Yes, yes, yes. I'm a new Katee Robert fan, and this series is *chef's kiss* perfection. Love these narrators together.

Katee Robert does it again! "Electric Idol" tells the story of Psyche and Eros in a way that closely resembles "Neon Gods." During the first couple chapters, I kept listening and thinking that even the voice actors/narrators were the same. I had to go back and check to confirm. With the backdrop of Olympus and the greek gods and goddesses, this novel is another intriguing read that romance lovers will enjoy. For me, the mythology is the main attraction. The characters are well explored and developed in a way that make the reader truly come to care about them. In this one, I did feel a little less strongly about the connection between the two main characters though. I kept comparing them to the characters in Neon Gods. I just didn't feel like this love story was as believable. However, I absolutely loved the modernizing of the plot. I loved that Psyche was plus size, loved the discussion point of her wardrobe and lack of availability and I enjoyed the fact that it showed her "behind the scenes" as an influencer. Overall, I enjoyed this one... but I think Neon Gods was a little bit better. With that being said, I would gladly pick up anything else that this author writes. It left me wondering, when are we going to finally get a book with Hermes as the main character? That's the next book we need! She always steals the show, it is about time we get a full novel on her story.

I really enjoyed this book and will definitely keep reading in the series. Katee Robert does a good job balancing plot with the romance, which I really appreciate. And she doesn’t include a third act breakup (thankfully). I loved Psyche and Eros as characters and although sometimes their inner monologues got repetitive (i.e. nearly the same thoughts and sentences are used over and over), I still had fun.

Another one where Katee Robert knocked it out of the park! Man, this series made me go back and pick up a lot of her backlist lol I’m about half way through the Wicked Villains series too, so seeing that this is also somehow connected?! So glad I waited to read this. Anywho, yeah as you can see, I adored this lol

This time the re-telling was Pschye and Eros. Psyche knew she’d have to answer to Aphrodite, but she never expected her to be so cruel that she makes him be the thing that kills her. And Eros has no idea that when he tries to kill her he can’t bring himself to do it. He’s drawn to her with no idea why. So he does the only thing he can think to do. Keep her safe. Aphrodite isn’t too happy with this decision and neither is Psyche. But as they try to thwart Aphrodite, they begin to see each other in a completely different light.

I wasn’t as familiar with their story as I was with Hades and Persephone, so I did what any librarian would do… I researched it. (Well I Googled it but still) I was able to fill in the parts that I was missing before I read it. And it was cool again to find the parts of this book that came from the original story.

The romance was so cute. I LOVED watching them go from hating each other to falling for each other. And I also loved that it wasn’t your typical enemies to lovers romance. He was about to kill her and they still made it work! The pacing of their relationship did seem to be a little fast tho. And I thought it was weird that the way he was hopping from bed to bed in the previous book and the other one he definitely wasn’t like that in this book. He did mention that he had been with a lot of people, but it was like he was a different person. Maybe he was just really trying to save her life, Idk. But it was just weird to me.

Another thing I liked about this was the fact that it had more plot this time lol In other words, there was less heat, but there is still some HEAT. Don’t get it twisted, the way the scenes were, was still all of Katee Robert’s words. The only thing that’s less is the amount of scenes lol And it wasn’t distasteful. (Despite the reviews that are saying it is.) If you look at some of the quotes that are floating around, he worshipped her. Like while everyone was fat shaming her and she had bodily issues against herself, he worshipped her and I loved that. And I think that deserved to be talked about.

The world-building still wasn’t there in this one either tho. BUT, there was a map in it! (I also had an e-ARC so I was able to see it!) So that was pretty cool to see where everything was divided and whose territory was where. I even consulted the map a couple times while reading to get a clear picture of both this series and her other.

And lastly, I LOVED that Poseidon was included in this one. (Even if he was entirely unhelpful lolol) I actually just mentioned something about a Poseidon romance or re-telling or something on my blog. I really hope she picks up something that has him in sometime. Especially since there’s going to be more books in the series. But I heard that #4 is with Apollo, so we’ll see!

Since I got the audio, I thought it worth it to talk about the narrator. I liked the male narrator so much more as Eros than I did as Hades. I didn’t find myself falling asleep at all with this one. I didn’t even realize it was the same person to be honest. I don’t know what it was, but this was just better. He vibed a lot more as Eros in my opinion.

This book is my favorite of the series. I really enjoyed reading this book. From the steam to the romance to the small bit of action at the end. It’s definitely not part of the sophomore slump of a series. This one lived up to the one before it and made it hard to wait for the next one to come out. (I’ve already requested Wicked Beauty from Edelweiss smh lol)

Finally managed to read Neon Gods and got to dive into Electric Idol and although I did enjoy this one, especially the narration, it wasn’t as great as Neon Gods. Buuut, it was maybe hotter than Neon Gods, so that’s a plus, it helped even it out a little bit and really was enjoyable the whole read!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the audiobook. I voluntarily listened and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The audiobook was good and the narrators did a good job! Marriage of convenience with rival families. Yes!

I didn't know what to expect when I started this audiobook because I have a mix bag of good and bad reviews from Katee Robert's other works. However, I'm happy that Electric Idol was a good one! I literally fell for Eros Ambrosia, a damaged hero who is falling for the heroine first and being soft and protective for her. Eros is supposed to kill Psyche but ended up marrying her. Electric Idol is not just a romance book, it contains a lot of political manoeuvring between the Thirteen and scheming/revenges. Also, Psyche is a plus-sized heroine who is also a social media influence in Olympus who is confident with her body image which we need more in books!

If you read Neon Gods, you’ll remember that Persephone’s choice to escape to the Underworld and marry Hades turned Olympus upside down. The death of the former Zeus and the reemergence of Hades created a new order among the city’s elite, leaving members of the Thirteen scheming for more power. At the center of a high-stakes game of politics and deceit are Eros, son of Aphrodite, and Psyche, daughter of Demeter, who become unwilling chess pieces in the notorious feud between their mothers. From their first interaction, there’s an undeniable draw between them - a forbidden spark of attraction that leaves a lasting impression. So when Aphrodite enlists her son to exact revenge on Demeter’s daughter, Eros proposes a marriage of convenience to Psyche, for both of their benefits.

Navigating through a complex network of dangerous foes and allies that rule Olympus, Eros and Psyche are tasked with selling a lie, ensuring that everyone believes theirs to be a love match. They’re attempting to prevent an all-out war against a formidable adversary, but the threat of danger looms over their carefully constructed facade.

With its storyline filled with intrigue and suspense, Electric Idol captured my unwavering attention, but it’s the complex relationship between Eros and Psyche that had me gradually speeding up the speed on the audiobook, impatient to hear what happened next. I started out slower than normal because a) British accents are much harder to understand at 2x speed and, b) I wanted to sit back and savor the story. But with their every primal, lust-filled interaction, the connection between zeros and Psyche became more intense, and more profound, and I was beyond curious how a seemingly impossible situation would end happily for two star crossed lovers.

Whether you love forbidden romances, whether you enjoy modern mythology retellings, or whether you’re in the mood for a steamy, angsty, riveting love story, Electric Idol is another must-read in Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus Series. It’s an alluring world inhabited by enrapturing, unforgettable characters, and I can’t wait to discover what happens next. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Special thanks to the publisher for the complimentary paperback and audiobook review copy!!!

KATEE👏🏼ROBERT👏🏼NEVER👏🏼MISSES another iconic book from the queen of spice. This being a 5⭐️ from me is not shocking but the fact that I found this just as addicting as Neon Gods is so crazy. How does she do it? Eros & Psyche are just as sweet and sexy of a duo as my favs Hades & Persephone. I said it in my Neon Gods review but this is an excellent series to start with for getting into Katee’s books because it’s a true balance of plot & spice, also listened to on audio & loved it!

"I want to bind her to me as closely as possible, to have her crave what I can give her as much as I want to give it to her."

Another fantastic Katee Robert book.

The plot was good leading up to the conflict. It inevitably left me wanting a bit more. I wish there had been further content regarding the actual conflict, but I’ll leave it at that to avoid spoilers.

The build-up for Eros and Psyche was slow, but when it got there? Whew. If you’ve read any of Robert’s works you know that she doesn’t miss when it comes to writing about sex, tension, or anything of the sort. This was hot! I loved the plus-size representation and how it was clear that though Psyche had her insecurities, her confidence shined through. Not to mention Eros absolutely worshipped Psyche. He’s quite the generous lover and that’s something we can all appreciate.

As much as I loved the previous book, Neon Gods, I enjoyed Electrid Idol just a bit more. And I'm also already looking forward to the next book in the series.

I am a lover of Greek mythology and I love how Katee Robert put her own spin on them. Eros and Psyche’s book didn’t disappoint!

Psyche and Eros are forced into a marriage of convenience and have to deal with what comes with that. I loved the plus size representation, being plus sized myself, and I loved Psyche’s ability to maintain a moral code despite playing the games of the gods. I didn’t expect to like Eros as much as I did! I wanted to jump into the book and shake him for thinking he’s anything but great.

I think the only tiny issue I had with the story was that at the end, it felt a bit rushed. Overall, I did very much enjoy it.

I listened to the audiobook and I did like the narrators a lot! The quality did seem a bit lost when played in anything over 1.5 speed.

I’ll be the first person to admit I don’t know the first thing about Greek mythology. Psyche and Eros? Literally have no idea what their story is and yet I loved this modern retelling of it. I didn’t even know I wanted this book so badly until I saw the audiobook arc available for request, and once I was approved, I shoved aside my entire TBR to listen to this immediately.

If you’re looking for a steamy romance with marriage of convenience and enemies to lovers, this is the story for you. Psyche and Eros aren’t friends – they are barely acquaintances. But when Eros shows up to a party limping and covered in blood, Psyche is quick to help patch him up. When they’re seen together, the rumors start to fly of their so called “relationship” and Eros mother, Aphrodite, tells Eros to bring her Psyche’s heart on a platter. Instead, he decides the only way to protect this innocent young woman is to marry her. He either has to kill her or marry her and he goes with marry – and she agrees.

I loved Psyche so much! She’s a plus-sized social media influencer in Olympus – she is perfectly happy with her body the way it is – she knows she’s not like the other women, has to shop at speciality stores to find clothes in her size, but that doesn’t bother her. She loves her sisters and mother, family is important to her even if they don’t alway see eye to eye. She’s strong willed and independent.

Eros is the opposite, a loner type who won’t show his feelings to anyone. Living alone in a bachelor pad pent house with only casual flings, never a real relationship. He’s the grumpy one with an angry face.

Their opposite personalities obviously make them a perfect match for a “we have to get married or I have to kill you, and I don’t want to kill you.” I love marriages of convenience when it makes sense like this. (As much sense as this can make, that is…) Despite being forced together, neither can deny they’re attracted to the other as they’re forced to live together and keep Psyche alive.

I have to say, compared to Neon Gods, I found this book to have a lot less sex scenes. The sex that did occur was quite steamy, but it was a lot less than I expected to find. This book still has a strong plot line and more romance than just sex, so I wasn’t mad in the least.

I really enjoyed this story and I couldn’t stop listening to it – its addictive! I’m already looking forward to the next book in this series.

Thank you Net Galley for an audio copy of Electric Idol by Katee Robert. I usually steer clear of Greek Mythology novels because I just don't have understanding or interest in them. But I wanted to give this a try because I love the author. I want disappointed and now I want to read this whole series!

I love Neon Gods, and Electric Idol was one of the books I was most excited to be released this month! I had a feeling I was going to love Electric Idol and it did delivered!!

Despite finishing it on its pub date two days ago, in my typically fashion of always being late, here is my ✨ glowing✨ review

Psyche and Eris 💗 y’all know I love fake dating and their story is a marriage for convenience which imo is fake dating escalated!!

I also loved how there was a focus on how close Psyche is with her family and how Eris has his chosen family with other children of the 13. There is great character development, which we always love to see, in accepting love and knowing your worthy of love.

There is also a big theme of having a public facing persona or wanted to be perceived in a specific way vs. who a person actually is, especially with social media. And I felt how this was weaved in and such an integral part of the story was so fascinating!

Katee Robert has excellent books that balance plot and smut with the smut always delivering on spice. She’s an auto buy author for me with an extensive backlist that I’m excited to read through, but I’m very excited that the next book in the Dark Olympus series is coming out in June of this year!

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape for the ALC in exchange for an honest review!

Read if you like:
💗 Marriage of convenience
💗 Spicy spice (IYKYK 🪞 and ⏱)
💗 Bad boy gets the good girl
💗 Dual perspectives and dual narrators! With British accents!!!
💗 Fat representation
💗 Greek retellings

Knowing that Electric Idol by Katee Robert was to be released today, I awoke this morning with a determination to read her latest book in its entirety.

Fully immersing myself in the Dark Olympus, I listened to the audiobook while reading along with an ebook on my Kindle. It is quite the experience.

I am very impressed with the narrators! For Eros, the male narrator sounds posh and bored, but it is quite fitting for his Eros’s morally-grey character. For Psyche the narrator has a friendly and kind voice that is quite perfect for the young, beautiful, social media influencer.

Robert’s romantic fantasy focuses on a modern-day retelling of the Greek gods Psyche and Eros. Psyche is a beautiful, vivacious social media influencer in Dark Olympus, and Eros is his mother a morally grey character With a marriage of convenience, Greek gods out for blood, enemies to lovers, and Olympus consistently manipulating the two for personal gain, this book does not fail to deliver romance and drama!

“We can’t tell anyone the truth.”

This is my first book in the Dark Olympus series! I look forward to reading book three, Wicked Beauty.

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media, and Katee Roberts for the opportunity to review this amazing book!

I absolutely loved Neon Gods so I was very excited when Electric Idol was set to be published!

First, the narration fit well. I was unsure at first with the narrators but as the story progressed I really enjoyed the narration. The narration were able to pull off the wit and personality from the characters in a way that didn’t feel forced. Also, it felt like such a quick listen and left me excited for more!

Electric Idol can be read as a standalone but you’d be missing out if you didn’t eventually read Neon Gods. Electric Idol tells the story of Eros and Psyche. I absolutely loved getting to know more about Olympus. The world building is amazing.

I loved Eros and Psyche. Eros does his mother’s bidding and is good at it. He never takes issue with following her orders, until Psyche becomes his next target. Psyche is kind but has to remain reserved because of her circumstances. Both characters have to hold back parts of themselves and are unable to feel truly free. I don’t mind insta-love and Eros deserves it so I was so flipping happy. While not as spicy as Neon Gods. It is still SPICY! The chemistry between Eros and Psyche is amazing and so much sexual tension.

Overall, I think if you loved Neon Gods, marriage of convenience, forbidden love, and Eros/Psyche retellings with excellent characters, you will not be let down! Katee Roberts knows how to write steam but also has the amazing ability to really tap into the characters emotions and insecurities and make you feel it.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca, Dreamscape and Netgalley for the advanced copy!

i enjoyed the second installment in this modern day, dark and gossip thriving, olympus romance series so much more than the first! i loved both psyche and eros so much and both of their stories were so compelling and so powerful together. i truly adored them both and their chemistry and dynamic from their very first impromptu meeting. and i really believe the author did an amazing job with the fake romance trope in this story! and i think this book really left the reader wanting the third book, which is always good thing!

both main characters are queer (pan or bi or no/all labels - no words used on page), psyche is fat and talks a lot about how society perceives her regardless of her loving her body, and i thought it was very well done. and there is a constant plot of parental manipulation and how that can impact a child who only wants to be loved, regardless of age.

trigger and content warnings: blood depictions, parental abuse and manipulation in past and present, grief depiction, brief mention of suicide, a shooting, themes of murder and death in the past, and violence in general.

I loved reading these stories! So much so that I read Electric Idol again as an ebook once it was officially released! I love this world, and it was really great to get Psyche and Ero's story! I loved that there was such a great plus sized positivity rep in Psyche, and that she was media savvy was so fantastic! Plus that he got angry on her behalf because of the trolls was so precious!

I loved reading Hades and Hades. The one big question I had of Neon Gods was whether Hades from Learn My Lesson was connected to Neon God's Hades. So it was fantastic to have this confirmation, and to have them meet for the first time, after thinking the other was dead all these years! I'm so glad that we got this story!

I'd agree with the synopsis, sinful and sweet. This is the first book in this world, that I've read at least, that's vanilla. There's not BDSM, and there's one or two kinks. Which was great for two reasons-one, that that's what these characters were like, given what their lives were like, there was one scene were Eros just wanted to hold Psyche, just to reassure himself that she was fine. And two, I was consuming this as an audiobook, and I was a bit scared of what a kinky audiobook would sound like, so I haven't learned as of yet!

I loved who these two were, they were both smart and cunning, they both know how to play the game-but because of his position as Aphrodite's fixer, he usually doesn't. But boy the charm when he does! I loved their chemistry, they way they both fell in love with the other, not knowing that the other was in love with them, it was swoon-worthy to read!

And I can't not mention what got them married in the first place-that Aphrodite wanted Psyche dead. It was really great to watch all of these politics come out-especially since Demeter and the new Zeus were arranging a marriage for him and Psyche. Oh, and that Aphrodite didn't care about the politics, wasn't level-minded enough to do so. Loved how it all turned out, it was really clever! And that epilogue with the family dinner was so sweet!

I'm really excited for Wicked Beauty. It's going to star Helen, who we met in this book. Given the ending of this book, and the synopsis of the next, it sounds like Ares position is being replaced. And I can't wait to see it go down, given that Zeus is an asshole and offering Helen's hand in marriage into the mix!

Plus we have the couple of the book after that, Radiant Sin (https://www.kateerobert.com/radiant-sin), which is going to star Apollo and Cassandra, which I'm also excited for-we met Cassandra briefly in this book, and it's mentioned that she treated Apollo and his brother, Orpheus (you know, the one that broke Eurydice's heart!) so I'm excited to see how that plays out!

This was a fantastic read, and I can't wait for the next book in the series, I can't wait to read Helen's book!

This picks up a few weeks after Neon Gods but this time we’re thrusted into the story of Eros and Psyche. Eros is not only Aphrodites’ son but also her cleaner. He takes care of the messes she wants taken care of. Psyche is Demeter’s daughter and Persephone’s sister. Of the four sisters, Psyche is the sweet and supportive one.

Eros and Psyche cross paths at a party and her willingness to help him makes an huge impact on Eros. So much so that when his mother tasks him with doing away with Psyche, he marries her instead.

Like Neon Gods, this story was hot and steamy! Plus, I’m really enjoying where this series is heading. The fight for power and the struggle for balance between the 13. Everything is a calculated and no one can be trusted. Can’t wait to read the next book!

4.5
I knew of the names of Psyche and Eros from Greek mythology. However, I came to know their full story sometime last year. I really enjoyed the previous retellings I've read and Electric Idol is definitely up there. The audiobook for this (and the series so far) is fantastic. Zara Hamptom-Brown and Alex Moorcock (lol) give stellar performances and currently adding titles featuring their narration.
I will say, even knowing this is a contemporary series, it still throws me off that it isn't in a fantastical realm. A lot of the writing feels mystical and otherwordly. It throws me off here but not as much as in Neon Gods. I definitely understood the hierarchical system in place a lot better this go around. While I look forward to Helen's story in the next one, I'm curious if we will get a Callisto and Zeus book.

Ahhh I absolutely loved this book! I am reading these out of order. I plan to read Neon Gods ASAP!⁣

This was so spicy and fiery and hilarious to read and listen to! I went back and forth between audio and reading and absolutely loved both!⁣

We have a sexy, smart ass, bluntly honest killer with no heart, Eros; and cunning, sharp, witty, curvy, sexy Psyche. The banter and chemistry between these two is amazing!⁣

I always love a fake marriage trope and this one especially, a marriage to try to avoid being murdered. ⁣

I absolutely adored reading about a curvy, brainy heroine and I loved even more that Eros appreciated her even more for her brain and her curves. I love a dark male character role who doesn’t believe they are deserving of love too. So many great tropes. I also loved the steam. 🥵⁣
