it down! Jodie Madison is a single woman who recently moved to a small gated community in a new area with hopes of a fresh start and to forget her tragic past. She quickly discovers this small gated community has secrets of their own. For instance, her direct neighbors Norah and Lacey are a mother daughter duo. Lacy, the daughter as health problems and is wheelchair bound and glued to her mothers hip, never left out of sight. Jodie is instantly intrigued with these two and eventually develops a relationship with Lacy, angering Norah. Which is when we then start hearing things from Norah's perspective and her secrets and paranoia. You think you have it all figured out up until the very last chapter, could not believe when it ended, I wanted more....

Wow, what a rollercoaster ride of a story! The plot twists are incredible. Throughout the book, you'll be thinking and attempting to figure out what's going on.

Jodie Madison moves to Kensington Grove in the hopes of making a fresh start and overcoming her problems. What better place than Kensington Grove to do so? It's a gated community that was formerly an asylum before being refurbished.

Lacey, her 14-year-old neighbor, has grabbed her interest since she moved there. Lacey is restricted to a wheelchair due to her illness. Lacey's mother, Norah, is incredibly controlling and overprotective of her daughter. She is so protective of Lacey that she forbids her from making friends or communicating with anyone unless she is present. Lacey is completely powerless in Norah's presence. When Norah discovers that Lacey and Jodie have been conversing, she becomes enraged with Jodie. She warns Jodie to keep away from Lacey, but she doesn't seem to take her advice.

Jodie detects something strange about her neighbors right away, and she will go to any length to protect Lacey from her mother. Jodie feels she has to get Lacey away from her mother after discovering some information about her background after a resident turns up dead. The only difficulty is that Norah is aware of Jodie's background, which she is concealing.

I will say that I didn’t like the ending. I really wanted more.

Jodie Madison moves to a gated community, leaving her old life in the past. She is soon intrigued by her neighbour, a single mom, Norah and her disabled daughter, Lacey. Jodie’s journalistic senses tingle when she realised how isolated Lacey is and how keen Norah is to keep it that way. But why is Norah so determined to keep Lacey to herself? Jodie knows she must find out, even if her own secrets are exposed along the way.

I REALLY hated the ending to this book. You know when you finish a book you’ve enjoyed and the ending wraps it up well so you have a small sigh of contentment? Well I didn’t get that. I enjoyed the book even though I found it a touch predictable but it was almost like someone told the author they had to finish in 20 pages. All that build up and then a rushed, patchy ending? It genuinely ruined the whole story for me. I was really invested in Lacey and Norah in particular and I wanted to know more about what had happened previously, never mind what happened next!

If I ignore the ending, the rest of the book was nicely written and paced and I clearly cared for the characters. I found Jodie and her grief particularly understandable.

I’d read more by this author, as I liked her style in the main. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy of this book.
