Steam Level HOT!

Artemis Jones a true bluestocking, writes Gothic romance novels and has a dream about starting a girls finishing college, having given up her position in a girl’s finishing school to go to London to be with her best friend for the season first encountered the Duke of Dartmoor when she arrived and for her sparks seemed to fly when she first met him.

Dominic was having a hard time bringing up his 15 year old daughter. He knew he needed to marry again to secure the line of succession and it would probably help and guide his daughter Celeste but as he was known as the Dastardly Duke of Dartmoor, most women would avoid him so he would need to get his sisters help in finding someone.

Upton meeting Artemis again he instantly felt the attraction between them and he knew that Artemis felt it too. Some passionate kisses later, the delectable Miss Jones propositions him into ruining her and what can a man who’s mad for a lady do but say yes! Finding themselves engaged to be married and starting a steamy passionate love affair, Artemis does wonder if the Duke has started to have feelings for her which is a worry because he’s not aware that she writes a certain type of novel, he wouldn’t approve because he had already banned his daughter from reading.

Dominic had fallen madly in love with Artemis and he knew she’d had a bad love affair in the past and after Dominic was hurt, she realised she had fallen in love with him, but could she tell him her biggest secret and would he accept her once he knew!

A wonderful steamy, erotic love story with lots of sex between two people, both having a past full of hurt and closing their hearts but learning with love they could overcome it to find their passionate HEA. I really enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend reading it.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Up All Night with a Good Duke was my first experience reading a book by Amy Rose Bennett and I was delighted. Artemis Jones is a bluestocking who teaches at a finishing school and moonlights as a gothic novelist. Artemis's aunt tells her that she won't allow her younger sister to get married until Artemis is engaged. Artemis leaves the finishing school to have a season and try to steer men toward her sister. Artemis ultimately finds herself taken with the Dastardly Duke Dominic and hatches a plan to be compromised. In a twist, Dominic proposes instead. Artemis agrees to be fake engaged and Dominic will fully fund her women's college. Dom and Artemis find it hard to separate what is fake and what is becoming real in this engagement.

I LOVED Artemis! She was strong willed and smart. I loved that she cursed in ridiculous phrases. She made no excuses for how she wanted her life to turn out. Her relationship with Celeste was sweet and genuine. Dominic was taken almost immediately with Artemis. He wanted to give her space to figure out her feelings and didn't pressure her. I'm really happy the "secret" that needed to come out didn't droll on and on. Dominic immediately believed Artemis and took her side.

I'm looking forward to the next books in the series!

Tropes included: fake engagement, compromised, bluestocking heroine, tortured hero, single father, widower, spinster

Thank you to NetGalley, Amy Rose Bennett, and Sourcebooks Casablanca

It was a DNF for me at 60% as I just couldn’t get into the story. I would only recommend this to people who love very modern historicals with very very modern snd strong heroines.

Overall it was just not a believable plot

I thoroughly enjoyed the romance between the characters, and how fleshed out and realistic the relationship between the Duke and his daughter was--pretty sure I had the same dynamic when I was that age. I also think the heroine's motivations were quite well-portrayed and her writing career could have brought forth a miscommunication in a way that would have thrown the relationship off-balance...but instead, I was happily surprised by how it played a role in the romance and didn't involve the heroine playing down her ambitions just for the Duke.

I would happily recommend.

I really enjoyed this! I loved Artemis. She was hiding the fact that she is a gothic romance author and had dreams of opening a college for women. Dominic was such a good guy with a unwarranted bad reputation. And putting them together was wonderful and they brought out the best in each other

I absolutely loved it!
A strong female character, that knows what she wants, doesn't care what others think, and makes her dreams happen? That is Artemis Jones for you! That heroine was incredible, it's been a long time since I've read about a strong and independent heroine in Historical Romance. Dominic was great too. He was a little lonely and sad, but with Artemis at his side, he was able to blossom once again. Loved it and loved the author's style of writing - it was flawless and consistent. The plot was split into two: her life and her secret life. But together, it went well.

I think this is a great start to a new romance series. I thought the writing and witty banter between Artemis and Dominic was much better than other novels I've read and felt more realistic. The plot was a bit predictable at times but I read the book in one night and did not want to take a break. I also appreciated that the novel featured a heroine who was an author and featured gothic novels throughout the story.

This is the first book I have read by Amy Rose Bennett and the start of a brand new series. This was an entertaining historical romance that I finished in no time at all. Artemis is a bluestocking heroine who teaches at a finishing school by day and writes Gothic romance novels by night. Her dream is to open her own women's college where women can earn an education on par with men, a very forward thinking concept for her time. Dominic the hero of the story is a widower and a duke with an unsavoury reputation due to his late wife's death. These two characters had instant chemistry but Artemis fought her feelings for Dominic because she wanted a different future and couldn't see how things could work out of the two of them. I really like that Dominic was patient and understanding and tried to slowly win Artemis over to the idea of making their relationship a real one.
I'm not usually a fan of the faux relationship trope but this book worked for me, it was a well written entertaining read.
Thanks to Sourcebooks and Netgalley for the arc.

This has to be the most satisfying book I have read in a long time. Ms Bennett is a new author for me and I was enthralled from the first! The feisty heroine, Artemis, is a joy to behold! I loved how she refuses to be cowed by anyone and does life her way. Her past colors her opinions and to see her grow in is so satisfying. I was ecstatic to see the villain gets his and hers!, The Duke has issues of his own and watching him return to life is a lesson in the grieving process. Oh so wonderful to read and enjoyed it immensely! I will be reading more from Ms Bennett!

Artemis Jones is a finishing school teacher who wants nothing more than to open a women's college. When Artemis is called by her friend to London and help with her first season, Artemis agrees also because of the prospect of finding a sponsor for her dream. Enter Dominic Winters, the widowed Duke of Dartmoor and the most ineligible bachelor of this season. He is known as the "The Dastardly Duke." because of rumors that he murdered his wife.

I loved Dominic and Artemis as individual characters. Dominic just wants his daughter to be happy and he can't do that because of the rumors surrounding him. He also needs a wife and an heir to carry on the dukedom but again because of the rumors, he's unlucky on that front as well. Artemis is fine with being a 'spinster' but she desperately wants to open a women's college. Knowledge is power and by depriving women of that, Artemis knows this firsthand, can have devastating consequences for them. Besides the protagonists, I also loved the scenes between Artemis and Dominic's daughter.

This had a really interesting premise but I was bored. I didn't feel the chemistry between Artemis and Dominic. There were so many things missing and it had one of my favorite tropes too but the story didn't utilize it as well. The hurdles they both had to get over seemed inconsequential in the end and all the buildup to the big reveal, in the end, was anticlimactic as well.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this book as the romance felt pretty bland and unconvincing to me. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the eARC!

UNCONVINCING ROMANCE

I was not swept away. I was hardly even entertained. Sadly, this was a let down for me - one, I will have probably forgotten before this review is written.

👎 What I Disliked 👎

Predictable: There were a few contrived twists to this story that didn't manage to take me by surprise. While they were obviously meant to take astonish you, they just fell flat. I saw them all coming a mile away.

Characters: Our two heroes, Artemis and Dominic, did little to engage me either. They didn't speak to me. They didn't make me invested in them. I couldn't connect with them or feel them as characters.

Romance: Perhaps because the characters fell flat, the supposed romance went the same way. I simply could not see how Artemis and Dominic could fall for one another. I didn't get the attraction. It didn't sparkle or leap off the page in any way. Not even a flicker or an ember could I feel.

Amy Rose Bennett exceeded my wildest expectations with Artemis and Dominic story. The verbal sparring between the Artemis and Dominic is top-notch, but these two raised it to an art form. I loved how protective Dominic was of Artemis once he learned one of her secrets. I appreciated that he never used her secret against her or tried to shame her for it. I like the interaction between family and friends. This book has a bit of it all, friends-lovers, family dynamics and a dastardly villain. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. The action sequences are amazing. The book’s ending scenes touched my heart. I would recommend this book and look forward to other books from this author.

**I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

** spoiler alert ** Artemis is an ex finishing school teacher who returns to London society to help one of her best friends during the season, and runs into Dominic, a man known as the "dastardly Duke" in a bookstore, and again at a ball.

The chemistry between the two leads was so believable, and Dominic was such a breath of fresh air as a male lead. He is gentlemanly and kind and not so possessive that I roll my eyes. Their spicy scenes were perfect, not too overdone and well spread out through their story, and their interactions after were always heartwarming and sweet.

I absolutely love the main conflict/plot in this story. So many romances have conflict that is mostly caused by miscommunication or personal issues to work through. While there were obviously personal issues for both parties to work through, the biggest thing getting in the way of their relationship was something concrete i.e. Artemis' plans for a women's university and her hidden Persona as a writer. And seeing her get full support from Dominic without any judgement was so refreshing. No toxic masculinity here!

Usually I don't enjoy it in romances when there is a lot of focus on the various side plots, but they were all really well established here, and were all equally compelling. The Gothic romance author side plots, Artemis' sister and her friends, all of it was there the perfect amount not to distract too much from the main show. Plus Dominic and his daughter were so sweet.

The premise was good. A finishing school teacher wants to open a college for women but needs funding. A bit confusing to me was how she goes about flirting with scandal and ruination to aid her in her objective. She exhibits behavior unbecoming to a woman of the time period who wants to run a respectable school. The duke, Dominic, did some foolish things also. It all added up to a story that just was too unbelievable.

Sadly, this one just didn't do it for me. I've read another series by this author and enjoyed the characters, but this one felt a little flat on details. The sex felt like the main point instead of the characters and plot.

I'm not a big fan of the "let's immediately start a calculated affair" trope. The buildup to a relationship is missing and I don't feel invested in the characters. I like to see my characters get to know each other a little and make a connection before falling into bed.

I liked the heroine but the rest of the characters seems shallow. The jealous rival for no reason just to create a plot point? The worried father is part of the setup but then just.... isn't worried any more? The resolutions left a lot to be desired.

The hero's "Dastardly" title/reputation feels far-fetched and out of place. really, the whole ton shuns a wealthy, eligible noble simple because of one man's crazy rantings? Seemed more like a convenient excuse to isolate the storyline to two households and not have to flesh out a whole setting for the book.

The style and writing are good, it's just this particular story/character set didn't work for me. I did love the idea of the heroine's secret career, which again, didn't really have a believable resolution. He's suddenly okay with it? No tension? The buildup of the Great Secret is overkill without a sufficient reveal.

Up All Night with a Good Duke is a very well-plotted historical romance. I enjoyed the interactions of the main characters Artemis and Dominic. Really did enjoy their romance.
