I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book from the very first page. It was wonderful and the I really loved all the characters.

There’s no one way to write a great romance. In fact, one could argue good romance novels are less about the quality of the writing — though that should not be taken as a knock against the uber-talented writers that make up the genre — and more about the quality of the characters. Romance is, after all, about feelings. If we’re invested in what the characters are going through, if we care about where they’re going, then that’s 3/4 of the battle right there.

Up All Night with a Good Duke, which to start with, is a hell of a title, is the kind of book that works from the start because the characters work. They especially work together, which is precisely what you want in a romance novel. But they work pretty well separately too, and there’s always a undercurrent of “this could truly be special” in every one of their interactions that keeps pushing you forward, one more page, and then another.

But Up All Night with a Good Duke is, unequivocally, Artemis’ story, and that decision serves the book well. Great romances manage to make you care about both the hero and the heroine, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have to choose which one to focus on, which one the audience should connect to first. In fact, the books that don’t choose sometimes ends up biting way more than they can chew.

That is very much not the case here, because Artemis Jones absolutely shines, and because she does, it’s easier to understand the Duke of Dartmoor as he begins to fall in love with her. In turn, her feelings about him make us warm to him in a way that might have been hard if the book had chosen to focus on him, and him alone.

Because Artemis isn’t perfect, far from it. She’s petty and impulsive, and sometimes she’s a mess, but that’s okay, so are we. Regency heroines are sometimes hard to relate to, but Artemis always feels like she could be one of us — and not just because she’s secretly the kind of author we want to read.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s a lot more going on in the book than romance — sometimes borderline too much, but despite that, the book never crosses the line into too complicated. Instead Bennett manages to deliver a fun, entertaining romance that stands on its own and yet sets the stage for a series we really want to keep reading, if not because the secondary characters blew us away, at least because the author kept us entertained enough we wouldn’t mind another go at it.

Whatever it is you want in your romance, Up All Night with a Good Duke will probably deliver, and it will do so in a way that, when you finally close the book, you will feel like you’ve invested your time wisely. A bit of escapism, an enchanting heroine, a dashing hero and the possibility of more …what else could we ask for?

Up All Night with a Good Duke by Amy Rose Bennett is available now wherever books are sold.

I don't remember if it's my first book by this author but it feel like the story was quick to read, engaging from the start with character that keep it interesting, definitely a must for Historical Romance fans.

I liked this book. The characters were interesting and I felt the chemistry between Artemis and Dominic. However, the book felt entirely to long and by the end I was just waiting for it to end.

I am a big fan of this author and while the story was good, it wasn't my favorite. The romance aspect worked, but there were too many villains or semi-villains (if there is such a thing) which I found to be more of a distraction to the plot rather than an enhancement.

It won't keep me from reading more from Bennett though, this was only a slight miss for me.

I enjoyed this historical romance story. This is my first book by this author which I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. This is a well written story where the characters pull you into the story from the start. I enjoyed how they brought the story to life. This is an engaging story that is not only fast paced but hard to put down as well. The characters are connectable and I had no problem picturing myself in their world. A story where rumors are flowing and romance is what is needed. This is a great story that I truly enjoyed. I highly recommend this book.

I love it when the historical romance immediately establishes our lead as a bold, anti-patriarchy women. Well, at least pro Sense and Sensibility!
Artemis and Dominic have some fun back and forth. I like that Artemis doesn’t hide where she stands on women’s abilities. I quite liked the writing style of Amy Rose Bennett as well, with sharp characters delivering clever punches.

A great love story! With a plot that adds to the romance and doesn't detract from it. Great view on the family too.

Artemis is a (very early in the story) former finishing school teacher and secret author of gothic romance novels. Her dream is to open a ladies college. She believes women should be educated the same as men, not marry if they don't want to, and she's perfectly willing to take a lover if she finds someone she's interested in. Oh yes, she has very creative curses! At 29, she's a little older than the typical heroine. Dominic, 38, brings some gothic elements to the story. Known as the Dastardly Duke, he's rumored to have killed his mad wife and left her body in a bog. This makes for a lonely life for his rebellious, cranky, emotional, 15-year-old daughter. And those scandalous books she's reading by Lydia Lovelace aren't helping her attitude any. Dominic and Artemis eventually decide on an engagement of convenience. Artemis will help discover who the bounder is turning his daughter's head, and Dominic will fund her ladies college. A past villain reappears to cause trouble, family are a nuisance, and Scotland Yard even has reason to make an appearance. I was lucky enough to both read and also listen to the audio book version. Sasha Higgins brings the characters to life, funny curses and all. She voices the male characters well which if not done right sometimes brings me out of the story.

Ahh be still my heart! A 30 year old bluestocking spinster being seduced by a dastardly Duke who also happens to be a widowed father of a 15 year old young lady. This is so tropetastic! But ahem I think she was initiating the seducing and why not? Mary Wollestonecraft would be proud!

Dominic was the perfect misunderstood villain with a cloud of horrible gossip shrouding his family name and consequently his teenage daughter from any social connections. Ugh Dad! But he was so handsome and charming and um a Duke.

Artemis (Love that name!) the gorgeous red haired spinster bluestocking that caught his eye. Ugh she fell for a lothario during her season when she was 19 and was compromised and gave up on love going to work at a girls school. But after a few chance encounters these two had some slow burn steam. 🔥 She was also a romance author with a pseudonym but they called them horrid novels 😂😂 ppl can be so boring. Also, three words - bethrothal of convenience.

Can we make an app or a newsletter for all the guys that cheat, lie, take advantage and are money grabbers? Coincidentally the one in this books name was Guy.

Thank you sourcebookscasa and netgalley for the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.

This book is so much fun! It is the first book in the Byronic Book Club series, and I will be looking out for any further works by Amy Rose Bennett.

Our heroine, Artemis Jones, is unique in the historical romance world. She is a strong, loyal, intelligent, independent woman with no inclination to marry. Artemis is drawn to the London season and the marriage mart when she leaves the school she is teaching at to assist a friend and her sister. However, this trip to London has given Artemis a chance to seek out benefactors to open her own finishing school.

Our hero, Dominic Winters, Duke of Dartmoor, needs a wife, but rumors that he murdered his first wife make things difficult. Dominic enlists Artemis’s help in guiding his teen daughter but soon realizes that Miss. Jones is more than just a spinster teacher. Adventure and scandal ensue as our couple navigates their feelings for one another.

Up All Night with a Good Duke by Amy Rose Bennett is the first book of the Byronic Book Club. Artemis Jones is a finishing school teacher and secretly a Gothic romance novelist. She dreams of opening her own academic ladies’ college where women are free to learn everything a man is allowed to learn. When a friend from her book club asks her for help during her London Season, she leaves her post at the school immediately with the hopes that she can find a wealthy patron or patroness for her school. Artemis’ aunt is putting pressure on her to marry, but Artemis is reluctant to do so after being wronged during her debut years ago. Dominic Winters, the Duke of Dartmoor, is widowed and finally looking for a new wife to provide him with an heir. He also needs his wife to help manage his fifteen-year-old daughter Celeste. Society knows Dominic as “The Dastardly Duke”. Rumors have spread that he is responsible for the death of his wife. This leaves his choice of bride very limited. When Dominic and Artemis cross paths, sparks fly and deals are made.

This book was so much fun. I loved Artemis and Dominic. I loved the relationship between Artemis and Celeste. I am looking forward to the next book in this smart and romantic series!

Dominick & Artemis made a great couple but at the same time I am always bored by the old "I've got a secret" troupe and this one went on for much too long. She is a bit of a writer of feminine romance and adventure which at this time in history was considered very "common" to say the least but hers is better than most it would seem. She does put all that knowledge to use and there is the old cad who seduced her and then left her so we have a villain but there are a few things that teased me that were never answered which is why I gave it 4 stars, the sex was a wee bit overdone also but put everything together and it was an enjoyable story and so 4 Stars it is.

This was an absolute delight of a book, and I am thrilled to have discovered Amy Rose Bennett.

Artemis Jones is a fantastic female protagonist - she knows her mind, and will do whatever she needs to in order to secure her dream of opening up a Women's College. Dominic Winters is a widowed Duke with a teenage daughter who thinks he's over-bearing. Together they are a force to be reckoned with, and the Ton will never be the same - all in the best ways.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a strong heroine, a hero who is not afraid to admit when he's wrong, and some delicious banter.

This book was good! A longer review will be coming on the blog sometime soon. Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me the chance to read and review.

This book is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. I loved Artemis and Dominic's story! Artemis is determine to avoid her aunt trying to marry her off and with the help of her friends Lucy and Jane plans her disgrace. Only the Duke of Dartmoor turned the tables on her and her plans.

This book is action-packed from page one and I couldn't put the book down. Artemis is hilarious in the lengths she will go to remain unmarried. Dominic is only accepted in Society due to being a duke as there were questions surrounding the disappearance of his wife years ago.

This book is suspenseful and smoking hot. This is the first time reading anything by Amy Rose Bennett and it definitely won't be the last!

a nice, easy historical read!

I thought the characters were charming, and enjoyed the banter between the two main characters. Yet, I can't necessarily say that this was my favorite historical fiction book, and thought that there could be more chemistry between the two characters.

I have quite enjoyed this book. The writing was engaging and the characters likable. Most importantly the story has quite a nice built up.

"As luck or misfortune would have it, it also appears that whenever we meet, I’m dripping wet...."

Woo wee…talk about your double entendre. Drip, drip baby...drip drip.

Ever read a book that leaves you saying hmmm when you’re done? That’s me right now after reading Up All Night with a Good Duke. Why? Because I have absolutely no idea how to rate this book. There are SOOOO many things to like about this book. It’s fun. It has “heart”. It’s steamy. It even has two pretty good MCs…but something is missing for me…and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad book at all, I just wasn’t “satisfied” at the end which leaves me lost on how to rate it.

I really liked the two main characters, they had wonderful chemistry…and their banter was playful, witty and seductively flirtatious. The story was engaging enough and held my attention. But when it was all said and done, I was still confused as to how I felt. I know…you’re asking me what the hell does that mean? It means I just don’t know what to do here, so you’ll need to read it for yourselves. I place it somewhere between three and four stars.

For example, with all the good and wonderful stuff I listed above, there were things that made me sad. The secondary characters being one of them. Did we really need to have this many subplots? To ME…it made the story feel...disjointed. And truthfully, most of these secondary characters (except for the daughter) where just plain dislikable. But that in itself is a testament to the writer’s skill…if she's got me hating them, right?

So anyway...Artemis Jones is strong-willed and an independent bluestocking. She’s an educator and the author of salacious gothic novels with absolutely no desire to wed. After having her heart broken in her first season, her heart’s desire is to establish an all-female college that would educate young women on more than good comportment and how to be good wives. The problem however is how to fund such a venture. When the opportunity to return to London and find a backer presents itself, she quickly accepts.

Dominic Winters, Duke of Dartmoor needs to marry. Not just anyone though, he needs to marry a woman strong enough to help him rear his teenage daughter. Known as the Dastardly Duke for having supposedly murdered his previous wife, finding his bride will prove difficult. No one wants to marry a murderer!

When fate continues to put Artemis and him together, Dominic soon realizes that Artemis could be the woman that both he and his daughter need…and Artemis realizes that sometimes things work out for the best, even if they don’t go according to plan.

Look…Amy Rose Bennett is an incredibly talented writer and I’ve enjoyed reading some of her previous work That being said…Try it for yourself…I mean…you can’t go wrong with a book that has lines talking about “Lucifer’s Love Truncheon”.
