I absolutely LOVED the Last Fallen Moon! Riley Oh is one of my favorite fictional characters ever. She is just so darn lovable. I was so worried, mid-book, that she didn’t have enough hope left to survive her journey… I was wrong! The new developments and supporting characters made this a must-read-until-the-end! Ready for war now!

A worthy sequel to Grace Kim's first outing with Riley Oh and crew. I enjoyed picking back up with Riley, her family, and friends. I was curious to see what would happen with the Gifted Clans after the climactic events of the first book, but had no idea what direction things would go next. I actually enjoyed the setting of this book a little more than the first one as there was a lot of fantastical elements to play with, but there were some things I missed in this one too. I was a little disappointed that many of Riley's friends had much more of a background role in the narrative. I especially missed Emmett's and Jennie's voices. That being said it was really fun to get to see more of Hattie and to meet a couple of great new characters. Overall, a strong sequel and I am looking forward to the trilogy's conclusion next year!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC in return for a fair and honest review.

This book will peak the interest of youths if they like:

-Korean Culture (I’m looking at those kids who are into K-pop/ current Korean culture) sometimes it a great gateway towards introducing culture and creativity too;

- twisty tales about a tween coming of age, facing epic obstacles;

-mythological beings, magic and strong friendship bonds

- stories which embrace the emotional and mental stress of a young character.

A great follow up to Kim's previous Gifted Clans novel (apparently it will be a trilogy). Familiarity with the first book is very helpful to required, despite the author's efforts to catch readers up. This book is set primarily in the Korean underworld, which was very interesting for someone unfamiliar with Korean traditional religion and lore. I'm looking forward to the third volume as well.

After finding out that she's the last fallen star, life has been tough for Riley Oh. Her clan has lost their powers and none of her family and friends can remember her. After an attack on her house, Riley decides to sneak into the spireitrealm in order to convince Uncle H to be their new patron saint and restore the clan's powers. While there, she must navigate many trials with the help of her sister, who's in a coma, and Dahl, a heaven born boy she meets there. While I thoroughly enjoyed book one in the series, the rebranding of the spiritrealm threw me off a bit in this one. It seemed like the author was trying to make the Korean mythology more relatable, but I much prefer the classic legends presented in book one. That said, I will continue to read the series as it seems there will be more adventure to follow.

I eagerly anticipated this book after being completely thrilled with the first, The Last Fallen Star. Graci Kim has done a great job of weaving Korean folklore within modern day moments. The story picks up a few months after the first book, a time in which Riley is still experiencing the highs of her success, but also the angst and effects of what those decisions meant for her future. Spurned by a this-could-work idea, she begins another adventure in an effort to change the current situation.

I thoroughly enjoyed the change of scenery from real-world to spirit-world, which includes a cast of new quirky characters. I appreciated the emotional turmoil Riley works through, especially in that going back to normal is difficult - and grapples with is it even worth it. Again, with the ending, Graci Kim has set the stage for a great third book.

This was an exciting story! While still very centered on our hero, Riley Oh, this series is really beginning to take on a fun, varied ensemble cast, similar to my favorite Rick Riordan Presents series, the one centered on Aru Shah. This entry in the series mainly took place in one very funny version of a Korean-inspired afterlife or underworld, and was a thrilling ride.

I never expected the afterlife to have a rebrand but both I and Riley discover just that in The Last Fallen Moon! The lighthearted twists, turns, and word play kept an incredibly high stakes and time sensitive storyline bright enough to not leave me despairing the whole time. I particularly fell in love with a darling dog side character.

Thanks to NetGalley and Rick Riordian Presents for an early read in exchange for my honest review.

Another wonderful entry in the Rick Riordan Presents imprint, and another in an intriguing series. I can’t wait to share this book with young readers and to see what’s next from Graci Kim.
