There was so much about this that was super fun and worked for me.

This was really unique in a lot of ways and the writing style was easy and fun. I loved Artemis' personality. The first half was great and I loved their early interactions and the flirty banter was amazing. I also really liked the dynamic of Dominic having a teen daughter and trying to navigate being a parent. That was something new for me in a historical setting.

We also had a planned ruination, marriage of convenience, and a feminist sexually experienced heroine that writes gothic romances. All of that I was here for and really loved.

Something held this back from 5 stars for me and I don't know what it was exactly, but I didn't swoon for these characters as much as I wanted to. I liked them together and everything about them being together just seemed really easy and natural but also kinda of boring after the first initial flirty moments. There just was never a push and pull between them, they both just pretty much adored each other. Which is nice, but didn't blow me away.

I would have liked some more details in the sex scenes because it felt like Artemis' personality didn't get to really shine through there. I also found it a bit odd that she didn't insist on using protection and wasn't even the one to bring it up, considering she brought it up at other points in the story a few times.

I think things with Celeste could have been a bit more impactful and I would have liked to see them actually develop a substantial relationship other than talking about books.

The ending had so many components going on with multiple villains and it was a bit much for me, but not irritating. Overall I enjoyed this and am excited to see if I can find a 5 star read from this author, I think the odds are in my favor.

There were a lot of the likeable HR tropes here, but for anyone who reads a lot of HR, this one might feel a little same-y. Rich duke? Check. Auburn-haired heroine? Check. She's a bluestocking? Check. And a secret author? Check. Has a disapproving aunt? Check. And so on. This is an insta-lust setting, with some seeming mysteries that turn out not to be mysteries so much.

There were a few funny lines of banter, but I could have done with a little more humor. Also, this was my first book from this author, and I felt like there must have been more backstory with the book club, yet I see this is book #1 in the series. I also thought there were a few moments that were indicating a ghost story or Bertha in the attic situation, but that didn't pan out, and I rather wish they had!

I would read another in this series to see where it goes from here.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

This trope gives me all the feels, the let's fake it and promise not to get feelings for each other.

I mean, it's like a hallmark movie, you know how it's going to end, but that does not in any way, shape, or form, stop you from diving right into this book. Oh my, that chemistry really had me between Artemis and Dominic, bonus that Artemis is a gothic author by night for sure. I really enjoyed this book the whole way through, and have to say that the last 30-20% of historical romances of late have been hit or miss but this one is on point at the end of the story. I could not put this book down once it all started happening *no spoilers*

This was a good first book in the series. The characters were well developed. I would definitely recommend it to a fellow romance reader.

I enjoyed this one! The characters were well developed and the progression of their relationship was done well. Artemis is driven and has no interest in marriage but she is willing to undergo a season to get one for her sister. Dominic is looking for a wife to help him with his daughter but with rumors abound saying he murdered his last wife, he's having a difficult time. When these two meet, sparks start to fly and their story kept me turning the pages to see how things would end up.

If you're looking for a quick and engaging read in the historical romance genre, definitely pick this one up.

A fun and entertaining, if somewhat predictable, first instalment in a new series. Who knew that an unconventional heroine and a reclusive hero could generate that much steam? The chemistry between those two is off the charts.

After a disastrous first season, Artemis Jones turned her back on polite society and became a teacher at a finishing school. Her dream is to open her own school for young women one day, where they will learn science and mathematics instead of flower arranging and needlepoint. In order to raise the funds needed for such an endeavour, she has been writing gothic romances under an assumed name. Then she receives a letter from her dear friend, begging to accompany her for one final season in London. Artemis quits her job, determined to support her friend and at the same time secure a wealthy donor to her school, but her aunt insists on forcing her on the marriage mart. Left with no other options, Artemis turns towards Dominic Winters, a widowed Duke suspected of having killed his first wife. She orchestrates her own ruination, but then Dominic proposes to her in front of her aunt. Reluctantly, Artemis agrees to be fake-engaged, to help Dominic raise his daughter, in exchange for the necessary funds for her school. But the attraction between them might just be too strong to fight.

I am in love with Artemis. She knows herself, she has her goals, and she doesn't really care if society thinks she's too opinionated and unconventional. She's also no blushing virgin, which is a welcome change from the usual female main character in historical romances. Dominic, on the other hand, tends to avoid confrontation and is quite lonely because of the rumours surrounding his first wife's death. It feels a little bit unrealistic that he never fought back against the rumours, but it does set up a nice mutual villain for both Artemis and himself to unite against.

The writing in this was amazing, including in the many steamy scenes between our main characters. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the next instalment in the series very soon.

I was delayed in reading this arc and though I was very excited to get started... it fell flat. Normally I enjoy references to classic literature but this was too much for me. They seemed to take up too much page time.

Unfortunately a dnf.

The start to a new series by Bennett that, quite frankly, I think I enjoyed a little more than her last one already! Artemis and Dominic have chemistry from their first interaction, and it's always nice to read about a heroine with a somewhat more non-traditional job — even in the realm of the Regency, she pens somewhat scandalous Gothic novels under an alias — as well as a hero with an older teenager from a previous marriage rather than a younger child, which made for some fun dynamics. There were times it felt like some references were made too frequently (a LOT of mentions to Austen's works, and Artemis has a particularly inventive way of swearing that shows up). I didn't mind the book's "dark moment" (if you can even call it that) being one of one-sided misunderstanding, if only because Dominic's reaction to Artemis' secret was such a non-issue that once it was cleared up they were only given page space to be happy. Curious as to whether Gascoyne will show up again in a future book somewhere, though!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the beginning to a new series by Ms. Bennett, The Byronic Book Club, and I think it is off to a great start. Artemis is a school teacher by day and moonlights as a gothic romance writer by night. Dominic is a widowed duke, and despite his charismatic and charming nature, he is lonely and misunderstood due to the ugly rumors surrounding his late wife's death. Artemis has no intention of marrying, but in order for her younger sister to have a proper season, her Aunt will sponsor her season only if Artemis has a season, so she heads to London. She has no intention of finding a husband, but when her and Dominic meet, the sparks fly. They come to an agreement that benefits them both. But it doesn't take long for both to lose their heart.
I enjoyed watching the relationship between them develop and grow.
An engaging and entertaining story that I really enjoyed.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Such a good, spicy, and suspenseful read. The characters are very likable and the story flows quickly. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good spicy regency romance.

I would love if this story continued into a duology.

too cheesy for my taste and I unfortunately had to DNF this book and I wish I did not.... I didn't feel the chemistry between the two characters and I wish there was....

Up All Night With The Duke(A Little late due to illness)

I enjoyed this one. It's a little predictable but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment. There's lot's of rumors and dreams. Artemis, A teacher for a woman's school and secret author takes on "The Season." The Duke's reputation tainted by lies surrounding his deceased wife. As soon as the two meet, sparks fly. They are both likeable and relatable characters. I feel anyone reading it would be very entertained

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me. I got about half way through this one and gave up. I really didn't like the characters. They were flat and uninteresting. I felt zero chemistry between the couple. It just came across as cheesy and I was just not interested in seeing where they ended up.

This was new author for me & I absolutely LOVED this book! It’s my favorite read of 2022! I seriously couldn’t get enough! Artemis and Dominic are so amazingly perfect together and apart! Artemis is our book loving, blue stocking heroine who wants to open an all girl college. She comes back to town for the season as her friend has requested her presence. Dominic is a widow single dad having a hard time with his teen daughter. He decides it’s time for a wife so he has help. Dominic also has a past that’s haunting him. Artemis and Dominic have a rainy meet cute and see each other next at a ball where they dance. Soon these two are in a deal with a fake engagement! Artemis helps with Dominic’s daughter. She also writes gothic novels! I loved that these two were mature! Really though this book had everything I wanted in it! Great characters, drama, family, and steam! I can’t wait for book 2!

I loved this synopsis and that cover so much and I was eager to get into this story.

I love love loved Artemis and Dominic. She’s smart and headstrong and sassy. He’s a little withdrawn, but charming and instantly smitten. Together they have chemistry and banter for days. I wasn’t a fan of Artemis’s aunt and sister, but they did redeem themselves a bit by the end.

Plot wise, it was good. The angst is minimal and I loved how the relationship organically moved from attraction to friends to more. I always love when the H listens and hears what the h is saying and Dominic was top notch.

Overall, this was a fun read with characters that had me root for them right from the start. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**

Up All Night with a Good Duke by Amy Rose Bennett is about Artemis Jones and the Duke of Dartmoor, Dominic Winters. Artemis is a school teacher and she writes gothic novels. Dominic Winters is looking for wife and a mother for his daughter but he is having hard time because all of society thinks he killed his wife. The sparks were flying between Artemis and Dominic when they meet. The story is pretty fast paced but all in all it had great flow I enjoyed reading how Artemis and Dominic came together. The story kept me engaged and I never have read any of Ms. Bennett's books but I discovered a new favorite author. I'm glad this is a series and I cannot wait for the next book. Thank you Netgalley and Casablanca Publishing for the ARC.

Artemis Jones-thought she would never married cause she was too old she thought to find a love and she never wanted to marry. Her first season had turned her off from the marriage market. She was happy to write books under and another name and dream of opening a school or so she thought. Dominic Winters need to find some one to help him with his 15 year old daughter and get an heir. Which was hard to find because of his first wife's family saying he killed his first wife. I loved this book it was so good.

I thoroughly enjoyed this lively book, with a good storyline and characterisations.
The book is clearly rather more raunchy than those of Miss Lydia Lovelace's, which adds to the veracity of how women really behaved rather than being unplucked lilies of the field. As the title implies of course.
Well written, good grammar and proof reading, and a story style that keeps you reading.

This is the story of Artemis, a finishing school teacher / secret gothic romance novelist and Dominic, a widowed duke in need of help managing his daughter.

I loved the characters in this book, they were real and you could relate to them (yes, even to Dominic). You find yourself rooting for Artemis while at the same time understanding Dominic's challenges with his daughter and his dukely duties.

There was steam in the book, but it felt short compared to other novels I've read and enjoyed. I did find it refreshing that the heroine in this book was not a virgin and liked sex. I understand during the period it was not done to be an unmarried virgin, but given the setting here it worked well in my opinion.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
