BEING PATRICK SWAYZE Essential Teachings from the Master of the Mullet by Neil E. Fischer
This is a well written tribute to Patrick Swayze. It is short, sweet & fun. It does a great job of going through his movies. He was one of a very select group of the triple threats, with the singing, acting and dancing. He was such a versatile person. Most of the movies mentioned within I knew, but there were some that were a surprise to me. This is 5 stars.

A fun look at the life and legacy of Patrick Swayze, but feels like more of a gift book than a true biography.

Heartwarming, but mostly silly. Patrick Swayze acted in a lot of fun movies, but constructing a Dao from his career is a bit much. the book is firmly tongue in cheek, and it did remind me that every Swayze movie I've seen I've enjoyed and there are some I need to see again soon!

This is a hoot! The author's gushing admiration for Patrick Swayze comes through in such an endearing way, and Swayze is a worthy person to look up to and emulate. This is wonderfully creative and endlessly fun. The pictures, quizzes, and activities make this so engaging and enjoyable to read. This would be a great gift for any pop-culture aficionado or Swayze stan in your life!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

A book perfect for '80s movie fans. Fischer clearly knows what moves an audience to enjoy Patrick Swayze, down to the spiritual approach to create a more centered character based on the actor's own feelings. This includes power moves for an actor to fill the perfect role (i.e. Whoopi Goldberg in "Ghost").

There are plenty of games, including a connect-the-dots picture that brought my 80s childhood to life, as well as a match the mullet to film. Perfect for a friend gathering. (Shhh, ignore modern global crises for a moment. It'd be fine over a video call.

I'd rec this book to trivia fans, especially game nights. Or fans of pop YouTube channels like Allison Pregler. Very Movie Nights vibe with design.

Blockbusters
- The clear love and appreciation of Swayze's skill within his craft. Not just acting but all areas, including the intersection of dance and spirituality. It's easy to see how much the writer enjoys Swayze's varied career. Throughout the book, Fischer peppers in a lot of great family back story on how the actor grew up. Key to a ballet dancer from Houston. Important for anyone who wants to be like Swayze.

Bombs
- More design, less content. At 146 pages, I feel like there should have been more mentioned about trivia on movies within the 5 sections. It feels that only really involved fans will understand the references, either of Swayze or Fischer, and that leaves a larger portion of the audience out. After all, nostalgia means something different for different people.

Thanks to Chronicle Books, NetGalley, and Fischer for an ARC in exchange for a review.

Who doesn't love a little Patrick Swayze? The cover art was the thing that hooked me; after all, my best high school friend and I went to see Dirty Dancing five times. This was a feat in a small town, but we made it to three different theaters in three towns during October and possibly November that year.

Patrick Swayze had that little certain something, and this little book will give you the warm fuzzies. It is a graphic tribute by an author who loves Swayze and has named the feeling I felt "Feng Swayze."

A couple of spots felt like a reach - pairings for movies, for instance - but a fun title. It would make a great gift for the Patrick Swayze fan whether male - "Road House!" - or female - "Nobody puts Baby in a corner."

(I will be doing a short review for a local lifestyle magazine.)

Entertaining with vibrant visuals, taking the reader for a walk down memory lane.

With a twist of fun on each page, “ Being Patrick Swayze, Essential Teachings from the Master of the Mullet “ is a wonderfully humorous, illustrated guide to the 80s & 90s pop culture and an overall wonderful tribute to Patrick Swayze.

A sincere thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for providing me a copy of “Being Patrick Swayze, Essential Teachings from the Master of the Mullet” in exchange for an honest review. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to read this story and leave my review voluntarily.

A super-quick read. Definitely a gift book—struggling to think when someone might buy this for themselves? There’s a small amount of trivia, but most of the book is composed of games—“Which mullet belongs to which Swayze character?” etc. Personally, I wasn’t that interested in playing the games—YMMV. Presumably due to rights issues, there aren’t any stills from his films. The art is fine, but a bit slick. Ultimately, I think this book was just a mismatch for me. I’m a HUGE Swayze fan. I was expecting more quotes from Patrick (not just from his characters), and a little bit of a heftier read.

You definitely don't want to put this book in the corner. I you are familiar with any of Swayze's work, that quote makes total sense. As any 'millennial' kid, I was familiar with Swayze's top movies. This book however showed to me how much I did not know about his work, which in turn showed how important his work was to the zeitgeist of pop culture and cinema. Each movie was very indicative of the time. If you were going to a Patrick Swayze trivia night; you would definitely want to read this book beforehand.

Neal E. Fischer presented the material in a fun way. Each chapter's theme, was fun and apropos to a part of his life. This was a fun, quick read.

Delightfully retro, informative, and silly—all of the whole reverent and educational. You don't have to be a big fan to enjoy this thoroughly.

An adult activity book honoring one of the true greats.

Many thanks to NetGalley for the advance read.

This was a fun book and I enjoyed the layout and think, overall, it works very effectively. I didn't fully get into it perhaps as much I might have hoped but, overall, I think it is well done and a strong tribute to a great actor.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book.

I am a big Patrick Swayze fan and have been for as long as I can remember. When I saw this book, I thought I should request and check it out.

This book was a lot of fun. There are several pages with games on them as well. The illustrations were just cute, and the entire book was definitely a love letter to Patrick and his career.. I was sad when I finished the book, but this is definitely one that I will but a copy of and have around to read through from time to time.

I loved the illustrations, games and trivia. I have been a fan of Patrick Swayze since watching the movie The Outsiders. This book did not disappoint. It was a great tribute to an amazing actor and man.

Thank you for the EArc. I mean swoon… Patrick Swayze, my first adult male crush. Oh how I longed to be Baby just to get to dance with that man. Anyone who’s watched any of his movies can’t help but to have fallen in love and that’s just what this book is about, loving Swayze. Sure there are fun little games iia but you can tell the author out his heart into this and truly admired this man’s life.

Any Swayze fan will enjoy this title. However, the preview copy was hard to read at times due to the poor layout. This has not happened in a long time and is the first with a kindle copy. It normally happens when a title has to be read on Bluefire

What a tribute to Patrick Swayze! This book, Being Patrick Swayze, literally had it all! It had fun trivia, games, recipes, moves, information and pays tribute to this brilliantly talented man in the most wonderful and most honorable way.

"Live each and every day like it's your last. Why? Because that's the Swayze way."

The illustrations were fun, beautiful, and take you on a stroll to every role he's ever played.

Any fan of Patrick will love and enjoy this book. It can be shared for ages and keep his legacy and memory alive. This book would make an excellent gift!
